All, Something elementary, I'm sure, that I'm not understanding. I'm trying to achieve parallel footnotes in arab/english texts, ie. each footnote in the Arabic text has a corresponding footnote in the English text. Both should point to the same footnote text. Like this: <body> <text> <div type='arText'> <lb /> some arab <ref target="#N01">text</ref> <lb /> more arab <ref target="#N02">text</ref> </div> <div type='enText'> <lb /> some english <ref target="#N01">text</ref> <lb /> more english <ref target="#N02">text</ref> </div> <div type='fnotes'> <note xml:id="N01">text for note ONE</note> <note xml:id="N02">text for note TWO</note> </div> </text> </body> I thought to use TeX's \note[ref], but the following doesn't seem to work. \startxmlsetups xml:ref \define\thisRefName{\xmlatt{#1}{target}} \xmldoifelse{#1}{parent::div[@type='arText']} {\footnote[\thisRefName]{\xmlfirst{#1}{root::/body/text/div[@type='fnotes']/note[@xml:id==string.sub('\xmlatt{#1}{target}',2)]}}} {\note[\thisRefName]} \xmlflush{#1} \stopxmlsetups \startxmlsetups xml:div:fnotes \placefootnotes \stopxmlsetups I just get ?? for the reference markers in the English text. Augmented Matrix

I'm trying to make a simple Augmented matrix using \startmathmatrix and cannot seem to get \VL working correctly. I'd assume to do an augmented matrix I'd do: \startformula \left[ \startmathmatrix[n=4] 1 \NC 1 \NC 1 \VL 1\NR 0 \NC 1 \NC -1 \VL 2\NR 0 \NC 0 \NC 2 \VL 8 \stopmathmatrix \right] \stopformula but I get an undefined control sequence. If it were LaTex, I'd do: $$ \left[ \begin{array}{ccc|c} 1 & 1 & 1 & 1\\ 0 & 1 & -1 & 2\\ 0 & 0 & 2 & 8 \end{array} \right] $$ Any suggestions? Thanks

Table resolution too low

I just created a PDF of a bookblock by using MKII to produce the .ps file and Adobe Acrobat to create the PDF from it. When preflighting the PDF, all the photos were found to be 300dpi or greater but the table created by the following code was flagged at being only 150ppi. problems with \hbox inside lua

Dear list, I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong here. how to ask lua if glyph nr. x exists in current font

Hello, I'm trying to decrypt the LuaTeX reference manual. I find it easy enough to read data about different fonts when using fontA = fontloader.open('a.otf') and then glyphs = fontloader.to_table(fontA).glyphs but I'm not able to figure out how to aks the same question about the font that is currently being used (in MKIV). I would like to know if a glyph with some Unicode value is present in the font or not. Thanks for the hints, Mojca

Problem with PDF generating module documentation in Ctx minimals

Hello all, I have problem with PDF generating module documentation. When I use command: context --autopdf --ctx=x-ldx.ctx t-fancybreak.mkiv, then is all right, but if I use commands: context --autopdf --ctx=s-mod.ctx --nomode t-fancybreak.mkiv context --autopdf --ctx=s-mod.ctx t-fancybreak.mkiv then I get compilation breaks and I get error message! Dumb quotes and dashes, globally and in verbatim text

so i want to use ' and -- in my code, which is embedded via \starttyping \stoptyping, but that’s impossible. context replaces -- with – and ' with ’. that’s wrong. i need to be able to tell context it shouldn’t do any “smart” stuff, since i’m smart enough to press the ’-key if i want the character ’. so what i ask for: 1. we should change the standard behavior of context to “don’t replace --, ' and whatnot in verbatim areas” 2. we should be able to trigger this globally, for people who have a useful keyboard layout and can type “special” characters as fast as ascii. is the latter already built in somehow?

As usual Ulrike is correct.
