Hello everybody, hello Wolfgang, Since I've needed to typeset some letters I'd test the last béta letter module. The result is realy great (the signature is a the right place). I'd just need to use \setuplabeltext[fr][letter:enclosure={P.J.\,:\kern\spaceamount},letter:subject=Objet\,: ] in order to have the right traductions for « subject ». Some small things : — changing the interligne space dont change it in the « fromaddress » — why can't I put all the \setupletter in the same section ? for exemple : \setupletter [place=Paris] [place] [separator={, le }] don't work, and I need to use : \setupletter [place=Paris] \setupletter [place] [separator={, le }] Anyway, thank's a lot, it work's great ! UTF-8 and Sigma

Hello, using \enableregime[utf] \starttext Σ, σ or ς? \stoptext with pdftex prints "Σ, σ or σ?" (but the latter should be a \varsigma and not a \sigma). And with LuaTeX the result is even "Σ, or ?", i.e. the small sigmas disappear completely. Can this be fixed, even though the proper way would be to use a different font? Tobias

Enumeration after section heading in margin

Hello, I am trying to use ConTeXt to create my CV. I have succesfully placed the subject headings in the margin by using: \setuphead [subject] [alternative=text,distance=0pt,command=\MyHead] \def\MyHead#1#2{\inmargin{#1 #2}} When the text that follows the heading is a simple paragraph everything works as expected: Subject Text Text... Text Text... However when the first thing after the heading is an enumeration (or a table, for that matter) the enumeration is not aligned with the heading (it's lower than the heading): Subject * Item1 * Item2 I have tried to remove whitespace around the enumeration with the 'nowhite,joinedup' options but it is still not aligned. Is there a way to align the enumeration (and other non-inline objects) with the heading? Thanks, Alexandros

TeX-MP interaction in mkii and mkiv

Hi, I cannot understand why mkii and mkiv give different output in the attached example modified from Thomas's presentation module. The output of MKII is correct. In MKIV, the first picture (Left) is not correct, and I cannot understand why is this the case. I am using the latest minimals and the latest svn luatex. Thanks, Aditya

Resetting equation numbering at each section

Hello, I want figures and formulas to start with number 1 in each section. 1 Section Figure 1 a + b = c (1) a + b = c (2) 2 Section Figure 1 a + b = c (1) Figure 2 For figures this works: \setupfloats [way=bysection,sectionnumber=,separator=] But for equations it doesn't (I get 2.1) though the same parameters seem to be available in command: \setupformulas [way=bysection,sectionnumber=,separator=] Any hints about how to prevent this are welcome. Extra space before itemize

Hi, I am setting up a head which simply puts its contents in a layer, so that I can control where to place the head. If the head is followed by an itemize, I get spurious white space. See the following test file. Page 1 is head followed by text, which is OK. Problem with text floating around tikz picture

Hi again;), this won't work: \placefigure[right]{none}{\starttikzpicture \draw (0,0) -| (2,2) -| (0,0) -- (2,2) (2,0) -- (0,2) (1,1) circle(1); \stoptikzpicture} (some text...) The tikzpicture apparently extends to the whole text width, resulting in an overfull box (and nasty paragraph formatting). "Math drawings for dummies"

Hello, for those who are afraid of Metapost (or simply think that it takes too much time to program a simple figure with not too fancy features), there's a magnificent point-and-click tool for creating mathematical drawings with "perfect precision" and TeX labels matching the style of your document. (If you want to find itersection of curves, or curves going through several points, you don't need to "pretend that you have hit the intersection" as you would do in Corel Draw.) how to typeset this formula ?

Hi, I have a DOC-file with a lot of quite complex math formulae. Trying to find a good workflow from doc to context I was experimenting with the Word plugin MathType, resp. with the different translator options (any better tip very welcome!). The best results I had with typesetting the code with newmath. Only one kind of formula with arrays gave errors. I attach the respective formula as a doc file here. Does anybody know a better way to deal with this kind of formulae in ConTeXt? Any help very much appreciated!! Steffen

misbehaving \column

more bad news about latest beta

OK, I have more bad (for me) news about the latest beta: it simply refuses to play with some of my fonts; most importantly for me with the Gentium fonts. Whenever I try to compile something with Gentium in it, I get the error message !luaTeX error (file /Users/tas/Library/Fonts/GenAR102.ttf): Invalid glyph index (gid 1699) ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! MtxRun | fatal error, code: 70 I have now compared the latest beta and an older one, and I think the culprit is this line: load otf | featurefile: /Users/tas/texmf/fonts/fea/context/greek- babel.fea luatex then goes on to create luatex-cache/context/408a90c432ceda2c1e4a80ad5d0e5350/fonts/otf/GenAR102(a)greek-babel.tma luatex-cache/context/408a90c432ceda2c1e4a80ad5d0e5350/fonts/otf/GenAR102(a)greek-babel.tmc The thing is, I know that Gentium doesn't work with this fea file; that's why I wrote one specifically for this font. Gentium is nowhere connected to this fea file. When I use an older version, this fea file is not used and GenAR102(a)greek-babel.tma is not created. The newer version creates it, and I have no clue why... Very puzzled Thomas

latest beta

Hi Hans, the latest beta has a problem with font handling: in my Greek output, the letters "sigma" and "sigmaalt" don't work anymore; they're replaced either by some "undefined" character (box with letter "X" in it) or by empty spaces. I tried to find out where something has changed, but haven't found anything so far. If you don't have an immediate idea what's wrong, I'll try to investigate further. Thomas

How to get the ligatures back in mkiv?

Hello, A while back, script=latn has been removed from features=default. It was an extremely sad story, but at that time it was possible to redefine it at least. Now I cannot make it work any more, or at least I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but I don't get the fi ligature with the following code: \definefontfeature [default] [script=latn,liga=yes,kern=yes,tlig=yes,trep=yes] \definefontsynonym [Garamond-Roman] [AGaramondPro-Regular] [features=default] I have switched to XeTeX for now (\font\a='Adobe Garamond Pro' at 15pt\a works OK), but that's not the solution. relative file locations when compiling from different folders (in projects)

Hello, I'm just wondering if there's some recipe about how to simplify the work when icluding other files and images in projects, when one is compiling from different folders. For example: articles/08/01/art-one.tex (product) articles/08/01/art-two.tex (product) articles/08/02/art-three.tex (product) articles/08/02/art-four.tex (product) articles/08/magazine_2008.tex (product) components/funny.tex (component) img/08/01/img-1.png img/08/01/img-2.png img/08/01/img-3.png img/08/02/img-2.png magazine_all.tex (project) layout.tex (environment) If I do > cd articles/08/01 > texexec art-one then images are expected to be set up as ../../../img/08/01 and if I need to \input somefile from the project (like "funny.tex"), even if that's a component, I need to provide some explicit location. But then I would want to compile > cd articles/08 > texexec magazine_2008 and then all relative paths break, even when specified in subfolders. Now I would need to set up ../../img/08/01 as image directory. Even though the article provides relative path, that path is now relative to the document I compile one folder lower in hierarchy, not to the document that defines the relative path (which is a bit weird, but I understad why it is so). Also ... is there some elegant way to include "funny.tex" from an article, so that it will work both in article and magazine? (I'm thinking about putting \def\projectroot{../../} at the top of files, but that's a bit ugly.) I can solve the problem in my own ways with some weird macros, like the ones that set image directory to "directory={../../../img/08/01,../../img/08/01,img/08/01}" at the top of every article file, but my solutions are all a bit ugly. (Another thing is that it needs to be flexible enough, so that I don't need to change every single article in case that I decide to move images or articles to another location in project.) If some elegance exists to solve that, I would welcome any hints or suggestions. But as I said: it's all solvable in one way or another, so this is just a low-priority request for sharing your ideas. I'm posting this because I would almost bet that there's some one-liner to solve it all :) :) :) Thanks, Mojca

showcase on mac?

Willi Egger helped me get a minimal install working on my mac and I'm working on a collection of columns illustrated with pictures. It's been a while since I used Context so I want to download some basic manuals to refresh my memory and learn new things. On my Windows machine I can view/navigate and download manuals from the http://www.pragma-ade.nl/showcase.pdf page, but on my mac this doesn't work. In the Safari browser, nothing happens if I click on the "manuals" link. In Firefox, the showcase PDF is downloaded and I can open it. After allowing the file to go full screen, I get error messages for the links "there was an error opening this document/ the file cannot be found', execpt on the "quit" link ;-) Is there a simple thing I should change to make it work on the mac as well? Hi, In MkIV of last beta version (2008.10.03 23:45), when I was loading certain Chinese fonts such as AdobeSongStd-Light or SimSun, LuaTeX happened to be interrupted. These problems which include lousy code of certain Chinese fonts in pdf that is generated by MkIV, seem to connect with LuaTeX. >From revision 1525 to 1535, LuaTeX can always work very well except text of using SimSun font is lousy code in pdf. After cleaning $TEXMFCACHE, I compiled revision 1540 of LuaTeX and used it, and then I encountered fails to load almost Chinese fonts. However, if I don't clean $TEXMFCACHE generated by revision 1535 of LuaTeX and use revision 1541, there is no any problem.

Dear all, I hope that you understand a little bit off topic question. Recently, I installed smultron and set it up to use ConTeXt Minimals following the instruction in ConTeXt wiki. Basically it worked. But the command result window didn't properly show what is going on during the compilation. But it appeared some time but it didn't some other time. I couldn't figure out when it did and when it didn't. Even in the case that it showed the result, it didn't refresh after I compiled the same file again. Does some one help me to fix it? Thank you. Hi, in MkIV hz is bound to the found (thus the speed increase). Now, how do I assign different degrees of hz to different areas? Mojca, OK, saw your new post on: http://blog.miktex.org/post/2008/05/ConTeXt-support.aspx So, I extracted cont-tfm.zip to c:\Contet, used Miktex2.7->Settings to add it as a Root, refreshed the filename database, but the formats will still not build in Miktext2.7->Settings->Format cont-en.pdftex. Creating the cont-en.pdftex format file... Running pdftex... This is pdfTeX, Version 3.141592-1.40.4 (MiKTeX 2.7) (INITEX) entering extended mode ("C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\context\config\cont-en.ini") ! Emergency stop. <*> cont-en.ini No pages of output. Transcript written on cont-en.log. makefmt: pdftex failed on cont-en.ini. initexmf.EXE: The operation failed for some reason. And my new format attempt won't build either: ("C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\context\patterns\lang-hu.pat" ! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [pattern memory=300000]. l.1243 ^^c3^^a1h1ors No pages of output. Hello, The new context script overwrites a pdf-file when used with the --result option.
