The Context Mamual describes the margin block suite of commands as "under construction" (p. 235.) Have they in fact been improved and if so what additional usage notes if any are applicable? What version of Context has the improvements? John Culleton

a common interface for pretty printing

With the xtags-* pretty printing macros, I can't find a common interface for pretty printing. For instance, to typeset my XML code at a small size, and using a grayscale palet, I require three different setups depending on whether I'm using \showXMLbuffer, \typebuffer, or \startXML ... \stopXML. % override xtag-* pretty printing options \definepalet [xtag] [0=grayprettyone, 1=grayprettytwo, 2=grayprettythree, 3=grayprettyfour] \def\ShowXMLBuffer{\bgroup\tfx\showXMLbuffer\egroup} % local override of global verbatim typing \def\TypeXMLBuffer% {\bgroup \setuptyping[option=XML,palet=graypretty,style=\tfx]% \typebuffer \egroup} % global XML pretty printing \setuptyping [XML] [palet=graypretty,style=\tfx,indentnext=no] As you can see, although each is trivial to customize but they don't share a common interface with each other. Am I just missing the context-way of achieving the above pretty printing?

Mixed page formats

Hi all, I'm creating a usual document with the page format A4 portrait. But I have 2 special cases. a) Some tables and figures do not fit on a portrait page, but should be "landscaped" together with their caption. The page header and footer should remain in portrait format. So, we have a "mixed" page. b) Some pages with figures are printed on A3 landscape, the paper is folded afterwards to fit into the binding. Now: Is there a method to handle that with Context directly without manually creating PDFs and insert them in a second stage in the document? I'd really like to avoid that to get the numbering right. ConTeXt and expert fonts (redux)

Hi, all. I'm trying to come to terms with some expert fonts, and to map a strategy for dealing with them. Right now, I'm looking at the limits described by font-ini, and trying to see if I understand them correctly. Small caps are treated as a style of their own, which doesn't interact with \bf boldface the same way \it italic or \sl slanted do. With some of the pro fonts I'm starting to deal with (e.g., Cronos Pro or Minion Pro), there are small caps for each of \bf, \it, and \bi, as well as the normal \tf typeface. <http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/pdfs/1733.pdf> The existing model can be interpreted this way: | shape | weight|norm |slant|ital |caps | ------|-----|-----|-----|-----| norm| tf | sl | it | sc | bold| bf | bs | bi | | I'm not enthusiastic about the slanted shape in general, so I would draw another model, basically as a 2x2x2 cube, but rendered here in 2 slices: (lowercase) (smallcaps) | shape | | shape | weight|norm |ital | weight|norm |ital | ------|-----|-----| ------|-----|-----| norm| tf | it | norm| sc | ic | bold| bf | bi | bold| bc | bt | (who knows what the short name of the last cell should be?) I see this as being typographically more attractive than the dependence on \kap{} and similar commands (since the stroke weight stays much more consistent when you use the pre-defined, non-faked glyphs). So. How would I manage this? I guess I'm wondering if I'm going to get into trouble if I experiment with redefining \slfam, \ttfam, and \bsfam for my own nefarious purposes? It's interesting, and it definitely seems to be similar in spirit to the font- based switches for tabular (monospaced) vs. proportional figures that are enabled by these pro fonts. I haven't studied this in detail (texexec -- module completely fails on this one), but can it include font switching? Would that be the appropriate approach? odd behavior (i think) on part in table of contents

hi Again, Thanks in advance for the help here. I have the following: \setuphead[part] [incrementnumber=yes] \setuplist [part] [alternative=f, aligntitle=no, width=0em, margin=0em, before=\blank, after=\blank, style=bold] \definecombinedlist [contentList] [part,chapter,section,subsection,subsubsection] [level=subsection, criterium=local] \setupcombinedlist [contentList] [partnumber=no] When i place this list (the table of contents), i get the Part to show up in the ToC, but it's weird looking. First, it is resetting the Chapter numbering at each new Part. If i set incrementnumber=no, then the Part doesn't show up at all in the ToC. Also, when the Part shows up in the ToC [when i set incrementnumber=no], each subsequent Part is indented the margin of the previous one (plus resetting the chapter numbering). Any thoughts? header/footer suppression

I can't get both a blank page inserted whenever a chapter finishes on an odd page and also suppress my header on the first page of a chapter. Euler math again (virtually)

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone else was interested in the Euler math font. I was a bit frustrated in its incomplete coverage of certain symbols (e.g. delimiters, radicals), but then I discovered the Virtual Euler Math fonts/eulervm for LaTeX. It yields a set of virtual fonts (zeu*.vf) that make the glyph set look a lot like the default computer-modern math fonts. <http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/ eulervm.html?action=/tex-archive/fonts/> I've come up with a math collection (math-zeu) and a combined typescript file (type-zeu) that seem to give good enough results. Does anyone do enough math typesetting to want to test "zeuler" out? I've gotten good enough results this evening, but I don't have a lot of sophisticated formulae lying around to do a full test. Does anyone have some semi- demanding (non-AMS-territory) math for me to try?
