Positioning tag adding space before a chapter

I am using \StartPos and \StopPos to determine where text is positioned in the output document. This works very well except that when it is placed before the first chapter in the bodymatter it adds a blank page. All of the other chapters are fine. Is there some way for me to make this not happen? I don't understand everything inthe StartPos def. But if I remove the \StartPos from before the first chapter the blank page is not there, but I need that positioning information. I will be greatful for any help. Dear gang, For a dossier I need to prepare a single part with page numbers I-1, I-2, I-3 etc. The following gives 1-1, 1-2, etc. ================================== \starttext \part{} \dorecurse{12}{\input knuth\par} \stoptext ================================== I could also cheat and just define my own conversion for a few pages. Can someone remind me how to do that (assuming that's the only way)? Problem with ConTeXt installation

I'm having problems starting ConTeXt with texexec on my Gentoo system. I've installed ConTeXt using the MikTeX Package Manager: "for p in `mpm --list|grep context | tr -s [:space:] | cut -d ' ' -f 4`; do mpm --install=$p; done" followed by a "texhash" and an "updmap" for good measure, and I've upgraded to the latest tetex-3.0_p1-r3 in Gentoo's portage. I've also followed the guide: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Linux_Installation#Updating_Gentoo_Linux and modified /etc/texmf/fmtutil.d/00fmtutil.cnf by adding a '*' where indicated in the above referenced wiki. followed by texmf-update. bfrange block CMap error in pdf file

This file produces just a boldface 'a' via metafun: ============= bf.tex ============== \setuppagenumbering[location=] \starttext \startreusableMPgraphic{fig} label (\sometxt{\bf a}, (0,0)); \stopreusableMPgraphic \reuseMPgraphic{fig} \stoptext ============= bf.tex ============== 'xpdf bf.pdf' produces tons of this error: Error: Illegal entry in bfrange block in ToUnicode CMap The log file had complaints from pdfetex about not finding fonts: Warning: pdfetex (file /home/sanjoy/texmf/fonts/map/dvipdfm/context/original-public-lm.map): invalid entry for `cmex9': font file missing which I eventually fixed by getting it to use the pdftex map files instead of the dvipdfm map files. Though I don't understand fully why I could fix it (but that's for another msg). Even with the map files being found, the bfrange block error remained. The test file worked fine on the context live, so I diffed its pdf file with the one generated here, after uncompressing both (using pdftk: "pdftk bf.pdf output bb.pdf uncompress"). The working pdf file has def /CMapType 2 def 1 begincodespacerange <00> ... beginbfrange <0E> The broken one has def/CMapType 2 def1 begincodespacerange<00> ... beginbfrange<0E> which may explain why xpdf is unhappy about the range entries. I'm not sure whether it's due to a further problem with my map files or texmf.cnf paths, or is a bug in pdftex. Any thoughts?
