Hi ConTeXt ComRaDes, Trying to design a travelogue book with photos on the left page, and text on the right. Tried \startopposite to get an opposite block, and turned it on with \setupoppositeplacing[state=start], to no discernable effect. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to do this? epstopdf oddity?

Dear All, I have some small diagrams I created with MetaPost in 2005. Just recently I wanted to re-run the build of the PDF. It produced a PDF but the typography looks awful. so I compared (diff) with the previous intermediate files and found that the EPS files produced by the mpost run are identical up to timestamps and that it's only the last step epstopdf that uglifies the output. I'm suspecting the fault to be with the ghostscript or the font installation. Maybe someone here has seen this and knows the fix? One of the diagrams is below. Logos of Context (context-free-design github repo)

Hi all of you, After aproving of Taco and Mojca, I announce that I start a repository of ConTeXt logos: http://github.com/somenxavi/context-free-designs/ Now it has only the Taco logo that reproduce the contextgarden logo, but it's open to anyone who wants to put in any logo. Just send me the file. The only condition is that the license were free (public domain, Creative Commons, ....) I plan to put the logos in this repo in a Spreadshirt/Cafepress shop that I want to open in a medium time. But the main intention is to have a collection of ConTeXt logos freely distributable. Once I open the shop, the intention is not to earn money, else that "fans" of ConTeXt could have their t-shirts, cofee cups, .... . Surely I donor the few dolars I win to NTG, CTAN or something else. die if a module is missing

I was recently debugging some presentation that I was working on in ConTeXt and found, to my surprise, that the problem was that I was using \usemodule[blah-blah] but there was no such module called blah-blah. The output does indeed say that there was no such module, but I didn't see that. Is there a way to set up modules so that, if a module isn't found, an error is generated and the TeX run is stopped? XeTeX font feature selection

What is the correct way of selecting a font and using OpenType features? I have tried \definetypeface[linlib][rm][Xserif][Linux Libertine][features=oldstyle] \setupbodyfont[linlib, 12pt] but the output prints Computer Modern (and not with old-style numerals). The font seems to work without the "features=oldstyle", but I am not sure how to select the font and some OpenType features. I don't seem to be able to find any documentation. John

Hi Hans, I discovered two problems with the beta. 1. \typescriptone is ignored in the typescripts and many fonts (e.g. can't be used) \starttypescript [termes,times] \definetypeface [\typescriptone] [rm] [serif] [termes] [default] \stoptypescript 2. off topic: page numbering question

Hi, my question is not directly related to context, so please excuse. In my document I have even before the abstract the summary in 2 languages. Then the TOC (table of contents), then list of symbols which is followed by the introduction. But where do I start with page number 1? - at the very beginning? - at the TOC (earlier pages get then numbered I, II, III, ... - at the introduction? A last question, is it common to add the two summaries in the TOC or to start with the "list of symbols"? Or are there no rules at all and I can do it as I like? Best regards Wolfgang

problem with two columns on a page

Hi, I'm typesetting a dictionary using \startcolumns[n=2,balance=yes] to get balanced columns. I have 26 balanced columns with simple headers in between and a lot of situations with two columns on one page. (see example). As long as the number of lines of the first columns (AA) is fewer than a certain value around 20 the next columns (BB) will be placed on the same page, but if there are more lines from the first columns they push the second columns to the next page. Is there a way to control this behavior, I would like to be able to keep this second columns starting on this page even if there are only 5 lines of text available for it. New beta

Hi all, the new beta has been so quietly accepted that I'm wondering if I'm the only one who can't use it. Installing custom fonts?

Hello List, I'm also part of the design group Open Source Publishing (like Femke who ask about same entry to multiple registers a month ago). Our book is building, and it's now time to add our own custom open fonts. Quite new in the TeX field, and having traveled a bit through LaTex and Xetex, I couln't figure how to make it work. I guess that the TeX way of doing it is to write a map file, but maybe is it possible to avoid it, like with the Xetex shortcut? I'm using texexec or texexec --xtx to compile my files (without problems) on Ubuntu Gutsy. I'm also able to use the font in other software, Inkscape by example. Command "show" in Metapost/Metafun

Hi, I am trying to learn Metapost using Context. I tried a few examples for drawing things and they worked well. But the "show" command does not seem to work. For example, the code \startuseMPgraphic{GridDots} u=1cm; pickup pencircle scaled 8pt for i = 0 upto 2: for j = 0 upto 2: draw (i*u,j*u); endfor endfor \stopuseMPgraphic \useMPgraphic{GridDots} from John Hobby's manual works great. However, the following code gives no output in the PDF file. Hi! Long time no post. Anyway, I’m writing a document where I’m using abbreviations. In neither --lua nor --xtx do I get a list of abbreviations with \completelistofabbreviations. The bookmark text is \headtext {abbreviations} for both. With --pdf I get a list of abbreviations and the bookmark text is abbreviations. Official diary of countries, EU, regions, etc.

Hi, I have to use BIBTEX for putting official diary entries (for example the official diary of EU: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/JOIndex.do?ihmlang=en) Typically it has Title, Day, Month, Year, Number of Entry, Type of diary (Official diary of EU, Boletín Oficial del Estado (boe.es), ...). I want to bibtex display this items, like "title", type of diary (day, month, year). Number of entry. How can I achieve this? With options, I think @misc is the best option, but I don't know how to put and format this items. Thanks a lot, Xan.

Simplified input for natural tables

Hi Hans, natural tables are perfect to create tables with a fixed size for the cells but the syntax requires sometimes a lot of typing for small content and takes to many lines of code in the document. I wrote a while ago a simple wrapper to use a table/tabulate like syntax for the input, what I don't like is to load a extra module for just a few lines of code and I think they can be integrated in the core-ntb code. Design for Translation

Hi, I am wondering how best to go about creating an evolving document that will need translation. This is a manual that will probably need to be produced - and maintained - in around 6 languages. For what it is worth, I have come up with two approaches, which follow. Hello, I have problems with typesetting of matrices with delimiters. I need the same functionality like in the following LaTeX example: \begin{displaymath} \left(\begin{array}{c|c} 1 & 2 \\ \hline 3 & 4 \end{array}\right) \end{displaymath} but in ConTeXt I can't find method how to do that. The second one complains publications : loading database from bibtry.bbl (bibtry.bbl ! PDF grayscale conversion (OT)

I have used to ConTeXt to generate a hefty PDF file with b/w text and color images. Is there a way to convert this file to a PDF file with b/ w text and grayscale images (256 shades)? I know I could always convert the images first and then reset the book, but I was wondering if there was a simpler more direct way before I start doing that. (There are over 70 images.) Best, Alan

Hello again, Sorry for asking so many questions at a time, but i'm really intrigued. I have Samsung ML-1615 laser printer. When I print an MS Word document typesetted in Times New Roman, the printer uses internal (hardware) font resource, and hardcopy is very smooth and nice. When I print a pdf generated by ConTexT, the same font becomes rasterized and looks a bit ragged on a paper. Is there a way to instruct Acrobat and printer that I use authentic Time New Roman? Hello, I have a problem to get consistent row spacing in TABLEs when the whitespace in the document is set to any other than 'none'.
