Forcing pictures to stay in sections

Dear ConTeXt users, I would like to do something like this: I have a couple of sections in my page, and some graphics (fairly big, each 1/4th of the page size, say) to be laid out in the sections. Now, there are some sections in which one of the pictures is laid out on one page with some text, but there isn't place to get the image on the same page. So, the image is put on the next page. However, if I start a new section, the image appears under the new section (that is, after the new section heading), which I don't want. How do I enforce the picture to be laid out before the next section heading? One simple way to do it would be to force a new page before a section, but I want to save that space! :-) Thanks. Natural table header mystery.

The table runs ok with the headers omitted. There are 8 columns. But when I add these headers it gives me an error. Problems with "mathalign"

Hello, I wanted to keep Aditya busy now that he finished his wonderful new module ;), so ... I first wanted to ask how to number subformulas in a certain way, but that I figured out that numbering is already causing some problems on its own. Where does this little gap come from? This little cap is really killing when fine-tuning the page breaks: where footnotes end -> they sit on line 43, where they have to break across pages -> they sit on the frame … Jumping up and down, all through the book! CSS-like coding style

Hello, I'm puzzled with an odd thing. If I try to adopt CSS-like coding style, \setuptyping[ before={ \blank[2*big] \setupinterlinespace[line=1ex] }, after={} ] \setuppagenumbering[ location=bottom ] works perfectly. But \setuplayout[ topspace=0cm, bottomspace=2cm, rightmargin=2cm, width=fit, height=fit ] fails and accepts only \setuplayout[ topspace=0cm, bottomspace=2cm, rightmargin=2cm, width=fit, height=fit] What is the rule behind this? :( Best, Vyatcheslav

Hi all, I cannot find how to type a bar over a letter in math mode; in LaTeX the command is something like \overset{-}{q}; but ConTeXt doesn't like it: ! Undefined control sequence. l.1869 p(q_1 + \overset {-}{q_2})+q_1 \frac{dp}{dQ} - Cm_1(q_1) = 0 ? header on last missing when processing xml

Hi Mighty ConTeXters! I have a problem: when I process the XML file 'headertest.xml' below, using 'headertest.tex' (below) with: texmfstart texexec --xtx headertest.tex I get four pages of output (as expected) but on the last page (page 4 in this case) the headline is missing (not expected). Why? And how can this be fixed (i.e. header on all pages)? I experienced this problem with other XML processing tasks, it is always the header on the last page that is missing (one can test this by changing the times parameter of the repeat tag in the XML file). If I get some text from an XML file using \XMLflush, is there a command in PLAIN TeX to replace some symbols (say, “&“ -> \letterampersand), on-a-fly without invoking perl, ruby, or lisp or ...? Enabling PDF comments with ConTeXt

Hi, In early 2005 there was a thread "ConTeXt tool for enabling comments in PDF ?" which discussed the ways in which the output from ConTeXt/pdftex could be commented on by an Acrobat user using the PDF commenting feature. CD cover tool -- handling unusual symbols in folder names

Thanks, \executesystemcommand{myscript.rb} seems to work. But what is the best way to insert a result (say, formatted text) into the 'caller' document body? The only idea I have is to use \input later in the document, but I'm not sure that it would work. Best regards, Vyatcheslav

Hi, I am not sure how a ConTeXt index register is generated and what role the tui and tuo files play. But could it be possible to manually "fine tune" the generated register? Something like from ... Keywords -- secret 35 -- popular 25, 26, 27, 88, 89 ... to ... Keywords see also Commands -- secret 35 -- popular 25-27, 88-89 ... just by typing the changes in one of those helper files? Steffen

\writetolist vs \writebetweenlist

I can use \writebetweenlist to add a line to my TOC. I have to put the page number in manually. Here is the statement: \writebetweenlist[part]{\nimbus\zy{Part 1 Prerequisite for Success}\hfil 22\rm } It would seem more sensible to use \writetolist and let Context determine the page number. But there are two problems: 1. There is an extra set of braces {} for \writetolist, the purpose of which is not stated. 2. A statement similar to the above but with \writetolist[part] and deleting the material from \hfil onward fails on interpetation of the formatting macro \zy. This in turn is a call to the soul.sty package for letterspacing the entry. Here is macro \zy: \sodef\zy{}{.040em}{.25em plus .5em}{2em plus .1em minus .1em} It works OK with \writebetweenlist but fails when part of \writetolist etc. I have two questions: 1. What are the extra braces for in the \writetolist command description? 2. Characters per inch with ConTexT

Hi, I am writing a document where the guidelines say that I should use Times Roman font at 10pt with 15 characters per inch and 6 lines per inch. I am using thermes from tex gyre rscaled=1.015 as the bodyfont. At this setting I get a bit more less than 6 lines per inch (which is fine) but roughtly 17 characters per inch. Any way I could setup fonts so that both these criteria is automatically met? Why do people come up with such criteria :(( Aditya

I have a specification for a chapter head that is so complex I have little hope of modifying the Context head within any reasonable time frame. But I still prefer to use the Context chapter head for TOC, numbering of figures and the like. So I decided to hand code the head but still use \chapter for these other purposes. Here is my current workaround: ------------------------------------------------------------------ \setuphead[chapter][command=\white,header=nomarking] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I still have to use \noheaderandfooterlines as well for some reason. Bolding the words "Figure 2-1"

I too am stuck in specification hell. The specifier is ovenamored of stretching text and the like. I worked through that with the TeX/LaTeX macro soul.sty. My immediate problem is with putting the caption of a table in a different font. Currently I have: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ \setupcaptions[location=top,headstyle=bold,style=bold] \placefigure[here][tab:comp]{Comparison of Corporate and Government Bond Portfolios} { etc. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently I get the caption in bold but the string "Figure 2-1" is not in bold. A second problem: The designer asks for -------------------------------- Figure 2-1 Comparison of Corporate etc. -------------------------------- but I get: ------------------------------- Figure 2-1 Comparison of Corporate etc. -------------------------------- I can avoid \placefigure and hand code each caption of course but that deprives me of the ability to float the figures. Unfortunately they brought in the designer after I had already started work (and cashed the deposit check.) bold versions of fonts

Hi all, I have installed the LinLibertine and Junicode fonts on Linux Ubuntu, minimal tex version. They only work if I comment out the lines concerning the Bold versions of the fonts in my type-scripts. vertical stretch for TABLE ?

Hi, I understood that … \bTABLE[option=stretch] … gives a horizontal stretch, so that a TABLE snaps left and right to the frame (\showframe text edges). When along table is split over several pages with \bTABLE[split=yes] it is very unlikely that the bottom-line of the bottom most row sits on the bottom-line of the text frame. Is there also a kind of \bTABLE[split=yes,option=vstretch] that gives this little stretch over the page's respective rows so that there is also a vertical snap to the text frame? Or is this a too weird request? Steffen

edge+text figure

With the help of details.pdf, I have managed to define edgefigures that use the margin and goes into the text and if it is wide enough (criterium=xxx) becomes a normal figure. Is it possible to make an even wider figure use both the textwidth and the margin? I have tried to illustrate what I want below, a figure is placed as f1 until criterium is met, then it is placed like f2, and I would like to know how to achieve f3. It is not necessary that it is called the same thing and automatic, they are easily identified before. In Context one can use registers for powerful sorting with single or multiple keys. However, it's a little tricky if you want the result to appear other than one element per line. problem with inline use of \lim

Hi all, this may have been mentioned before, but I haven't been able to find an answer to this: if I e.g. use $\lim_{t\rightarrow\infty} f(t)$, the subscript of \lim appears underneath it, i.e. in displaystyle. In LaTeX, it appears below right of \lim, much like with $\sum_{i=1}$. The latter behaviour is of course preferred. I use ConTeXt version 2006.08.08, is this bug/feature know and has it possibly been fixed up to now? XeTeX "tex-text" mapping problem

Hi all, there seems to be a problem with the XeTeX engine and the "mapping:tex-text" feature for OpenType fonts. Try this: --- \usetypescriptfile[type-minion] \usetypescript[minion][uc] \setupbodyfont[minion,13pt] \starttext There is --- without any doubt --- a tiny problem. \stoptext --- together with the attached typescript file. Unfortunately, "---" is not replaced by an em dash :-( Substituting works flawlessly for plain XeTeX examples. Of course, replacing "---" with the proper Unicode em dash in the above source solves the problem (by avoiding it). Any hints as to what I've done wrong? Best, Oliver

Hi, sorry, the next looks so simple, it's probably an often answered thing (I just could not find the answer anywhere…) Why is there a little gap above the figure, though it should be "top".
