Hi everybody... Hi, the following (with mkii) is probably not the most pressuring topic to most of you ... apologies! Although I have set \mainlanguage[de] the register seems to be unaffected. All my cultural heritage (i.e. the Umaut) is ignored!!! o( The problem is the sorting – keywords containing umlauts seem to be sorted after "e": Bestimmung Bühler Bildung Are there language-specific arguments/options for \placeregister[index]? bib module in pdftex and luatex

Hi all (esp. Taco ;-), here's a very fundamental question about the bib-module: my main bib file now has ~ 1,700 entries. When I tried to compile a file which includes bibliographic references in mkii, I got this error: ! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [hash size=60000]. \@@shortsectionnumber ...\c!conversion \endcsname \relax \@EA \ifx \csname \... \@@longsectionnumber ...\@@shortsectionnumber {#1} \fi \finalsectionnumber ...alue {\@@sectie \c!number } \fi \fi \dodododoconstructhead ...er {\someheadconversion }\getvalue {\??ko #1\c!inb... l.162 \section{Textausgaben} ! ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! The same file compiles without errors in mkiv. So I'm curious: Is it possible that the bib file is just too large for mkii? Or is it more probable that there's some error in it such as missing crossref etc? Does anyone have experience with large bib files and the bib module? Thanks, and best wishes Thomas

Dear all, I tried to compile s-pre-61.tex to see the interaction. At the first time, I got the font error. It had a problem to use Optima-nova font. I changed the bodyfont to pagella in type-gyr.tex file and tried again. It runs without the error, but it didn't make pdf output. I checked the log file and found the following strange message (1),(2), and (3). ... A ruby script to create the font for Chinese fonts

Hi, Although Hans has made the perfect ruby script "ttf2uni.rb" that meets most of our needs, I just found that "sometimes" embedding ttf files is very very slow, so I made some tiny modifications on it. It will convert an oft file to a ttf file if no ttf files are found in the names of the arguments, then use ttf2pt1 to span it into multiple type1 binaries with fontforge. Actually the only thing we need is the uni-??.enc, ????.tfm, ????.pfb, ????.map and ????.afm, I don't know what is the ????.enc files can do but I still kept them in a folder. I just tried using the first_setup.sh script from http://minimals.contextgarden.net/setup/context-setup-linux-64.zip and ran into a small problem with the texlua binary. It seems that the installation went OK after that. I suspect that the 64-bit linux texlua binary on the web site is old, which also seems to be the case in comparing the timestamps on the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Problems with using PPCHTEX in LaTeX

Dear Mr. Hagen, I have a problem with using PPCHTEX with LaTeX (MikTeX 2.6). After reporting this problem at GoogleGroups I get a message to report the problem directly to you. The problem is, that only the including of \usepackage{m-pictex, m-ch-de} makes six errors (pdflatex). Hi, I don't know how many of you know/use this command above. It is quite useful for finding over-full lines and for controlling index/register marks. I see on the wiki that there are plans to create a "stable", "beta", and "broken" branches of the new minimals distribution on minimals.contextgarden.net. About the indent after a displayed formula

Placing meaningful footnotes

Hi everybody, Right now I'm writing an article and in the title's block I wanna thank somebody and in the authors' block I wanna display the email addresses. And I want them done with footnotes with "set 2" conversion. When I use =========================================== \definenote[thanks][conversion=set 2] \definenote[email] [conversion=set 2, textstyle=type] =========================================== The footnotes are shown with two areas, one for the \thanks and another for the \email, and they all started with "*" symbol, I mean there're two footnotes noted by star-symbol. texexec completion script for zsh

Hi, I just put together a simple completion script for texexec in zsh. Zsh can do some fancy completions with tab. I have written a completion script that gives some command line switches of texexec as part of tab completion in zsh. MkIV on Ubuntu

Hi, I am trying to install mkiv on ubuntu. I installed luatex from Norbert Preinin's Debian sources and used ctxtools --update to get the latest version of ConTeXt. In order to get luatools --generate to work, I needed to TEXMFCACHE and SELFAUTOPARENT environmental variables. After that, format creation seemed to work. ctxtools --contextversion gives CtxTools | context version: 2007.12.11 22:14 (/usr/local/share/texmf/tex/context/base/context.tex) CtxTools | context version: 2007.12.11 22:14 (/usr/local/share/texmf/tex/context/base/cont-new.tex) luatools lmr10.afm gives /usr/share/texmf/fonts/afm/public/lm/lmr10.afm (which is ok, expcept that there is an extra new line). However, mtxrun --script fonts --list --pattern=pagella gives MtxRun | unknown script: fonts When I try to compile a simple \starttext hello world \stoptext document with luatex, I get. Hello, I have this definition: \def\oneplot#1#2#3% {\placefigure [here][#3] {\bfc #2} {\hfil \scale[width=10.5cm]{#1} \hfil} } (It is modified from an example on the wiki that takes only the first two arguments). I use it like this: \oneplot % image % caption % reference {\externalfigure[Fluorita_green]} {Fluorite cleavage} {cleavage} but the reference is ignored and I get ?? in the compiled document. Hyphenation with apostrophes

Hi, I'm writing a text in catalan language. Hyphenation patterns are loaded correctly, however when I want to write an apostrophed word, hyphenation doesn't work. For example, the word "instructions" is written "instruccions". When I want to say "of instructions" is "d'instruccions". Hyphenation rules in catalan work normally in this case, that is: "d'ins-truc-cions" but I see in context the whole word at the end of a column line surpassing the margin limits without hyphenation. I see that this is happening in all words beginning with contracted articles or prepositions like d' l' etc... How can I solve this, Thanks to all, Zeus.

Hi, I'm reprting another problem with jammed context/luatex. To avoid my previous problem with table I tried trunk version of luatex. One problem is solved, another one appeared - but now it's not so easy to determine what causes the trouble. I found following: When I try to compile my thesis(quite long doc.), everythig seem to work fine until final step(final pdf file has 99.8% of its normal size) where it hangs using 100% CPU, just after this report: report:lua : loaded patterns - cz:cz:pat:exc:3 en:en:pat:exc:2 lua : current memory usage - 294785281 bytes lua : cleaned up reserved nodes - 18 nodes, 11 lists (of 100) remark : temporary fallback to base mode for tlig and trep ) (see the transcript file for additional information) node memory in use: -3138 words out of 100000 I uncovered that when I comment out line with my font settings (\usetypescriptfile.................) leaving everything default, complilation passes OK. It's strange, because another thin that helps is deleting some lines of the source file, i.e. this line: \part{something} Deleting of some other different lines helps too, I can't find the rule, sorry. I'm still not able to make simple document causing the same problem. I'm sorry for bothering you again. ZS

After starting afresh after an os update and much trouble in getting all those texmf.cnf parameters in order followed by context specialities, I finally managed to get the cont-en.fmt in /usr/local/ texlive/2007/texmf-config/web2c/pdftex/cont-en.fmt. Hi all, does anyone know whether LuaTeX will be part of TeX Live 2008? If I browse the SVN correctly, it currently contains a 1 year old ConTeXt, checked in by Taco, and no LuaTeX. It would be great if at least an up-to-date ConTeXt and possible LuaTeX could be included. (Esp. since several Linux distributions have their TeX based on TeX Live and are reluctant to create extra packages.) Tobias

color expansion at runtime

Hi, I desperately need runtime defined colors (state dependent) for my macros. The macros are used with different graphic styles, which is the reason why I want to avoid any style dependent part inside them. To give you an example. I need something like this \color[{\StateDependentColor[stateA=green,stateC=blue,whatever=yellow,...]}] If flag 'stateA' is true at runtime, then color 'green' is used (and so on; order is significant). I have written such a macro, but sadly it crashes when used inside \color or \definecolor. Tried to debug it, but this is my first experience with the trace commands (probably not the best example to start with). Sigh, still so much to learn.. :) Any hints are welcome. Hi, I know that this must be an faq and I seem to have lost my context knowledge: I'd like to get an unnumbered chapter, but it should appear in the table of contents. In the table of contents (toc), I want to list chapter names and section names for the main part. However for the appendices, I want to list only the chapter names. HTML to Context with Regular Expressoin

Hello, I'm trying to create WYSWYG editor for Context. I started with FCKeditor which is great HTML WYSWYG. My idea was to use html code generated by FCKeditor than to use regular expression so ContexT. Thats giving me headache. In contextgarden I found some solution for changing HTM to ConTeXt but i didn't find any that would use regular expression. Now i wonder if there is any list of expressions for replacing HTML with ConTeXt or should I start somewhere on contextgarden and hope for help to complete. filepath on format generation

I migrated my texlive2007 tree to a new disk and now I encounter permission difficulties on context format generation. Calling the bashrc alias: alias formats='texmfstart texexec --make en; texmfstart texexec --make --alone metafun After the normal (error) messages about ls-R updating I get a permission error: TeXExec | using search method 'kpsewhich' TeXExec | updating file database mktexlsr: Updating /Users/hans/Tex/texmf-private/ls-R... mktexlsr: /usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf: directory not writable. Flowed text around figures in columns

absolute positioning?

Hello! What is the current most contextish way for absolute positioning of text (still using MK II)? I have to create a title page for a document where several frameless boxes of text have to be placed on the page. Is this still the layer mechanism? Hi, I uploaded a new (mkiv) beta. The biggest change is that there are some optimizations in the cached mkiv font tables which should lead to (1) faster loading and (2) a smaller memory footprint. I may have messed some things in the process, so testing is appreciated. LaTeX float pages in ConTeXt

I've been playing around with the float placement options in ConTeXt, but I could find no way to enable "float pages". If you're not familiar with float pages, here's a quick blurb: "If there are too many floats to fit on a page, LaTeX pushes them on to the next page, and the next; eventually, floats may end up at the end of the document. If the [p] option has been provided to individual figures and tables, they may be pushed together onto a float page that has no text." - http://mintaka.sdsu.edu/GF/bibliog/latex/floats.html I'm not interested in using \setupfloat[figure][default=page]. It forces all figures to a float page with one picture per page. Combining eps figures into a single document

Hi all, I am not sure if there is an easy way to do this with a generic ConTeXt document but I thought I'd ask anyways. I have a folder full of identically sized data plots saved as eps/pdf files and I was wondering if there was a quick way to shrink and tile them into a multi-page document so that I get 15 plots per page (5 rows x 3 colums)? I have scripts that generate these plots and I literally have hundreds of them that I need to combine and print. Any ideas? Many thanks, Dave

extended dictionary / hyphenation patterns

Hi, I guess German is famous for its monstrous compound words ;o( So I have a manually collected lists of hyphenation patterns (like "\hyphenation{Selbst-kon-troll-ein-rich-tung}"). This I'd like to keep as a two separate files: on for usage with the body-text set in \mainlanguage[deo] and one for \mainlanguage[de]. Is there a handy way to automatically assign and include one of these files (HyPold and HyPnew) to the usage of the respective \mainlanguage [deo] and [de] ? Steffen

FLOWchart clipping or offset

Consider this example. As it stands, the cells in the flow chart are clipped on the horizontal extremes. On the other hand if the offset is uncommented, a vertical offset is introduced which makes the bottom of the chart depart from the page (or at least it does in the real world use from which this is drawn). I remember horoffset from some context but it does not work here. Is there a solution I am missing? I have been unable to install the latest ConTeXt beta—both sudo texhash sudo fail (stall) when updating /usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf-dist/ls-R... The last beta worked as expected and, so far as I know, there have been no changes in my installation. Any suggestions? Alan

Unwanted information in PDF files

Hi, After generating a PDF from a .tex file, I changed the name of the resulting PDF to something else. But when I open that file in 'evince', it still shows the old file name. I opened that file in emacs in saw that I lot of info is stored in the PDF file: original file name, creation date, "generated by Context" etc. That can be a problem sometimes. For instance, someone wouldn't want to write a file like 'I_hate_my_job.tex' and then change the result to 'report_to_boss.pdf', just to see his manager opening the file and reading the first name. Or, in my situation, write a file with special Unicode characters and see evince show the file name as bogus characters. How can I instruct Context not to write anything inside the PDF file that I have not asked for? Thanks, Maurício

PDF Bookmarks on unnumbered subjects/titles etc

Has anyone managed to get ConTeXt to generate PDF bookmarks for the unnumbered headings such as \title, \subject, etc? Anybody got any ideas how to get this to work? Heading styles

Hi all, Two questions concerning heading styles: 1) How can I control vertical spacing of section headings. I'm doing it now with: \setuphead [subsection] [before=\vskip -7pt, after=\vskip -20pt] But I think this is quite clumsy, because I'm adding a negative spacing. I only want to remove the "default" spacing... 2) I want to use a complete different font for headings. My mainface family is iwona but I want subsection titles in Palatino. How can I make this? [Dev-luatex] beta 0.20.1 released

Hi all, I have just uploaded the archives for luatex 0.20.1. This is a bugfix release for wednesday's beta, and it fixes the following issues: * texlua was broken on Solaris because the some C header files were loaded in the wrong order. * os.tmpdir() now accepts an argument, making it easier to use. It now generates more unique filenames when it is called repeatedly in one run. * The --luaconly commandline switch is now documented in the --help text. * The new extended hyphenation exceptions were severely broken. * \pdfprotrudechars could cause luatex to abort with an assertion failure. * There was a bug in the \span code that could cause endless loops. * The simple forms of \leaders were messed up on windows because a variable was not properly initialized. * Non-grouped \textdir commands created invalid output. * e-TeX's pseudo files were not closed properly in ini mode. * The luatex.web now weaves properly again. * I made some small improvements to the manual. Project file structure

Hi all! I know that ConTeXt looks for files *higher*in the directory tree when it doesn't find them. But is there a way to tell ConTeXt to specifically look for files lower in the tree? One of my project - a dictionary - will involve thousands of component files, as the best way to manage its production is to keep every entry in an individual component file. But I'm a sucker for orderly and clean directories. I'd really like to group all my stuff into several subdirectories, below my main file. :-) Is it possible, or am I grasping at straws here? Thanks!
