Ugly hack for multiple MSWord docs.

Frequently I find myself in the position of needing to combine several MSWord and/or rtf documents into a single file for either pdftex or Context. I have settled on this strategy. 1. If necessary I convert the documents to rtf with Open Ofice Writer. 2. I convert the resulting rtf documents to LaTeX using rtf2latex2e. 3. I need to rename some of the LaTeX commands to their plain TeX or Context equivalents, and simply ignore others. Instead of editing each and every occurrence, I add the following to my "macros.tex" file which heads up the document: ---------------------------------------------------- \def\documentclass{} \def\newcommand{} \def\usepackage{} \def\tab{} \def\hspace{} \def\begin{} \def\end{} \def\textbf#1{\bf #1} \def\nobreakspace{~} \def\underline{} \def\newpage{} \def\textmd#1{\rm #1} \def\textit#1{\it #1} \def\large{\tfb} \def\reg{\rm\char174\ } \def\textregistered{\reg} ------------------------------------------------------ I create a master file that calls in each of the .tex files and compile the whole goulash. If I missed a latex tag then I add it to my \defs shown above and recompile until I get a clean run. Now I have a readable pdf file and can start correcting the format. The scattered Latex tags give me hints where centering etc. might be needed even though the tags are inoperative in Context, thanks to my nullifying \def statements shown above. Someday there will be an elegant solution to the MSWord to Context problem. For now there is my ugly hack as described here. -- John Culleton

How to hyperlink pdf?

Hello, How do I get the entries in TOC/LOF/LOT, t-bib bibliographic references and in-text references to other text parts (paragraphs, figures, tables) hyperlinked so that clicking on the respective references will lead me to the object referred to? Thanks for your help, Joh

splitting tables

Hi, I will upload an alpha release with a cleaned up table (float) split mechanism. The splitter works for all three table types, either or not in floats with repeated head (and tail) sections, optionally with automatic (may become default) caption height detection etc. It works ok on some simple test files, but I have no time to test more obscure situations. I'm not that sure if everything is downward compatible, but splitting is always tricky (and demanded some intervention) anyway. Mechanisms like this will never be perfect, but I think that the cleanup is not that bad. Especially the \startable bits and pieces needs some more testing, but then, i need to cleanup up that code anyway (write a cleaner version of that whole table mechanism). How to make this section header in ConTeXt?

Hi, I'm new to ConTeXt, but so far most things I wanted to do turned out to be quite easy. However, now I'm trying to make a particular section heading, but I can't get it right: |---------------------------------------------| | SECTION HEADING Key 1 Value 1 | | Key 2 Value 2 | | Key 3 Value 3 | | Key 4 Value 4 | | Text Key 5 Value 5 | |---------------------------------------------| Or in text, a box containing a section heading in the left top, some additional text in the left bottom, and a table with pairs of values on the right side of the box. Getting a box with a section heading and some text was easy enough, but I couldn't get the table where and how I wanted it. I also tried to do all of it in a table, but I got errors when trying to put a \section in the table. Any suggestion on how to do this will be highly appreciated. thanks, Jeroen Heijmans

Beta Bibliography module

Hi all, I've just released a beta of the bibliography module for testing. It can be downloaded from http://modules.contextgarden.net/bib as usual, and the version is now 2006.06.16 News, compared to the previous (April 11) version that is in the core distribution: * Better support for per-chapter bibliographic lists (citations now repeat in each chapter) * The \lang (LANGUAGE) database field is now honoured (if the content is a valid ConTeXt language, that is) * \biburl fields are now typeset using \hyphenatedurl * \month field conversion can now be controlled through \setuppublication[monthconversion=] * The module now uses \undefinedreference for undefined references * \usemodule[bibltx] provides \newcommand for legacy databases * Documentation updated (\nocite is documented now) Have fun, Taco

tex4ht and utf-8

Hello, It seems tex4ht's ConTeXt support is in the very early infancy, but I was able to convert a simple ConTeXt file into acceptable html using "htcontext" command. The only problem is encoding. Is there any way to get the same utf-8 encoding as in the source file? Piotr

texmfstart trouble

Recently I reported 2 problems related to metapost usage: 1. the loss of transparent color handling 2. textext not being able to handle %'s as in textext("15\%") The source of both problems can be nailed down to the one change in supp-mps.tex: \ifx\TEXEXECcommand \undefined \def\TEXEXECcommand{texmfstart texexec} \fi If I understand correctly, this effectuates a change from the perl to the ruby scripts. Removing the texmfstart solves the problem. I compared two runs for the transparency problem in order to see if there is some clue: 1. Both mp-files turn out being the same (except for the random seed). 2. The mpgraph.1 files differ only slightly, except for a few roundoff differences: new format extra lines: (but not a problem, I would guess) %%MetaPostSpecials: 2.0 123 1000 %%HiResBoundingBox: -5.66927 -5.66927 359.9991 119.05481 %%MetaPostSpecial: 7 1 1 1 1 0.94118 1 3 I had in my .bashrc: CONTEXT_RUBYSCRIPTS=/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-local/scripts/ context/ruby/ export CONTEXT_RUBYSCRIPTS and had CONTEXT_RUBYSCRIPTS in my path. Carefully had the executable and read-allowance bits set on all the ruby scripts. I guess it must have something to do with the ruby scripts, probably MacOSX unique, I fear. Something done differently with regard to the perl scripts perhaps? Taco already hinted at the possibility of some end-of-line problem. Alas, my knowledge of ruby is nonexistent, so I have no idea what and where to look for. I tried hard to find a solution, but I really have no firm idea what could cause these problems.
