Hi, maybe a very simple question: In the following table the formatting of the framed elements is strange ----- cut ----- \starttext \bTABLE \bTABLEhead \bTR \bTH Keyboard Shortcut \eTH\bTH Description \eTH \eTR \eTABLEhead \bTABLEbody \bTR \bTD \inframed{:} + \inframed{q} + \inframed{Enter} \eTD\bTD Quit the program \eTD \eTR \eTABLEbody \eTABLE \stoptext how can I make sure both framed texts stay on one line without using \hbox. why btex...etex or textext() does not work?

Hallo ConTeXt list member, I am new member in the list so apologize if I ask for something trivial. But I have been looking in documentation, in ConTeXt source code, in the Net... Unsuccessfully. Perhaps someone here will known. I have this simple file zk.tex: %--------------------- \starttext Hallo. \startuseMPgraphic{zk} picture p; p:= btex Text1 etex; % p:= textext("Text2"); % label(btex Text3 etex, origin); draw p; draw origin--(1cm,1cm); \stopuseMPgraphic \useMPgraphic{zk} \stoptext %---------------------- When I run texexec zk the compilation pass successfuly but the result is without line and "Text1". In the case of "Text2" I obtain line and "unknown" (picture) text and in the case of "Text3" the same as in "Text1". The log file from my recent context distribution on Linux web2c is in the attachment. The file mpgraph.mpx is created with correct content (Text1). But next run of metapost does not include it. The only way how to obtain desired result is to run mpost directly mpost mpgraph.mp But it is not possible with the "textext". The instalation is standard. Only I set \setupoutput[pdftex] \usesymbols[nav] \setupsymbolset[navigation 1] \recycleMPslotstrue \runMPgraphicstrue \runMPTEXgraphicstrue \useMETAFUNformattrue in cont-sys.tex So, what I am doing worse? Table problem

Hi Hans, I need to make a set of tables, which are quite simple. I wanted to use the \starttable..\stoptable environment. However I get very strange results in the last column (p-column) Please have a look at the test.tex file. Do I something in a wrong way or is there something broken? Thanks for your support. Paragraph indentation in enumerations?

Hello, When I write mathematics I need some way of making theorems and proof. Hi all, I hou also van the Bitstream Charter font and I am looking for a matching monospace. To my mind LuxiMono fits Charter very well but the percepted sizes don't match at all. I would like to downscale LuxiMono by at least ten per cent when using it with Charter. What is the ConTeXt way to achieve this? Thanks a lot, as always. Hi, I have a problem with \useexternaldocument in a recent beta: ! Standard ligatures in ec encoding

Hi all, I have installed the URW fonts with texfont --batch --encoding=ec type-tmf.dat The \setupbodyfont[pos,10pt] works well, but there is no f-ligatures in the output. The fi and fl are in the character table (in ec-urw-times.tex the \ShowFont shows both), but \showligatures doesn't show these. What is wrong? Greetings Bence Nagy

Hi, i would like to know - if i can draw a gradient/shading with two RGBA colors, for example, a gradient starting with red=1 and alpha=0.5 and ending with green=1 and alpha=0.7 - if it is possible to add some capabilities to texutil, or where else it is needed, so that externalfigure "somefile" scaled 2 ; has the original figure-size scaled 2 and not unitsquare scaled 2 Best, Jens

Docbook In Context, new version

Hi, I have uploaded a new version of DocbookInContext. This version has a sizable contribution by Richard Rascher-Friesenhausen, with a.o. Metapost graphics for admonitions, a Spanish translation of literal strings by Pablo Rodriguez, and numerous small features. It also introduces backgrounds, a.o. for programlistings, but unfortunately this feature seems to cause spurious page breaks under certain circumstances. In addition the web page has a nice example of how you can customize DocbookInContext by writing your own module, also by Richard Rascher-Friesenhausen. Index questions

I have some questions about the index (register) facility in ConTeXt. 1) I like that ConTeXt automatically breaks the index into portions by first letter, but how do I change the style of the subhead that says 'a', 'b', or whatever? Among other things, I would like these little subheads to be uppercase. 2) Sometimes a topic is referenced at two nearby places in the text. If these places fall on separate pages, I would like the index to mention both of them. If they fall on the same page, however, the index entry is duplicated. I expected texutil to remove duplicate index entries when sorting. Is it supposed to? (This is not a major problem; I can work around it.) 3) Likewise (this is a suggestion rather than a question) it would be nice if ConTeXt automatically transformed a sequence of 3 or more consecutive index entries (such as 10, 11, 12) into a page range (10-12). I realize there is a facility (\startindex...\stopindex) to get these page ranges manually, so again this is not a major issue. 4) If I have the command \seeindex{foo}{bar} and also \index{foo} on page 17, it would be nice if the index could say foo 17 see also bar rather than just "see bar". Is there a way to get this behavior? -- Miller Maley

fontsize in math

Hi Hans, I encountered an issue in fontsizing in math mode that I do not understand. Searched the manual but couldn't find (or missed) the clue. Using the green presentation style but changed to a somewhat larger fontsize by adding: \setupbodyfont[lbr, sans, 17.3pt] % lucidabright typesetting the following text: {abc$abc$abc} --- {\tfx abc$abc$abc} --- {\tfx abc}{$\tfx abc$}{\tfx abc} In the first the abc's have the same size. In the second the math part has kept its size, the other two are smaller. In the third the math part is now so small is doesn't match in size as it did in the first. I would have thought the math would vary in accordance with the \tfx. However, within $'s the font does not follow the outside \tfx, while inside a different size seems to be chosen. I am baffled. The result is impressive. hat off to hans and idris samawi for their effort. omega is a tex version that support utf-8 input. it can be used to typeset arabic. here are some of the things I discovers that might be useful to others; my system: context 2003.1.31 omega 1.23.2.1 tetex 2.0 1. using the command texexec --make --alone --tex=omega en fail. you need to recompile omega. get tetex-src-2.0.tar.gz. I am not a programmer, but know enough to hack bit and pieces. also, I cannot assure whether it safe or not. but, it works. do the usual ./configure and make stuff. Hi all, I want to have description placed in marging (location=inmargin) and I want to have description item text wider than width of margin. So the text must be formatted into paragraph. If I use \setupdescription[abc][text={Some long leading text: }] this leading text is typeset in paragraph. If I use \startabc{something after leading}...\stopabc the text "something after leading" does NOT become part of paragraph ans it is typeset in one box (hbox). Columns in itemizations

Hello, following up to a recent post on comp.text.tex I'd like to bring forth an enhancement request for itemgroups: in the current implementation it is not possible to set up itemgroups to use the non key=value pairs settings. IOW, one cannot say \defineitemgroup[myitems] \setupmyitems[each][A] and have the items come up numbered with capital letters. Some keywords (like: joinedup) work, some others (the numbering type ones, for example, or "columns") don't work. For what I can see by looking at the code, this depends on these settings being looked for *not* when setting up the itemizations, but in the actual moment when the \start<itemgroup> is issued (this is for example the case for "columns"). Enhancement request: allow all keywords to work. I think the most straightforward way to implement this is to simply store the keywords and put them as default values when \start<itemgroup> is called (this would even, I suspect, simplify the handling of the itemgroup setups ...) -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta

Using command in section

Hi all, I'm using private macro for title of section: \setuphead[section][command=\doTitle] and if I typeset inside this \doTitle#1#2 something like (test code): \vbox to 0pt{ \hsize=3cm \hbox{\vtop{#1}\vtop{#2}} \hbox{\vtop{X} \vtop{The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.}} \vss } I get two boxes -- the first (made from #1 and #2) NOT aligning the first lines of vtop's (#1 is higher) and the second, which is aligned as I expect -- both "X" and "The quick..." in the one "line". So I traced data coming into #2 and content of \vtop filled with it and I saw the #2 contains some vertical glue at the beginning. What should I do to avoid this behaviour? Indenting in description

Hello! I have a problem with indent in the description environment (I use the latest beta of ConTeXt). When I have descriptions that are longer than one paragraph I want the next paragraphs indented in the same way as the other parts of the document. Bonjour à tous, I'm trying to switch from Latex + pstrick to latex3 and Metapost (alias context :-) For now, I'm trying to reproduice a Latex + Seminar + pstricks slides. Before to switch to Metapost, I'd like to include the pstricks figure as pdf external file (from eps file) The figure is OK and I can see it with xpdf or acroreqad. But when I use it in ConText, the background is all black. Hi, I tried to begin a presentation, and tried to learn from the best (Hans Hagen in this case ;-) However, I get a failure with the minimal test case below. So I think my problems are boring to most of you ... anyway, they are bothering me :-( I've found in the manual how to produce ä, ö etc ... the german Umlaute. but I wasn't succesfull with the sharp s (ß) ... can anyone help? Hi, ok, here some more problems which I couldn't find a solution in the manual. First the space between two paragraphs. For example \enableregime[il1] \starttext paragraph 1\par paragraph 2\par \stoptext Should come out like two lines with one empty line in between. but it comes out like two lines with no empty line in between. I tried \paragraph, I tried \par and even nothing but an empty line, processing the file with texexec always "glues" the two paragraphs together like paragraph 1 paragraph 2 What is my fault here? Next problem are the high commatas "blah". In german language the first one has to come on the bottom of the line ... but this way the are typesetted like in english ... above. I tried "`blah"', but this doesn't work either. Also adding \language[de] at the beginning doesn't change that behaviour. Can anybody help? Chinese text failed to flow around pictures

when I tried: \placefigure [right] {Some picture} {\externalfigure[temp][type=jpg,width=5cm]} Blah blah ... % These should be pure Chinese characters. In the generated Chinese PDF file, the paragraph right after the figure just runs over the picture like it were not there. But if I append some English words before Chinese, everything would be fine. And \startfiguretext[left] works as expected. Any ideas? Guo

Dear Cabinet, A couple of footnote questions: 1. Is there an option for choosing one's own reference mark for any given footnote, like in Plain? 2. Is there a conversion option for the famous nine reference mark sequence (\fnsymbol in LaTeX): star, dagger, double dagger, section, inverted `P', parallel, star-star, dagger-dagger, double dagger-double dagger ? I did not see it in the manual. 3. Is there a way to control the distance between the footnote rule and the firstline of the footnote? 4. ConTeXt places the footnote reference mark just on the outside of the margin. Can I place it inside? Can I indent the first paragraph of the footnote with the reference mark (like in LaTeX)? Unrelated: Can I make an entire document default to oldstyle numbers? (Probably not, since Knuth mapped these glyphs in a strange way). Testing a sample in details.pdf

While I'm testing some examples in details.pdf (http://www.pragma-ade.com/temp/details.pdf) a curious thing happened. Let me assume that I have the following test file (test.tex) which was extracted from details.pdf (p.13) I generated two PDF files, test-1.pdf and test-2.pdf, by the following ways, respectively. 1. new line in \writetolist ?

Same question again, perhaps a bit more clear... (And, please, I need an answer until Sunday! Thanks.) How can I make a line break in an \writetolist entry? e.g. \writetolist[chapter]{This is a very long chapter name\\that doesn't fit in one line} Neither \\ nor \crlf does anything. Expansion problem in natural table

I have an expansion problem in natural tables. I need to have this: \bTD\XMLDBcontinuepartrue\ignorespaces\XMLflush{revremark}\eTD but \XMLflush{revremark} must be expanded. When I do that using \expanded, \expanded{\bTD\noexpand\XMLDBcontinuepartrue\ignorespaces\XMLflush{#1}}\eTD I get errors when I have compound characters: \XMLDBcontinuepartrue\ignorespaces Kleine \dobuildtextaccent\char 127 A{}nderung It should be \dobuildtextaccent{\char 127} A for it to be valid. Or it should be \buildtextaccent\textdiaeresis A In other words, \XMLflush{#1} should be expanded, but not all the way down. How do I get that? I've looked at the verb-XML module, and verb-ini module, and have have seen hints that it may be possible to typeset XML code snippets, such as <table> into the main text. Is it possible to inline such XML expressions into the main text, using the same color setup as has been defined in the verb-XML macros?

table column alignment

More on tables and such: Looking through "The Elements of Typographic Style," the author recommends tables be aligned on the decimal or flush right. If there is no decimal in an entry using the decimal alignment, in effect such a number is aligned as if it had a decimal. What you get is something like: 10 10.2 10.34 I cannot seem to do this in ConTeXt. It seem either all figures must have a decimal, or must not. Bruce

Math Euler and mp-graph

Hello, Hans, all, I'm trying to finalise my euler-math typescripts and type encodings. It seems to work everywhere, except in metapost mode. It's a mystery. My latest math-eul and type-eul are attached, (play along at home! put them in your tex/context/third directory! Now with eulerbold!) and when the following is run with them, I don't get any decimals in the numerical labels. \usemodule [graph] \startMPenvironment%[global] \usetypescriptfile[type-eul] \usetypescript[eul] \setupbodyfont[eul,10pt] \stopMPenvironment \starttext \startMPcode draw begingraph(100mm,50mm); setcoords(linear,log); setrange(0,0.01,2,1.0); autogrid(itick.bot,itick.lft) withcolor .75white ; endgraph; \stopMPcode \stoptext ...I've tried the same code with math times and computer modern, and they work fine. Does anyone have a clue why metapost/metafun would be inserting something other than a normal mathperiod? That's the only guess I have as to where it might be happening. I spent a morning meditating on mp-form, mp-grph, and the like, but did not reach enlightenment. Can anyone else using m-graph confirm this behaviour? Inserting a mini toc into the chapter heading

I'm stymied! I've looked at Hans' code for inserting a local toc into a chapter heading: http://ml-archives.mini.pw.edu.pl/ntg-context/msg04713.html I just can't get it to generate a local toc.
