header misaligned and columns problem

Hello This is my page: \definepapersize[argento][width=20cm,height=28cm] \setuppapersize[argento][A3] \setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided,location=] \setuplayout[location=middle,marking=on,textwidth=150mm] And everithig is fine, but headers are not aligned with text. Also, I use 2 columns in most of the book, but 4 chapters uses 3 columns. I use \startcolumns[n=2, balance=yes,distance=8mm] or \startcolumns[n=3, balance=yes,distance=5mm] In two columns is ok, but in 3 columns, all the 3 columns donŽt fit the whole textwidth, I mean, the sum of the 3 columns width plus the 2 intercolumns space are less (about 1cm) than 150mm, as setuplayout says. BibTex module with AMS formatting

Hello everyone, I am a new to ConTeXt and typesetting in general. I want to type set a document that includes refereces using the AMS format. So far I have set up in my environment the following: \usemodule[bib] \usemodule[bibltx] \setupbibtex[database=MybibTeX,sort=author] And later in my product \completepublications I have been doing some tests, the reference list appears in the end with the numbers, but the actual references in the text just show up empty, like this []. I execute ConTeXt in the following way: texexec --once mydoc.tex bibtex mydoc.tex texexec --pdf mydoc.tex The BibTex module says I should run ConTeXt one more time, but it has not helped. I am not sure if I should use --pdf since I remember there were some issues with compiling directly to PDF using LaTeX when using BibTex. I am using context : ver: 2006.08.10 12:52 on MacOSX 10.4/Intel installed with Gerben Wierda's i-installer. Any ideas how to solve this issue? Thanks, Pepe

footnotes and variable rules

Hi to all, In some countries it is traditional that footnote rules have the following behaviour: When a footnote doesn't fit entirely in one page, and has to be continued in the next one, the footnote rule in the second page has to be longer, to show that the footnote doesn't start there, but in the preceeding page. So, if you normally use a e.g. 20%\textwidth rule, the rule in the following page has to be longer, typically 100%\textwidth; if you don't use footnote rule, the following page has to have a e.g. 20%\textwidth rule. In LaTeX this can be done with the footmisc package. Can this be done with ConTeXt, e.g. redefining \normalnoterule? Thanks in advance, Ricard

A few questions (mostly about fonts)

Hi! I'm fairly new to ConTeXt (which I greatly admire, by the way) and after reading a couple of provided manuals, I have some lingering questions. I thank anyone in advance for replying to any number of them. The fonts manual mentions how TeX is often qualified as 'the font mess'. Well, yeah, my head hurts right now... :-( Here are some font-related issues that are very important to me: a) Somehow I can't come up with small caps in a Times font. Is this normal? This happens either by using \sc or \setupcapitals[sc=yes] along with \cap. b) LaTeX has a package for the International Phonetic Alphabet called tipa. Is it possible to use it in ConTeXt? If not, can anybody point me to the relevant manuals that will help me incorporate official IPA fonts (say, the TTF version) in my ConTeXt installation? I'm using the stand-alone Windows distribution, btw. Two language related issues: c) There was a French language specific package in LaTeX that made possible the direct use of accented characters in the source text (like é, à, ô) without using the explicit commands themselves. Can this be achieved in ConTeXt (because right now their direct use simply halts the compiling)? I would believe so, since the manual for French documents by Peter Münster shows how to set up automatic spacing before the strong punctuation marks (! ? ; :) without explicit commands every time. I'm guessing the strategy would be the same with accented characters, but so far I haven't been able to make it work. d) Is it possible to build some sort of macro that would automatically make \quotation marks different when inside another \quotation command? Basically, we use « » (the French guillemets) as standard quotation marks, but we use single quotes instead inside another quotation. At this point, I'd only need a yes or no answer. It would ease my mind to know there can be a way to streamline this usage of quotation marks, thereby simplifying greatly the input text. And finally, a silly question: e) If purists say that LaTeX is to be pronounced latek, is ConTeXt to be pronounced contekt? :-) Thanks for your help! Jeff Smith Québec, Canada

Bold rules with TABLE

Hi, As this is my first mail to the list I'd like to start by thanking Hans and all other ConTeXt contributors. I stumbled upon ConTeXt just recently and I have fallen in love badly. :) Now to my question. Is it possible to control the rule thickness of a specific frames with TABLE, i.e. something like \setupTABLE[row][1][bottomframe=1pt] \setupTABLE[column][1][leftframe=2pt] If not, I'd guess it could be possible to fake this by inserting extra rows and columns with zero height and width, respectively, and use the rulethickness parameter to change the thickness of all their frames. Since this approach would add extra complexity to the table definitions I hope that you have better solutions. Thanks in advance, Fredrik Sjunnesson

hello I need this caracter: ¿ IŽve load a module, enco-ec, but I canŽt see the ¿. I also tryed \usetypescript[modern][ec] but didnŽt work either. I have another problem. ItŽs a two column document. In a page, the first column is overlaping a footnote. Column balance is on.
