color band

Dear syndicate, For a book cover I want a green-colored rectangular band, centered, at the very top of the page, with text in some other color (to be determined) overlapping the band. The band is small, just, say, 2cm high and 12 cm wide. Since it's at the top it is surrounded by white on only three sides. I'm not even sure where to get started here (I don't think the LaTeX Graphics Companion will be much help:->) Here is part of my present layout. I'll have to put this band in the topspace and increase it, I presume: \definepapersize[journal][width=5.5in, height=8.5in] \setuppapersize[journal][letter] \setuplayout[width=middle, | height=19cm, | footer=0cm, | header=0cm, | topspace=28pt, | location={middle,doublesided}, | marking=on] I hope the solution is Plain-compatible since I may have to use Gamma for some Arabic insertions. Otherwise I'll have to eps those insertions. Thnx in advance Idris

Paragraph setup

Hello, I was trying, without convincing results, to define a float containing a text block which would be typeset in the top right corner of a page and would have specified width. Also if there would happen another float like this on the page it should be typeset below the first one and the text should flow around both of them. Is there any simple way to do that? Dear ConTeXt users, i have a question about textbackgrounds. Is there a) something like \setuptextbackground[all][frame=on,...] that sets frame=on for all the textbackgrounds out there? Or better: b) is there any way to inherit parameters? \definetextbackground[A][frame=off] \definetextbackground[B][A] so that B also has frame=off set? Patrick

A change in textext Metafun maco?

Good noon. I have updated to the new ConTeXt and some of my documents failed to work. I use the FunnyFrame example from the Metafun manual. With the old ConTeXt all worked well. Now I can see in the title of a frame just "unknown". I played a little with the mpgraph.mp and I suspect the macro textext not to work well. Or in the same way as before. Where can be a bug? (Well, I updated only TeX, Metapost, and Perl part of ConTeXt and generated formats -- I didn't updated the ConTeXt stuff for plain or for LaTeX). Can you help me? Many thanks. Michal Kvasnicka

suppressing header on first page of chapter

greetings, i have setup a head for my chapters, and i would like to suppress the Chapter and Section text from being printed on the first page of each chapter. I have setup the header text like so. \setupheadertexts [text] [chapter] [section] is there a command to add to the \setuphead to make the chapter and section titles not print on the first page of the chapter (head)? thanks, mark

Context, MacOS, accents

Hi, I'm using ConTeXt on my iMac (teTeX distribution through I-installer program) Everything seems OK except for inputing accentuated characters ... If I type \'a I got the correct character (accentuated a) but if I type directly the accentuated character from the keyboard, I got no result .... I start my document with \useregime[mac] (or \enableregime[mac]) but it does not change anything .... Any idea ? (sorry if it's a Faq but I didn't find any solution in reading the mailing list archive ....) thanks in advance jp

local environments

Hi: I have a project with a few different types of documents, so I want to set up a few local environments in the same global environment file. Is the following a legitimate environment file? \startenvironment Layout ... some global settings ... \startlocalenvironment[Alternative] ... some local settings ... \stoplocalenvironment \stopenvironment If it is legitimate, how do I specify that a document use the global settings with specific settings from the local environment. I tried \environment Layout \localenvironment Alternative but any macros defined in the local environment are reported as undefined. Thanks, Matt
