Dear Helin, I followed Taco's solution. http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/ 20070130.082837.4bc51f61.en.html In brief, 1. make a folder /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.texlive/fonts/map/pdftex/context/ 2. copy all files in the folder /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.texlive/fonts/map/dvips/lm/ to the folder /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.texlive/fonts/map/pdftex/context/ 3. check the following(locate the lm-math.map file): kpsewhich lm-math.map if the output is /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.texlive/fonts/map/pdftex/ context/lm-math.map, then, do ctxtools --dpx --force /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.texlive Then new files will be in /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.texlive/fonts/map/dvipdfm/context/ 4. you may need a permission for su. Hi, I tried ConTeXt for the first time a couple of days ago and successfully created a 4 page letter. Yesterday I converted a 60 page booklet from LaTeX to ConTeXt where is now successfully compiles (but without lots of formatting that I will need to figure out how to apply). My problem has to do with using a font other than the default (CM I guess). Commands such as the following have no apparent effect: \setupbodyfont[palatino] \setupbodyfont[lbr] Do I need to select some interface to the fonts like I do in LaTeX when I say \usepackage{lucidabr} or do I need to do some something with TeXfont even though these fonts are already available to MiKTeX for my use with LaTeX? I tried to follow the instructions at http://wiki.contextgarden.net for making sure MiKTeX knows about ConTeXt. [My MiKTeX came with the ProTeXt distribution, has been updated to the latest MiKTeX I believe, and MiKTeX's formats have been updated and its file name database refreshed.] I have a reasonably large pile of documentation I have printed out from www.pragma-ade.com. TABLE width question

Hi, looking through enattab and this list's archive I saw that we have … \bTABLE[option=stretch] … to make a table wide as textwidth, and … \setupTABLE[column][1][width=.5\hsize] … to make the first column half of textwidth. Now, I want to have the *entire* table scaled .75 of textwidth (set the columns width automatically). Is there also an option / a command for this? Steffen

e-mail - link in pdf not correct with dot in e-mail adress

Hallo group, an e-mail adress typeset with Context produces a clickable link in the resulting pdf file. Whenever I typeset an e-mail-adress of the form xxx.yyy(a)host.com, then the resulting link in the pdf-file just directs to the (non-existing) adress yyy(a)host.com. I tried to put brackets {} around the adress, to use \useURL or to put \setupinteraction[state=stop] to prohibit a wrong link but it did not work. (I'm using ConTeXt - 2006.10.24 13:47 and pdfeTeX-1.30.4) Is this a problem of setting the right command or using the right version? What should I do either to produce a correct or no link at all? Dear all, I'm a newbie, just recently try to use context. As I read the wiki, I think that Context is great to typeset documents. Now I'm trying to make a document with some maths in it and I also need bold math symbols. I try the steps written in MyWay Magazine: Normal and Bold Math Combination by Hans Hagen and I find that bold math in inline equation is bold upright but in formula it is bold italics. Furthermore, I can't type a bold greek symbol in an inline equation. A file test is below. I also tried in Contextlive and got the same result. I use the 23.01.2007 context version. For bibliography, I don't have any idea how to cite a bibliography item in the list of publications. I found the wiki is not clear enough for real newbie like me. Hi, I wand to write a macro, that handles both [] and {} as optional arguments. Footnotes lost in Natural Tables

Hi, once again I ran into a dead-end where I never dreamt it could be a problem: using footnotes in tables. For my current project I have to use 16 tables, spread over the whole text (about 400 pages). Some of these tables also need footnotes (sometimes quite large). But they should be numbered and placed within the regular footnotes at the end of the page. Trying the minimal below I saw the table's footnotes got lost: \starttext First paragraph\footnote{One}. \bTABLE \bTR \bTD Cell\footnote{Two} \eTD \bTD Cell\footnote{Three} \eTD \eTR \eTABLE Next paragraph\footnote{Four}. \stoptext As I have to weave 31 footnotes in these 16 tables I hope I don't need to place fake notes by hand, do I? Footnote bug(?) with columns and vertical stretch

Hi to all, With \start/\stopcolumns (not columnsets) footnotes work well if grid is enabled. If grid is not enabled and vertical stretch is wanted, with \setupalign[height] \setupinterlinespace[stretch=some value] footnotes disappear. It remains the reference mark in the middle of the text and the space left at the end of the column, but there is no footnote. Changing \setupfootnotes[location=columns, page, etc] does nothing, but endnotes do work. Is this a bug? Thanks in advance, Ricard Roca

Bug in startitemize[text] ?

Hi Hans, \startitemize[text] causes a par break at the end. From the code, it looks like it should not. Here is an example \starttext Some garbage text \startitemize[text,r] \item This is a test \item Which does not work \stopitemize the garbage continues \stoptext There is a par break after the second item. The code in core-itm tries hard to introduce a \par when \listitemtext is true, but somewhere a \par slips in. I could not find out why this happens. Hi, I am confused s to what is happening here. See the output with and without setupindenting \setupindenting [medium,yes] \starttext \startformula Z^i_1 = f^{i,*}(X^i_1,U) \stopformula \startformula Z^i_t = f^{i,*}(X^i_t,U, P^i_{M_{t-1}}) \qquad t=2,3,\dots,T \stopformula \stoptext Why does setupindenting eat the space between the formulas? I used the following commands to set up the layout: \setuplayout[marking=color,location=middle, backspace=4.25pc, cutspace=20pc, topspace=4.25pc, bottomspace=7.5pc, footerdistance=3.5pc, footer=12pt, margindistance=2pc, header=0pc, headerdistance=0pc, leftmargin=0pc, height=middle, weight=middle] but when I change the value of cutspace here, nothing changes. TeXFont bug?

Metapost and CMYK

Hi all, I have some questions about cmyk in combination with Metapost. Just by using \setupcolors[state=start, cmyk=yes, mpcmyk=yes, rgb=no, ] I get cmy(k=0) graphics, although all used colors are still defined in the rgb color space. This is really a nice feature and the automatic color conversion works relative good. Only (so far I have seen) gray tones have a noticeable tendency to brown (Acroreader 7.09). I have tested one of those gray tones by defining it as cmyk and the result looks ok. RGB(223,223,227) CMY(0.12548, 0.12547, 0.10980) CMYK(0.01762, 0.01760, 0, 0.10980) So is there a way to get cymk instead of cmy? Peter

Indenting tables

The current table starts at the left page margin, rather than where the text starts. Is there a simple way to "indent" the left edge of the table to match the surrounding text? How to make a "natural" table float.

My task requires alternating whate and gray bars for a table. I was happy to jump on the Natural Table facility. Further, I want the table to "float" in the classic TeX fashion. I don't know the exact code for this in Context. Manuals

In the NTG MAPS journal of last fall Hans Hagen has written an article titled "What tools do ConTeXt users have?" It broadly describes the many changes and additions to the ConTeXt Perl tools on account of the switch to Ruby tools. In several places a manual or different manuals are pointed to. For example in the section "On launching scripts" it says: "More details can be found in the manual". In the section on "The tools collection" it reads: "Each tool comes with a manual, so we will not discuss details here". These manuals seem very interesting, but I have not being able to find them. They are not in the docs-directory of cont-tmf.zip distribution, nor in the scripts/context/ruby folders. The article does not have url's pointing manual-containing url's. Presumably I am overlooking them; mtexmfstart.pdf I could locate on the pragma site, mtexutil.pdf is on the perl script and seemingly obsolete because texutil is not mentioned in the said article. But manuals on mpstools, mpstools, rlxtools, runtools, to name a few, elude me. Please can someone be of help here. As an aside, a suggestion to Hans Hagen: the documents section of the site does not show the last version date of the manuals. Hi all, I'm using ConTeXt to layout my phd thesis and I need to follow some rather strict rules. One of these is that every page must be numbered. I'm having some trouble adding numbers to the page where the chapter starts and the preceding page (where I place a famous quotation). Below are the definitions in my environment. Bibliography broken after upgrade?

Hi all, I'm using a project/product/component document structure with a recently upgraded version of ConTeXt (via gwTeX). I was previously using a version near 2006.01.xx but decided to upgrade rather than try and patch some of the quirky layout bugs I encountered. Unfortunately, the bibliography module no longer seems to find the references listed in a .bbl when adding the bib module to the product file. Attached is a trivial example of what I have. Running texexec on the component file (cmp_test_bib.tex) results in: texexec --pdf cmp_test_bib texexec --pdf prd_test ... publications : warning: cite argument test1:2001 is unknown on 139 publications : warning: cite argument test1:2001 is unknown on 139 publications : warning: cite argument test1:2001 is unknown on 139 publications : warning: cite argument test2:2002 is unknown on 139 but these references are in cmp_test_bib.bbl file so I'm rather puzzled. I should like to make occurrences of the the string “Figure p” appear as links in my document that will take the reader to Figure p elsewhere in the same document. Is there a way to do this using ConTeXt? Alan

Hi all, I have a module with a envrionment defined in the following way: \def\startFOO#1\stopFOO{...#1...} I try currently to write a command \defineFOO[MYFOO] that expands to my already created environment. \startMYFOO#1\stopMYFOO -> \startFOO#1\stopFOO I know it is possible to make this in the following way: \def\startMYFOO#1\stopMYFOO{\startFOO#1\stopFOO} but this not what I want. problem with pdftex-1.40.1 and Gentium ligatures

When I moved from pdftex-1.30.5-2.2 (from texlive-base-bin 2005.dfsg.2-10 on debian) to pdftex-1.40.1 suddenly ligatures in gentium exhibited erratic behavior: they appeared correctly (or, more accurately, the letters appeared, they did not look like a proper ligature) on screen in xpdf and acroread but did not print (there were just empty spaces). On windows, the fi, fl, and ff combinations made blanks, just as on the printer. Reverting to pdftex-1.30.5-2.2 corrected the problem. Gentium is from ttf-gentium 1.02-2 on debian and the typescript I use is below. Perhaps my poor typesetting knowledge has lead me wrong and the lack of true ligatures is the actual problem? Here are the names of the test files that didn't build with the 2007.01.23 ConTeXt: ERROR [exit code 1] tex/context/base/core-mat.tex/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 1] tex/context/base/unic-031.tex/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 5] metapost/context/base/mp-text.mp/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 5] tex/context/base/s-chi-00.tex/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 5] tex/context/base/s-jap-00.tex/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 5] tex/context/base/unic-003.tex/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 5] tex/context/base/unic-037.tex/test-001.tex ERROR [exit code 6] tex/context/base/unic-002.tex/test-001.tex exit code 1 is texexec's normal failure code, usually from an undefined cseq. Exit code 5 is from the run-it.py wrapper, which is saying that time (60 sec) ran out, before the texexec process had to be killed. And exit code 6 says that the logfile grew too big (currently, beyond 1MB) before the texexec process had to be killed. Problems with fonts

Dear ConTeXt users, I am a Debian GNU/Linux user. I recently upgraded from an old teTeX to the latest ConTeXt in Debian. With the upgrade, however, I got a "missing cont-en.fmt" error (http://bugs.debian.org/409575) which I solved by doing a texexec --make --all, and placing the cont-en.fmt from my .texmf-config into /var/lib/texmf/web2c and ran texhash. Things seem to be OK. But now, whenever I do texexec <filename>, I get a PDF with many mathematical symbols missing. So, I do this: texexec --dvi ee03b091.tex dvips ee03b091.dvi ps2pdf ee03b091.ps Now, this seems to work, but the fonts are not rendered as well as they used to in Acrobat. And this also does not give the fonts, but causes the same math trouble again: texexec --dvi ee03b091.tex dvips -o ee03b091.ps -Ppdf ee03b091.dvi ps2pdf ee03b091.ps What could be wrong? Is my installation broken? Can I salvage it? Thanks. Kumar

including pdf and using the entire page

In my document I want to include a few published pdf files. I have accomplished this with \chapter{File 1} \copypages[file1.pdf][scale=800] % 20 pages \chapter{File 2} \copypages[file1.pdf][scale=650] % 16 pages However, the included pages obey the layout of the rest of the document, and even if the paper in my document could allow a larger scale, I cannot use it since some part of the included file falls off the page. Is it possible to include pdf files and allow each page to use the entire page (possibly with room left for a page number)? I have tried several versions including using makeup (but that is only one page?), pagefigure (also only one page at a time). I have just changed my TeX distribution from the old teTeX to the latest gwTeX. Hi Taco, I have the following setup for my bibliographies \usemodule [bib] \setupbibtex [database={IEEEfull,../../collection}] \setuppublications [alternative=num] \setupcite [num] [compress=yes] When I use \cite[ref1, ref2] I get [1-2]. For only two references, shouldn't this be [1,2]? Aditya

postscript problem

Hi, I have a problem with the postscript output of a MP graphic. The (attached) ps file contains a single blank line, which breaks the conversion by mptopdf. [..] [MP to PDF] (./test-mpgraph.1 Runaway argument? ! Paragraph ended before \handleMPsequence was complete. <to be read again> \par l.19 ? The file is converted by mptopdf, if I remove that blank line. Here is a minimal example. \setupoutput[pdftex] \setuppagenumber[state=stop] \startreusableMPgraphic{foo} draw unitsquare xyscaled(4cm,4cm) withpen pencircle scaled 1pt shifted(1cm,1cm) ; \stopreusableMPgraphic \starttext \null \useMPgraphic{foo} \stoptext I've tested it on context live, but the versions of pdftex and metapost are too old (but work without errors) for any comparison.
