When I run the code below (via minimals), I get the following error, why? enter loop ! inconsistent TABLE and figure top-placement

Hi, I just go mad with a grid based document that contains several naturalTABLEs and figures. When I want to place those at the top of the page, their top edge is sometimes higher, sometimes lower than expected. Experimenting with different figure height (and different heights of the first row of the tables) showed that these values move the float up or down!! The result looks very bad (jumping up, jumping down) ... Thus, two urgent questions: 1) How can I force that the top edge is always exactly (!) at the same vertical position, same for ALL tables and figures? 2) If 1) is impossible: How can I manually move a textwidth table/figure the should be placed "top" a little bit vertically (like +/- 2pt)? startconstants broken

Upgrading seems to have broken \startconstants (and probably also \startvariables). The code below worked in cont-tmf version 2008-08-05 but no longer in 2008-10-31: \startconstants all spine: spine % etcetera \stopconstants \startvariables all % etcetera \stopvariables The error is: ! Undefined control sequence. <argument> \c!spine =\v!none \xprocesscommaitem #1,#2->\if ,#1 ,\@EA \xprocesscommaitem \else \if ]#1\@EAE... <argument> ...=\v!cd ,\c!spine =\v!none ,\c!state =\v!draft ,\c! output =\v!p... \xdogetparameters #1]->\xprocesscommaitem #1 ,],\@relax@ l.162 ] Addition of "\def\c!spine{}" makes the error go away. So definitely something is broken in the latter release for the start- macro(s). texexec (and context) stops when using \externalocp

Trying to get some sort of 'implicit' bidi with luatex, I though of using an (extenal) OCP filter as it is much easier than messing with luatex nodes, and it respects TeX grouping. The attached example loads the do_bidi.py script as an \externalocp, it works fine with plain luatex, but not with 'texexec', using 'context' I get: MtxRun | fatal error, message: luatex: execution interrupted Any ideas? Context doesn't work

I've installed Context and attempted $ texexec fig3_2.tex The response is: the file 'texexec.rb' is not found setuptex was run and TEXROOT is correctly set. texexec is: #!/bin/sh texmfstart texexec.rb "$@" There seems to be nothing there which would enable the script to be located. Does texexec have to be changed to state the full path to the script? Does that have to be done with anything else?

backward-incompatible behavior of Palatino and modern

I texexec'ed a one-page file that I hadn't compiled for almost a year (preparing for the next offering of the course). The font sizes increased, resulting in a two-page PDF file. The one-page result, which is what I expected, came from ConTeXt 2008.01.02 (MkII), for which I had selected font sizes to fit it onto one page. I couldn't find that release in the museum, so it was probably 2007.12.31 with my patches. I downloaded the cont-tmf for 2007.12.31, and it too produced the expected one-page PDF file. Whereas current versions produce a two-page file, either with 2008.10.31 from the Debian packages and with 2008.11.10 on live.contextgarden.net. I'm not sure which behavior (2007 or 2008) is correct. Below is a minimal example testfile.tex producing only a few lines instead of a whole page, but it illustrates the differences. With the 2007.12.31 version, the lines fits within the frame (from \showframe). With the new versions, the "Approximation" extends outside the frame, and the "The Art" gets split onto separate lines. Commenting out the "\setupbodyfont [palatino,11pt]" line makes the two versions identical. But the original example uses Palatino text, so I cannot do that for the long-term solution. I've attached 'good' and 'bad' PDF files. If the new version is correct, I'll retune the font sizes to make it fit, and it's no big deal.
