Using metapost stuff in ConTeXt

Suppose I have a .mp file foo.mp, which contains some shared definitions and two images: beginfig(1); % some stuff endfig; beginfig(0); % some other stuff endfig; If I run mptopdf on this file I get foo-0.pdf and foo-1.pdf. And that works fine. But can I somehow interface directly from within ConTeXt to these images without doing the mptopdf myself in a way that the ConTeXt tools maintain the mp->image process, that these images are only recreated when the .mp file has changed and not on every run? protruding in the margin

Hi, if I have a text with footnotes in the margin - see below. How do I also define those footnotes to use protruding? Steffen P.S. I know we had this already - but I forgot it. Urgent index problem

I am one night from a deadline and I have just noticed that my index is silently ignoring some entries... Help!! The following demonstrates the problem (tested on live.contextgarden.net) -- \starttext \startregister[index]{this term+in+particular} This term is discussed from the start of this page.\page[yes] Some more text about the term, and another page.\page[yes] And the end of the info about that term. \stopregister[index]{this term+in+particular}\page[yes] A page unrelated to that term.\page[yes] \index{this term+in+particular} And then another page on exactly the same term.\page[yes] \placeindex\page[yes] Disaster! The entry on page 5 has been eaten! \stoptext -- So we have the same terms referenced as a span over pages 1 to 3, and as a single entry on page 5. But only the span appears, not the second entry! The .tuo file contains: \registerentry{index}{t} \registerentrya{index}{this term} \registerentryb{index}{in} \registerentryc{index}{particular} \registerfrom{index}{,}{1}{2::0:0:0:0:0:0:0::1}{1} \registerpage{index}{,}{3}{2::0:0:0:0:0:0:0::5}{5} \registerto{index}{,}{2}{2::0:0:0:0:0:0:0::3}{3} so it looks like the sorting of these by page numbers has broken, and ConTeXt thinks that page 5 is between pages 1 and 3. I hope someone can help... Duncan

my new page on layout

I've authored a new page on laying out pages in ConText. This page will be just one in a number of pages on using ConTeXt with XML. The new page can be found at http://www.geocities.com/paulhtremblay/context_xml/page2.html I would appreciate any feedback. I hope the page will be useful in helping others overcome some of the difficulty I had in trying to understand layout in ConTeXt. I believe it is very thorough. I hope it is clear (it contains many illustrations) and accurate. I put this page up on yahoo because it had so many graphics, and because trying to cut and paste the entire page to the wiki would have been too difficult. The yahoo location is just temporary. lmr (texnansi vs ec)

Dear gang, Why does lmr in ConTeXt use the ec instead of the texnansi encoding? I just noticed that all of my macros that use, e.g., \char'25 are now bringing up the wrong symbols. lmr / latest beta

Hi all, since I haven't used it for a long time (in ConTeXt terms), I decided to update my context before starting a major project. As usual, I grabbed the latest beta from pragma and installed it. The first thing I noticed was that context defaults to latin modern now - great. Unfortunately, it complained a lot about missing fonts like "ec-lmr12". The list archive helped to correct this by installing the contents of the cont-lmt zip. However, the fonts still are not found by pdftex. The resulting pdf is very small (1,5k), and acrobat reader complains about missing fonts. I tried adding the contents of ec-public-lm.map to pdftex.map. This resulted in a larger pdf (4,5k), with the font embedded according to acrobat, but showing as a blank page. I am rather confused by now - I always tried to avoid that font stuff whenever possible. What am I missing? Greetings, Eckhart

I use ConTeXt as part of a large XML-based workflow, but don't use TeXML (nor do I use much of the built-in parser, except for MathML processing). There are very many ways to integrate ConTeXt into XML work, and it needs to be clear that this is just one of them. It is entirely worthwhile documenting it though, and thanks for doing that. [In case anyone is interested, we use a (commercial) programming language called OmniMark to process DocBook-based XML into pure ConTeXt + MathML, and then let ConTeXt produce pages from it. We also use OmniMark directly to produce HTML and databases from the same XML sources.] Duncan

OT: looking for metapost/fun examples

I am trying to learn metapost/fun, inline in ConTeXt source. Some basic things are clear, but now the issue is metapost itself. For instance, I would like to plot a Fourier approximation of a block function. For instance, I would like to plot a gaussian spread. I am looking for examples on how to do this. I need to do a bit of programming here and these are my initial projects. Thanks in advance, G
