More numbering trouble with blocks

Dear all, when pairing exercises with recalled solution blocks it seems that both are numbered consecutively but independently. When I don't give a solution to an exercise, the subsequent solution numbers are incorrect. What is the proper way to deal with this? Manipulate the counter in the exercises without answers somehow? spaces in file names

I would like to include a file with spaces in its name. Clearly it does not work using: \input /Users/me/dir with spaces/file I can use something like: \def\DataDirectory#1{\def\DATADIRECTORY{#1/}} % in reality coping with empty #1 \DataDirectory{/Users/me/dir with spaces} \def\Input#1{\input "\DATADIRECTORY#1"} and then that file is read. When however I want to set this directory with \setupexternalfigures[directory=\DATADIRECTORY] it does not find the picture file there. How can I accomplish the setup? Do I miss something? Hyperlinks in the table of contents/ Mark IV

Dear all, it appears that the hyperlinks from the section numbers in the table of contents to the actual sections have disappeared in Mark IV. coloring rules

ConTeXt ver: 2010.01.19 23:29 MKIV fmt: 2010.1.20 int: english/ english Coloring hrule's and vrule's with \color[aColor]{\vrule heightdepthwidth} works only if aColor is one of the standardcolors like red, blue, gray, etc. But defining other colors don't color the rule \definecolor[mygray][r=. 6,g=.7,b=.7]\color[mygray]{\vrule heightdepthwidth} typesets the rule in black, not in mygray. The strange is that the lines around \framed[framecolor=mygray] do get colored correctly. How can I accomplish the general coloring of vrule's and hrule's? Hans van der Meer

Speed of texexec with Unicode TrueType Font

All- Apologies if the question should go to another list - let me know if so. I am using texexec with MSPMincho on a Japanese utf-8 document. I followed the instructions and it appears to work well. Texexec runs several passes, and on each pass spends a *long* time integrating each font "page". I get many lines saying: {<path to enc>/MSPMinchoXX.enc}<<path to tt>/MSPMincho.ttf> The time taken in this process is many times that of the rest of the conversion. The resulting PDF font properties lists "MS-PMincho (Embedded Subset), Type: TrueType, Encoding: Built-in" 75 times. I imagine that I am glad that the whole font is not included (for file size). Multiple text flows

Hi, My book needs to have two separate texts for two different audiences. I get the inspiration from http://books.google.co.in/books?id=qdltz8N9qSEC&lpg=PP1&dq=the%20body%20mul…. Here the author is separating each page on two parts. The top text is descriptive while lower text is literature research relating to the upper text. I want to have one text flowing on right page and another on left. However, they are interconnected i.e. parallel. So there needs to be an anchoring mechanism so that on each right-left page couple they are talking about the same thing. I am new to ConText but not shy of programming. Strange Behaviour / Strange Memory effect when creating pdf charts with the chart module in context

Dear All I am experiencing a strange problem with the chart module using context on ubuntu. this module allows for the creating of nice flow charts! however when creating the flow chart from the source code with texexec --pdf chart.tex the resultiong pdf file sometimes shows information that is not in the tex file but was in a previous version of it, i.e. some kind of a wierd memoery effect is present I am wondering, where does context keep its cache. In order to debug this problem I installed context on another ubuntu box and when freshly installed , i.e. for the first call of texexec the result was fine. however any subsequent call will again create unpredictable effects. simpleslides - no macros found errors

I am a new user of simpleslides. Linux 2.6.21 kernel, Slackware 12.0, teTeX installed latest version of t-simpleslides via t-simpleslides.zip in /usr/share/texmf tree Executed: mktexlsr confirmed: appearance of t-simpleslides.tex in /usr/share/texmf/ls-R confirmed: path via kpsewhich t-simpleslides.tex copied: speaker_introduction-2min.tex to my HOME directory, and tried to compile it. Got the following errors: system : no macros found in module style=Boxed system : macros of module font=Bookman already loaded ... ... ... ! Undefined control sequence. l.29 \SlideTitle {Speaker's Name} ? Incidentally, context system itself is running OK. Am I missing something? Or, doing something silly? Help requested. Thanks.

Hi, I'm working on three-column document and I would like to put symbols a bit closer to text (but still leave them in margin). Is there an option that does it? Questions regarding simplefonts

Hi again, although simplefonts seems very promising and I put the highest hopes on it, the lack of proper documentation simply prevents me to use it, which is somewhat frustrating. Here are some of my unanswered questions about simplefonts ; I'm willing to update the wiki with any informations this thread could bring. 1) How can I specify that the default font features should enable the standard ligatures (liga) ? I blindly tried several possibilities like \setupsimplefonts[features={liga}] but none worked 2) How can I get \sc to work with a font family whose small caps are defined as a font feature, rather than dedicated .otf files ? 3) How can I get font expansion and protrusion to work using simplefonts' dedicated keywords ? There again, I spent more than 30 minutes trying every combination I could think of, unsuccessfully. I think it would be useful to have a complete example of code involving simplefonts and expansion/protrusion that people could copy & paste from the wiki 4) What is the purpose of the 'mode' keyword ? Risking that, like my previous question, this one too will be posed the Nth time, I nevertheless ask. Typesetting a numbered list I tried a lot of paramaters on the itemize macros, but always the code: \startitemize[][start=8] \item a \item b \item c \item d \stopitemize results in: 8. a 9. b 10. c 11. d whereas I would have had: 8. a 9. b 10. c 11. d That is, the item labels aligned at the stoppers. location of /user/files?

Thank you again Aditya and Khaled for getting ConTeXt working here. One more question for the list: Under MacTex or TexLive, not sure which one, on my 10.4.11 system, my setup and env* files were located in ~/Library/texmf/tex/context/user/ I rsynced that dir to ~/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/user and ConTeXt is not finding them. Could someone please where I should put these files so context will find them? Thanks again, Paul

Font database does not report all fonts

Hi all, and happy new year ! I've just (properly) installed a fresh ConTeXt Minimals on Linux and built the font database. Although my /usr/local/share/fonts/d directory contains Delicious-BoldItalic.otf Delicious-Bold.otf Delicious-Heavy.otf Delicious-Italic.otf Delicious-Roman.otf Delicious-SmallCaps.otf the command mtxrun --script font --list elicious only reports delicioussmallcaps delicioussmallcaps /usr/local/share/fonts/d/Delicious-SmallCaps.otf The problem also arises with other (possibly all) font names. Any thoughts ?

Blank at beginning of page

Hi, being new to ConTeXt I'd have loads of questions but I'd like to start with what puzzles me most: any \blank[] command that happens to be at the beginning of a page seems to be ignored. For instance in a document as follows \showframe \starttext \blank[5*big] Some text. \stoptext the string "Some text." will be placed on the very top of the text field, regardless of what \blank[]s precede it. I read a good deal of the documentation but couldn't make out the cause nor a workaround. Right now I even consider to put headings inside a float or something like that in order to make their [before=\blank[someblank]] option effective. Thanks in advance for any advice Philipp

footnotes and naturalTABLES - Bug?

Hello all, when i place a footnote in a naturalTABLE the output at the bottom is always multiplied by four per footnotemarker. In normal tables it works normal (see minimal example in attachment). Is this a bug or make i something wrong? best regards Bernhard

Is there the length of article title limited in bibliography with MkIV for Chinese?

Hi all, If the .bib file includes a article with Chinese title, I found the article's length should be equal or less than 22 characters. Once the length is over 22 characters, the compile process will hang. Hi, I'm using \appendtoks...\to\everyaftershipout to reset a variable on every pagebreak. This doesn't work as I expect(ed) it, since it seems to only trigger after a paragraph. The following example shows the problem. On every new page, the first footnote should be "New", which is not the case here. What would be the way to go for me, to get the result I described? The joinedup parameter in \startitemize is meant to close the gap between the list and the preceding material. The margin parameter is for horizontal movement of the list, is I understand it. However, addition of a margin to the \startitemize disables the joinedup. Is this expected behaviour? Below is a minimal example showing the effect. Hi, On a new Snow Leopard machine, I ran ./first-setup.sh in ~/context. As instructed at the end of the ./first-setup.sh run, I then added /Users/pm/context/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin to my .zshenv, and % echo $PATH shows correct path when I source, logout, restart, etc. I ran: p% texexec example.tex MTXrun | kpse fallback with progname 'context' initialized in 0.001019 seconds I then tried p% luatex sample.tex This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.50.0-2009122423 \write18 enabled. kpathsea: Running mktexfmt luatex.fmt mktexfmt: No such file or directory I can't find the format file `luatex.fmt'! Any suggestions on what I should do? Also, first-setup.sh creates the dir ...tex/texmf-osx-64/bin, but, p% uname -m i386 Thank you very much for any help you can offer.

In texshow-web I found \setuphead[section-3][bodypartconversion=Characters] but this does not work. XML - creating a list by hand (mkiv)

Hi, can someone give me a helping hand with the following example. I still have no general survey over the XML related code in ConTeXt (donno what functions to use). The last time I played with it is one and a half year ago and many things have changed (meaning that the old examples no longer work). I simply want to create a XML document and insert some elements. My main problem is to insert an element at root level. I can insert an element before and after another element, but not into the element. I'm not sure, if I have understood the meaning of the pattern parameter correctly. Thanks for answers, friends! I don't have ruby installed, so I try Mojca solution. It works perfectly (thanks!), except I need to wrap the lyrics into the 'lines' envinroment. Using frames with metapost background in metapost

Hi, I want to use a frame with metapost background to highlight some text inside metapost. But, the best that I can do is get metapost to typeset the code for the background, rather than execute it! Verbatim Text with Embedded Formatting Commands (MkIV)

As noted at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Verbatim_text#Embedded_formatting_commands, the embedded formatting commands in verbatim text don't work in MkIV. Are there any plans to fix this capability soon? I'm planning on working on a project on over the holiday break that will need it. I'm not pushing to change your priorities. If it's not going to be fixed soon, then I'll implement a simple verbatim module that supports embedded formatting commands that will do until the official module works. I just don't want to waste that effort if verbatim is going to be fixed soon anyway. Thanks, Tad Ashlock
