Dear ConTeXt folks, is there a module or a package people have created for common things used in mathematics. `\set{ a, b, c }` for a set. `\EV{X}` for the expected value. `\P{ X = ½ }` for the probability. … If not, maybe a module could be created and maintained together to not reinvent the wheel. tikz picture is placed align left-upper corner

I draw a figure by tikz but found it is not in the middle but a little left of the page, and then I wrote a piece code and impoved my view. And I tried to add some parameters to put the figure in the middle but failed. Positional graphics (MetaFun)!

Hi, Inspired by the examples given in the MetaFun manual (Oct. 2010) I tried a few, but I can't get them working! I'm specially interested in the 'Anchors and layers' (p.257, screen version!) feature. I typed in the MetaPost code as given on page 260, defined the anchors, but no circles and lines appear in the resulting pdf-file. Well I assume it must be something trivial. Anybody any idea? P.S. Line break in verbatim

Hi, Why does verbatim text not line break properly. \setuppapersize[A5] \showframe \starttext % hyphenate is not the right word here; but illustrates the problem \type{a very very long line to see if it hyphenates or not, that can require a lot oftyping phew}. \stoptext Also, it is possible to completely prevent line breaks for \type. Right, I have a feeling that this is MetaPost related, hence the random problems with different styles. I can reproduce this now without simpleslides too, using only metapost. I'm using "Split" for my presentation and as for the minimal I've provided BigNumber, both fail at some point. Using style=default, does not have this problem with qpdf. I'm still trying out different styles and different slide content ... Adam

Hi Here's another qpdf problem I've encountered lately. Not sure if it's ConTeXt's fault (simpleslides perhaps?) or qpdf. Error running compiling with ConTeXt MKII

Hi, I am new to context trying to compile my first few files. Last week I posted a message requesting help to which Taco responded. As a result, I reinstalled my TeXLive 2010 version and followed the post-installation steps in the TeXLive documentation. I have a demo file(attached to this post) that I wanted to test out. I used Texworks and ran ContXt(MKII) from the menu. OCProperties (mkiv)

Hi Hans, using the 'Report PDF syntax issues'-preflight in Acrobat9 gives a warning about an 'Unexpected value for this key'. I used 'pdf-x4p.mkiv' from /texmf-context/tex/context/test/ as test file. Probably just a warning about a redundancy (see 'PDF Reference, version 1.7.pdf', p376), setting 'BaseState /ON' in combination with '/ON [ whatever] /OFF [whatever]'. Removing 'BaseState /ON' results in a flawless PDF. Regards, Peter

Hi all, Hans, in lang-def.mkiv (line 623) and and lang-ita.mkii (line 101), we have \installlanguage % the same as italian [\s!la] [\c!rightquote=\lowerrightsingleninequote, \c!rightquotation=\lowerrightdoubleninequote, ... This can't possibly be right (is there a language which has “quote„ ?). I think the usual thing would be \installlanguage [\s!la] [\c!rightquotation=\upperrightdoubleninequote, \c!rightquote=\upperrightsingleninequote, ... Thomas

problem with printing pdf files (MKIV on Mac)

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I'm using ConTeXt MKIV 2011.03.11 11:45 (I will try to upgrade first). When I try to print the document from Mac (Skim.app) to two different printers, I get pure junk on both of them (bold and italic fonts come out semi-ok, but regular doesn't). If I print an older document or if I compile the same document with MKII, the document prints out fine on the same printer. The document also prints out fine when printing from Linux. I'm using one network PostScript printer and one network printer that is most probably using PCL drivers and both generate junk. I'm using "palatino" typescript. Mac is well known for displaying Word-generated documents as almost-pure-junk (one gets a different font and screwed up kerning instead of the original font that one would see in Word or in generated PDF when opened with Adobe Acrobat; but I'm not sure if it is Apple or Microsoft that have buggy software in that case) and for crashing on documents using smooth shading patterns. Does anyone have any suggestion how I could figure out what is wrong with the document? I would like to figure out if it is LuaTeX's or Apple's fault that it behaves so weird. (Can I send a document to PostScript printer on specific IP from a Mac without having to use Apple's libraries for handling PDF?) Mojca

MathJax and ConTeXt?

Hi all, As some of the gurus here may know, MathJax, http://www.mathjax.org allows one to display maths formulas typed in TeX (or LaTeX) and MathML to be correctly displayed on web pages. Many institutions are using MathJax on their site. Does anyone on the list have an idea about the possibility of including ConTeXt support in MathJax? Best regards: OK

mtxrun list?

Executing 'mtxrun' without arguments shows the list of commands. There one finds: mtxrun | ConTeXt TDS Runner Tool 1.30 mtxrun | mtxrun | --script run an mtx script (lua prefered method) (--noquotes), no script gives list Doing 'mtxrun --script' I expected to see a list of the available scripts. Minimals tree on Wiki?

Problem compiling document

Hi, I am a latex user trying to extend my knowledge to include ConTeXt. I have installed TeXLive2010 along with some latex editors including TeXWorks. attachment attaches twice

Hi I'm trying to use PDF attachments again, but run into some issues. Here's my small example (att.tex): %%% start %%% \setupinteraction[state=start] \starttext \useattachment[myfile][title][name][att.tex] \attachment[myfile] \stoptext %%% end %%% 1) Using context-current makes 1 attachment, whereas context beta makes 2 attachments (page + attachments tab?). I've attached the two generated PDFs. I guess the "attachments tab" attachment is not intended. 2) The third parameter should give a custom name for the attachment, and I recall this from old times (maybe mkii) to behave like that, though I can't reproduce this now. Is this broken (as it has no effect right now)? 3) I want to have some attachments (source code) from a url, can this be added to behave like \externalfigure? I want to use it like this: "\useattachment[myfile][title][name][http://git.example.com/master/att.tex]" Right now that just attaches an "Unknown" (maybe shortcut) but it cannot be viewed/opened or saved. Undefined control sequence. \pgfutil@addpdfresource@colorspaces ...olorspaces {#1} l.396 ...rspaces{ /pgfprgb [/Pattern /DeviceRGB] } The latex pendant (even with a tikz picture in it) compiles fine. I have another computer with an older version of pgf, which works well (with context and with latex). After an update to 2.10, context stopped working, latex still does. Skipping item numbers in an itemized list?

Hello, The effect I want is something like: 1. First item 2. Second item 5. Fifth item 6. Sixth item 8. Eight item and so on. Every now and then I need to skip a number or two. In LaTeX I could do this with \addtocounter{enumi}{2} - but how is this done in ConTeXt? Thanks very much, Alasdair

All, After being away from my project for a while I returned to find that something that worked now no longer does. Context and metapost: using \frac

Hi I am using context to run a metapost graph. I am however unable to insert a label with \frac, since this is not pure Tex but Latex. This seems to be a known problem for metapost: -Seems for metapost only, one should add %&latex (http://ryanmlayer.wordpress.com/tag/metapost/) -I saw also one post where it was mentione done should add //\setupMPpage[offset=1pt] //(http://www.tug.org/pipermail/pdftex/2001-March/000429.html). strange error on ntgmaps style

I get a strange error when using the dutch NTG-MAPS style I acquired from Taco, quite some time ago taking into account the fast pace of development in ConTeXt ;-) The error location in the log seems to be not directly related to the culprit, because deleting some lines shifts the given linenumber that number of lines down. If I comment out the maps style and its macros: \usemodule[map-se]\enablemode[nosubsub] \startArticle[.....] \startAbstract ... \stopAbstract \startKeywords ... \stopKeywords \stopArticle then typesetting does not give the error. Grid typesetting and inline math

Hello, I'm struggling with the grid. I've stepped from LaTeX to luaLaTeX for a simpler font selection, and from luaLaTeX to ConTeXt for getting a usable grid (because I was told that it supports typesetting on a grid). Now that I got font selection working as desired in ConTeXt, the grid is driving me crazy. I'm trying to use the grid as described in details.pdf, and I want halfline spacing around formulas in text, because a full line is definitely too much. This is what I'm compiling: \setupbodyfont[10pt,serif] % should be lm? \setuplayout[grid=yes] \setuptextformulas[step=halfline] \starttext \showgrid Testing inline math: \gform{x_2 = \frac{a}{b}}. The following line should be seperated from this one by half a line, but it isn't. Testing inline math: \gform[-]{x_2 = \frac{a}{b}}. The following line should be seperated from this one by half a line, but it isn't. \stoptext Both paragraphs look identical, the second line is too far away from the first one. Hi all, Using the last mkiv from the minimals, \setuppublications seems out of order. If I write: .................................. \setupbibtex [database=/home/jean/biblio] \setuppublications[alternative=apa] \starttext {\bf Bibliography} \nocite[foo, bla, blu] \placepublications \stoptext ................................... the pub list is empty. But if comment out this line the bibliography is printed; it works also ok with \setuppublications[] -- Jean

Creating a PDF named destination

Hello all, This seems to be a very obvious FAQ but I can't find an answer anywhere. How can one create a named destination in an output PDF file such that an HTML link to <filename>.pdf#nameddest=<name> will work? I'm using Mk II in case that is relevant. I kinda assumed that a section title with an ID would automatically create a named destination with the same ID, but that doesn't appear to be the case. So given a file generated from \starttext \chapter[myid]{My chapter} Blah blah. \section[myotherid]{My section} Blah blah. \stoptext I'd like to be able to link from an HTML file to the named destinations myid and myotherid using the #nameddest URL construct above. \type macro weird?

This works fine: \starttext Here a type macro <\type{\abc}> \stoptext This also: \starttext \placetable{table \type{abc} title}{abc} \stoptext This too: \starttext \placetable{table \type{\blank} title}{abc} \stoptext But this gives an error (mind the \ before abc). \starttext \placetable{table \type{\abc} title}{abc} \stoptext Do I misinterprete something here? I just wanted to typeset "\abc" in the type-font. Why is the very first \abc treated as text to typeset but requires the placetable argument that it is an existing macro? Or isn't this the intended behaviour?
