Hi, In document I have: \setupinterlinespace[medium] and I would like to have different interline space when I use: \starttyping ... \stoptyping I tried: \setuptyping [typing] [blank=each_possible_value_from_manual] ;) but there is no effect. What is wrong ?... -- Best regards Martin

Helmut asked about a complete distribution of TeX files for Microsoft's standard fonts, and here it is: http://www.fiee.net/texnique/?menu=0-1-4&lang=en http://www.ramm.ch/fiee/texnique/material/microsoft-fonts4context.zip Unzip the archive in your TeX root (texmf-local or where you installed ConTeXt). ConTeXt, XML and verbatim

I. I'm working on some documentation writen in XML. This documentation contain many nested XML files. To process XML I use simple ConTeXt construction \processXMLfilegrouped{file.xml} (or) \starttext \processXMLfilegrouped{file.xml} \stoptext In XML source nested files are involved by <nested/> tag. To process nested XML files I have defined something like this: \defineXMLcommand [nested] {\processXMLfile{\XMLpar{nested}{src}{}}} It works good. I want to treat each 'newline-char' as a space (in the whole document). For that purpose I use: \catcode`^^M=10 The problem is that it DOESN'T work for nested XML files. How can I set someting like this for the whole XML structure, not only for file processed just 'under' ConTeXt? It works only for the file processed directly by the command \processXMLfile{...} II. Meybe someone knowns how to 'translate' verbatim environments for XML code? I mean how to define environment which I can use in this way <verbatim> .... </verbatim> to get literal content of such XML tag? Thanks, Paweł Jackowski

texfont / typescripts

Ahoi! Hans, texfont seems to have a little bug: If one installs TrueType fonts, it complains about missing pfb (I can ignore that), but the map file maps only to pfb, not ttf. My install-font script fixes that, but I suppose it's no problem to fix that in texfont. I didn't try OpenType yet, but guess the same problem. And I'd suggest to let texfont write a sample typescript, as my script does. (Then I could drop it.) BTW: There's now a typescript for Microsoft's standard TT fonts in my collection. Hallo Hans, did you already have some time to have a look in question number 2? I am asking because next week I could typeset a book that has about 80 smaller figures which need to be included in the text - textpages with one image top/left and another bottom/right (with text flowing around both). And since your answer I have hope again that it is possible to be done in ConTeXt. (Otherwise I'd have to use another program like FrameMaker which I try to avoid.) I want to have chapter names in the header text and I want them in boldface. This works: \setupheadertexts[text][{\bf My book}][chapter] but this: \setupheadertexts[text][{\bf my book}][\bf chapter] just shows the literal word "chapter". So how do I do this? John Culleton

ConTeXt project structure?

It is probably my lack of brain cells, but I do not understand chapter 2 of the ConTeXt manual at all. Suppose I have a manual-like document and I want to produce different PDF-files out of it: 1. The book 2. The book in another layout 3. The book in screen format with navigation 4. A simple presentation with bullet points, one or more pages per chapter As I understand it I will need 4 environments: .../foo/bookenv.tex .../foo/book2env.tex .../foo/bookscreenenv.tex .../foo/presentation.tex and I can put each chapter in a component file, i.e. chapter1.tex, chapter2.tex etc. .../foo/chapter1.tex .../foo/chapter2.tex But here my understanding stops. - Should I create a project file for each of the 4 modes above? And put these in different subdirectories as in: .../foo/book/book.tex .../foo/book2/book2.tex etc.? Or do I use multiple environments in one project and I can get 4 PDF's as a result? Or are these multiple products (I would guess this, but how then to set it up)? Should my chapter files contain \startcomponent \stopcomponent and does that mean they are independently compilable? I have been reading and re-reading this, but the relation between project, environment, component and product keeps escaping me. Is there a good example somewhere?

strange itemize

naming and distribution of typescripts

Hi, Walter Schmidt has made the font DayRoman from Apostrophic Labs available to TeX. Currently the support package doesn't contain any ConTeXt support, i.e. typescripts. I've made for me a typescript for these fonts and now Walter is interested in including ConTeXt support in his package. His package is distributed as zip-file that can be directly unpacked in a texmf-tree. Thus, where should the typescript-file be located? In my private texmf-tree i use TEXMF/tex/context/user/typescripts/ and the file names start with "cts-" (i.e. cts-dayroman.tex). Is there some standard how to name typescripts and locate them in a texmf-tree, so that distribution of typescripts is possible in a controled way? BTW, i would prefer that \usetypescriptfile[dayroman] first tries to load dayroman.cts and if it is not available it tries dayroman.tex. Then we can use the extension "cts" for ConTeXt TypeScripts in the future. Best, Jens

Hello, while browsing the source, I came across the very nice \digits macro. But I have some comments: In my opinion some characters don't look right \starttext \digits 123.222,= % short, OK \digits 123.222,== % should be em dash (?) \digits +123.222,22 % OK \digits -123.222,33 % too small \stoptext The + and - should be the same size. MetaPost error

Hello I'm very newbie in ConTeXt and I can't generate any document with MetaPost... For example: \startFLOWchart etc. I generate: makemem metafun I did texexec --make --alone metafun and I still have error: initexmf: don't know to dump metafun I can't find default mem file! Where I can set it or something else do to fix this ?... Best regards martin

A change in ConTeXt content-lists?

Good evening. Some time ago I've typeset a rather complex document. Now I wanted to make some changes in its content (the text) but I wasn't able to compile it. The new version of ConTeXt/texutil/texexec ( ConTeXt ver: 2003.8.21, TeXExec 3.3) is probably slightly different. The first problem (\white in the textstyle of \setuphead) I have already fixed, but there is still one more problem. Can some of you help me? My problem is in the content-list. The first processing of the documnet is all right. In the second run I get this error message: (./dso_casove_rady.tuo ! Greek letters?

This is probably FAQ stuff but I'm in the middle of the end-of-project frenzy and don't have much time to hunt for an answer (especially when my computer arranged for a full day of extra work by busting the hard disk - at least I now can handily install our TeXLive+ConTeXt publishing system...). I would need a capital Omega. I thought this is a piece of cake and found the command \Omega on the TeX quick reference sheet. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work, I just get blank spot in the file. My font settings are: \enableregime[il1] %makes ConTeXt Windows compatible \usetypescript[berry][ec] %magic to make fonts work at all \setupbodyfont[pos,10pt] %my chosen fonts and font size Is there a module I should load to get the Greek? Or something I should put around the command? Or is it just the combination of encoding and regime that does this? Help will be deeply appreciated, Mari from Finland (with an end-of-project irritated boss)

Hyperlinks to locations in other documents

Hi, I am trying to get a group of documents to link together. The references to the other document work but the hyperlinks only open the document on the first page. What am I doing wrong? The linktest1 has links to testdoc2. For those trying them you may need to change the font part since my fonts are non standard (subject of other problems). Key lines from testdoc1.tex are \useexternaldocument[testdoc][testdoc2][This document is a test link] \goto{contents}[testdoc::contents] And key lines from testdoc2.tex are \page[yes] \section[contents]{Contents List} TIA -- Nigel

After reading the different manuals two questions still stay unanswered: 1. Is it true that a figure with text flowing around it (placefigure option left/right) has always to start with a beginning of a paragraph, so that it is not possible to place it in the middle of a text when it is mentioned there? 2. Concrete outline fonts

Hi folks. This is what happens when you're fighting insomnia in a foreign land. I started investigating the TeXLive tree, and came up with at least a partial solution to something that keeps getting asked about here. \setuplayout parameters

I want to set up a book 5.5 x 8.5 with .5in margins left and right. During the development process I want to be able to print it on US standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Here is my current prologue (I have tried several): \setupoutput[pdftex] \definepapersize[bok][width=5.5in,height=8.5in] \setuppapersize[bok][letter] \setuplayout[marginwidth=.5in,location=middle] \showframe When the resultant pdf is printed via Acrobat Reader I find the following anomalies: Total width of page outline: 5 7/16 in. Width of actual text block: 4.5 in approx. (this is OK.) Width of text block outline: 3 29/32 in (text overlaps block outline.) And so on. There are gaps between the margin outlines and the text block outline. The margin outlines are the wrong size. When I put the document in final form with \setuppapersize{bok][bok] and comment out \showframe Then the text block is not quite centered: the left margin is smaller than the right margin. Using Xpdf instead of Acrobat Reader shows the same anomalies. no Type1 fonts in ConTeXt?

I used to use PostScript font under MacOSX working with Gerben Wierda's tetex distributution. The pfb tfm etc. files I put in the texmf tree as Gerben suggested (~/Library/texmf) Everything works fine with LaTeX. Today I installed the uptodate ConTeXt files, followed by sudo mktexlsr and sudo fmtutil --all, and started experimenting. But whenever I want to use something different then CM, for example with \definetypeface [palatino] [rm] [serif] [palatino] [default] [encoding=ec] \switchtotypeface [palatino] [12pt,rm] \starttext A test W test Q test R \stoptext I get only errors (see below). What did I do wrong? Problems with the texmf paths? What is the right way? Other commands for using PS fonts? The currently ConTeXt release support UTF-8, CJKV locales can all be represented in UTF-8, so the mechanism is already done. IMHO, the real one work to do is to make the sets of typesetting conventions (typesetting rules) for each locale of CJKV (like the Chinese package did), that would varies quite much from locale to locale, all all of them are based on the same underlayed mechanism. Hello all, I have problems to understand the command (parameter) mechanism of context. My experiments with \getparameters didn't work, so I used \xdescgetparameters from Giuseppe Bilotta (t-xdesc.tex). In my eyes they look the same, but \xdescgetparameters works with my sample code, \getparameters don't. Mhhh.... % t-xdesc.tex \def\xdescsetvalue#1#2{\expandafter\def\csname#1#2\endcsname} \def\xdescgetparameters{\dogetparameters\xdescsetvalue} % syst-gen.tex \def\dosetvalue#1#2% #3 {\@EA\def\csname#1#2\endcsname} % {#3}} \def\getparameters {\dogetparameters\dosetvalue} This leads me to my two questions: What must I change, to make my test example run with \getparameters? Where is the error in my \docommand? All parameters but [height] work and the tracing output at this parameter (\OTRSETshowstatus) says nothing to me. Texexec changing directories

All, I need some help with an annoying feature that has cropped up after an update of Miktex and Context. D:\NSFGRANT\MultiCalc\VecMat>texexec --version TeXExec 3.2 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2003 total run time : 0 seconds F:\PuTTY> Note how the drive letter has changed. This is not just a minor annoyance, because if I have a "make" file such as make.bat defined by texexec --pdf --mode=screen --suffix="-s" Context-VecMat texexec --pdf --mode=letter --suffix="-p" Context-VecMat texexec --pdf --mode=screen --suffix="-s" Context-VecMat texexec --pdf --mode=letter --suffix="-p" Context-VecMat After the first run, the process stops because it can no longer find Context-VecMat on the f: partition. Help!

It's time to discuss the topic "CJK support in ConTeXt" in a more public place. The current version of ConTeXt supports Chinese only. But the same mechasism enables Korean too. The remaining language is Japanese. In some sense, it is possible to support Japanese in the current subfont mechanism. But several issues (e.g. Japanese kerning system as explained by Okumura) may occur. So, alternative way is to use ASCII pTeX for Japanese. Basically looks no problem but I worry eTeX extension features. Is it possible to run ConTeXt without eTeX extension features, Hans? My suggestion for supporting CJK characters in ConTeXt is to write a new module using e-Omega. Even though e-Omega does not produce PDF format directly, there are not much problem with DVIPDFMx. MPtoPDF problem: metafun.mem error

The pagenumbers display correctly like 1-2, 2-2, 3-2 etc. But referencing Chapter 2 from Part 1 in Part 3 with See \in{chapter}[colours] on \at{page}[colors] ... results in See chapter 2 on page 3 ... I want: See chapter 2 on page 1-3 ... How to achieve this? The original entry looked like this: @InProceedings {aapga, author = {Williams, Jeffery and Schaefer, Marv and Landoll, Douglas }, title = {Pretty good assurance}, booktitle = {New Security Paradigms Workshop}, year = {1995}, publisher = {ACM Special Interest Group on Security, Audit, and Control} } When bibtexed, the authors appear in the .bbl file, but they do not appear in the references list. The references list entry begins at "(1995)." Index sorting

Good morning. I'm sorry that I bother you all once more with the same thing as a half year ago, but I was unsuccessful. So: How works the mechanism that sort items for the index? I have to write down my own sorting system for the Czech language. (Mr. Hagen sent me some files for customizing the ConTeXt for the Czech language, but it didn't include index sorting.) Well, I would appreciate some example, since the task is not so easy. In the Czech for example `a' and `acaron' go under the same item `A', but `acaron' is sorted after `a'. On the other hand, `ccaron' has its own item in the index (under the item for `c'). And to be even more complex, `ch' is one letter in the Czech, having its own item in the index. how to integrate graphics flexibly?

Hi I am thinking about to switch from LaTeX to ConTeXt. The main reason for me is the need of "embedded" graphics (I'm not sure about the technical term typographically. In german it is "eingespiegelte Bilder".) The task could be like: - typesetting a book on art history - 450 pages A4 - 150 pictures included - all pictures should be placed close to the first time they are mentioned in the text - the shouldn't be more than two pictures per page. We will have three possibilities: a) Some pictures are in landscape format - they can be set width to textwidth. b) Others are moderate portrait format - in this case the title/caption can be set next to it (right/left) and both together can be set width to textwidth as well. c) But others are extreme portrait format (maybe height to width four to one). They need to be included into the text (with text floating around at one side). As a) and b) are set either at the top or at the bottom of a page it is necessary that also the graphics of case c) can be set this way. So I need to set figures with the following options: - ability to float - placing option top/bottom of page - placing option left/right respectively inner/outer edge of page - can be set to whole textwidth - can be alternatively included into the text (but floating, not only into the paragraph were they are mentioned)). Hello: I'm making some notes on English grammar for some students and I want to analyze a few sentences using parse trees. Is there a way to do trees in ConTeXt? I guess I'd need to use Metapost. Any pointers would be appreciated. Best wishes, Matt

Hi, I played a bit around with --pdfarrange and found out that I couldn't do: texexec --pdfarrange --paper=a5*a4,landscape --print='2UP,doublesided' file.pdf Since: paper becomes [A5][A4,LANDSCAPE] and /.*2UP.*/ becomes [2UP,doublesided,rotated] and I don't want to have it rotated. The attached patch makes TeXExec a bit more flexiable. Hans, please apply. Tobias
