Grid-keeping list (again)

Hello, I'm still trying to typeset a "grid-keeping" list (or table). Wolfgang Schuster supplied me off-list with the attached module. This works fine except for one problem: Only the first few lines are placed on the grid, then the grid is lost. After the next pass (i.e. after the next "texmfstart texexec testfile"), some more lines are placed on the grid. (So I need many passes to typeset the complete list correctly). Why? Any idea? (I fiddled around with \synchronizegrid, \placeongrid, \moveongrid, and \startlinecorrection \stoplinecorrection, but none of these seems to work.) Actually $>texmfstart texexec --pdf a.tex ==> a.pdf $>texmfstart texexec a.tex ==> a.dvi ie, tex=>pdf or tex=>dvi because pdftex has two native output format. Of course one can use workflows tex=>dvi=>ps=>pdf tex=>dvi=>html by external tools, or one can write a tex macro that write on file whatever one wants, but it's not what I mean. luigi

Killing the space after a section.

I have the file set up with no parindent and one blank line between paragraphs. but I want to kill the extra space after \section headers. The current definition is: \setuphead[section][number=no,style=\SectSans,page=no,after={\vskip 2sp}] ...but the blank line remains. Do I need to use a negative \vskip? \SectSans is a font I set up (bold, sans serif and slightly larger. ) If there is a way to specify both bold and sans serif at a larger (e.g. \tfb) size I would be happy to use that instead. -- John Culleton Able Indexing and Typesetting Precision typesetting (tm) at reasonable cost. That's a lot of code, which is in part dynamic (number of rows for example depends on number of arguments). An easy way to test OpenType fonts with Context/Xetex from scratch under Windows (XP): 1. Get Texlive 2007 2. Install the Context collection with the Texlive Manager (Xetex is included) 3. Hi, as there are some on this list working/playing with xetex/context: Where do I go when I experience differences between context/pdftext and context/xetex? For example with context/xetex I get ... ! Undefined control sequence. \stopframedtext ->\dostopframedtext ... and I do get "SS" instead of eszett ("ß") with the following: \usetypescriptfile[type-gyr] \usetypescript[times][ec] \mainlanguage[de] \enableregime[utf] \setupbodyfont[times,9pt] Hello Thermes! 1234567890 üööäß Whom to tell this? default pdf version in the current ConTeXt release

Hi, I don't know if it occurs to you ever, but once I update ConTeXt to the current release, my pdf file could be opened by Acrobat reader and shows several blank pages. But Foxit reader seems take it pretty well and everything is showed like I imaged. I'm using Windows by the way. Before I gave up Acrobat reader and turned to Foxit reader, I made my last try: I put \pdfoptionpdfminorversion=3 in my source file and the pdf file shows correctly in Acrobat reader now. When I changed the number to 4, it shows with some problems. When I changed it to 5 and higher, it shows only blank pages. Math symbols in Gentium

Dear ConTeXt users, I have found Gentium to be a nice free alternative font for my documents. I was wondering why the Greek symbols don't get used in documents which use Gentium. They sem to use the same cmr fonts for the math parts. Is it expected to work that way, or is there a way to get the Gentium symbols? My type-sil-gentium.tex has this line, if that's relevant. \definetypeface[sil-gentium][mm][math][default][default][encoding=\defaultencoding] Thanks. Thankyou, but I'm seeking a little more. This example gives columns of equal width. I need to be able to control width for each col, viz some I want tight fitting, others not. Seems that I can do this if I'm explicit about setting width= per column, but with Latex using "tabular*" I didn't need to set width explicitly for each col. Does this make sense? I also can't seem to find a way to draw a fine double line: "\hline \hline \\[-8pt]" "\HL \MR \HL" skips a whole line and godown[] doesn't seem to work in table context. Thanks for any suggestions.

unicode in metafun?

Hi to all, I'm plotting a phonetic formant chart with metapost inside context. I know I can't use TIPA, but I would be happy with utf8. So I'm encoding a utf8 file, and I can see the chars in the source. As an example I see this: ɷ But MP is complaining about not ascii characters. Even outside MP, just using ConTeXt I'm not able to see the previously mentioned char. There's no error with "œ" (I guess it's extended ascii?) but result is \dochar etc printed on resulting pdf. Is there a way to use unicode symbols with metapost? (or what else?) interlinespace and accented capital

Hi list, I have an accented E (É) somewhere in my text. The height of this character changes the interlinespace, probably to avoid collision of the accent and the line above it. Unfortunately it is visually very disturbing to have a larger interlinespace for one single line on the page. I couldn't find a way to make ConTeXt ignore this height and space the lines evenly. Hi Tako, thank you for your response. There is nothing in mpxerr.log. When I was trying to use mptopdf to convert mp file to pdf, it didn't produce myfile-1.pdf... type files, even though it said it was converted. So, I looked up this manual http://tex.aanhet.net/context/mirror/general/sources/mptopdf.pdf and typed "pdftex --ini mptopdf" at command prompt without understanding. Magically, it produced pdf files, but now metapost doesn't work. Maybe, the process "pdftex --ini mptopdf" had changed the path of metapost execution. Scite folding

Dear syndicate, Can Scite be configured for folding based on TeX keywords, or is that something that is hardwired in Scintilla/Scite? I would like to feed Scite all the \start-\stop's, {}, \bgroup-\egroup etc. I looked in the context properties files but did not find anything, and it's certainly not there by default Notepad++ (also scintilla-based) supports this through a nifty define-your-own-language dialog****, as well as global RTL (no interlinear bidi), but the developers are generally unresponsive to requests for help or guidance from end users (as opposed to serious programmers) so I am a bit hesitant about switching from WinEdt to Notepad++. Notepad++ also supports folding in TeX-mode for things like \chapter, \section (without ending tags; adopted from Visual TeX) but the dialog does not let me extend that for ConTeXt (\subject etc). Anyway, whatever you can tell me about Scite and folding would be a big help! Hi Taco, instead of writing a FixMe-module I just started to make my exam-module from 2003 a bit more international. As a first test I set up some commands in german and english see file p-testDE.tex running texexec test1.tex the output is ok but running texexec --mode=english test1.tex I get an error: system : module testDE loaded (./p-testde.tex) ! spreading natural tables across the page

I'm trying to have my tables extend across the full (\textwidth) of the page. In LaTeX I was using tabular*, specifying a \textwidth for width, and with approp use of @{\extracolsep\fill}} bu am not having any success. Basically, in ConteXT I want odd columns to act as labels and be tight fitting but even cols to be the values an NOT be tight-fitting, within a page-wide table, ie some tight, some not. As well, I' d like not to be explicitly specifying column width. I saw examples using option=stretch somewhere but am not able to get my use of same happening. Makeindex and Context

I like the extended feature set of makeindex so I creatred my own little routine to use it with Context on a recent project. Here is the code: \newwrite\ind \immediate\openout\ind=book.idx \def\sidx#1{\write\ind{\\indexentry{#1}{\the\pageno}}} It works fine from the indexing point of view. But if the \sidx{} tag is embedded in a paragraph then some extra space is left where the tag existed in the paragraph. bookmark, underscore bug?

Hey all, I'm a new Context user, so forgive me if I do not have the standard formalities down... I have come across what I believe to be a bug with respect to filenames containing the underscore character '_' and the ability to generated pdf bookmarks (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Image:Acroread.png image if you're not sure what exactly the bookmarks are in a pdf format) If I use the simple example \setupinteraction[state=start] \placebookmarks[chapter,section,subsection] \setupinteractionscreen[option=bookmark] \starttext \chapter{One} \section{demo} \stoptext The file new-file.tex and newfile.tex work properly, but the file new_file.tex does not. I'll gladly ignore for now and just use all alphnumerical letters... but I'm a big underscore user (as one can see from my email address), and would like to keep going that route if possible. Any information would be appreciated! Love the Context showcase demos... hope to build some of my own. -Rick

Vertical text alignment in nested natural tables

Hi, I am having a problem using nested natural tables, to which I have a solution but feel that it my not be the proper approach. I'm pretty much a TeX and ConTeXt novice. The problem is that the row height it reduced when a table is nested, breaking vertical text alignment across cells. In my example the cells "SSSSS" and "Swap" to not align vertically due to the presence of the "p". I have an example of the problem and my fix below. I'm curious if someone knows a better way to fix this. math: \usemathcollection and \enablemathcollection

I'm quite lost with \usemathcollection and \enablemathcollection -- I checked the manual, the wiki, and the source browser, but without success for my problems. I just don't get how math font switching works for e.g. Lucida fonts, and why it does not for my fonts in my setup. So: What is the correct use of \usemathcollection and \enablemathcollection i.e. where should these appear (and where not)? Do I need \enablemathcollection at all? In my current setup (see below), I have two problems: ---- Major problem: I would like to switch my math fonts globally. Currently I have to apply \enablemathcollection e.g. after every \startcolumns (and after other environments as well), otherwise my math fonts are used, but not in the desired encoding, which results in wrong symbols shown. ---- Minor problem: I would like make sure that all math symbols do come from my math fonts and aren't taken from CM or other fonts. Is this possible? E.g. could I get an error message (or some special black box or the like in my pdf file) for each math control sequence which is not (yet) defined in my current mathcollection? --autopdf blues

Dear gang, In M$-Windows (and probably unix as well) Acrobat/Reader has the very irritating feature such that, if called from the command line, it forgets its last position and resizes itself to the default position, somewhere in the middle of the screen. This makes --autopdf useless if one wants (like me) to have Acrobat always open up in the same corner of my screen's real estate each time. WinEdt opens Acrobat properly but since I'm moving away from that (no unicode/bidi support) I tried automating things in batch files etc. After hours of struggle I finally learned that clicking on a shortcut to Acrobat/Reader works while running it from the command line will never work right... ...unless one activates the .LNK extension in the system control panel. See http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1111214434?s Now --autopdf depends on pdfopen.exe, so I can't configure it apparently (tested pdfopen.exe directly). Can pdfopen.exe be recompiled so that it opens Adobe in the last-opened position like a lnk shortcut does? For what it's worth something like > "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\Adobe Acrobat 7.0 > Professional.lnk" foo.pdf will work in a batch/make file in the meantime. But it would be nice if texexec -autopdf did the same thing. Any thoughts? Microsoft Word -> Context

Hello, My faculty receives papers in MS Word format. One poor computer literate lady is working very hard to typeset a journal of consistent quality from those papers. All work is performed in MS Word and I consider to suggest her to move to ConText (she don't have a slightest idea of it at the moment, by the way). I already have some fonts and header files to typeset math papers in Russian and I think I could setup all things for her and provide help if needed. Then, we need something like Word2ConText (or a macro written in VBA) to convert incoming papers to ConText code and then easily assemble them. Something, that resembles famous Word2Tex application. Section title font define

Hi all, I am going to write my thesis with ConTeXt. The problem is that our University wants chapter titles to be 18 points while body text is 11 points. I do not want to use \switchtobodyfont every time I type a chapter title, but I have no idea how to make it a style in the setup area. Any hints? Thanks a lot. Yous, Roy

Hi all, not really a question about specific code, but I need an idea: I have a fairly large bibliographical list which is generated from an even larger bibtex database. Now, I want to quote some of the items from this list on my slides, but I want to retain the original numbering in the list, like so: the list: [1] item A [2] item B [3] item C the slide: [2] item B [3] item C Can anyone suggest an approach for this? Unfortunately the following doesn't work: \startalignment[right] \placepublications \stopalignment With each publication item filling barely more than two lines justification looks rather ugly (and causes a number of overfull boxes) ...
