Hi Hans, I get the impression that in math-lbr.tex the codes for blacktriangleleft and -right are interchanged. Having F0 where it should be F1 and vice versa. Imho it should be left = F0 and right = F1. Hans van der Meer

Two texexec.ini files?

I have noticed that the ConTeXt distribution contains both $TEXMF/context/config/texexec.rme and $TEXMF/scripts/context/perl/texexec.rme Are they both supposed to be used? What happens if they're not the same? Can \note repeat its footnote?

Hi Hans and others, there is a problem with arranging pages with transparency color. There was a problem processing a document(14). From a previous version of AR I obtained more informative message: Could not find extended graphic state name Tr1 Necessary conditions: 1) transparent color on at least one page 2) arranging pages on sheets 3) number of pages exceeds one sheet Observation: If do not use switch --arrange and compile the file two times the error does not occure. (But the result is not correct due to missing table of content etc.) It seems to me the problem is with managing transparen resources from sheet to sheet. Vit Zyka

textbackground

Hans, I definitely see problems with the \starttextbackground[]-\stoptextbackground environment (discussed in the "displays"-brochure). When the textbackground falls at a page crossing -- i.e. starts at the top of a page -- the coloring extends backwards on the page just left. It can be remedied by putting a \null just in front of \starttextbackground. The extra vertical space this introduces just manages to constrain the background to its own page. However, this is not a general solution, on other places the extra vertical space is certainly not wanted. I cannot find the exact nature of the problem. I suspect it has to do with the \output-routines, but these are not my speciality, to say the least. So, not much help there, Also, the \starttextbackground does not respect footnotes, these are colored. In contrast, the old \startbackground-\stopbackground does respect footnotes. The coloring stops at the footnote and restarts at the next page. I should like that for \starttextbackground as well. Hans van der Meer

I have the YandY MathTimes fonts and would like to use them in ConTeXt but do not know how to get them into action. In the source there are some references to MathTimes but nothing I try does something simple like for the lucida fonts: \setupbodyfont[lbr] Maybe I missed the magic invocation for \setupbodyfont[MathTimes-magic]? I always get these messages kpathsea: Running mktexfmt metafun.mem fmtutil: no info for format `metafun'. when doing texexec --pdf to my tex-beauties... it seems that he goes for metapost after that... is there anything wrong here? thanks ! jose

re: might be an error in ConTeXt file prop-mis.tex I had some difficulty with typesetting backgrounds. It seems there is an error in file prop-mis.tex (version 2004-06-21): token "\popsplitnegativeproperty" is never defined but "\popsplitoverprintproperty" is twice. I think the second one should be \popsplitnegativeproperty, because then the sequence \startbackground some text \stopbackground does typeset after regenerating the formats. Hope this helps. Installation problem

Hello, all-- I have just installed the latest (stable release of) ConTeXt on a "new" machine [details below], but texexec is not working properly. I keep getting the following error: sh: cont-en: command not found I have Googled for information on this problem, but the solution I found doesn't make sense to me. In response to a previous inquiry on this list, someone wrote: > but the absence of cont-en that is the > problem. Or if cont-en exists, it is not in your path or not > executable. But what exactly is this 'cont-en'? I have two machines with working ConTeXt systems, and neither of them has a command with exactly that name. So I imagine the reference is to a file named 'cont-en.<extension>'. But there is more than one such file, and none of them seems to be a type of file that would normally be made executable (nor are they executable on the machines where I have ConTeXt working). Any thoughts as to what's wrong? Oh, yes, my system is: Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 teTeX 1.0.2 * Note that teTeX comes with an old and not-properly-configured version of ConTeXt. I unzipped the new package over that ... could something left over from the old ConTeXt be causing the problem? Hi, I'm trying to do a scientific poster in latex and i've some problem. now i want to try it in context. I need two things 1) set a backgroud for the paper (A0 size) with gradient color 2) Deal with textblocks (like the textpos package of latex). This package makes a grid (dont printing it), for example 16x25 part (width and height). And then you can say \begin{textblock}{2}(0,3) .. \end{textbloc} This make a bloc 2 unit width in the (0,3) position. I'm quite new to context, and i don't know if it can be done. Hello, I try to build a macro, that prints special characters as \type and hyphenates as \hyphenatedfile. I can use now : and ;, but the characters ?, !, # and \ are still not working, and spaces are lost. Could someone help please? Two level declaration using "vardef".

Hello everybody, One small query (:-} In a two level definition like: def test(expr p)= __temp_call(p) enddef; def __temp_call(expr p)(text t)= ........ enddef; so as to allow definitions for macros like "draw". Now, I want to have a macro similar to "draw" but also I want to have a suffix attached to the macro name. so, I did something like: vardef test@#(expr p)= __temp_call@#(p) enddef; vardef __temp_call@#(expr p)(text t)= ........ enddef; But this will obviously not work. But then I also have to define the macro with "vardef" inorder to have "@#" suffix. Can someone please help me here? Thanks. PPCHTeX and (non)standard bond angles

Perhaps there is some other better place to post this question, but since "ConTeXt" has put quite some effort to be compatible with it and since I cannot subscribe to ntg-ppchtex: I've tried to draw some chemical formulas with PPCTeX and wasn't able to find any option, allowing to visualize sp2 hibridisation on ONE atoms (i.e. 120 degrees). It is possible to make some "approximation" (2,4,7 for example), but it looks far away from perfect - the angles should be EXACTLY 120 degrees in that case (the same goes for NEWMAN). (some other, but maybe more exotic problems include PH_3, NH_3 for example, not forgetting about water) H / P-H \ H - Does there exist anything that would make SB and other bonds in ONE extent to the center of atom (the centar atom needs not be specified if it is C atom); perhaps R? How may I draw '/\/\/' for heksane (with angle 109 degrees)? - How can I name only one atom in the ring? (with the other places being filled with lines) Thank you, Mojca Miklavec

pagination problem with \startitemize[columns]

I sent a response to an earlier thread about this, but I don't know if it got through (my mail was down later that day). Anyway, here's an example of something that gets messed up. Text following the itemize doesn't get paginated properly. Having a new chapter after it seems to fix it from there on, though. \starttext \chapter{One} \dorecurse{7}{\input zapf \par\relax} \startitemize[columns,four] \dorecurse{12}{\nop \type{[:alnum:]}} \stopitemize \dorecurse{7}{\input zapf \par\relax} \stoptext This fails for \startitemize[columns] as well. It seems that the problem arises when the itemize is pushed onto the second page. Remove the first \dorecurse{7}{\input ...} and it works fine... Hello everybody, Thanks for helping me solve the problem. It was wonderful seeing the metafun manual. One more query : In a two level definition like: def test(expr p)= __temp_call(p) enddef; def __temp_call(expr p)(text t)= ........ enddef; so as to allow definitions for macros like "draw". Now, I want to have a macro similar to "draw" but also I want to have a suffix attached to the macro name. so, I did something like: vardef test@#(expr p)= __temp_call@#(p) enddef; vardef __temp_call@#(expr p)(text t)= ........ enddef; But this will obviously not work. But then I also have to define the macro with "vardef" inorder to have "@#" suffix. Can someone please help me here? Thanks. Vinuth.M.Madinur. Hi, the en/nl/etc have to do with the interface language and there is no spanisch interface (yet) if you want to typeset spanish, you need spanish patterns and these are loaded by default, so texexec --make --alone will do for you. MPost: how to pass variables from mpost to TeX.

Hi everyone, My mpost doesnt have textext macro. So, what are the other ways of doing it? What I want to do is this : %I have a variable GbLableName GbLableName=B_2; %Now I want to use this variable like this: lable.bot( btex GbLableName etex , (0,0) ); But this will just display GbLableName instead of B_2. So can someone please tell how this can be done? I know too little about TeX. Someone suggested about using Textext macro. But my MPost version doesnt have it. So are there any other ways of doing it? Looking forward for it.. Hello Hans, I'm sorry, your patch of the May 17 works well for dvi, but not for pdf: the figure is again shifted down and to the left. Here an example: \setupoutput[pdftex] \starttext X\externalfigure[example][width=5cm]X \stoptext example.pdf is attached, also the resulting pdf. Concerning the issus with \useencoding[ffr] and FitBH: Do you think, you could solve the problems? If not, I'll go on trying to find solutions. I would like for an unindented paragraph to appear after an itemize, but I can't seem to get it to work. My guess was to set indentnext to no, but that doesn't work. pagination bug

Hans, The following minimum file does not paginate correctly. It overflows the second page. Removing the figure or the second level of itemization fixes the pagination. I have enclosed the text of the file and the file itself for ease of reproduction. I am using the latest stable version from i-installer. I actually think I have had this problem before but not tracked it down. Dear ConTeXtnicians, Normally \bTABLE...\eTABLE encourages itself to the textwidth of the page that it is on. I have a requirement for a table which is occupying a full page rotated. What command encourages TABLE to a different overall width. I cannot find anything in manuals and archives. TIA -- Nigel
