Combinations

Hello everyone, I have 14 graphs that I want to arrange in a single page. I've found the best wat to do that is with a 3 by 5 combination. Yet, it would look better if I had a 3 by 4 combination and a 2 by 1 centered underneath the preveious. Is there some simple way to do that? Also, a while ago I asked about the font size of the captions in the combinations, which wasn't being respected in Math mode. I've tried in the latest beta and the problem persists. Any ideas? new (working) LilyPond module

I just uploaded a new version of the LilyPond module into the garden: http://modules.contextgarden.net/t-lilypond Docs: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/LilyPond It should work with GNU LilyPond from version 2.8 (tested with latest 2.9) and got some new features: - change the fonts (e.g. for lyrics and chords) - switch clef and bar numbers on/off - use LilyPond settings with boolean values (##t, ##f) A very big THANK YOU to Christopher Creutzig who not only wrote the old edition, but also wrote all the new TeX code that I don't understand ;-) (Christopher, the uploaded version has less bugs than the one I sent to you earlier - forgot to test the settings...) BEWARE! LilyPond typesetting works only with the old Perl texexec; texmfstart texexec fails in 3 points: - the LilyPond snippet (buffer) counter stays at 1 - texexec doesn't reckognize that it should do another TeX run to place the "pictures" - the module documentation lacks the title page I guess this is a bug or two... Default settings of headers inhibit a break immediately afterwards but it is very easy to stop this working by either changing the set-up of the header, or putting something immediately after it which overrides the \nobreak. bug?: interaction between columns and background

Hello, When I place a graphic in the bacground and switch columns on, the background gets shifted for some reason. I hope that the problem will be evident from this example (since it behaves in a pretty random way - sometimes it's OK and sometimes it's pretty much shifted to the left). My first question: How can it be that context sets a new page immediately after a (subsubsection-)header? Is it necessary to inhibit it after every header explicitely? \showlayout doesn't (2006.10.04 beta)

This test file doesn't produce the frames around the margins (2006.10.04 beta): \starttext \showlayout \input tufte \stoptext I can't test it on the live context (the missing cont-new.mkii) to make sure it's not something silly on my part. \sometxt bodyfontsize in staticMPfigure (2006.09.27 beta)

[I'm testing the 2006.09.27 beta on Linux] Thanks for the new \sometxt in staticMPfigures. I'm just testing its operation, and find that the text is not set in the document's bodyfont size. For example, \setupbodyfont[20pt] \starttext \startstaticMPfigure{fig} label(\sometxt{in sometxt},origin); \stopstaticMPfigure outside sometxt \usestaticMPfigure[fig] \stoptext produces a small "in sometxt" and a large "outside sometxt". With this file both are large, as I expected \sometxt to work: \setupbodyfont[20pt] \starttext \startreusableMPgraphic{fig} label(\sometxt{in sometxt},origin); \stopreusableMPgraphic{ outside sometxt \reuseMPgraphic{fig} \stoptext I haven't figured out the full story. How to use the wiki?

Hello, Sorry for that stupid question, but what it the process to add something to the wiki? I can edit existing page, but in which topic or page one can add something? Is an account required? While I can't cope with counters, I'm trying other stuff that I don't understand: How must I use \doifdefined & friends? Consider this snippet: ----- \starttext \def\myvar{JAJAJA} \input tufte \doifdefined{\myvar}{\par bla \myvar blub\par} \input tufte \stoptext ----- I'd guess it would print "bla JAJAJAblub" between the two Tufte texts and don't if I comment \def\myvar. But I guess wrongly: It does nothing in this case, and complains about undefined \myvar in the latter. [HELP] colored text marked by a caption and across multipages

After searching this mailing list, I found some methods: \bTABLE, \starttextbackground ..etc... But none of them can achieve this facility. I can accomplish this facility though LaTeX as described in page 2 ~ page 3 in the attached file. (It uses listings package in LaTeX) All I want is a colored source codes marked by a caption, and I can refe to that source code using \in{}[] or \at{}[] primitives. Are there any ways in ConTeXt can achieve this? setupformulas: make indentnext=auto the default?

The default for setupformulas is indentnext=no, at least from a couple experiments and this line in core-mat.tex (in version 2006.08.08): \c!indentnext=\v!no, What's the view on changing it to indentnext=auto, which seems intuitive at least if one is used to TeX or LaTeX? LilyPond module for LilyPond 2.9.x

Yeah, I finally got it working with recent versions of LilyPond! (The most important change was from "linewidth" to "line-width", and I overlooked that far too long...) The module still has lots of issues (e.g. paths for external command like lilypond are hardcoded), but it does what I want it to do. ;-) Could someone please exchange the module in the garden? textbackground inside framed

Hi, I need a textbackground inside a \framed macro, which uses it's own background (overlay). Sadly the textbackground appears behind the framed background and my attempts to change this order haven't succeeded. \setuptextbackground[foo] [level=+1] brings the textbackground to the top, but overwrites the text. Also I haven't found a way to change the background level for \framed (e.g. set it to -2), which would easily solve the problem. Is there a way to make it appear above the framed background, but still below the text? Register layout

Quick question - how do I alter the width of the hanging indent of a register entry which is too long to fit on one line? I want to differentiate sub-entries, which each have an indent of 1em more than the previous level, from the indentation of longer entries, which by default is also set to 1em. In other words, for two entries: "a short entry" "a sub-entry" "quite a long-winded single entry" I would like the layout (please view with fixed width font): a short entry a sub-entry quite a long-winded single entry I tried putting \hangafter=1\hangindent=3em into the deeptextcommand of \setupregister but no change. How to make copyable Chinese documents ?

Hi, My friends can use LaTeX+CJK or LaTeX+CCT to generate Chinese documents the Chinese characters in which can be selected and copied. The procedure is using LaTeX to convert .tex file to .dvi, then using gs to convert .dvi to .pdf. I can use ConTeXt to generate .pdf file directly from .tex. and the Chinese characters can be selected, but when I try to paste it to another text editor, it looks like this "üèÃËÂæúïÅ«§ÍÔ". I am using chinese module in ConTeXt version before 2005.12.19. Will the new version of ConTeXt fix this. Positioning tag adding space before a chapter

I am using \StartPos and \StopPos to determine where text is positioned in the output document. This works very well except that when it is placed before the first chapter in the bodymatter it adds a blank page. All of the other chapters are fine. Is there some way for me to make this not happen? I don't understand everything inthe StartPos def. But if I remove the \StartPos from before the first chapter the blank page is not there, but I need that positioning information. I will be greatful for any help. Problem with ConTeXt installation

I'm having problems starting ConTeXt with texexec on my Gentoo system. I've installed ConTeXt using the MikTeX Package Manager: "for p in `mpm --list|grep context | tr -s [:space:] | cut -d ' ' -f 4`; do mpm --install=$p; done" followed by a "texhash" and an "updmap" for good measure, and I've upgraded to the latest tetex-3.0_p1-r3 in Gentoo's portage. I've also followed the guide: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Linux_Installation#Updating_Gentoo_Linux and modified /etc/texmf/fmtutil.d/00fmtutil.cnf by adding a '*' where indicated in the above referenced wiki. followed by texmf-update. bfrange block CMap error in pdf file

This file produces just a boldface 'a' via metafun: ============= bf.tex ============== \setuppagenumbering[location=] \starttext \startreusableMPgraphic{fig} label (\sometxt{\bf a}, (0,0)); \stopreusableMPgraphic \reuseMPgraphic{fig} \stoptext ============= bf.tex ============== 'xpdf bf.pdf' produces tons of this error: Error: Illegal entry in bfrange block in ToUnicode CMap The log file had complaints from pdfetex about not finding fonts: Warning: pdfetex (file /home/sanjoy/texmf/fonts/map/dvipdfm/context/original-public-lm.map): invalid entry for `cmex9': font file missing which I eventually fixed by getting it to use the pdftex map files instead of the dvipdfm map files. Though I don't understand fully why I could fix it (but that's for another msg). Even with the map files being found, the bfrange block error remained. The test file worked fine on the context live, so I diffed its pdf file with the one generated here, after uncompressing both (using pdftk: "pdftk bf.pdf output bb.pdf uncompress"). Now that \sometxt works with static figures (thanks!), I'm converting from using btex..etex to using \sometxt, to avoid MPenvironments (instead put it in the general .tex environment). But I ran into an error with macro arguments and static figures. Let me know if it's not worth fixing in view of the Mk IV cleanup, and I'll switch to reusable figures (and eventually Linux will support dual core CPUs + suspend to ram, and then I won't notice the processing time much). Here's a snippet from btex-mpgraph-temp.tex: \starttext \startMPXpage " mpgraph:=1; randomseed:=33; _special_div_ := 10000; The underscores in the variable name are upsetting to tex. I haven't tracked down the chain of influence that put them there. Hi all, Is it possible to run a ruby script from a context document during its processing (I already know how to do that using \write18 but there is maybe a better way...) then get the output of the script to display or use it into the document. 3D Artwork with ConTeXt

Hi all, I'm now playing with u3d and since I'm at rookie level in ConTeXt dev, I have (a lot?) of questions for you. First, download http://www.nibua-r.org/ConTeXt/devel/3dartwork.tgz and "texexec test-3dartwork". Since I use \externalfigure and u3d mean nothing to ConTeXt, I obtain TeXUtil | running texmfstart rlxtools --identify ./context.u3d identify: no decode delegate for this image format `./context.u3d'. RlxTools | unable to identify ./context.u3d Ok, this is normal... I used \placefigure and \externalfigure for convenience for the moment since I found natural to use them... How to bypass RlxTools ? Now, see t-3dartwork. There is a lot of work. The main idea is to split \doPDFinsertiiidartwork into several macros ;) . I need help on: 1. What's the best way to define the following macro \defineiiidartworkprojection[name][type=perspective|orthographic , nf=automatic|explicit , near=number, far=number, fov=number.....] You're welcome to give your opinion on naming convention ;) 2. Same question for \defineiiidartworkview[name][bgr=number, bgg=number, bgb=number (or 3 floats for bgcol), projection=name, camera= 3 floats (but how?), target= idem, up=idem] I'll use ruby and a magic | (see [NTG-context] run a ruby script and use the standard output ???) to calculate C2W and CO... 3. ... transparent metafun colors turn nearly black

Just for (meta)fun, I tried a few experiments with transparent colors. The example below gives a black circle instead of a red one. Layer Question

Hello, I would like to add a text to a poster, which I load as PDF. The following works nice, except that the layer of the PDF is above the layer "block" thus the text gets overdrawn. How can I change that order? But I have not understand the whole figurenumber thing. It is obviously (my example shows this), that there must be a hidden number. What is its name? How can this number be influenzed? Imorting multiple page pdf.

Some of my friends over on the Scribus list are struggling with pamphlet layout and so on. It occured to me that if a multiple page pdf created by Scribus were inserted into a Context file then the Context prepress manipulation could be used to set it up. Here is an edited fragment of an actual Context file I use every other month: ------------------------------------------ \setupoutput[pdftex] %% \setuplayout[textwidth=4.25in, location=middle, footer=10pt, header=0pt, backspace=.75in, textheight=8in], \startmode[hal] \definepapersize[halff][width=5.5in,height=8.5in] \definepapersize[ful][width=8.5in,height=11in] \setuppapersize[halff][ful] \setuparranging[2UP,rotated,doublesided] \stopmode %% %% -------------------------------------------------- Now is there a way to bring in properly sized pdf pages after this point and have them rearranged by Context? counter for MPtoPDF calls [feature request]

Hi Hans, I tested the beta from yesterday and I liked the incremented number behind the MPtoPDF calls (in older versions this was always [1]). I'm currently optimizing some of my graphics for trailtypesetting and the incremented counter was really informative. [..] [MP to PDF] (./testbed-mpgraph.1)This is MetaPost, Version 0.901 (Web2c 7.5.3) (testbed-mpgraph.mp (r:\mp-test.mp) [37] ^^^^ [..] In the current beta this number is completely missing. What was this number for and is it possible to attach the current number of MPtoPDF calls? Greetings, Peter
