Hello! I was able to persuade one user to prepare ConTeXt package for NixOS distro, but, unfortunately, being from Russia he quickly discovered that he minimal example from wiki (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Russian) does not work, i.e. \enableregime[utf] \useencoding[cyr] \definetypeface [russian] [rm] [serif] [computer-modern] [default] [encoding=t2a] \setupbodyfont[russian] \starttext Мама и Папа % Some Russian characters \stoptext does transliterate Russian characters. I do not have any experience working with Cyrillic, so if anyone can provide minimal working example it would be very nice? \Asterisk

I was working on a document in which I wanted use a symbol that, acording to the Comprehensive LaTeX Symbol List, goes by the name of \Asterisk or \bigast (see p. 22). I saw, though, that this seems to be missing in ConTeXt. Might it be tucked away in some module, or is it just absent? If it's really not there, what would it take to add it? Context on Miktex

All, On http://blog.miktex.org/post/2008/05/ConTeXt-support.aspx I read that Miktex version of Context is broken. I also read Mojca's workaround, pasted below. Has anyone tried this and does it work? Any conflicts or difficulties? Second question: Can I get mptopdf to work in the Miktex tree without installing Context? Mojca's workaround: May 31. 2008 00:37 If you still want to run ConTeXt on MikTeX while it has been removed, you may create a file texmfstart.bat in C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7 \miktex\bin with the content: @echo off ruby "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\scripts\context\ruby\texmfstart.rb" "%*" and extract www.pragma-ade.com/context/current/cont-tmf.zip into C: \Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7. Then, update filename database and generate formats, and everything should work again. Reading modules from zip files

Hi, I tried to load a module from the zip archive without placing it in my tex folder, this work fine but I'm unable to include files from my global tex tree because none of them is found by luatex. The following works \usezipfile[t-letter.zip] \usemodule[letter] \starttext \startletter letter text \stopletter \stoptext but this fails \usezipfile[t-letter.zip] \usemodule[letter] \starttext \startletter[opening=hi,closing=bye] \input knuth \stopletter \stoptext The file knuth.tex and all the map files are not found. Needless empty page at end

Hi again! When I compile the example of http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Alternating_backgrounds_and_repeating_layers with "texexec -lua" or "-pdf" I get an additional empty page at the end of my document. It shows the watermark but neither text nor the pagenumber. This workaround unfortunately doesn't work: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Empty_page_at_the_end Any ideas? I know everyone is preparing for fun in Bohinj (and I am gutted that I am missing it this year) but it would be really great if someone had the chance to work out how to fix this problem: \starttext I wish I was going to the ConTeXt\index{ConTeXt} meeting this year to enjoy all the fun\seeindex{ConTeXt}{also fun}. \placeindex \stoptext I get output like this: -- I wish I was going to the ConTeXt meeting this year to enjoy all the fun. c ConTeXt see also fun 1 -- But I want this: --I wish I was going to the ConTeXt meeting this year to enjoy all the fun. c ConTeXt 1 see also fun -- Why is the page number of the first index entry attaching itself to the "see" subentry instead of the top level entry? Installing ConTeXt Minimals on a Mac

What follows are some queries that I will be happy to write up for the wiki. The aim (hope?) is to develop a set of instructions for installing the minimals on a Mac that a Mac user without any real knowledge of unix (such as myself) can follow easily. (There are a number of people scattered around the world who help me in producing various publications; and since they too are not unix savvy, I need such instructions if we are to keep our installations functioning and up to date.) Once the ConTeXt minimals are installed in the Applications folder and the user can run \starttext Hello world! \stoptext which is where the wiki (Installation>section 1.2) currently leaves off, there still remain a few tasks. Specifically, (a) getting this ConTeXt installation to recognize a personal texmf directory (b) running the various binaries (e.g., texmfstart, ctxtools) in / Applications/ConTeXtMinimals from Terminal (c) establishing synchronization between PDF output and its ConTeXt source. Currently, it does not seem to work (with TeXShop at least) Note, in the latest TeXShop there is Added support for SyncTeX. SyncTeX is new synchronization technology by Jerome Laurens which is included in TeX Live 2008 (but not earlier TeX distributions). The technology is built directly into pdfTeX and XeTeX. In modern TeX distributions, most typesetting actually calls pdfetex (even if using latex to output a dvi file), and thus the technology is available for such typesetting. To use the technology, add the flag --synctex=1 Any advice on how to do (a), (b), and (c) will be much appreciated. Alan
