luatex for random numbers

Hello friends, I have a small but urgent question. How to call luatex commands in the document? (I heard there were some recent changes.) More specifically, how to generate integer random numbers in given range? I'm preparing a quiz on numbering systems for my students on tomorrow, so your fast help would be greatly appreciated! :) Best regards, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky

still have a problem in using luatools

Hi, Again I'd like to ask you some help. Since I have no idea what is wrong in my TeX(gwTeX), I tried from the beginning. I removed installed gwTeX, and reinstalled MacTeX-2007 package. I checked the followings: $ kpsewhich texmf.cnf /usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf $ kpsewhich --expand-var='$TEXMFCNF' {/usr/local/texlive/2007/bin/powerpc-darwin,/usr/local/texlive/2007/ bin,/usr/local/texlive/2007}{,{/share,}/texmf{-local,}/web2c}:/. $ kpsewhich --expand-var='$TEXMF' {/Users/dalyoung/.texlive2007/texmf-config,/Users/ dalyoung/.texlive2007/texmf-var,/Users/dalyoung/Library/texmf,!!/usr/ local/texlive/2007/texmf-config,!!/usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf- var,!!/usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf,!!/usr/local/texlive/2007/../ texmf-local,!!/usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf-dist} I also copied luatex and mtxrun in the folder /usr/texbin. texexec --make --all {--pdftex, --xetex} worked fine and make formats properly. After that I run "luatools --generate", then it is not working properly. The messages are $ luatools --generate LuaTools | skipping /usr/texbin/texmf-local/web2c/texmf.cnf LuaTools | skipping /usr/texbin/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf LuaTools | LuaTools | runtime: 0.03 seconds I don't know why it is looking for texmf.cnf under the binary folder(/ usr/texbin). got win mimimals at last

Hello, Hurray!!! The recent Windows minimals work fine for me! Thank you, Mojca, for showing a hidden place in the garden! :) And my a kind of installer works too, how nice! :))) A few words about my 'installer' (maybe someone is interested). It does the same job as setuptex.bat, but sets variables globally by writing into registry instead of dos box. So I can call binaries from any application and it all works!. (Remark: merely setting the PATH variable is not enough, dozen other are needed. Vars were typically defined in texmf.cnf files, but I was surprised to find that those files are explicitly ignored by luatex. ) My next step is to create 'real' installer for Windows. I've discussed this idea several times here and feel that people need it (I do :) My vision of the installer is: install-and-forget on any Windows machine. Target audience: novices. It will include mimimal distribution (56Mb), install or require Ruby too (not included in minimals?). This installation will NOT be able to coexist with MikTeX or TeXLive, because settings will clash. That's all news and thank you all!! Best, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky

Hi, This small piece of code gives me a wrong result: \startuseMPgraphic{teste} z7 = (5cm,0); label.lrt("Pontão",z7); \stopuseMPgraphic I just have to change 'btex Pont\~ao etex' for 'Pontão' and everything goes fine. Best, Maurício

Publication layouts

Hello All, I am using the bib module to generate references. The manual tells me that the publication layouts are defined in the bibl-xxx files. I've got several of these (bibl-ams.tex, bibl-apa.tex, bibl-num.tex etc) so how do I tell which one is being used? (They all look the same to me!) My supplementary question is: why doesn't the layout for a "book" type print out the "edition" which I have defined in the publication definition? I really want to change the layout of the "book" type to include the edition immdiately after the title in the same font. Thanks, Richard Stephens
