I discovered that nothing has changed for last month -- the result is exactly the same for luatex 0.35 and 0.37, as well as respective ConTeXt builds. Two demo images are attached. Dear all, I'm trying to make a dissertation template for our university. The cover of the template has many underlines. It's so hard to do with those underlines with ConTeXt. I attached two files. One is "cover.tex" which designing coverage. The other is "main.pdf" which is the output file that is the most closing one to my expectation. I can only use the \underline command without MPgraphic, but it will draw lines too close to the text lines. The most wried thing is that if I use all the three MPgraphic defined underline, the vertical positions of underlines will be wrong and some underlines will not be drawn. The other problems are: - The English title is longer than the underline. I tried to figure out the reason, but in some other tex files, the problem is gone. I cannot reproduce it. - I don't know how to make the last two parts at the bottom of the coverage centered. I tried the following way but nothing happened. \definefloat[centered][table] \setupfloat[centered][default={none}] \placecentered{here,always,none}{} How can I make those underline acting as predicted? hi there, what would be the equivalent of the following \startnarrower[2*left,0*right] \stopnarrower using \setupnarrower ? my problem is that \setupnarrower takes dimensions, while \startnarrower takes... i am not sure what actually... \startnarrower[..,...,..] ... \stopnarrower ... n*left n*middle n*right and why does e.g. \setupnarrower[left=4em, right=0pt] still have a right side "margin" -f -- i quit drinking/smoking/& sex once. very boring 15 minutes.

Multiple Page Backgrounds

I have a need for multiple repeating page backgrounds: an imported PDF document and one or more dynamically generated items that are layered on top. I've found a discussion in the archives from January 2006, but it hasn't helped. \setupbackgrounds[page][background=Letterhead,DisclaimerWatermark,SignatureBlock,DocumentStatus] doesn't work, only the last layer defined shows (each of the dynamic backgrounds is defined as a layer.) Does the plural in setupbackgrounds not mean multiple backgrounds? If so, is there a stacking order (the imported PDF letterhead may have an opaque background)? Also, the first document page requires a table and text block side-by-side. I probably could use a float for the text block, but wanted to use a layer. Am I approaching this the wrong way? -- david

Multi-line headers

I need a multi-line header in the right page corner, with content right-aligned. \setupheadertexts[nothing on left][line 1 \par line 2] doesn't work. Is using a \vbox the correct method of handling this? If so, how? \setupheadertexts[nothing on left][\vbox{line 1 \blank line 2] puts the header in the left corner. -- david

Hi folks, I would use TikZ/mindmap to make some figures for a paper. Since I have to install TikZ, I have updated my minimals yesterday and began to really use MKIV. how to make a coverpage?

Hi, I'm experimenting with context for a few weeks now and am impressed by its possibilities and clean results. However, everything I want to try out seems to take a lot of trial and error to get right. Especially creating a titlepage for a book, a backgound picture covering the entire page with some text on it -- I cannot for the life of me figure out how it's done. Even after googling many hours and perusing the manuals. I've tried permutations of layers, overlays and setupbackgrounds within and without {start/stop}standardmakeup -- nothing quite does it. Can somebody please show me a simple example of how to create a book cover with a picture covering the entire page and a title text on it? Thanks in advance, Trychius

Group together figure and table

I am trying to find a way to group together a table which lists values in a figure that I have. I would also like to keep seperate references for each so I would rather not use a combination. I saw the \begingroup command while searching through the wiki, but I was unable to determine what it does and it doesn't seem to do what I need. I also tried to setup a buffer, but that didn't ensure that the table and figure were displayed sequentially. Is there a way to do this while keeping both references intact? Thanks. Mike

Setting the Non-Printable Area

Hi @all, i like to include a logo on the top-right-edge on every page in my Document. The pagesize is A4, but our printer could not print into the first 5mm from the borders. Now the Logo get's cut on the top and on the right side while printing. Flow Charts

I find the chart module great, it provides good results when typesetting flow charts in many cases. However, sometimes when defining connection lines the automatic routing feature is not able to find an optimal route and lines intersect. I was wondering if there is an alternate way to define a particular path for a specific connection. Instead of letting the module doing that connection I would rather let it undefined and use some metapost commands to do it. Is there an easy way to do it keeping the lines and arrows setup?. Thanks!

Bug with "Adobe Arabic" font kerning

The font seems to have a buggy (too big) GPOS kerning table (it does cause fontforge to hang writing the font). If 'kern' is set to 'yes', I get this error: ...text/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/node-inj.lua:62: attempt to index local 'kb' (a nil value) I had to put if..then around that line to suppress the error, may be some checks are needed for such broken fonts. P.S. Hello, I might be dreaming already, but on last Tuesday (I don't know which version though) this code kept generating orange balls in ConTeXt MKII: \shade[ball color=red!40!yellow] (0,0) circle (.15cm); Now I get a black one. Has anything with respect to color handling mechanisms changed in ConTeXt MKII or TikZ recently? ConTeXt MKIV properly generates an orange ball (usually only mkiv fails, so I'm a bit confused now :). I'm using ConTeXt 2009.03.30 18:28 and TikZ 2009-04-03. New module simpleslides

Dear list members, We're happy to announce the initial release of the simpleslides module. It has taken us somewhat longer than we anticipated, but now it's there! simpleslides is a module that facilitates the creation of presentations in ConTeXt. It provides a few macros to position titles, text, and images on slides, some typescripts to make use of LatinModern and the TeXGyre fonts, and a few pre-defined styles that should make your presentations visually appealing. We guarantee that this release is absolutely bug-free; whoever finds a bug has the inalienable right to buy us a beer at the next ConTeXt meeting! Seriously: we are aware that some things are not working as expected. Our biggest and most embarrassing problem for the time being is that the module refuses to work with XeTeX. Neither of us uses XeTeX on a regular basis, and we're not familiar with its innards, so we're at a loss here. If you can offer help, you will be most welcome! Arabic shaping

Currently 'font-ota.lua' hard codes the Arabic shaping properties,and it doesn't seem to be complete (e.g. the ڤ as in أڤاست is not joined), I think such information belong to 'char-def.lua' and should be derived from UCD, which provide 'ArabicShaping.txt[1]', covering Arabic, Syriac and N'Ko scripts which all need the same shaping as Arabic. How to set a background for the current page only? \setupbackgrounds sets backgrounds for all pages, I don't seem to find a way to turn it on/off for certain pages (\setupbackgrounds[state=start/stop] has no effect). \restoreglobalbodyfont messes up superscripts

I was originally trying to make the font inside a table smaller, and when I was trying things out, I ran into a problem with \restoreglobalbodyfont changing the font size of my superscripts from what it was before the command was issued. I really just want to make the font inside my table smaller, but I don't know how to "turn off" a formating command like \tfxx. I originally thought that was what \par was for, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I then tried \restoreglobalbodyfont, but started running into my issues. Can anyone give me any help with this issue? Hi, I want the labels as (0.5,0.55,0.6,0.65,0.7,...,1) or (0.50,0.55,0.60,0.65,0.70,...,1). Either of these two is fine. I use predefine typing environment (verbatim) If I use predefine environment for C code, \startC #include <stio.h> int main(){ return 0; } \stopC the compiler report error. Strange extra page with xetex ...

Hi @all, when i'm using XeTeX (texexec --xtx bla.tex) to create my document I'm getting an extra first page aug PDF output containing the chars "sss e" ... I'm using ConTeXt Minimals (TeXExec | version 6.2.1 - 1997-2009 - PRAGMA ADE/POD). Is this a known Problem? Is there a fix for it? I'm not having this Problem when using LuaTeX or pdfTeX ... Hello everybody, This message is to inform you all that as of today, I am no longer an employee of Elvenkind BV, the company where I have worked for during the past years. Working for Elvenkind has been a pleasure, but it has always been hard for Elvenkind to find enough commercial projects to employ me in. Even the recent (much appreciated!) funded TeX-development projects simply do not generate enough revenue for Elvenkind to make it viable to keep me as an employee in the current economic climate. This is not the best time to be out of a job, but nevertheless I have decided to try to make the most of it an attempt to make an old dream happen: being my own boss. Since quite some time already I have had a private company called Bittext that I use for various bits and pieces that simply did not fit in with Elvenkind's company strategy (its original intent was to place my font development work in that company, but it has also been used as the company behind organizing the ConTeXt Epen meeting in 2007, for example). For the development of luatex and metapost, I do not expect that much to change compared to the current situation: Hans and I will continue to write funding proposals and we hope that enough of those will be granted so that I can keep that development work going much like it is. (about a 50% commitment working on these two programs in an average working week). However, for ConTeXT and other TeX-related things, the situation is a bit more problematic. Pragma ADE does not have money to fund any projects, even if I managed to find something to excite Hans that he couldn't do faster himself ;). To find the missing source of income, I intend to start giving commercial ConTeXt courses and I plan to start selling manuals via lulu. Perhaps there is a bit of consultancy that can be found as well, and I will try to regain some of my old mathematical typesetting clients. But I fear that even all of that together will generate enough income for me to continue developing modules and offering help for free. Therefore, the planned bib module replacement will be released as commercial software, and support for other ConTeXT stuff (like the current bib module) will become a paid service. Probably via a subscription website, that will (for example) also host my release notes. I am brooding on other ConTeXt module ideas that people may be willing to pay for, and I will finish the font projects that are still on my disk for sale via my website. This April (until around BachoTeX) I will still be busy preparing the luatex and metapost binaries for the TeXlive 2009 deadline, but after that I will likely drop offline for a while, creating the Bittext website ( http://www.bittext.com ) and figuring out things like how to be on the receiving end of Lulu and PayPal. Well, that is about all I wanted to say right now. I am quite apprehensive about how this news will fall in the ConTeXT community, but I see no other way. And I must admit that at the same time I am quite excited about being "in control of my own destiny", as they say! Best wishes to all of you, Taco

Using --mode or --modes with texexec sets up modes which can be used in the files to parse different parts. For that I use \doifmodeelse{}{}{} But combining various modes in one \doiffmodeelse would be handy. e.g. (pseudocode) if mode is workinprogress or test or the other way around if mode is all or editor So I would like something like \doifmodeselse{all,editor) or even better booleans \doiffmodeselse{not test or editor} so I do not need to build a large setup of nested \ifmodeelse This is not in ConTeXt currently. Would it be easy to program such a multiple modes selector? G

MetaPost graphics with TRT direction

MPost graphics inside TRT direction are placed incorrectly overlapping the text on the right, similar to what we had with \pdfximage (see the attached PDF). This seems to be unrelated to images issue since MPost graphics are inserted as \pdfliteral. I'm not sure if this an engine or macro issue, but I'm guessing the later. Changing the \startMPLIBtoPDF so that the \hbox where the graphics is placed is fixed to TLT direction fixes this, but I'm not sure if it is safe to do so.
