Hello. When I compile next example by MKII and MKIV I get diferent results. Is there any way to set diferent stoppers (stopper in caption and stopper in list) in MKIV? Spot colors in mkiv

Hi Hans, Is there a nice way to get spot color names into the PDF in mkiv? I now have: {\catcode`\#=12 \gdef\hash{#}} \definecolor[PANTONE\hash 4625][c=0,m=0.6,y=1,k=0.79] \definespotcolor[dark][PANTONE\hash 4625][p=1] but that does not really deserve a price for elegance. Best wishes, Taco

Hi, Yesterday I installed a wiki for Open Type font information: http://www.openfontgarden.net The goal of this wiki is to collect as much (meta-)information about freely available OpenType fonts as possible: * status of the font (project) * supported character set / features * known bugs / problems * Example glyph pages * status of OpenSource support for that font (especially TeX of course, but also other programs like Troff and Inkscape) Currently there is no content except for a main page with some dead links, so as you can imagine: I am looking for people to help fill it in. :) Besides content, I wonder if there are people that have ideas for a nice logo and layout. Finally, I am also looking for help setting up and maintaining the wiki itself. This is my first mediawiki, and I don't really know what I am doing. :-/

Hello, I am using Taco's bib module in mkiv and I use only note field in misc layout. Now I have problem with setting separator of keys. I want use it in czech language and therefore I want modify separator, but I dont know relevant option. When I use in source \cite[15, 16] (keys of publications) then I get link to list of publications [15 and 16] When I use in source \cite[15, 16, 17] then I get link to list of publications [15, 16 and 17] I want set separator so that result was [15, 16] or [15, 16, 17] Where is point or option to change of separators?? Removing last skip or insert negative space to captions of figures

Hello, Inasmuch as I dont fix the problem with stoppers in MkIV (in MkII is OK) (settings \setupcaption[figure][stopper={*}] and \setuplist[figure][stopper={:}] isnt doesn't work), therefore I want be resolving it throught very beastly way: It is removing last skip (it is remove space after number of figure) from caption of figure or inserting negative space with stoppers to captions of figures by example: \placefigure{\negspacewithstopper Caption 1} {\externalfigure[figure1]} Definition of \negspacewithstopper is: \def\negspacewithstopper{$\!\!\!\!$:\quad } It seem to me, that removing last skip is clearer method, but I dont know, if any like this command exist in context. PlainTeX macro \unskip hasnt effect. Is there any way to removing last skip in Context (MkIV)?? Thankx Jaroslav

Hi, thanks for your previous answers, they helped me. But now I'm little lost in sorting (in registers -- index etc.). I know there is file sort-lan.mkii with sorting rules for czech language, but Context is not sorting by these rules (letter ch is not recognized). So, is there some way how to use it? (I can add it to context.mkii and generate format again, but I'm not sure, it was supposed to be this way). Also mkiv version of this file doesn't exist, but sort-lan.lua does. float problem

Hi, I have problems with a figure in a multicolumn layout (3 columns). The graphic is around two columns wide and the caption text should be displayed beside the graphic (one column wide). Sadly the figure is shifted to the right and the width of the caption is not considered (overwritten by normal text). I have tried several things, but no success. G'Day, I'm trying out ConTeXt and have come up with 2 questions. 1. How does one add a dot after the numerals in headings, so that "\section{First}" becomes "1. First" instead of "1 First" ? 2. Hello, I'd like add a word at the end of the last line of the paragraph. \hfill command works fine, when this word doesn't overflow to the next line. Hello list, Last time I typeset a book I was reproached for not suppressing page numbers on chapter's end pages and would like to avoid it this time ;) I mean, is there any other way to suppress page numbers more "user-friendly" than peppering the text with \setuppagenumbering[state=stop]? I need not page numbers only in chapter's last page. Hello I am setting figure and table captions as per this example: \setupcaption[figure][numberstopper=: ] Caption of pictures is OK - it means Figure 1: Description of Figure 1 Figure 2: Description of Figure 2 and so on.. BUT in contents of figures by using \placelistoffigures command is numberstopper : too for example: Figures: 1: Figure one ............................................. 5 2: Figure two ............................................ 10 e.t.c. Is there any way to get numberstopper only by the figure but not by the content of figures? It means diferent numberstopper by the content of figures and diferent numberstopper by the caption of figures. By example: Figures: 1. Figure one ............................................. 5 2. Hyphenation of composed words

Hi, I've yet another hyphenation problem. I cannot get proper hyphenation in composed words. Take this MWE: \setuplayout [width=1.5cm] \starttext composed-word\par % not hyphenated, as expected composed||word\par % wrong: hyphenated, but an en-dash is used, % not a hyphen, so [sign=wide] seems to be the default composed|-|word\blank % wrong: hyphenated, but the hyphen is at the start of % the next line \setuphyphenmark [sign=normal] % For hyphenation a hyphen is used, % not an endash composed-word\par % not hyphenated, as expected composed||word\par % wrong: hyphen is at the start of the next line composed|-|word % wrong: hyphen is at the start of the next line \blank[2*line] \setbreakpoints [compound] % my workaround composed-word\par % correct hyphenation behaviour with hyphen \stoptext I hope with the comments the problem is clear. At first the default value for »sign« is wrong. It has to be »normal«. But with »normal« I cannot get the hyphen at the end of the line, instead it always appeares at the beginning of the next line. Hi, I've a question concerning switching fonts in setups. How to get a sans slanted style? Have a look at the following table. One reason in that a texlive code freeze happens, another is that we need such a snapshot in order to do more drastic changes in mkiv as well as be able to use features that we introduce(d) in luatex > 0.60. Taco will post the usual detailed release notes soon. Apart from hotfix currents, the next current will be released around the context conference. Of course there will be betas in the meantime. Hi, I have found a glitch in lang-cjk.mkiv in definition of Japanese language name of days are shifted. I want to set up Times-Roman at 12pt as my body font. Hi again, 1. In sort-lan.lua, line 101 should read «['r'] = "r"», and line 144 «['r'] = 26, -- r». 2. Although I read the disclaimer about said file being “preliminary and incomplete” -- is there some rationale behind the range of integers for each language mapping? The mapping for English goes from 1 to 51, interleaving 2 integers for each letter (which is odd because it should start from index 3 with “a”, shouldn't it?), while the Czech one goes from 1 to 40 without skipping, Finnish and Austrian from 1 to 58. What about mapping them onto a larger but common scale that would alleviate multilingual sorting so that the alphabetical representation of the phoneme /a/ maps to the same value over different languages?† E.g. ["a"] = 3, -- in a Latin mapping, ["α"] = 3, -- in Greek mapping, ["а"] = 3, -- in a Russian mapping. 3. Is it intended that the digraph “ch” resolves (temporarily) to http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/ff01/index.htm according to line 72? Feel free to state more general opinions on the sorting topic as I am playing with different ways of sorting my bibliography. Running standalone metapost file omits spaces between btex and etex

I found that the following example \starttext \startuseMPgraphic{test} draw btex some text with space etex; \stopuseMPgraphic \useMPgraphic{test} \stoptext can generate the text between "btex" and "etex" correct no matter I use MKII or MKIV. But, when I running the following example beginfig(0); draw btex some text with space etex; endfig; end with the command line: $ mpost --mem=metafun test.mp or $ texexec --mptex test.mp It dose generate output. But the output omits all the spaces between btex and etex, with the resulting string to be "sometextwithspace". So, the question is how to get the correct results when running standalong metapost file with btex-etex strings. Thanks.

register confusion

Finding simple \at[] statements inadequate for glossaries (where there might be zero, one, or several page references per entry), I'm experimenting with registers, but I'm not getting the expected results: \defineregister[glind][glinds] \setupregister[glind][style=\it] \setupinteraction[state=start] \starttext double\glind[double]{} \page single\glind[single]{} \page double\glind[double]{} \page single should read, '2': (p.\placeglind[single]) double should read, '1, 3': (pp.\placeglind[double]) zero should be blank: (\placeglind[zero]) \stoptext Note the problems: 1. \placeglind[label] doesn't point to the label, it points to any label. 2. Context forces a linebreak before and after the numbers. 3. The numbers aren't italic. Also, it would be nice to set 'p.', 'pp.', or nothing automatically, depending on whether there was one, several or zero instances of the label in the text. Is register not the mechanism to do this? If not, I don't know what is.

PPCHTEX with PSTricks option

The minimal example shows diagonal lines. Since the line output of pictex is limited, I would choose PSTricks as output driver for better quality. When I enable the pstricks option, these diagonal lines collide with the radical atoms. You can easily reproduce this by removing the % comment symbol. How can we improve the postscript output. Any hints are appreciated. \installlanguage questions

Hello, I have few questions about command \installlanguage. First, in file lang-ini is command \setuplanguage for default language. It has parameters lefthyphen, righthyphen and hyphen. I would like to ask if these parameters can be used in command \installlanguage or not and what is their funcionality becouse I have tried use command: \setuplanguage[cz][lefthyphen=@,righthyphen=@,hyphen=€] and I didn't see any changes. I thought it's used to setup hyphen mark when the word is spilt at the end of line but I still get symbol - Also I would like to know whats the difference in \date and parameter date in \installlanguage? In parameter date in \installlanguage are curly backets, it's just some mask for command \date? Or those two are entirely different? Thank you answers. Tomas Pustelnik

Article titles not capitalized in bibliography

Book titles retain proper capitalization from the .bib file but articles from periodicals do not. Only the first word of an article title is capitalized in the .bbl file. Even proper names in titles lose their capitalization. Is there an option that needs to be set to cause article titles to retain proper capitalization? new issue with page break

Hello, IMHO there should never be a page break right *after* a section header, but here it is: \starttext \dorecurse{660}{text } \section{bla} % \par\page[no] % does not help \startTEX bla bla \stopTEX \stoptext My actual work-around: \page before \section{} Is there a better solution? Philipp: Thank you---I appreciate your effort on glossarium.lua very much, but I don't want to be dependent on you every time I want to tweek my glossary. I find it difficult to change the appearance and behavior of anything in Context, but I think my chances are better with it than with trying to work in lua. So, I have pursued the problem via the \definesynonyms approach. What I have so far can do all the basic things I imagined, and only seems to need some cosmetic work now. This is what I have: In the preamble: \definesynonyms[gentry][gentries][\infull][\inshort] %to connect headwords to entries \definesynonyms[gloss][glosses][\tttext][\ttkey] %to make short glosses available for tooltips \def\gldef#1#2#3{\gloss{#1}{#2}\gentry{#1}{#3 {(p.\at[g:#1])}}} \def\hint#1{\tooltip[middle]{#1}{\tttext{#1}}} \def\glref#1{\reference[g:#1]{}} %to place at a substantive reference in the text %then you have a file of definitions like this one: \gldef{vibrato}{a periodic fluctuation in pitch}{A periodic fluctuation of pitch, typically in the range 6--12~Hz.} Then, in the text, when you use an unfamiliar word and the reader could benefit from a quick, pop-up gloss: \hint{vibrato} (I just need a more sophisticated version of this that can deal with variants of the word). And, when you are about to engage in a substantive discussion of a word or phrase that appears in the glossary (for a given headword, there might be zero, one, or several such points in the text): \glref{vibrato} (This causes a page reference after the glossary entry.) I have two questions remaining: 1. I was somehow able to guess that \definesynonyms[gentry][gentries] creates a new command called "\setupgentries[]", and I imagine this command must inherit its possible keys and values from another command, but I don't know what. Where can I look it up? 2. How can I modify the appearance/location/behavior of tooltips? I tried \setuptooltips, but apparently that's not it. I'll tinker with this and test it for a while. Eventually I hope to contribute a glossaries "my way" to the garden. Hans: No problem! I'm sure whatever I put in the Google translator was just as articulate as what came out of it. Really, I think the mistake is mine. All along I have been assuming that Context was like LaTeX: a system for end-users, a language where an author could easily manipulate the appearance of his document. Apparently, it's more like a supporting infrastructure for that. Maybe it needs a layer of macros sitting on top of it to make it accessible and friendly to users/writers. About glossaries: Thank you, everyone. I'm not much of a TeXpert and certainly not a lua expert, but I'm trying to understand your different solutions and integrate them into a working system. There seem to be three approaches: I. Willi Egger---synonym-based II. Marius---modified index III. Philipp Gesang---lua-based I. So far, Willi's synonym-based solution looks simple and promising. Marius's modified index solution is the only one to successfully link the entry back to a point in the text, but the resulting "glossary" really just looks like an index. III. Philipp Gesang's lua-based solution connects headwords to entries just as \definesynonyms[gentry][gentries][\infull][\inshort] does, and it produces something that looks like a glossary, but the entries have no link back to the text. Also, I don't see the point of the \usegloss{word} command unless it references the substantive discussion(s) of the word. I think that is what his "\usegloss[exp]{word}" is for, but then there should be a reference to it in the entry. Something like: {\bd headword}---entry text, p.\at[g:headword] There probably is some advantage in using the lua script for this, but I don't know what it is. About tooltips: \tooltip surprised me, and I was impressed that it appears to typeset the tooltip text with Context, but there are some problems with it: 1. It's stretched horizontally. 2. The active area begins at the baseline and stretches about 1 ex _under_ the word. 3. It appears without a border and under the cursor. I have seen tooltips in pdf files before, and they looked better than this. I suspect the reason is that, as you say, \tooltip uses Javascript, and the ones I saw use a different mechanism. I dug around and found this reference which describes how it's done with form fields and invisible buttons: http://gilbertconsulting.com/pdf/Build_tool_tips_in_InDesign.pdf (Notice how tidy the tooltips in it look.) That document describes setting them up manually in a point-and-click interface, but surely Context could automate this by putting an invisible frame around the word and creating a form field/button over it? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but that mechanism is not Javascript-based at all, is it? (by the way: I've not broken the thread again, have I?)

TeX comments in Lua strings - message: Undefined control sequence

Hello, Is there any possibility use TeX comments (text behind character %) in Lua strings? When I use comment char % inside luastring, then rest of string (i.e. next TeX definitions) are for TeX invisible. For example: When I make string : TeXDefsByLua=[[ \def\printline{ \directlua{printline()} \par\hrule\par } \def\printall{ \directlua{printall()} \par\hrule\par } ]] tex.sprint(TeXDefsByLua) then is all right, BUT when I make string : TeXDefsByLua=[[ \def\printline{ % my comment inside string \directlua{printline()} \par\hrule\par } \def\printall{ \directlua{printall()} \par\hrule\par } ]] tex.sprint(TeXDefsByLua) then I get message: "Undefined control sequence" Is there possibility use TeX comments inside Lua strings? The stuff about the not very useful abbreviation command is there again, but I'm drawn to the section about building a dictionary that says it's not about building a dictionary. It says: "All you have to do is inserting a \index at whatever the phrase you want to index is, and placeing a \placeindex where you want the glossary to be." and then goes on to describe and index, not a glossary, which seems to require commands that need a lot of redundant arguments. It also contains this gem: "Like many other ConTeXt command, users can define their own series of indexing, which pluses the default \index series are called register." That's the most remarkable thing I've read today. Maybe I need to be more clear. A glossary is like a little dictionary in the back of a book that defines the specialized words and phrases that the book uses that might not be known to the general reader. Here is a definition of "glossary": A collection of glosses; a list with explanations of abstruse, antiquated, dialectal, or technical terms; a partial dictionary. ("Glosses" were little explanatory notes written in the margins of medieval texts---the kind of thing I would do if Context's marginal notes weren't incompatible with its columns.) Ideally, I'd like a system where I could keep the entries in a bib database or in a special .tex file. The records would include the headword and the gloss, and maybe a cross reference to the point in the text that dealt with the headword definitively---the point where the term was explained. (A document that defines and explains the new words and phrases it coins---imagine such a thing!) It would be nice if there were a command that would automatically link this point in the text with the glossary entry. LaTeX has several packages (glosstex, gloss, glossary, glossaries) that do things like this. To do this in Context, I will probably have to do it all manually, defining a command to set an entry and then doing all the alphabetization and cross-referencing by hand. What I would really, really, like is to add short definitions to each glossary record that could pop up as tooltips when the reader hovers over an unfamiliar word. Since there is no mechanism for glossaries in Context, there is no mechanism to build this into, but I'm still interested in doing it. The idea is, I could write something like: \gloss{strange word}{short definition} The text would read "strange word". When you hover over it with the cursor, a tooltip would appear saying "short definition". It would be great if this were linked to a glossary mechanism so I wouldn't have to keep writing the short definition---I could say something like: \gloss{strange word} and its short definition would be looked up automatically for the tooltip. The automatic reference to the word might look like this, in the text: \gref{strange word} which would cause the page number at that point to be printed at the end of the glossary entry for "strange word".

There is certainly nothing there about using an external database. I don't see any way to use \definesynonyms for a glossary or any practical purpose for \definesynonyms at all, and the abbreviations example is obviously more trouble than it's worth. More to the point, there is nothing about tooltips. Is there a way for Context to produce tooltips in text (with invisible buttons, perhaps)?
