Hi, I created the attached PDF file using ConTeXt. As you can see I have a green background, which covers the whole page. However, when I took it to the printer today and he printed two copies for me, there was some white space left at four ends. The amount of space above, below, to the left and to the right was different. Here is my preamble. Can you suggest what I can do so that the whole page has the chosen green background color. Natural tables with \placetable

Can anyone tell me why this table example is placed on the left margin on the first page and the right margin on subsequent pages? Hi Hans, Your yesterday's beta impressed me once more with the speed at which you fix the reported bugs… Thanks so much! Today I noticed something wrong with \setuparranging in mkiv, which may be due to the fact that the pagenumbering mechanisms have changed and I don't know yet the new structures: if this is the case please disregard this "bug" report. Hi, I like to have the same environments in ConTeXt like in amsthm LaTeX. With defineenumeration I did emulate thm and others, but now I trying to have something like demostration. problems with bibliography

Bonjour, I am using the bib and bibltx modules to manage the bibliography of my articles. All was fine up to just recently where no more reference seems to be made any more in my current writing (half the article is OK). The \cite command return empty brackets [] (even when I wrote the wrong reference, there usually always had a number) and no new line is created in the \placepublications[criterium=all] command (or \completepublications for that matter). Things seem to be done properly though. I am running ConTeXt ver: 2008.05.21 Would anybody have a clue on what is going on? Thanks, Nicolas Luchier

Files for verbatim output of Python source, zc.buildout and Apache config files

Hello, I'm using MKIV and needed syntax highlighting for a few source and config files. I read on the Wiki and on this list that it should be pretty easy to do this in Lua and although I never wrote anything in Lua I just tried it. Maybe the result will be of use for somebody so I'm posting them to this list. I read on the Wiki that the best place for putting custom formatter files would be the context distribution or http://modules.contextgarden.net but as I'm pretty sure that some stuff is missing and I'm sure there are some bugs included I'm just posting them here. Would it be OK to put the files in a section on the Wiki to start something like a repository for verb-*.lua files where it would be easy to extend and correct them? I have created verb-*.lua files for pretty printing Python source code Apache http.conf and zc.buildout config files. For the zc.buildout files I used a simple solution and just defined the keywords that appear in a standard Plone buildout.cfg file. I hope to finish two additional verbatim files for XML and Shell scripts in the next days. As I don't have any experience in writing Lua code I chose to use the tex/context/base/verb-*.lua and the verb-cpp.lua files posted by Shen Chen in http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20081002.173802.460c46fe.en.html) for a start. Additionally I used the vim syntax files and the official Apache documentation. Here is an overview of what is covered: The verb-apa.lua file distinguishes between the following five states: - declarations - strings - sections (like <Directory> and </Directory>) - comments - options The verb-py.lua file distinguishes between the following five states: - all statements, repeats, conditionals and operators - strings (multi line comment wit ''' or """ are supported) - preconditions (import, from, as) - comments - builtins The verb-py.cfg file distinguishes between the following four states: - sections - variables - keywords - comments I've attached a minimal test file to show how they work. Hello, I have a problem with synonyms in recent context betas: At the first occurrence of a synonym in a document there is an additional horizontal white space in front of the synonym. The space does not show up in further occurrences. problems with TeX Gyre/t2a/sc

Hello Hans, there's a tiny problem with the following line(s) in type-one (if we neglect the fact that Cyrilic is a bit problematic with Gyre anyway): \starttypescript [serif,sans,mono] [adventor,bonum,bookman,cursor,courier,heros,helvetica,pagella,palatino,schola,schoolbook,termes,times] [ec,texnansi,cs,qx,rm,t5,t2a,t2b,t2c,l7x] \definefontsynonym [\typescriptprefix{n:\typescripttwo}-Caps] [\typescriptthree-q\typescriptprefix{f:\typescripttwo}r-sc] [encoding=\typescriptthree] There are no t2a fonts with small caps defined, so simple usage like \usetypescript[times][t2a] \setupbodyfont[times] generates arrors. The combinations of small caps & t2* encodings simply don't exist and these combinations should better be removed. Mojca

Problem: Arrows in math mode etc.

Hi everybody, I've got problems with typesetting binomial coefficients and arrows in math mode on ConTeXt ver: 2009.03.27 08:00 MKIV on Win Vista. Binomial coefficients: The brackets stay small (usual size like in plain text), here's my code: starttext startformula {achoose b} stopformula stoptext In fact, it seems atopwithdelims() isn't working because the problem can be fixed by adding delimiterfactor=1001 defbinom#1#2{left(#1 atop #2right)} starttext startformula binom{a}{b} stopformula stoptext The second problem is much more bothering to me because I can't typeset limits in right way - the arrow under the "lim" is omitted (both ways fail): starttext startformula lim_{trightarrow 0}f(x) stopformula startformula lim_{tto 0}f(x) stopformula stoptext The commands leftarrow, longrightarrow, longleftarrow etc. aren't working too. On the other hand, uparrow works just fine. Please, tell me what I'm supposed to do to fix it up. Or is it a bug in this version? Thanks a lot, Tomas

Keep text elements together

Hi all. I'm writing a Multiple Choice test set in two-columns. I would like to keep the multiple-choice items together with the question both on the same page AND on the same column. Question 1 Question 3 choice 1 choice 1 choice 2 choice 2 choice 3 choice 3 Question 2 Question 4 choice 1 choice 1 choice 2 choice 2 choice 3 choice 3 (Apologies, it's easier to draw than describe). So I don't want the multiple choices breaking to another page or going to another column. How can I achieve this? I tried setting the "intro" flag of itemize but it doesn't work. Here's what I did: \item[columns] ... \item Question \startitemize[intro] \item choice \item choice ... \stopitemize ... \stopitemize but the multiple-choice items would still break across pages and columns F

How to set a layout shown in the attachment png file?

Dear all, I attached a PNG file to show the layout that I want. I want the text part narrowed and right aligned. I tried the following settings: \setuplayout [backspace=20mm, topspace=20mm, height=257mm, width=170mm, %textwidth=115mm, header=10mm, footer=0mm, rightmargin=0mm, leftmargin=25mm, leftmargindistance=-25mm,] The problem is that text is too wide. Hi Hans, the bad news is that transparent colors don't work at all in the latest beta with mkiv (they worked on and off with the beta before that). Hello, Files produced by the latest beta have smaller size then those compiled at the beginning of the year. For example, typical lyrics documents shrinked from ~20Kb to ~14Kb each. It's nice. I just wonder -- is it connected with font subsets embedding ? Best, Vyatcheslav

TeXLive 2008 + ConTeXt problems (on Gentoo Linux)

Hullo, it's been a while since I used ConTeXt (I simply didn't have to write any documents), but now that I upgraded to TeXLive 2008 I noticed that ConTeXt is giving me gripes. 'context test.tex' produces: MtxRun | error unable to identify cnf file MtxRun | error unable to identify cnf file MtxRun | no cnf files found (TEXMFCNF may not be set/known) MtxRun | unknown script: context 'texexec test.tex' actually produces a PDF. 'luatex test.tex' starts asking questions: This is LuaTeX, Version snapshot-0.30.3-2009041418 (Web2C 7.5.7) (test.tex ! Undefined control sequence. l.1 \starttext ? ...and later on produces a completely messed up PDF 'luatools --generate' produces: LuaTools | error unable to identify cnf file LuaTools | error unable to identify cnf file LuaTools | no cnf files found (TEXMFCNF may not be set/known) LuaTools | LuaTools | runtime: 0.046 seconds I'm sure there's a step I missed in the upgrade, but I have no idea what. I've already tried a few things from the Wiki, which I think resulted in 'texexec' actually working, but the rest is still foo. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Table macro alternatives

Is alignmentcharacter available in table macros other than natural tables? I would prefer to use natural tables but absolutely require a footer at the bottom of the table on every page. The footer doesn't need to contain columns - it can be a box the width of the table. Any suggestions on achieving this using natural tables? -- david

how to use attachment file as a script argument

based on the example of use mplayer play the movie, I write down sthing like >\defineprogram[sample.data][sample.data.sh] >\goto{\externalfigure[sample.data][width=0.48\textwidth]}[program(sample.data{})] and the content of sample.data.sh is >#!/bin/bash > FILE=$(basename "$0"); gnome-terminal -e "cat ${FILE/.sh/}" it does work, but I wanna know if there are better way to make this. as this way has some obvious problem: 1. if I send this pdf file to other guy, the script won't execute, as it can't find out the sample.data file. same thing will happen if I move my sample.data to other directory. 2. it's take too much effort if I have lots of file to analysis, I have to write lots of file like sample.data1.sh, sample.data2.sh... with same content, soft link maybe a solution, but I hope there are more easy solution.

How to update Context on Windows (with Texlive 2008)

I have TeXLive 2008 installed on Windows (on a path with no spaces). I wanted to update ConTexT, so ran the following commands (using cygwin), following instructions from wiki rsync -av rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/current/context/current/ /cygdrive/c/texlive/2008/texmf-dist/ which ran fine. However the next command rsync -av rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/current/bin/luatex/win32/bin/luatex /cygdrive/c/texlive/2008/bin/win32/ fails, producing rsync: change_dir "/current/bin/luatex/win32" (in minimals) failed: No such file or directory So the question is, how do I update the ConTexT and luatex for windows (TeXLive installation)? Note that, luatools --generate generates no cnf files found message. Regards Abhishek

colored backgrounds in displayed math

In displayed math I was trying to highlight a piece of a formula using a gray background. After a few spacing failures with \framed, I discovered \mframed in the core-rul.tex source file. The comments there say: %D As usual, one can specify in what way the text should be %D framed. One should be aware of the fact that, inorder to %D preserve the proper spacing, the \type {offset} is set to %D \type {overlay} and \type {frameoffset} is used used %D instead. Actually, hyph-uk is Ukrainain. And the corresponding file is missed in the distribution, so simply changing mtx-patterns.lua will not help. Vyatheslav

Hi all, Hans, I get no hyphenation for ancient Greek with the latest beta (and, as I have seen, a couple of betas before that). Hi, I uploaded a new beta. Last week(ends) fixes are merged in. There is also an experimental plain version (luatex-plain.tex which you can rename to luatex.tex if needed). That gives you a plain tex with stripped down context mkiv font support (only the minimal amount of lua files are loaded). Some more info (also about generating the related font database) can be found in in luatex-fonts.tex. Of course it's no replacement or context but it seems to work ok (we occasionally need plain tex for testing). It's also not related to the upcoming layered context (aka metatex). mtxrun --noquotes on windows

Hi, It seems that mtxrun --noquotes behaves differently on windows and linux. Can someone on windows (who has vim) check the following. Run mtxrun --noquotes bin:vim "-u NONE -c \"set tabstop=8\" test.tex" You will enter in vim. Press :qa! to exit vim. What does the output on the terminal say? On my linux machine, I get MTXrun | executing: vim -u NONE -c "set tabstop=8" test.tex Andy Wong tested it on windows and he gets MTXrun | executing: vim -u NONE -c "set tabstop=8" "test.tex Notice the spurious " before test.tex. This causes t-vim to fail on windows. Do others on windows get the same behavour? I do not see a reason why mtxrun should behave differently on linux and windows. Thanks, Aditya

Hello, I have tried the example using the vim mode to typeset some c codes. When I run the sample file, context stop with errors. the sample file and log file as list below. I use the windowsXP with the minimal context from ConTeXt garden and \write18 is enabled. Weird interline spacing

In the attached file, loading the font with \setupbodyfont gives narrower interline spacing than with font (you have to comment out the \setupbodyfont line to see this), I'm not sure if this is normal, but the first case gives different interline spaces from line to line. xetex and attachment: troubles

Dear all, I'm using xetex with fun (as suggested and discussed on the mailing list). I'm revising a previously created document which used attachment command. If I use XeConTeXt (--> texexec --xtx) the file is not attached (there's the marker, a link is diplayed, but Acrobat says that there's no attachment). As far as I can say, the problem seems to depend on --xtx switch, Any hints?
