bug in chart module

MP Graph and texnum.mpx

Hi ConTeXters, I've been using the MPGraph part of MetaPost and its corresponding m- graph ConTeXt module this week. I've been getting very attractive results that I will encourage my partner to use in her PhD. I was baffled for a while why I could get graphing to work beautifully in one directory, but in no others. I finally tracked it down to the system requiring texnum.mpx in the current working directory. I believe this file contains the MP-ified numbers that MPGraph puts on the axes. My question is: why should this be? I *think* I have done everything else necessary to get MP working in ConTeXt. How can I automatically generate texnum.mpx in a way that 1) another user doesn't have to worry about it or 2) it sits in the path permanently? Some system details: I'm running a fresh TeXLive 7 install, with the latest ConTeXt from the website. I have \write18 enabled, \runMPfraphicstrue, \runMPTEXgraphicstrue, and MPXCOMMAND = texexec -- mptex. On the slightly unusual side, I have \forceMPTEXgraphictrue, which seemed necessary at one point, and no \recycleMPslotstrue, which seemed unnecessary. I'm thrilled with the integration of MetaPost's Graph capabilities, beyond this strange behaviour that took a long time to track down. It was very easy to get very attractive results from simple data files. As a side question, would I have to fiddle with texmf/metapost/base/ texnum.mp to affect the font of the x- and y-axis numbers on an MPGraph plot? They seem to stick to CMR no matter what I do to defaultfont in MetaPost. source files and ConTeXt style

Hi. I'm just starting to look at detailed TeX stuff. I'd like to write some ConTeXt-style macros to support a user. I've already wrapped some MPGraph functions in some old-fashioned TeX-style multiple-argument macros, but I would like to offer my user something more modern and ConTeXt-like. Does anyone have any hints on looking at the ConTeXt code for writing modules? Any hints on achieving Hans-like \dodododo zen? Ik heb een beetje nederlands, but finding mappings between nl-commando's and en- commands is still elusive when trying to decode some multilingual sources. So I know it's too much to ask to get inside Hans's brilliant mind, but I was wondering if some power-users can offer some hints in terms of starting to understand the style of the sources. Showing parts of PDF files or splitting PDF files

Hi, I need to include a PDF picture in a ConTeXt document that is much too detailed to be scaled down onto a single page. So I need to distribute it across two ore more pages. - Is there a way to display only a part of a PDF file in ConTeXt, like it could be done with manipulation of the bounding box of a PostScript picture in LaTeX? - Does anyone know an application that will split a PDF file into user-defined parts (not just printing pages)? - Any other ideas? Gamma support in TeXExec?

Hello, I noticed that TeXExec has no "native" support for Gamma, in the sense that it doesn't change the "cont-" prefix to "gamma-" when the TeX executable is set to Omega. I did a patch to make this possible, but of course since there are no gamma-<language>.tex files, it doesn't work that simply. I therefore did a more extensive patch (it has to dump the format as cont-en and then rename it) but this is sub-optimal. It would be very easy to do if (recent) fpTeX and teTeX supported the --job-name option ... is this the case? If so, the patch can be done very easily. Anybody using fpTeX or teTeX know about this? -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta

Apologies for the empty message, subject as above. I have found a set of macros that allow either makeindex or Xindy (in makeindex emulation) to run with Context. This allows for more functionality than the present register commands available from Context proper. They generate a makeindex type output file, which can either be processed by makeindex directly or by Xindy via the makeindex4 script and tex2xindy program called by it. Here are the requirements: Complete Xindy package (or complete makeindex package) index.tex from TeXsis site. A simple input statement starts things off: \input index.tex The indexing commands are \index{--- and \idx{--- \idx causes whatever is between { and } to be printed as well as added to the index. The usual conventions found in the LaTeX \index.sty package obtain. Here are some valid statements: \idx{foo} \index{foo!bar} %subitem \index{fable@foo!babble@bar} %subitem with alternate sorting on both %levels \index{Jose|(} %start range \index{Jose|)} %stop range \index{italicized|ital} %italicized page number. ...and so on. ` If the \idx statement form is used, and \markindextrue is present then the indexed terms will be printed in the document with a box around them indicating that they are indexed. This is a two pass system. The command to import the finished index is \input filename.ind ...where filename is the name of the tex file being indexed. In between the two passes one of these two commands must be run: makeindex filename.idx or for the Xindy alternative: makeindex4 filename.idx Here is a sample document: ---------------- \input index.tex \starttext \index{foo!bar} ... \index{France@{\it France}} \page[yes] \input filename.ind \stoptext --------------- The full power of Xindy in Context is not yet unleashed.
