Umathquad again - lots of mktexlsr errors

The ! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set. came up again. Therefore decided to get new beta. Now suddenly I get on the console what seem literaly hundredsds of thousands messages mktexlsr: : not a directory, skipping. Has there been an infinite loop been crept in somewhere? Used the scripts that always worked, nothing new. plus #!/bin/bash curl -o first-setup.sh http://minimals.contextgarden.net/setup/first-setup.sh chmod a+x ./first-setup.sh mkdir tex cd tex ln -s ~/Library/texmf texmf-local cd .. sh ./first-setup.sh >first-setup.log exit I had the impression two months ago that the offending reference causing the Umathquad should be removed shortly. Wasn't that a private euler reference in one of the developing systems? This is: ConTeXt ver: 2011.06.26 13:23 MKIV fmt: 2011.6.27 int: english/english and it still seems to be there. Please, can this be remedied. The problem is: I cannot find my notes on how to solve it! Hans van der Meer

Hi, I uploaded a new beta. where to place \index (again)

Hi all, I'm in the final phase of editing a scholarly book with a pretty big index. What follows is less a question than an observation: no matter where I place the \index command, there can always be unwanted side effects: foo\index{bar}: here, the entry may point to the page following the name, if the page break falls at this position. Moreover, when this is followed by punctuation or footnotes, there may be a line break between the word and the punctuation/footnote mark. Placing it at the end of a long footnote is asking for even more trouble, because there's a real risk that a page break may occur. \index{bar}foo: the book is typeset with character protrusion, and this seems to introduce additional material which can disturb line endings, so that lines before such an indexed word appear to be missing one character at the end. So this is what I observe. Working around this is possible, but painful - I have to check every page for such bad linebreaks or misplaced punctuation marks. My question then is: will it be possible, at one point in luatex development, to find a more robust solution for this? This would be wonderful, I think! All best Thomas

Influencing of horizontal arrangement of list of publications

Hello ConTeXist, As is known, the layout of a list (of content) is determined by the values of alternative, margin, width and distance. Required values can be changed via commands \setuplist or \setupcombinedlist. Can somehow influence the horizontal arrangement of items in lists typed using \placepublications[...]? I want to change such margin, distance and alignment reference items. <margin>REFERENCE ITEM<distance>PUBLICATION ITEM Examples of alignments and distances: RefAuthor1 Author1, Name of his publication RefAut2 Authors2, Name of his publication RAut3 Authors3, Name of his publication or: RefAuthor1 Author1, Name of his publication RefAut2 Author2, Name of his publication RAut3 Author3, Name of his publication or: RefAuthor1 Author1, Name of his publication RefAut2 Author2, Name of his publication RAut3 Author3, Name of his publication etc. I ask because when I use (in context minimals) the standard command \placepublications[criterium=all], then I get a result that does not satisfy me at all. Trailing Space after \cldcontext

Hey list, Is there any way to remove the trailing space that appears to be automatically inserted when \cldcontext output is captured? For instance, Bazaar revision \cldcontext{os.resultof"bzr revno"}. Will show "Bazaar revision 43 ." Current Commands/Columns

Is there some sort of guide to which commands are still used in ConTeXt or a latest edition of the main manual? I downloaded a bunch of manuals from the main website to learn from, and some of the commands aren't affecting my output. I'm particularly confused about how to create and setup columns. I've read about using \setuplayout[columns=somenumber] with \layoutcolumnoffset{somecolumn}, \setupcolumns with \start, \stopcolumns, and \column, and \setlayer[text][column=1]{some text} (which doesn't seem to work at all) in the style guide.

I must be doing something wrong. But what? Dear Wolfgang and Hans, I just updated the minimal and tested animation. Adobe Reader reads PDF well and the animation works well. I didn't test the options which you mention yet, but I think that they also work well. Thank you so much. Best regards, Dalyoung

\setscript[hanzi] conflicts with some symbols

Hi Hans, In the beta 2011.06.25, "\setscript[hanzi]" can not coexist with the symbols such as "\METAPOST". Any MacTeX users here?

Hello, I would like to have a rough estimate about the number of MacTeX users that also use ConTeXt minimals (I use MacTeX for compiling LaTeX documents and often also use it for a month or two ... until it starts diverging too much with Minimals). I'm testing a tiny script to create an entry in "TeX Distributions" Preference Pane which would allow one to switch distributions with a GUI (PrefPane has to be fixed first in order to enable proper functionality). I'm particularly interested in PPC users as testers since ConTeXt doesn't use universal binaries as MacTeX does. I will first try to prepare a tiny script that would just create a new entry for the Preference Pane (I have it ready, but it needs some polishing). I hope that it will be possible to install the pane as a standalone package once TeX Live 2011 is out, but at the moment one will have to have it installed in order for this to work. If you are only interested in using it, you may just leave me a note off-list, so that I will have a rough estimate of interest. If you would like to discuss some ideas, feel free to reply to the whole mailing list. One problem that I'm not sure about is how to treat multiple installation on the same machine. The other one is the need for quick switches between distributions without GUI (I have a script texdist in /usr/local/bin, but I'm not sure if that one is up to date.) The next step would be a GUI installer, but that is not going to happen yet, at least not by me. (I'm thinking about it, but not for the close future.) Mojca
