nomarking function in MKIV

Hi, I gather the \nomarking function has been removed from MKIV. All I can find out about this is a note on the Wiki, towards the end of http://wiki.contextgarden.net/MkIV_Differences Unfortunately I don't understand the example given. What I want is to replace things like \chapter{Short Title \nomarking{Rest Of Title}} ....so that "Short Title Rest Of Title" appears as the chapter title, but just "Short Title" appears in the TOC, PDF bookmarks and footers. top layer / numbered layers?

While I wait for a solution of the mtxrun error, another question: I know how to use layers or overlays as backgrounds. How can I get a layer *above* the "normal" text plane? say... \definelayer[PageTop][x=0mm,y=0mm,width=\paperwidth,height= \paperheight,repeat=yes] \setupforegrounds[page][background=PageTop] \setlayer[PageTop][hoffset=10mm, voffset=10mm]{% \externalfigure[koe][with=40mm]} I just found that \framed knows "foreground=", but as far as I could find there's nothing like \setupforegrounds or \setuplayers. An idea: It would be nice if we just could use some number defining above or below main text like in: \definelayer[PageTop][x=0mm,y=0mm,width=\paperwidth,height= \paperheight,repeat=yes,layer=1] positive numbers would be above main text, layer=-1 would be below; 0 is reserved for main text. XY arranging

Is XY arranging supposed to work in MkIV? I call "context --arrange myfile", but get only one paper per sheet. centralized bib database

Hi all, AFAIK with the bib module one can't specify the database by an URL. I believe such feature would be great in allowing users to centralise all the bibliographical stuff in one place even when they work on several machines/places. regards, -- Jean

blurred shadow on images?

I'd like to place some plain photos rotated (say 12°) and with a blurred shadow above some colored elements, i.e. the shadow must use transparency. I guess I could get such using ImageMagick, but is there a possibility using ConTeXt or one of its favourite friends? I'd prefer a solution that works with CMYK data. If there isn't - is the transparency of PNG usable? Since all of the pictures will have almost the same size, I could probably also use the shadow as a single PDF picture and place that behind with a small offset. Greetlings from Lake Constance! \numstr seems to work fine in the body of text but errors out as if #1 was not a number when it is used in chapter start loc. CSS glitch in the garden

I guess Safari 5 changed some CSS behaviour, because in Firefox it's still ok: the menu column appears below instead left of the content area. logo position is ok, x positions of the areas seem also ok, just the y position of the menu area is wrong. [metapost] mptopdf from the command line in ConTeXt minimals?...

Hi, I'm a ConTeXt and Metapost newbie, so apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. I've successfully installed ConTeXt minimals on an OS/X 10.6.x system and it seems to be running okay. I'd like to run some metapost examples from the command line and "mpost" also seems to be running well. I've seen references to a "mptopdf" script and there is a Perl script of that name but it looks like it needs to be installed somewhere. How do I stretch text in header?

direction in columnset (MKII)

Hi all, Is it possible to tell columnsets which column is the first one? I use columnset in MKII to typeset Arabic text in a multicolumn layout and the text starts in the left column. Is there a nice way to force the text to start in the right column? Something like \definecolumnset[arabic][n=2,direction=right] doesn't work. (A nasty, ugly hack is fine too ;-) Example: \starttext \definecolumnset[arabic][n=2,direction=right] \startcolumns[arabic] Oeps. Problem with large space after section header

I am having a bit of a problem with some documents that I am trying to lay out in Context. The idea is that section contents are formatted in two columns, but in some cases Context leaves a huge space between the section header and the content. I have included a sample context file (test.tex) and the output I get from running: context test.tex using the newest version of context minimals. I expect "1.2.1 Test SubSection 1" and "1.2.2 Test SubSection 2" to be on the same page as "Problem Header," but, as you can see, they aren't. I appreciate any help in sorting this out. I'm new to Context, and not particularly experienced in typesetting either, so if you have any other advice I would appreciate that too :). Thanks, Jason Earl

pre-fuzzy blank slides

Hello, I am using the pre-fuzzy style for a talk and I get (in principle) randomly blank slides. I thought that it could be due to the fact that I use \page whenever I finish a slide and that that could be conflicting with \Topic{} but removing all \page did not help. Has anybody had this problem and/or could you suggest a fix for it? I do not paste here the whole presentation because I do not want to spam the list. Thanks, Pau

PDF Meta Tags

I received the following message from a publisher: [The PDF generator] you used flattens the file such that is has no meta tags whatsoever. We need the tags that give page separations, page count, header info, etc. How do I get those meta tags enabled? Would setting \interaction[state=start] do what's needed? Running minimals-beta. Ok , I changed the subject: I just installed ConTeXt minimals, but my fonts are not found now: "define fonts > font with name Barnard-Oblique is not found" font files are there, but some how context can't see them. Problems with Mark IV (MacTeX 2009)

Hi, After finding out that line numbering works different in Mark IV I tried using this version on Mac OS X via MacTeX 2009. I modified TeXworks to use "texexec --lua $filename" as for ConTeXt. I have updated MacTeX to latest version and actually I still cant' make it work. I tried following this guide: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Install_Mark_IV Except I didn't set any environment variables and ctxtools fails: CtxTools | unable to fetch cont-tmf.zip When updating MacTeX I got multiple failed messages in log regarding luatex, pdftext and etc. Overall all update failed in MacTex re-configuration. I will can make standard ConTeXt document (don't know how to call them), but not the new ones with Lua support (Mark IV, I think it's called). It looks like Mark IV does not work by default? Omitting hyphenation

Hullo, in Slovenian it's not allowed to word-wrap/hyphenate abbrevations. In the CV I'm writing right now, I have a few of those and they get hyphenated and broken. Hi, Is there a simple way to enable protrusion with simplefonts? I tried \definefontfeature [default][default] [protrusion=quality,expansion=quality,mode=node,script=latn] \setupalign [hanging] \usemodule [simplefonts][size=10pt,features=default] \setmainfont[Fontin] \setmathfont[Cambria] \showframe \starttext \input knuth \stoptext but that does not work. Adobe Reader Problem

Hi Hans, Hi all, since using the latest beta mkiv (WinXP) the lua function pdfview.open("file.pdf") results in a crash of Adobe Reader (with error report) and "Cannot contact server acroview" in the log. The last line of the log is: MTXrun | pdfview methods: default okular xpdf, current method: default, MTX_PDFVIEW_METHOD=<unset>Cannot contact server acroview On the command line pdfopen and pdfclose work as expected. TeX Gyre Heros Condensed missing in typescript / letterspacing

Hi ho, I just noticed that Heros CN is missing in type-otf.mkiv. Would you add it please? The fonts are in the minimal distribution. Using it, I find it unnecessary tight - how can I space it a bit? (using MkIV) I found \stretchednormalcase, but I'd like to enable it per-font. Greetlings, Hraban

\pdfcatalog broken in MkIV

Hello, as suggested in the thread about PDF Page Labels, \pdfcatalog can be used to manually modify the PDF Stream. However it seems that this does not currently work in MkIV (from the minimals, beta branch). In MkII it does exactly as I though (the resulting PDF contains a Catalog section with the content I passed to \pdfcatalog). In the PDF produced by MkIV however no Catalog can be found. Hi Hans, and all gurus, I noticed that the mkiv command \setcharacterspacing[frenchpunctuation] influences even the \type environment: is this behavior wanted or is it a side effect? Have a look at the following example in which \type{http://wiki.contextgarden.net} results in a space between « http » and « :// » as if the \type command were ignored regarding spacing. incrementnumber and bookmark

Hello, What is the relationship between "incrementnumber" and bookmarks? I don't get the desired bookmark here: \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupinteractionscreen[option=bookmark] \placebookmarks[title] \starttext \starttitle[title=Test title] bla \stoptitle \stoptext But with "\setuphead[title][incrementnumber=list]" it works. If I find a reliable and comprehensive source for how the AMS-style should look like, I'll try to implement it. But currently I am not able to make too much sense out of what I find in bibl-ams.tex. Wrong typesetting of "pages" in AMS-style publication list

Hi, I've encountered an issue with the AMS-style publication list (Mark IV). When the bibliography items in my document are typeset in the publication list, the attribute "pages" (from the .bib file; a range of pages is specified, e.g. "pages = {12--34}") is sometimes preceded by "p." (e.g. for "@incollection"), sometimes by "pp." (which I would think of being correct) and sometimes there is nothing (e.g. for "@article"): no "pp."/"p." and not even a point afterwards ending the bib item. Is this behaviour intended? I took a look inside the file "bibl-ams.tex" where (afaik) the setup is defined. The calls of \insertpages there differ a lot: \insertpages{, p. }{. }{. } %from book, l.203 \insertpages{\unskip, p.~}{. }{\unskip. } %from incollection, l.306 \insertpages{\unskip, }{}{} %from article, l.165 \insertpages{\unskip, \fixpp.~}{. }{\unskip. } %from inproceedings, l.344 It seems to me that the last one actually is what every call should look like. But maybe I'm getting this wrong. Any suggestions and/or explanations appreciated. It seems that the typographical quotation marks got lost in my test file. It has thus become pretty much useless. Just enter some other character instead to make protrusion visible.

Hi! Currently (Context beta 2010-06-20 / Luatex 0.60.1), textbackground and protrusion don't work together. Testing non-existent counter in Lua

Hi, all. How do I know (due Lua) that the counter has not been defined in ConTeXt (through the command newcount)? I am trying testing : if tex.count.mycount == nil then... or if tex.count.mycount == 'error' then... then when counter isnt defined due \newcount\mycount, then test ending with error message. When counter is defined due \newcount\mycount, \mycount=1 then test if tex.count.mycount == 1 then... is OK... Thanx, Jaroslav
