Problem with flowchart in presentation layout

With flow.tex flow.pdf is generated. When generating again flow2.pdf is generated. (And every time it is generated again, there are 8 more blanco pages inserted.) When deleting the flowchart part in flow.tex, flow3.pdf is generated. This looks okay. So there should be something wrong with my flowchart code. But I do not see anything. What is going wrong here? Also, I would like to have the complete flowchart on my screen. Is there a way to make the room between the shapes less? -- Cecil Westerhof

Unicode Math - what it is

Dear All, sorry for a stupid question, the unicode math that is about to come means formula input using Unicode Math instead of tex commands as suggested in "Unicode Nearly Plain-Text Encoding of Mathematics" http://www.unicode.org/notes/tn28/UTN28-PlainTextMath-v2.pdf or use of the Unicode fonts with math ranges in rendering the result? BTW, what are the options for getting a unicode math font? Taking one from MS Office 2007? Waiting for Stix fonts (what happened yo them, there seems to be a delay fir yunpublihrt reason.? hello gang, after almost a year of traveling i am back. anybody missed me? :] thought so. i have made the openbsd installation of context on top of texexec3 wiki page on the context wiki because i frequently reinstall my notebook and start from scratch with all my software. i realize by now texlive is the new thing but before i make context minimal work on openbsd i still prefer to bring up to date context on the much less bloated base of tetex3. my biggest gripe at the moment always at the end the ruby scripts... but this is something that could be easily changed. i personally find the following instructions the most helpful: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TeTeX_3.0_installation#Ruby_scripts at the moment, the directory /usr/local/share/texmf-local/scripts/context/stubs/unix/ contains a bunch of scripts that are nice but unusable because 1. they dont have the x bit set 2. most of them contain something like texmfstart somescript "$@" while texmfstart itself is not defined anywhere it would be really nice if these stubs could be just dropped as replacements for any current scripts and work out of the box. i am not sure my proposed solution is a good one, because frankly, except texexec i have never used any of the other scripts.. but looking at the afore-quoted wikipage it seems to me that the author favoured the approach of calling all the other sripts using texexec. the beauty of this is that no other scripts need to be installed. so what do you people think about the following approach: stub for texmfstart to be put under /usr/local/bin/texmfstart: #!/bin/sh ruby `kpsewhich --format=texmfscripts texmfstart.rb` "$@" stub for texexe to be put under /usr/local/bin/texexec: #!/bin/sh SCRIPTNAME=`basename $0` if [ X"$SCRIPTNAME" = X"texexec" ]; then exec texmfstart texexec.rb "$@" else exec texmfstart $SCRIPTNAME "$@" fi and all the other script stubs could be removed i guess... -f -- good words cost no more than bad.

Hi, I have noticed that luatex can not handle fonts with space in their names. I haven't had this problem in the past but now it happens in the latest context minimal both on windows and linux.

Different luatex binary

Hi, I have installed the context minimal on windows and have seen a strange thing. The luatex binay in the minimal directory is only 2.5 kb but the one in the foundry.supelec.fr is 2.64 Mb zipped. Also I am not able to compile my files which I could compile them 2 month ago. The end of my log file is ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ !luaTeX error (file C:/WINDOWS/Fonts/XB Kayhan.ttf): can't find table `CFF ' ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The source file is huge but I can send it if it is necessary. new experimental

Ouput of compile

hi, is it possible to forward the output a compile to a specific directory to avoid cluttering the current dir? also do you guys know that --purgeall still leaves some output - such as bibtex - to the current dir. it would also be great if texexec could also accept which dir to get the temp files from to avoid generating them again. i know i can forward the PDF output to a specific place, but that's not the point.

left page / right page layout

Dear list, One more (last) problem regarding layout I can't resolve by myself: I've got a little booklet (2 A5 pages on one A4 sheet). The outside margins are colored in blue. I would like to color the left outside margin in yellow and keep the right outside margin in blue. I've read and tried to adapt the 'Alternative backgrounds' example on the wiki without any success. When I try to use leftpage (or rightpage) in \setupbackgrounds, the background of the whole left page is colored. layout problem

Dear list, I've got two layout problems I can't resolve by myself: * On the left pages, in the left margin, there is a white stripe. I don't really understand why. I've read on the wiki that when we describe a layout for a double page layout, the left pages layout is a mirror of the right ones. And on the right ones, there are no white stripes... * My 'printer' (the company that will print the booklet for me, not sure that the good word) asks me to provide him with a document that is 2mm larger and 2mm higher that the final one to be sure he can print precisely to the exact border of the paper. I don't want to magnify the whole document as it will maybe cut some information. Any idea on how I could achive that? Linked is the pdf output. There is also a changed CJK handler (on by default but that might change because of some overhead that it creates). Russian/Cyrillic woes - Windows XP

Hello all! I'm stuck: I have to get at least my ConTeXt to typeset Russian. No ifs or buts, it has to compile a file where the text is in Russian. Getting my ConTeXt to do it can involve installing a font or updating or something, as long as I get it to work in my XP. Preferably I should need a fairly out-of-box to remotely set up a working system on a reasonably computer-literate customers XP. All the computers than can be used for the job run Windows XP and the stand-alone distribution. My own XP has a fairly old distribution without Lua, the test computer has the newest possible standalone version with updated ConTeXt (I ran the script that seemed to do the trick). Happened this far: - I figured out that I can get SciTe to show cyrillics if I put a set.character=204 in the user.properties - I deducted that I can get the updated ConTeXt to run MkIV "out-of-the-box" if I dig up the console and command texexec --lua filename - on the up-to-date ConTeXt I've tried all the tricks I found for Russian on the garden (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Russian) and on the mailing list (a thread from December last year). No luck. (Note. Testing has mostly involved cutting and pasting the full example code into a blank .tex and compiling that into pdf in the way that's appropriate for the instructions.) One of my problems seems to be that the input is not UTF, i.e. I have configured SciTe badly. Or Windows XP just doesn't like UTF, in which case I'm in trouble. It seems to me that if this problem is solved, MkIV would work. I'm not terribly used to working with encodings in general, so UTF is unknown terrain to me and this doesn't make things easier. The other problem is that if I'm running MkII, it seems that I need to install some fonts, but typescripts seem to be of the "email me and you can get a typescript" way. Or then I just can't understand what the text says; since postscript started working by default a few years ago, I've avoided the font department altogether. :/ The third, and very minor problem, is to get the stand-alone to run MkIV/luatex by default. I'm sure there's a switch I can use to tell it to always use luatex instead of pdftex, I'm just too stupid to figure it out myself. And of course I'll only need this if MkIV is the best solution to my problem... If that will solve the problem and if it can be done with minor changes (like adding something to path or something), I'm willing to switch to a different editor for Russian (or, rather, Cyrillic) - especially if that will happily coexist with SciTe. Any hints on what to do next? Mari (Tip of the day: never promise anything to a customer before you've checked that it is doable in reality, not just in specs.)

Remove leading spaces

When a function is called, I would like to remove any leading space. Then the function can control the spacing. If I don't remove spaces, it then makes a difference whether or not I have a space before the function is called. I would like the output of the following two lines to be equal: This is a \MyFunction[1] test. This is a\MyFunction[1] test. However, they are not because the first line has a space before the function call. \def\MyFunction{\dosingleempty\doMyFunction} \def\doMyFunction[#1]{% \processaction[#1]% [1=>\medspace dog ,% 2=>\medspace cat ,% default=>\ldots]% } \starttext Test1: This is a\MyFunction[1] test. Section format using /def

I, apparently, do not understand the syntax and/or uses of /def. I am trying to make section heads appear in all caps and underlined. I originally tried to just use \setuphead, but found that I using the "textcommand" option I could only either capitalize or underline and not both. I then figured that using a macro was my next best option. Below is what I tried and it does not work. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? \def\mysectionhead{\WORD\underbar} \setuphead[section] [number=no, textcommand=\mysectionhead, style={\tfa\bf}] Thanks, Mike

Bug? thinrule in natural table & MKIV

However, when I switched to MKIV (both current and beta) I got the following error message: ! Dear Wofgang, I made a sample text by inserting space to the text which you used when you test Korean before. I used un fonts which you can download from KTUG. After you compile it using LuaTeX, you can see some overfull lines which was mentioned by Dr. DoHyun Kim. Thank you for your concern on Korean. tool for reviewing hyphenation

Hello, We have a situation where hyphenation is an issue, due to a 2-column layout where the columns are not very wide. We've done a lot of tweaking of settings for hyphenation and interword spacing, and the result seems pretty good. In particular, there are not many cases of consecutive lines that end with hyphens, and not many cases where a hyphenation occurs over a right-hand page break. The few cases that exist, we have been fixing manually by using \hbox{...} to prevent hyphenation at the trouble spot. But the hyphenation is by nature somewhat volatile, so whenever we change something we would like to be able to easily recheck the hyphenation. And our book is over 1200 pages, so it would be very helpful to have tools to make the checking more efficient. One tool we found was the "evince" PDF viewer in Linux, which highlights all search results at once. So you can search for "-", and it will highlight all hyphens, which makes it easier to scan the PDF visually for hyphenation problems. Still, this approach has its limitations... our layout domain experts don't have Linux machines, and I haven't found a PDF viewer for Windows that can highlight all search results at once. Another approach we wondered about was having TeX highlight the hyphenations... e.g. changed the background color to yellow or red, when outputting a word that's dynamically broken/hyphenated. (Rather like we have TeX output red grid lines to help with debugging layout.) I think we would also want to highlight static hyphens that occur at the end of a line, as in "Niger- Congo," because they have a similar visual impact. Possibly using a different color. This would be an ideal solution, I think, but we don't know how to have TeX detect when a word gets dynamically hyphenated. Another possibility we've looked into is using javascript in Adobe Reader to find and highlight end-of-line (and end-of-page) hyphens. But this approach has proved more difficult than expected... the API and the DOM are complex, and I haven't figured out yet how to access the text of the document to search for hyphens. (The "search" method seems to just go to the first or next occurence, and highlight only one occurrence at a time.) Thanks for any help, Lars

Dear Wofgang, I made a sample text by inserting space to the text which you used when you test Korean before. I used un fonts which you can download from KTUG. After you compile it using LuaTeX, you can see some overfull lines which was mentioned by Dr. DoHyun Kim in the previous mail. Thank you for your concern on Korean. When to migrate from MKII to MKIV?

Hi all, I've been using ConTeXt for a few years and I'm curious about whether it is worth migrating to MKIV (I've just re-read the mk.pdf document). Here are the features I often use: - Postscript fonts... I have typescripts setup for the fonts I bought (full versions of Utopia, Minion, Warnock, and a few compatible sans fonts). I believe I can get these as open-type as well if needed. - Bibliography via \usemodule[bib] - Chemistry via \usemodule[chemic] - Inclusion of PDF figures using an XML Figure database, i.e. \usemodule[fig-base] - Equations (with the multiline and alignment macros) using Fourier/Utopia including the bold math modifications in the MyWay document. - Tables (tabulate, natural, linetable) The questions I have: 1) Do all of the above work in MKIV? 2) How much of a pain is it to switch to MKIV? Do I need to rework my fonts/typescripts? Will all my current environments (setups, macros and one-line definitions) work? 3) Beyond speed and better font support, does it offer anything else to me? For the most part, I'm content with MKII and wonder if it is really worth the effort to move to MKIV. Perhaps the sample is skewed, but after reading the mailing list I get the impression that the current experimental/beta MKIV has a number of bugs and is not particularly feature complete when compared to MKII.

Determing if the argument is one character or not

Hi, I want to write a macro which behaves differently depending on whether its argumet is a single character or not. \MACRO[a] should give $X_{a}$ \MACRO[a:b] should give $X_{[a:b]}$ Any hints on how to do this? Thanks, Aditya

footnote inside footnote

How to get a second level footnote that is typeset with it own numbering, some thing like: Main text body[1] has two footnotes[2]. ------ 1. First level footnote[1] 2. Another one ------ 1. Something a little more high-level than the release notes and this mailing list ;) Thank you to everyone who contribute here. I often find myself amazed at the speed at which ConTeXt develops and very much look forward to the end of font voodoo as promised by MKIV.

Error with TrueType flavor OpenType fonts with .otf extension

I came across an OpenType font with TrueType outline that had an .otf extension, attempting to use it gave me this error: !luaTeX error (file /home/khaled/.fonts/UthmanTN1_Ver06.otf): can't find table `CFF ' ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! Reading OpenType specification, I see that it allows this: * In all cases, fonts with only CFF data (no TrueType outlines) always have an .OTF extension. * Fonts containing TrueType outlines may have either .OTF or .TTF, depending on the desire for backward compatibility on older systems or with previous versions of the font. TrueType Collection fonts should have a .TTC extension whether or not the fonts have OpenType layout tables present. Page number not updating in layer

I am trying to use a layer to insert a page number in my document, but the page always displays page number 1. It seems nothing that I have tried has worked. I also don't know how to exclude the first page from the total number of pages count.
