Indenting with ConTeXt

Hi, I'm very new to ConTeXt and I've got some (probably naive) questions about indenting. 1. According to the ConTeXt Excursion, using \setupindenting[medium] should lead to indented paragraph. And actually, at least for me, it doesn't... I saw examples on the wiki with \setupindenting[yes,medium]: this actually works, but the 'yes' option is not documented for the \setupindenting command on texshow. What am I missing here? Is the \indenting command needed even to indent the whole document? It is not what I understood from the Excursion... 2. I have not been able to indent the first paragraph after a \section (or any other titling) command. Isn't it the role of the 'first' option for \setupindenting? Is a trick needed to have it work? Bug with command \to in captions

Hi, The simple example: \starttext \placefigure[][]{$x \to 0$}{My figure} \stoptext does not compile, whether it's on my installation or on the live interface. It seems that there is a problem with using \to in captions... Or maybe I'm missing something... Morgan

(Most) stable minimal for Mac Intel

Hi folks, after hesitating for a while I've decided to take the plunge and dive into LuaTeX finally. I'm just a bit confused about what the most stable release of LuaTeX is at the moment and where to get it ... from Pragma or the garden? There is a minimal distribution dated 2007-08-08 at Pragma but it appears slightly outdated ... shall I still get this one or is there a later version which also runs more or less smoothly? I'd be glad if someone pointed me to the "right" minimal ... by the way, my machine is an Intel Mac equipped with Leopard. Thanks for your help, Oliver

Using Postscript Type 1 fonts in ConTeXt/XeTeX?

Hi, I am fairly new to both ConTeXt (and XeTeX) but I've already been very impressed with the active user community and the amount of documentation available, as well as with the sheer userfriendliness of ConTeXt when compared to LaTeX. Now I'm trying to get into fonts, but activating a Postscript Type 1 font seems to go beyond my abilities and the wiki documentation on http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Fonts_in_XeTeX . Perhaps anybody can help? I have a Postscript type 1 font family called Eco, consisting of Eco101Roman, Eco102Italic, Eco301Bold and some others. FontBook shows these names identically as PostScript name, Full Name and Family name (which means Fontbook is unaware that they are a family, but this is not the topic here). Bibliography in luatex: another question

Hi all, I encounter a strange behaviour with luatex: An entry of my bib file has this author's name: author = {Antoine {Destutt de Tracy}}, I enclose the complex name with {} to avoid confusion with the first name, as is usual with bibtex. But with a "\cite[author][destv]" command, the result in the pdf is: (Des- tutt de Tra- cy) which never happened with pdftex or xetex. Any idea? -- Jean

place figures at the end of document

Hi, Is there a way in ConTeXt to place figures (and other floats) at the very end of the document? More specifically I would like to keep on having to placefigure code at the relevant place in the text where I would normally typeset with the option [here], but sometimes readers want all figures moved to the end of the document and it would be handy if this could be done by changing a keyword. thanks, Peter

file runs diferently on windows and linux

ConTeXt on Ubuntu

Has anyone had success running ConTeXt as packaged with Ubuntu? I can't get texexec --lua to find the ConTeXt format files, nor can I figure out how to generate the format files for luatex. XeTeX is similarly flaky. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy alpha in hopes of getting more up-to-date packages; is this a vain hope? --Joel

multi-page table numbering

Hello, By default, ConTeXt numbers the table on each page in a multi-page table with a different number (e.g., 1a, 1b, 1c for a three page table). I don't see this as a problem except for that each page of a multi-page table will be called out in the list of tables. Does anybody know how suppress the printing of each page of a multi-page table in the list of tables? Cheers, Mike

typesetting underscore

Hi! Yesterday I played a bit with emacs' muse mode which has option to 'publish' to ConTeXt, but its output was wailing when texeexec-ing due to use of \textunderscore (option in muse). Today I discussed the issue on muse mailing list, got help and the following remark: '...Context gurus don't seem to imagine you can use "_" elsewhere than in math mode btw'. I looked at ConTeXt docs (excursion and manual), as well as wiki on contextgarden, but was not able to find more about what is the status of underscore '_' char in ConTeXt and is the above remark true? My usage of '_' in muse document was for preparing tables of some library functions and, as it is often the case in software, there is usually some prefix for all library functions as eg. gtk_xxxxx for GTK+ toolkit. Bug or feature? Strange counter behaviour in macro

Hello everyone, first off: I am new to ConTeXt (even if not so new to LaTeX) and would like to transfer some of my old macros to ConTeXt... I am well aware, that this means re-programming (most) of them. So be it. Furthermore, I am not sure if this is really the right way (read ConTeXt Way) to do it. It just looked like a good idea at the time ... However, I just hit a snuff with the following: If one places \NewIssue[Some Time] somewhere in the text, it should result in a new (issue / timestamp) to be generated, which can then placed in a list of issues / changes. Hi, when I'm trying to use tables (\starttables ... \stoptables), I'm often getting the following error: --- ! problem with small cyrillic yo

Hi all! I've noticed that some documents lacks small cyrillic letter yo (ё) when typeset with input files in utf encoding. It's encoded as \cyrillicyo everywhere but as \cyrillicio in uni-0004 (line 100). I've changed this and didn't noticed problems so far. Maybe these files are autogenerated somehow, so please fix this where appropriate. BTW capital yo is coded as \cyrillicYO everywhere and typesets right. -- Best regards Oleg

(It's really a pity that quite some people whom I was hoping to see or get to know will not be able to participate this year.) I had two locations in mind, but I have chosen the nicer and cheaper one, which consequently means that it is fully booked months in advance. Hello, What directories in luatex-cache should be world writable? It seems to me, at least some sub-dirs in $TEXMFCACHE/luatex-cache/context/XXX/fonts And do these world writable directories present any security risk? (For example: user A writes some evil code into file $TEXMFCACHE/luatex-cache/context/XXX/fonts/otf/file.otf that makes user B remove all his files when running "texexec --luatex document.tex") Cheers, Peter -- http://pmrb.free.fr/contact/

Weird behavior about metafun

Hi Hans and Wolfgang, I'm just trying to make some illustrations about the Chinese typesetting features. So I choose the way which is described in Chapter 5 of the metafun manual. And I wanna draw a line from the text I wanna comment on to the marginal notes which my comments lay on. To highlight them, I drew an underline below the contexts which is to be commented and put a square around the comments. Everything is under control except I put \fpos and \tpos around the comments, the framed box is not exactly what I want. It seems that metafun still thought it's in the main text so it drew the bounding around the body. I found the mpos:par was defined in core-pgr.tex and it used show_par or draw_par which are defined in mp-core.mp. I don't think it's a good way to define another MPpositiongraphic called like mpos:marginpar to match my case. Footnotes in PDF bookmarks

Hello I'm having a problem: footnotes that I've placed in chapter titles are appearing in PDF bookmarks (after the title text). The Table of Contents is OK, the footnotes are ignored there. Is there some way of making the footnotes not appear in PDF bookmarks? (I'm using XeTeX). Thanks.

Hi all, first, a very happy new year 2008 to all of you! May ConTeXt continue to prosper and develop at a brisk pace :-) What better way to start the new year than asking a stupid question on the list? Here comes: I must be missing something really obvious here. I have a font (otf) with a number of (metrical) symbols which I use in a module. In mkii, I defined an encoding within this module to address the symbols: \startencoding[metr] \definecharacter metricbreve 66 \stopencoding so I can use the symbold with \metricbreve. Works great in mkii. But how do I do this in mkiv, which doesn't seem to read and use the encoding anymore? All best Thomas

I'm uncertain whether it is worth reporting such things or whether, given the rapid change of luatex and mkiv, you think this is unnecessary? All best Thomas

is it possible to produce PDF with version < 1.3

hello all the pdf I've produced declares to be PDF v1.5 which seems to be unreadable if the acrobat version is not 8 Is it possible to demand an older version of PDF for the result of a compilation with texexec or does it depend on the ConTeXt features used?
