Hello! The following message was posted to comp.text.tex yesterday; I thought some of you who don't read the newsgroup regularly would like to hear about it, and so I'm passing it along. For those who haven't been following the story: Since the demise of Y&Y, there hasn't been a place to obtain a legal copy of their Lucida font distribution, which was the only place to get the Lucida New Math fonts needed for doing TeX math properly in Lucida. TUG has been in negotiations with the relevant copyright holders for a while in order to be able to distribute the fonts; this has finally come to fruition, and the fonts are now available again -- for prices considerably lower than what I gather Y&Y charged, and with a license that allows embedding the fonts in PDF files. - Brooks ======================================================================== Subject: Lucida fonts available from TUG Date: 10 Dec 2005 15:26:44 -0800 From: Karl Berry <karl(a)tug.org> Newsgroups: comp.text.tex Hi everyone, The Lucida fonts are now available through TUG; visit http://tug.org/lucida if you're interested. In short, the "complete set" offered by TUG is exactly the same 41 Lucida fonts which Y&Y sold. (The pfb's are completely unchanged.) There is also a "basic set" with 22 fonts -- all the math fonts and the essential text fonts. Both individual and site licenses are available. There is a substantial discount for TUG members. Due to legal and overhead considerations, we aren't currently planning to offer the fonts one at a time, or in any other bundles. Hopefully the price is low enough that this will not be a significant problem. The Lucida TeX support metrics and lucidabr (psnfssx) macros have been (slightly) updated. They have been uploaded to CTAN and should appear there in due course. Of course all the support files are included in the downloads from tug; they're on CTAN primarily for the benefit of Y&Y users who already have the fonts. We have also established a mailing list lucida(a)tug.org for user questions, suggestions, bug reports, etc. Please feel free to post and/or join. http://tug.org/mailman/listinfo/lucida A separate address, lucida-admin(a)tug.org, should be used for licensing, billing, and other such admin questions. Font samples, documentation, and more are available on the web site. Although we still expect to offer a license upgrade for Y&Y users, this has proven legally complicated, so it's not online quite yet. I'll post again when it is ready; it might be a few more weeks, given the holidays (and lawyers' usual working pace, anyway :). I didn't want this to delay making the fonts available, so decided to go ahead. Major thanks to Chuck Bigelow and Kris Holmes for generously allowing TUG to offer this to the TeX community - and especially for designing this remarkable typeface in the first place. An idea

A motivation and idea that came to mind while writing a post to comp.text.tex: == Then again, most (all?) of publishers require Latex source, if my document ever makes it that far.. And Latex has nicer source code formatting than Context. so I'm really split between Latex and Context.. None of them individually fit all (I admit, vague) requirements.. Context being able to chew up Latex .cls files and still allowing for its advanced formatting directives, long tables, and other goodies would be a perfect match. == Basically, rewrite standard Latex environments and commands (\chapter, \section, itemize, enumerate, etc..) present in article.cls and report.cls to expand to Context commands that give an equivalent layout.. How much work would it be? Either a Latex emulation environment or a new implementation of "Latex classes" for Context? I have to admit that I don't have time to start implementing either. I'm just interested in some feasibility opinions.. 80% of Latex<>Context transition can be done with a few simple regexes. Other 20% have to be translated by hand, and it is very painful, esp. if tables are in question..

Dear gang, I am now on WinXP now (up from W2000) and only use mswincontext.zip for my TeX'ing needs. However, I need to install LaTeX for legacy purposes (mainly Lambda/Aleph critical edition stuff). fpTeX is gone, I can't find XemTeX (broken link https://xemtex.groups.foundry.supelec.fr/downloads/xemtex-0.5-rc0.msi ) so I guess that leaves MiKTeX. Any advice on choosing/installing a minimal LaTeX distribution? Updated links? Output PDF version

Hi all, I just came across a situation where I must produce a pdf that has version 1.3 (or in worst case 1.4). I did not find anything on contextgarden or in the archives. Is there any ConTeXt command for this? I tried with \pdfoptionpdfminorversion=3 in the beginning of the file (as suggested on comp.text.tex), but still, acroread says it is a pdf version 1.5... /Micke P

Font Question

I want to use palatino text with euler math in my document. This is how I proceed. 1. I downloaded latest mswincontext environment from pragma website. 2. To test if palatino works correctly, I tested the simple document. %--------- \usetypescript[palatino][texnansi] \switchtobodyfont[palatino,11pt] \starttext This is a test . \stoptext %--------------- Everything works fine, and the text is in pallatino (the urw clone). However, when I look at fonts included in the document, Latin Modern is also there. I am just curious as how LM got into the document, and can I get rid of it. 3. I am not sure on how to include euler. I looked at Euler in ConTeXt (using Euler math font) by Adam Lindsay. I already have eulervm vf and tfm directories in $TEXMF/fonts/tfm/public/eulervm and $TEXMF/fonts/vf/public/eulervm There is a math-eul.tex at $TEXMFLOCAL/tex/context/base. The My Way by Adam says that I also need type-eul.tex, but I do not know where to get it from. \totalnumberofpages & texexec --pages=1:2

Hi, I use 'texexec --batch --pages=1:2' and "Page \pagenumber\ of \totalnumberofpages". What I get is: "Page 1 of 1" and "Page 2 of 2". I of cause like to see: "Page 1 of 2". Any ideas how to get this? Tobias
