Hi to all! I am new to ConTeXt and list and i want to stay for log! I have been rading lang-ita.tex and I see some error. I have post in comp.text.tex and Giuseppe Bilotta has sugest to send a patch to this list. I don't know how can i send the patch (a diff output is enough). What is an intermezzo for? I don't know if the traslation is ok. I'm also interested in adding basque language. Basque is not a romance language, but the typesetting is very similar to spanish. Some differences: 1) Instead of Chpater 1 -- in basque ---> 1 Kapitulua (Chapter) 2) When hypenating a compound word in the hypen, in the next line a hypen is also necesary anai-arrebak is hypendated anai- -arrebak 2) What files have i to change to add support for basque? HI I have been reading lang-ita.tex to see how a language is defined. There are some errors. I have compare the translation with those done by Javier Bezos in spanish for babel ( he has studied spanish typesetting to build the style) line 149 \setupheadtext [\s!es] [\v!tabellen=Tablas] instead of Tablas --> Cuadros line 156 \setupheadtext [\s!es] [\v!figuren=Ilustraci\'ons] ^^^ (liustraciones instead of Ilustraciones --> Figuras line 170 \setupheadtext [\s!es] [\v!intermezzos=intermedios] I don't know what is the propuouse of "intermezzos." Can you explain for what are used? It seems a acroead bug: i have tried with 5.0.6 as exspected i see return 1; while 5.0.8 on my notebook shows "return 0" but not the "return 1" a very strange bug. i will try xpdf today an see what will happen :) thx to all, walter

pdf output problem

Hi list, i found some strange effect with the Chart environment. This is part of a larger flowchart. \startFLOWcell \location {1,6} \name {end-auftrag} \shape {5} \text {DB freigeben ;\\ return 1;\\} \stopFLOWcell $ texexec --output=test --pdf modem.tex The resulting pdf file is missing the 1 from \text {DB freigeben ;\\ return 1;} changing 1 into 0 shows a 0. if i produce a dvi instead it works fine. any ideas ? walter ps: dvi has its own problem by writing the text and then filling the area :)

Recommendation for creating, XHTML and PDF versions of single document

Hi, I have been very happy to use ConTeXt and LaTeX to create documents for printed media or onscreen PDF. Currently I am working with some documents that I want to publish in XHTML and PDF (print and screen). What would be the best way to achieve this? - Write in ConTeXt and convert it to XHTML - Write in some XML format like docbook and convert that to XHTML and PDF? I am leaning toward authoring in XML as it is the most flexible, but it is also very verbose and probably requires much more effort in the toolchain to create the output format's I want. Please let me know your experiences and recommendations. Best Regards, Frank

Absolute positioning

Hello, I didn't find a way to put text at specific locations on the page. It must be something obvious! :-) I try to design a screen document where every notes are, say, typeset on the lower half of the page and appear only when clicking on their number in the text (with layers I think). Thnaks in advance, Gilles. PS for Hans: I didn't forget the note problem we've discussed in Mâcon. I'll build a test file.

Hi patrick, just to explain WHY i got confused. I was looking at knuth.tex as a simple example. An *this* example contains no \startX or \stopX . So i got the impression that contex may not need them. And when you see the examples in "typesetting flow charts" no hint either. It would enought to add \starttext \FLOWchart[grid] \stoptext on page 2. The information concerned is placed on more than one line, but afterwards the info in the temp-file will have a single line only. So I loose all my new-line commands. Then i tried the first example from "typsetting flow charts". \setupFLOWcharts[...] \startFLOWchart[grid] \stopFLOWchart What is the mentioned "testmode" ? where i can see grid ? the second example is the definition of a cell but i am unable to create any output because: no legal \end found but where ? the examples contain no end (in the sense \begin{} \end{} ) Can i download the examples somewhere ? regards, walter

Hi out there, I'am not sure if this is a ConTeXt problem (I doubt it slightly) but I am a bit confused: How can I activate german hyphenation patterns? I have used \mainlanguage[de] in my document and it was OK some time ago. Meanwhile I have updated ConTeXt and my TeX (current texlive). Where should I start to check? The output of my context run is: [...] language : language en is active [...] bodyfont : 12pt rm is loaded language : patterns 2:2-en-2 loaded specials : fdf,tpd loaded Patrick -- You are your own rainbow!

Hi all! I'm working with huge XML documents which are compiled to PDF (with ConTeXt) and converted to HTML (with XSLT and others). These XML documents contain references to external files (images). References are mapped to paths with XML code; i.e. <imgref id="cow" src="./images/cow.png"/>. Translating such a map to ConTeXt is rather obvious. But how to implement simmilar mechanism for external XML documents? In example I would like to use command \useexternaldocument[intro][introduction.xml] and than process 'introduction.xml' on the base of is ID reference ('intro'). Is it possible? Does ConTeXt suport referencing documents as well as figures? Regards, Pawe/l

The latest version assumes the most recent pdftex, i'll fix this; if you run into troubles, add this to cont-new.tex: \ifx\pdfoptionpdfinclusionerrorlevel\undefined \newcount\pdfoptionpdfinclusionerrorlevel \fi \pdfoptionpdfinclusionerrorlevel=0 \ifx\pdfoptionpdfminorversion\undefined \newcount\pdfoptionpdfminorversion \fi \pdfoptionpdfminorversion=4 Or patch this in spec-tpd.tex (there is an \else in that file that shoul dnot be there) The mentioned v!synchroniseer problem has to do with a new cont-new.tex being used with an old context; texexec --make --alone may help here. Colors changing when applying "transparent"

Hi, I would like to use transparnt colors in one of the documents. However the resulting color is different with transparent color. Ahoj, On November 11 I asked the list how I could generate bold greek math symbols (I have the lucida family installed). Until now I didn't get a response, so maybe I should be more specific. Let me put it this way: On page 12 of the `Fonts in ConTeXt' manual I find the footnote: `Bold math is already prepared in the core modules, so normally one can do with less code.' Can anybody tell me what code I have to add and where? I would like to get the following line $\theta = {\bfmath \alpha' x}$ with \theta in normal math and \alpha and x in math boldface? Examples for letters, articles, books?

Please forgive me if this is a FAQ, but since I just subscribed and the archives aren't searchable, I thought I'd ask. I've been a casual LaTeX user for a couple of years, and now I'd like to give ConTeXt a try. The one thing I'm missing in the docs is a set of examples for common documents, such as letters, articles, books and so on. Could anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanks, -Ralph.

Problems with table and Division Line

\combinepages with negative distance

Hi, I have a A5 document (as PDF file) which should be nx=2,ny=1 placed on a landscape A4 paper. The problem is that I want to have more whitespace on the left side for stapleing/punching which can easiest be done by letting the included pages overlap. I tried distance=-4cm but it didn't work as expected. Desired result: +---+-------------+------------+ | | first a5 . | second a5 | | | . | | | | . | | | | . | | +---+-------------+------------+ | ^^^ - included pages overlap | extra wide margin I tried: \setuppapersize[a5,landscape][a4,landscape] \combinepages[main.pdf][nx=2,ny=1,frame=on,distance=-4cm] Tobias

I agree, that XHTML might be too complex, but with some pre-print tidy up complexity can be reduced very well. Unfortunately I've no idea yet what to do with all that scripting stuff in pages. Installing Garamond

I tried to install my newly purchased Adobe AGaramond following the example in Bill McCLain's _Beginner's Guide_. I keep getting warning messages like: Warning: pdfetex (file texnansi-raw-LT50567): Font texnansi-raw-LT50567 at 600 not found Warning: pdfetex (file texnansi-raw-LT50566): Font texnansi-raw-LT50566 at 600 not found </u/usr/TeX/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmr6.pfb> Warning: pdfetex (file texnansi-raw-gdsc): Font texnansi-raw-gdsc at 600 not found the only change I made ot the fonts was to change the suffixes from AFM to afm and PFB to pfb (I run LInux.) then I ran texfont with the following statement: texfont.pl \ --fontroot=/u/usr/TeX/texmf-local \ --sourcepath=/tmp/fonts \ --vendor=adobe \ --collection=agaramond \ --makepath --install I put a reference to the generated map file in pdftex.cfg and linked that mapfile to the same directory as pdftex.map. Problems with superscripts and macros

Hello I am having some big problems with superscripts. When I type: -20$^\circ$C I get the expected 20 degrees Celcius (-20oC) However if I put the same sequence in a macro \def\celcius{$^\circ$C} -20\celsius\ Dewpoint -20\celsius Dewpoint I get as result: -20 oCDewpoint -20DoCewpoint Where o symbolizes the degree symbol. Patrick, Otared, Adam, thanks for looking into this. Adam's solutions works, wonderful!! Now I'll be able to have lots of "annoying texts" as watermarks. But those were a lot of changes to config files. Though I feel confident on the command line, I must admit I never bothered to look into minstall.pdf; I figured I had a working installation. Adam, you're definitely right: it would be nice if we could have gwtex's standards set to something more useful! Thanks everybody, another satisfied customer! Thomas

reset \use[sub]path

Hi all! Lets consider the following situation. There are 3 catalogs; ./lofo1, ./lofo2, ./lofo3, each of them contains files 'aqq.xml' and 'cow.png' for example. Filenames are the same, but they may have different content. I need to include all these files into one PDF document WITHOUT giving absolute paths in TeX code. I tried something like \usepath[lofo1] \processXMLfilegrouped{aqq.xml} \usepath[lofo2] \processXMLfilegrouped{aqq.xml} \usepath[lofo3] \processXMLfilegrouped{aqq.xml} but in this example the same file (./lofo1/aqq.xml) will be processed 3 times and that is not what I need. Actually the situation is even more complicated; I have quite big XML tree with hunderts of files and images, with dozens of catalogs. I wrote a perl script which change current directory for each process and run texexec in changed one. And it works OK since I want to have separate PDF document from each `lofo?' catalog. But how to make one PDF document in such situation using \use[sub]path texnique? In other words, how to reset settings from \usepath and \usesubpath commands? And how to do the same for externalfigures? Thanks in advance, Pawe/l

hide navigation menu in pdf presentations

Hello out there. I'd like to have a navigation menu in a presentation (Acrobat Reader). But I want to make it visible only when I move the mouse to the area of the menu. So something like "onMouseOver do showThisMenu". What approach should I take? Patrick -- You are your own rainbow!

How to nicely print XHTML to PDF

Hi everybody, would you please put this right, if I'm mistaken. Isn't ConTeXt capable to typeset XML? And isn't it really simple to make XHTML from HTML? So, is there any obstacle against using ConTeXt as customizable quality-typesetting backend for (readjusted/simplyfied) (X)HTML pages? What about power/complexity? How to style output? Indenting all lines in a paragraph, first line excluded

Hello, I'm busy writing a paper using ConTeXt that includes a bibliography. I'm designing the layout of this bibliography and I need a special paragraph style. I want the first line of the paragraph to appear normally, and the second and all consecutive lines to be indented. So basically you can also say that I want an 'inverted' paragraph; instead of an indented first line, I want all the other lines to be indented instead. Is there a simple way to achieve this? I've read the manual looking for clues but so far I haven't been successful. Any hints on where to look? My best, Tim

interaction with radio buttons

Dear all, using the example of radiobuttons in uptodate 1998-01, I fail to get the buttons interactive. When using the pdf doc with Acrobat Reader, the buttons are there but the cursor won't give me the finger when it hovers over them, nor does clicking have any effect. Is there anything I fail to observe? letter style

Hello, my name is Janko Hauser, I'm a new context user, after many years of LaTeX :-) I want to use context for two different projects. 1. Produce styled PDF documents from a web-content-managment-system. This will be web-page based but also complete sets of pages to generate longer documents. One conceptual idea is to have something like a clip-board of visited pages, which can be printed as one document. Ok, this Zope-based site will be an effort going into the next year. I mention it only for background for the coming questions in the next months. 2. I want to generate my invoice and business-letters with context. I searched the mailinglist but the only note I got was a reference to "the last MAPS" which should contain an article about this. Ah and Hans has mentioned that there is something in the making :-) Is there already something to look at? Does someone know a direct link to the mentioned MAPS-article? Thanks in advance, I'm really looking forward to using context. __Janko

bold math

Hi all, I would like to use bold greek math symbols (I have the lucida family installed). In the `Fonts in ConTeXt' manual I concluded from page 12 that this should be relatively simple. However all my attempts failed: either I got the normal math symbols or I got all (roman and greek) symbols bold, whereas I want to use them alternately. I tried the description on the pages 13 and 14, but I couldn't get it working. I simply inserted `,boldmath' in the lucida typescript in the file type-exa and it gave me all symbols bold. I must admit that I don't understand much of what is written in the `Fonts in ConTeXt' manual. Can anybody give me a solution of how to achieve this? BTW. Shouldn't this feature be a standard one in ConTeXt? Thanks Sytse

Easy lucida font use

All, There was an easy way shared to use the Lucida fonts without having to do any special font or map generation via texfont. Something involving Adobe KB or some such thing. Can someone remind me?
