Recently started working with context minimal and mkiv. I don't know how much of the traditional structure still is in play. Where do I find the typescript files and the map files applicable to mkiv? Help wanted for layers and pagebackgrounds

Dear all, I need to have a special layout, in which a number (which is not a page number nor a section number or such) is printed in big size on the right when the pagenumber is even (that is on a leftpage) and printed on the left when the pagenumber is odd (that is a rightpage). I guess my lack of knowledge in using and setting layers is the cause, but can anyone tell me please what am I doing wrong? Register interaction (page references) [mkIV]

Hi, when I place an interactive register in mkIV, and then in the PDF click the pagenumber (in the index), it takes me to the wrong page; it seems to go to the absolute pdf page number(?). czech language

Hi, I add to attachment updated file lang-sla.tex (some heads had wrong translation) and sort-lan files (mkii and lua), which now sort czech index as a norm says. There is just minor problem with MkIV version. Normally in czech accented characters are sorted as non accented, only when all characters are same (eg. "byt" and "být") accented chars. are put after non accented ones. In MkII this is completely fine, but MkIV sorts both ways (sometimes it sorts correct, sometimes not) Just for case I put in the archive file I use to test czech sorting. Problem I describe here, can be seen on words under letter L. And just one last question. I was playing with translation of user interface (for my bachelor thesis) and I wasn't able to add a new one. I tried to put some test translation in mult-def.lua and even modified mtx-interface.lua. I was able to generate messages file (mult-m**.tex) for my experiment, but i can't figure out how to generete mult-**.tex as well. Thank you for answers Tomas Pustelnik

Broken \setupexternalfigures in mkIV ?

The setupexternalfigures seems to be broken. In the example below, the first \placefigure doesnt work, but the second with the entire path does. I'm running the latest minimals via the GUI installer on winxp. Multiple citations at one position

Hi, I am citing several references at one position in my document and I was wondering if there is a way to get something like "[1, 3, 9 - 11]" instead of "[1] [3] [9] [10] [11]" (what I would get by using "\cite[ref1] \cite[ref3] \cite[ref9] ..."). Unfortunately I can't find some deeper information about \cite or \setupcite. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance, Stefan.

POV-Ray

Hi, I have needs of graphics which is very heavy and I am using metapost, metaobj and metauml. However, as you may know the problems which I have reported I think that it would be better if I use POV-Ray for images. Hello, is there any way to change default setting of style of section numbering of miscellaneous parts of documents? In \startbodymatter - \stopbodymatter environment is default style of numbering : 1. Section 1 2. Section 2 but in \startappendices \stopappendices environment is style of numbering: A. Section 9 B. Inserting apropriate blank - indenting by \writetolist

Hello all, When I do: \writetolist[chapter]{}{Appendicess} then content is 1. Section one 2. Section two . Appendices stopper is visible - unacceptable for me when I do: \writebetweenlist[chapter]{Appendicess} then content is 1. Section one 2. Placing a symbol at begin of a line when indenting is on

Is it possible to place the symbol such that its left edge would be aligned by left edge of the text and the indenting of following text is not touched? czech sorting

Hi, again czech sorting in MkIV is little wrong, I found it out coincidentally, when I was testing it. Order of character with accent is strange. Look at the file in attachment. Is there some way how to set order in which groups are supposed to be sorted, like in MkII? Also I really wonder why letter R is not included in sorting. Tomas P.

Hi, I want to produce a list of math characters for reference. Followed the wiki page it's supposed to be a simple call to \showcharacters. But the following tex file \starttext \showmathcharacters \stoptext produces an empty table. \showcharacters doesn't work either. Any idea why?

But it's ok for now, I will check czech norm and try to fix it if needed. Also I have question. In my bachelor thesis I'm describe language support for ConTeXt and when I tried add some experimental language into ConTeXt (I define system constants and add \loadcorefile{lang-exp} to context.mkii and context.mkiv) and when generating format for MkII everything was ok but for MkIV ConTeXt complained he can't find file lang-exp.tex (I paste it in base folder to other source codes). Any idea whats wrong? In MkIV must I change something else as well? Tomas P.

The following example from http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Math/Display#Sub- Formula_Numbering doesn't work in MKIV: \startsubformulas[eq:1] \placeformula[eq:first] \startformula c^2 = a^2 + b^2 \stopformula \placeformula[eq:second] \startformula c^2 = a^2 + b^2 \stopformula \stopsubformulas Formula (\in[eq:1]) states the Pythagora's Theorem twice, once in (\in[eq:first]) and again in (\in[eq:second]). It produces formulas (1.a) and (2).

Hi, is czech sorting in MkIV working? Is it just me or the sorting is really broken? Is there some text how to do sorting in MkIV so I can fix it, or I just need to follow rest of the sort-lan.lua to write sorting rules? \autoinsertnextspace in MKIV?

That's the answer I sought. The mechanism is called \attachment and it is in a working state - fine! Any pointers to usage examples? BTW it is not just matter of taste. Many tools produce not just models for 3D PDF (U3D or PRC), but complete PDF documents with additional JavaScript-programmed actions linked to proprietary toolbars etc. If this extended surrounding of the model is to bee preserved attachfile instead of embedfile approach is a must. Problem with the loading cid fonts in luatex-plain format

Hi, The following is my test file for Adobe OTF fonts loading. \font\cidfont=file:AdobeSongStd-Light \cidfont 测试 \bye I have put the Adobe-GB1-4.cidmap file into the directory which contains the test file. As a result, luatex gives this waring: LuaTeX warning: lua-loaded font [51] (file:AdobeSongStd-Light) has no characters! I remember it could work before. As Hans wrote already, there is a new context current. The short news summary: * Many of the stubs for the ruby tools have gone away. If you want one of the old command names back, just create a link from mtxrun to the required name, e.g. copy mtxrun.exe to mptopdf.exe on windows. Eventually all perl and ruby scripts will be gone. Most functionality is already provided by lua variants. * The hyphenation patterns for German, German (old), Hungarian and Spanish have been updated from the tex-hyphen project. * New versions of the ancientgreek, letter, and simplefont modules are included. * New modules (mkiv only): barcodes and punk * Support for shockwave flash has been updated (mkiv only). The backend code has been rewritten and currently only pdf is supported. * The split between mkii and mkiv is getting more complete. Only a few mkii bug fixes have taken place. * Typescripts are now split completely and no definitions are shared; loading of a mkio/mkiv file takes precedence over a tex file. As always, there is a detailed changes file on the wiki: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Context_2010.05.08 This current context is meant for texlive 2010, but there is a little time before the final freeze of the texlive repository, so there will be a bugfix update in a week or so. If you have pending urgent bugs (especially in mkii) this would be an excellent time to report them. 10+ reasons why I still use MKII

Dear Hans, since you have promissed another hotfix release for TL 2010, here's a list of issues that I had with my thesis and MKIV (some have already been fixed in the due time, but many remained). I probably wouldn't have had those "problems" if I was designing my document in MKIV from scratch, but just recompiling in MKIV didn't work out for several reasons listed below. 1.) Minimal example: \usetypescript[iwona] \setupbodyfont[iwona] \starttext $a+b$ \stoptext Output: !define font : font with name Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular is not found !define font : unknown font Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular, loading aborted !define font : unable to define Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular as \*iwona6ptmmmr33* !define font : font with name Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular is not found !define font : unknown font Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular, loading aborted !define font : unable to define Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular as \*iwona8ptmmmr22* !define font : font with name Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular is not found !define font : unknown font Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular, loading aborted !define font : unable to define Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular as \*iwona11ptmmmr11* !define font : font with name Iwona-Math-Letters-Regular is not found etc. I need to figure out why, though it works (I don't see deficiencies in output yet). 2.) Bibliography citations give different result with the same setup (different numbers and different spacing in \placepublication - might be also worth testing with grid typesetting as I wasn't able to set up the alignment properly in MKII last time when I have tried). does expandaparameters work

Hello, I use "\expandparameters" in a macro definition. -- \expandparameters\setupbackgrounds[page][background={\currentvalue,#1}] -- This works in MkII (texexec), but doesn't work in MkIV (context). If I define all layers in a single declaration, the results with MkII and MkIV are identical. Should this work? Or do I have to add something for MkIV? Thanks and kind regards Erik

Two questions about a mysterious behavior of ConTeXt

Hello, I encountered two mysterious behaviours of ConTeXt mkvi and can't resolve them by my self. So. The first one is: why does ConTeXt behaves differently then I use environment ant then I don't. There are two versions of the same code in the attached files. The test.tex uses environment test-env and test2.tex does not. Then why test.tex compiles while test2.tex does not? The second question is: why in the test-env.tex file ver2 of code compiles while ver1 does not? Thank you, Marius

[NTG Context] Storm (Lido) font support seems to be broken in newer versions of MKII

Hello, the Storm font support by Vit Zyka is broken in actual version of MKII. I spoke with him, but unfortunately he uses old version and does not have the time for updates. I discovered that renaming the enco-*.tex files to enco-*.mkii solves a part of the problem, but there still remains an issue with math typesetting. Context does not know many characters (\times, \neq, ...), boldmath etc. Typescripts looks OK and I don't know enough to look deeper. Hi, Running the following test with the latest context (MK-IV 2010.05.13 12:15) gives the following error. Compiled fine with version MK-IV 2010.04.29 22:30 (side note : integral symbols still not displaying correctly) I was just wondering, is there a ConText test suite which I can use to test the stability of a version ? Fonts in context minimals

I want to identify and use a very basic kind of font, Times Roman. I have been plowing though all the fonts in context-minimal but I don't find a tfm file to meet my need, not ptm, not utm, not nimbus. The 8r-base.map lists several good candidates but they are not in the minimals distro AFAICT. do I need to copy them over (pfb afm and tfm) from my texlive distro? Run context from Perl script

Hi all, I would like to run context from a Perl script. Within this script I defined environment variables (TEXMFOS, TEXMFCAHE & PATH). The command to run is : exec("/path/to/context myfile.tex"); But context can not start. I have following error: MTXrun | unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua' With the same method, I can run "texexec" without any problem. Any idea for help ? Thanks,
