finding project files in parent dirs automatically

I'm learning how to use projects/products/components, and have got reasonably far. However, I'm confused about far upwards context searches for the configuration files (product/project/environment files). Here's a directory structure that worked fine: double/chap/1/c_ch1.tex double/prd_oom.tex double/project_books.tex double/env_books.tex It's called 'double' to signify that the components are two levels below the main project file. I cd to double/chap/1/ and then 'texexec c_ch1', and c_ch1.log tells me: systems : begin file c_ch1 at line 1 systems : begin file project_books at line 3 (../../project_books.tex systems : begin file env_books at line 3 (../../env_books.tex) systems : end file env_books at line 3 ) systems : end file project_books at line 3 So the project and environment files got read in. By the way, why isn't the product file loaded? Is it not needed when making just one component? But it could modify the environment. Leaving that question aside, here is the chap/1/c_ch1.tex file (all the .tex files and the log files are in the small attached .tgz archive): \startcomponent c_ch1 \product prd_oom \project project_books \title{chapter 1} \input tufte \par \stopcomponent The prd_oom.tex: \startproduct prd_oom \project project_books \component chap/1/c_ch1 \stopproduct And project_books.tex: % output=pdf interface=en \startproject project_books \environment env_books \product prd_oom \stopproject So the "\project project_books" in c_ch1.tex is sufficient for context to find ../../project_books.tex But I really want each product to live in its own directory. In this minimal example, the only product is 'oom', for "Order of Magnitude physics". So I tried this directory structure: triple/oom/chap/1/c_ch1.tex triple/oom/chap/1/c_ch1.log triple/oom/prd_oom.tex triple/project_books.tex triple/env_books.tex Now the project_books.tex file is three levels up from the component, and project_books.tex has "\product oom/prd_oom" instead of "\product prd_oom". Table Esthetics (and XML)

Hello, I'm a big fan of the LaTeX booktabs package - I find tables created using it with it's 'toprule', 'bottomrule' and clippable 'cmidrule' commands the most satisfying solution I have come across (see attachments, especially 'table1.jpg'). After consulting the archives of this list, it seems clear, that ConTeXt does not yet have any package of that sophistication, but I'm dead set on writing my thesis in XML and have ConTeXt read it ... therefore I'd like to soclicit your preferences and ideas on how to pleasingly format tables - how do you do it? How to manipulate interlinespace in doubly spaced document?

Hi, My university requires doubly spaced Theses (brrrr ... but hey - it get's a lot thicker ;0), so the preamble has: \setupinterlinespace[line=2\bodyfontsize] I'd like to typeset tables, figure/table captions and footnotes with normal spacing and have experimented with things like \setupcaptions[style=small,width=\textwidth,setuplinespace[small]] and \defineXMLnested [table] { \bgroup \defineXMLsave[caption] \defineXMLsave[content] } { \placetable [\XMLpar{table}{location}{here}] [\XMLpar{table}{label}{unknown}] {\XMLflush{caption}} {\ix\setupinterlinespace[reset,small] \expanded{\bTABLE\XMLflush{content}}\eTABLE \x} \egroup } But can get neither to work. Column cell number in natural tables

Hello, Is it possible to explicitely set the column of the cell defined by a \bTD ... \eTD? I mean that, within a row, it is the number of previous defined cells that determine the current column cell position. What I would like is to be able to omit intermediate empty cells by explicitely setting the column of the defined cell. I thought that maybe the option "n" could do that, but it does not work as I expected. Here is an example of a table I'd like to be able to write (of course the "n" option can be replaced by anything else): \bTABLE \bTR\bTD[n=3] a3 \eTD\bTD[n=6] a6 \eTD\eTR \bTR\bTD b1 \eTD\bTD b2 \eTD\bTD b3 \eTD\bTD b4 \eTD\eTR \bTR\bTD c1 \eTD\bTD c2 \eTD\bTD c3 \eTD\bTD c4 \eTD\eTR \bTR\bTD d1 \eTD\bTD[n=5] d5 \eTD\bTD[n=7] d7 \eTD\eTR \bTR\bTD e1 \eTD\bTD[n=3] e3 \eTD\eTR \eTABLE On benefit of this feature is that it would make the CALS table model (http://www.oasis-open.org/specs/a502.htm) mapping to context quite easier, especially when the table contains row or column spanning. How does one use the old texexec in the standalone windows version? I tried with texmfstart texexec.pl and that looks like the old texexec output but the resulting pdf is equally defective. Variable Caption Locations

I need to have captions ABOVE tables but below all other float types. The default is below, and I know I can do something like { setupcaptions[location=top] \placetable... } for each table. \bTABLE[split=repeat] and doubling of horizontal lines

The snippet below makes a table with horizontal gaps between cells that shows up as doubling of lines (and gaps in the vertical lines). It only happens if fontsize is 6pt or less and split=repeat. I realize the bodyfontsize is rather small but I have a document where I want it. Antykwa Poltawskiego is remarkably readable even at that size. about the default bullets of itemized lists

Dear all, It is not a big problem, but I don't know why this curious thing happened. A few days ago, I updated ConTeXt and made a format file for XeConTeXt. I run a file which was compiled well before and got a strange results: at this time. all the bullets of the itemized lists are gone(no bullets). After I changed the first \startitemize to \startitemize[1] only, then all the itemized lists in the whole text had a bullet again. If I changed [1] to [2] and [3], it disappeared again(including bullets for \head). Is this normal? or are there something wrong in my setup or in my document? Thank you for reading. Dalyoung

I just upgraded following the instructions on the wiki, and wanted to check that it went well and that the newer ones were being found -- always a nightmare subject in *TeX* with paths configurable by a combination of environment variables, config files, and config files chosen by other env variables. So: $ texexec --version TeXExec 5.4.3 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 texexec : TeXExec 5.4.3 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 texutil : TeXUtil 9.0.1 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1992-2006 tex : pdfeTeX, 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) context : ver: 2006.03.25 13:21 cont-en : ver: 2005.01.31 fmt: 2006.3.28 mes: english Here is the version line in the output of 'texexec somerandomfile.tex': ConTeXt ver: 2006.03.25 13:21 fmt: 2006.4.6 int: english mes: english The context version date match what texexec --version produces (though texexec doesn't give the fmt date). Installation problem

I've downloaded the current ConTeXt version and generated the format files. Different pagebreaks for component and whole document

Hi, I have run into a strange kind of a problem and I am not sure on how to debug to figure out what is going wrong. Maybe someone with more experience with context can help me here. I have the following document structure project: main.tex environment:env_main.tex products: assignments.tex handouts.tex project: assignments.tex components:assignment-01.tex assignment-02.tex and so on project: handouts.tex component: handout-01.tex handout-02.tex and so on. Each component starts with \title which does a page break. There are no local setups in any component. I expected that each component will be typed out in the same manner, whether I compile the a component, a product or the entire project. It turns out this is not the case. The first page of handout-01.tex is different when I compile the project (main.tex). The pagebreak is set at a different place and I get ugly page break at the end. If I compile handouts.tex or handout-01.tex, the page breaks are same and there is no ugly pagebreak at the end. Is it possible that such a behaviour is due to the length of the document. main.pdf is 105 pages long, while handout-01.pdf is 4 pages and handouts.pdf is 14 pages. It seems that due to the large length of main.pdf, context is not trying hard enough to get good page break. Even a manual \page[disable] does not prevent the ugly pagebreak for main.tex. placefigure: mysterious whitespace with 'rightmargin' figures

I tested the following on the context live. Both figures are in the margin, but the first and second paragraphs have a large gap between them with figure 1 in the margin, beside the gap. My first theory was that the margin figure requires the whitespace (unlikely, I know). Hi Hans and Vit, I've attached pdf and tex made with "texexec 8bit.tex" using the last beta (with cp1250 regime). The version chapterB is what I am using now, chapterA version is straightforward but not functional. >From this my ideas from last mail came -- when I am expanding \XMLflush exactly and controlled, result is OK (the expansion stops before active characters start to expand. IMHO, the solution on character level is something different (although it works :-); yes, I did not study Vit's problems from year before. I never had a problems with simple TeX (\chapter{čřžý}), only with XML :-), so for me it would be sufficient solve XML level. Of course, if it is stuff of other level, it cannot be solved in XML. Extending the black circled numbers

Hello, For those who know, I'm trying to have the DocBook callout mechanism with context. Basically, there are some numbers in lines of verbatim text, and below the verbatim text the numbers are used to explain the portion of the text (kind of footnote). Typically the numbers are rendered white in black circle. I could use the Dingbats numbers, but it is limited to 10, so that I emulated them with the following code to be able to go up to 99. The questions I have: - Is it the right way to do it in context (do I really need metafont? Simpler, smarter method?) - What should I do to make them as anchors, so that it can be cross-referenced (I mean, one can click on a hot spot that jump to the number in the verbatim text). Cite module: APA citation proposals

Hello, I'm using Tacos cite module with the default APA style. I'm a biochemist and the majority of my cited sources derives from www.pubmed.org, which I import into BibTeX via pybliographic. I have some slight problems with the formating as provided by the database and was wondering whether it's possible to fix them ... 1) Titles from PubMed always end with a '.'. Since the cite module (at least the version with Tetex in Debian unstable) does not check for the presence of a '.', but just appends one, I end up with 2 '.'s after the title when using a unmanipulated *.bib file. Would it be possible to include a check for that into the module? 2) Pybliographic also delivers the article language in a 'language' field and not in the 'lang' field the cite module expects, which terminates compilation with an unmanipulated *.bib file. Hi all, I have problem with chars encoding now; I have updated ConTeXt sometimes in January; before the time I was using old (year) version. In this prehistorical version the problem was not present. What is the stuff? The following code generates content with titles without spaces -- accented characters are replaced with \char XXX variant, so during reading TUI line TeX gobbles a space after XXX as a part of <number> syntax rule. Can I do something? With encoding? With XML? Hello Hans, this is the message I got after running texexec pro_mcc_a3.tex. As you can see I have increased the memory size for mp. I have attached the two tex-files. Maybe there is a mistake in the mp-code. A pdf-file will be produced, but if you check the output you will see, that one cubicle is missing! Thanks for your help! Absolute positioning of grafics in ConTeXt

Hi all, I'm quite new to ConTeXt, but I've been working with LaTeX for several years now. Now I faced a problem which I'm not able to solve in LaTeX which probably can be solved in ConTeXt: I need a possibility to set grafics in a book on exact, absolute positions. Now I found the way for background images, like in the attached example. But obviously, normal text is written above the background image. I need now a possibility like this but for foreground grafics. So, how can I set the position of grafics absolutely in ConTeXt? Thanks, Johannes. XML element strip?

Hello, I have a strange question. While working with XML and ConTeXt, I have run into the TeXnic problem of the interpretation of line breaks. What I would prefer to do for code clarity sake are things like the following: <list> <item> Something </item> <item> else </item> </list> This is however screwed up by TeXs line break interpretation, forcing me to format the input like so: <list> <item>Something</item> <item>else</item> </list> The question now is: is there any way to tell context to strip trailing whitespaces/line breaks from XML nodes? Hello again, I have a matching rule for cite commands that look as follows: <cite id="hunt:86" opt="authoryear"/> The rule is this (kudoos to Taco): \defineXMLargument [cite] {\expanded{\cite[\XMLpar{cite}{opt}{}][\XMLpar{cite}{id}{}]}} Sometimes I would like to have the '(Hunt et. al., 1986)' produced by above combination to look like '(see e.g. Hunt et. al., 1986)'. Taco pointed out in response to a question to list that I could do that by handing a 'left={(see e.g. }' to the cite command, however I fail to be able to do that. A XML node like this <cite id="hunt:86" opt="authoryear,left={(see e.g.}"/> results on compilation with above rule in the following error: ! Hi, I am using Miktex (latest updated version) and the latest Context on WindowsXP (write18 enabled). This is what happens : 1) First run of texexec gives me ! Undefined control sequence l 1 \global \loadfontfileoncetrue 2) Second texexec run compiles fine, and the Metapost code is processed and included in the resulting PDF document 3) Third run of texexec same error as in 1) Looking at i.e *mptrace.tmp* file it says mpgraph:=1; randomseed:=1559; _special_div_ := 1000; if unknown context_tool: input mp-tool; fi; if unknown context_spec: input mp-spec; fi; if unknown context_grph: input mp-grph; fi; graphictextformat:="context"; *graphictextdirective "\global \loadfontfileoncetrue ";* string contextversion; contextversion:="2006.03.25 13:21"; if not known _data_prefix_: string _data_prefix_,_data_suffix_; fi; ..... I have a document in Swedish with an index. Merely setting mainlanguage[sv] does not give correct sort order. I remember doing something like \startlanguagespecifics[sv] \definesortkey[å][z][a][å] \definesortkey[ä][z][b][ä] \definesortkey[ö][z][c][ö] \stoplanguagespecifics but this no longer has any effect and gives TeXUtil | unknown entry k in line k {sv}{ec}{å}{z}{a}{å} TeXUtil | unknown entry k in line k {sv}{ec}{ä}{z}{b}{ö} TeXUtil | unknown entry k in line k {sv}{ec}{ö}{z}{c}{ö} from newtexexec (this is on a current windows standalone context) What is the correct code? Metafun - Metapost capacity exceeded

Hello, I'm doing my first work with metafun to generate a switchgear layout from a cvs file. During the run (texexec ) I get the message - Metapost capacity exceeded and a part of the drawing is missing. I followed the thread -TeX capacity exceeded with metafun- and increased the memory size in texmf.cnf but this is not the solution! Any suggestion what's going wrong? btw. it is allowed to send the tex file to the list? Thanks Thomas

Ik was in contcat met Oscar, t.a.v. partners ... De militaire kazerne ligt op ca 5 km afstand van de plaats waar de veer aanmeert. Die plaats is geen echt dorp. Het zou dus nodig zijn, dat men een fiets ter beschikking heeft. dat is meeneemt of in het eerste dorp huurt. t.a.v. aanmeldingen ik heb de aanmelding van Taco en Roland Kwee binnen verder is het stil. t.a.v. programma op de website zetten. Erik heeft niet gereageerd op mijn mail van 31-03 j.l. Zal die evt met vakantie zijn? Wie kunnen anders dit laten doen? Groet Willi

I would be grateful if someone could nudge me into the right direction ... Is it even possible to have XML nodes in the variables evaluated ("")?
