Is there anything like developer's manual for ConTeXt?

Hi everyone, After fighting with ConTeXt one month, I find it's too difficult. I have two years experience of LaTeX. I never thought ConTeXt could be so difficult. Using ConTeXt is like climbing a steep mountain, every step need extensive searching, reading, and asking. Sorry for the useless complain. I'm stuck by so many problems. I might be lack of the basic knowledge of ConTeXt. Could someone tell me where I can find manuals or papers that describe the logic of ConTeXt design and basics of ConTeXt programming. Currently what is the best solution for presentation with steps in Context that works with the stable version of MKIV. The one that you can get with ./first-setup.sh --context=current If I need to install any addon module for your recommendation (i.e., if it does not come with minimals), kindly let me know. Thanks for your feedback.

beta: warning messages

Hi Hans, looks my knowledge of TeX is holey like a Leerdammer. Can you tell me why you fire a warning for already defined, non-global allocated registers? Some of them make sense here but even a grouped (and local allocated) register gives such a warning. warning : \count \OLDpdfcompresslevel is already defined (\relax it first) \def\disablePDFcompression% {\bgroup % \let\OLDpdfcompresslevel\relax \newcount\OLDpdfcompresslevel \OLDpdfcompresslevel\pdfcompresslevel \pdfcompresslevel\zerocount\relax} \def\allowPDFcompression% {\pdfcompresslevel\OLDpdfcompresslevel\egroup} - Peter

Module taspresent

As mentioned on the wiki, I tried to install taspresent module by running ./first-setup.sh --extras="t-taspresent" in the terminal. A lot of things happened and then I ran luatools --generate and then context --make. Then I tried to compile the file \usemodule[taspresent][style=blackblue] \starttext This is a presentation \stoptext This gives me just a plain page with the line "This is a presentation". The log window says that "module taspresent not found". Before I did all the above, I also installed taspresent manually in the ~/Library/texmf/tex/context/taspresent folder. I downloaded the .zip file from ctan and unzipped it inside the taspresent folder mentioned above. Still no success. How do I use taspresent? Thanks very much.

hi guys, i generally use this file to test if math is "working", with the recent update i get a lot of errors such as; ! Missing number, treated as zero. <to be read again> $ \@@dobig ...o #1\bodyfontsize {}\right .\n@space $ }} \@mt@defaultBigl ...\puremathcomm {open}{\Big {#1} } l.99 \pauli = \dirac^2 = \Bigl( \sum_{j=1}^2 \sigma_j\big(-i\PD{}{x^j}-a_j\bi... ? with texlive 2008 it works just fine, i've attached the output of the TL2008. i'm certain that the same file was compiling just fine with (i think) luatex 0.31 (or pre 0.31). the content is from Mikael Persson's thesis. switching layouts for a float

Hi Friends, Still working on having a travelogue with a text column on one side, and then a plate of color photos on the opposite page. Floats are working well for this with \startcombination[2*2]. My problem is that the text pages, have a wide margin to accommodate marginal graphics, and I don't know how to switch to a wide layout with tiny backspace and margin just for the combination floats. I'm trying: ... \definepapersize[wide][width=9in, height=7in] \setuppapersize[wide][wide] \setuplayout [location=middle, marking=on, topspace=.5cm, height=6.5in, width=4.5in, margin=3.5in, backspace= 2cm, footer=.9cm, header=.9cm] \definelayout [photopage][width=7.5in, margin=.5cm, backspace=1.5cm, ] ... \starttext ...lots of text in chapters... \setuplayout[photopage] \placefigure{none} {\startcombination[2*2] {\externalfigure[yucatan1][width=.5\textwidth]}{A old church on the way from Merida to Celestun} {\externalfigure[yucatan2][width=.5\textwidth]}{A gorgeous decaying hacienda} {\externalfigure[yucatan3][width=.5\textwidth]}{Typical Yucatecan thatched adobe dwelling} {\externalfigure[yucatan4][width=.5\textwidth]}{Thached house detail} \stopcombination} \setuplayout[reset] ...more text in chapters... \stoptext I suspect that this doesn't work because of the nature of floats, but then how to slap the float into a new layout setup with appropriate margins? TeXshop instructions on Context Minimals (Mac installation)

Hello, I installed the stable version of Context Minimals and then followed the instructions given on the Context Minimals/Mac Installation page. When I choose ConTeXt-MKIV as my engine and try to typeset the document I get the following error. Users/Name/Library/TeXShop/Engines/ConTeXt-MKIV.engine does not have the executable bit set. This is when only "pdftex" is selected in the dropdown "Typeset" menu. It is true that the instructions on Context Minimals/Mac Installation page say that "Context" should also be selected in this dropdown "Typeset" menu. But if I try to do that, the engine automatically switches to "Context" that existed in the Engines menu, before I installed Minimals and before I added Context-MKII and ConTeXt-MKIV engines. This "ConTeXt engine is MKII. Can someone please help with this? Thanks.

Hi, I want to switch to the new structure code in mkiv. This can result in some temporary problems (probably mostly commands that i forgot to port) but i need the switch in order to be able to optimize and cleanup that code. So best make a copy of your minimal.
