Is there a way to access a document global variable from Lua? I will use this to replace the REFREF text. 2. v.references.realpage isn't the actual page of the title. How can I access the page number that would have appeared in the ToC? (I've restarted the page numbering in my master doc, the above example works fine) 3. Is there a way to store some metadata along with my title? I'd like something similar to this: \myheader[author=me, date=2011-12-14]{This is my header with meta-data} and then be able to access it from Lua again. Thanks for any help you can give with this. Mailing list archive (archive.contextgarden.net) will be down or at least not updated

Hello, We are moving the mail server from Germany to Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana and would like to let you know that mailing list archive won't be updated when that happens. So: copy of mailing list archive (archive.contextgarden.net) won't be updated for at least some time, but there is also a chance that it will be completely replaced by a different solution. Not that it would be technically impossible to continue updating it, but I think that setting up mailing lists has a much higher priority at the moment than old archives (which are much better at gmane.org anyway). We will get new mailing lists on the new server soon (some of them for members of ConTeXt Group, http://group.contextgarden.net, some of them for distribution etc.) If anyone has any thoughts about this, you may write me off-list (I will post a summary to the mailing list later on). The list ntg-context at ntg.nl won't be moved due to longstanding tradition at ntg.nl, but we will move some mailing lists from obscure locations such as launchpad (where we had a mailing list for binary builders). Mojca (There is no reason to take lurker down at this moment, but we are somehow afraid that people would rely on it returning the latest mails.)

Preserving Output Files

Hey list, I've searched the list, but couldn't seem to dig up anything that I thought was relevant. How do I get ConTeXt to preserve all files necessary to run the same invocation of LuaTeX it executed when it was run. As an example, when I run the following... $ context Source/Handbook.tex --result=Handbook.pdf ...it says that it ran the following... luatex --fmt="/home/kip/.texmf-var/luatex-cache/context/e570cb3e0e3ab0118ca08dd148bbec7d/formats/cont-en" --lua="/home/kip/.texmf-var/luatex-cache/context/e570cb3e0e3ab0118ca08dd148bbec7d/formats/cont-en.lui" --backend="pdf" "Handbook.tex" If I run the same luatex command on its own, it cannot find the temporary working files passed to it in its parameters. How to create horizontal line for signature?

Dear ConTeXt folks, sometimes you need to insert a line for signature. I could not find anything usefull especially `\underbar{\hspace[10*\big]}` [2] did not work. I ended up abusing `\framed` [3]. \starttext \startstandardmakeup[align=right] Alles rechtens. Everything is fine and nobody cheated. \blank[medium] London, den 28.\,June 2011 \blank[3*big] \framed[width=5cm, frame=off, topframe=on]{\small John Doe} \stopstandardmakeup \stoptext The down side is, that its widths is not perfectly aligned with the location and date. I guess there is something simpler to do it. I looked at Wolfgang’s letter module but could not figure out how it is done there. Something like the examples posted for LaTeX on Stack Exchange [3] for ConTeXt would be nice. hi list, i want to make an exercise sheet style. exercises are already correctly rendered as “*Exercise <1>: <Text>*”, but sub-exercises should simply be like “*<a>)*”. what i tried: \definestructureconversionset[ex][numbers,characters][numbers] \setupheads[numberconversion=ex] and \setuphead[subsection][numberconversion=characters, …] but i have no idea what i’m doing in the first case and even less idea of what i’m doing wrong in the second. documentation would help in both cases, but contextgarden just has some (for me) incomprehensible examples. thanks, philipp ------------------------------ what i’d really love to have is the following commands, but i’ll figure it out once i have above problem solved. “\sheet” reads the current sheet number from the file name and gives “*Sheet <1>*” as title level header. “\exercise[<descr>]” gives “*Exercise <1>*” without and “*Exercise <1>: <descr>*” as section level header. “\subexercise[<descr>]” gives “*<a>)*” without and “*<a>: <descr>)*” with description as subsection level header.

pdfselect and context command?

Lua and module gnuplot: Manipulate Gnuplot script with Lua

Dear ConTeXt folks, I have two coefficients saved in a text file -0.157737135681261 -0.211443105668896 and I want to use them to plot a line with gnuplot. Having several of those files I want to use Lua to create the formula for the line for me. I have not yet figured out how to read values from a file in Lua and just tried to print a constant to the gnuplot command. Reverse numbering

Hi all, When using \startitemize[n,reverse] one gets items numbered in reverse order. I wonder if this feature exists also for enumerations. An example is given below in which the last enumeration is written on top of the file and I wish it were possible to have the enumerations numbered in reverse order. Thanks Wolfgang - that works as expected. I'm trying to create a table from the headings (as previously mentioned). Something like this: \setuplist[chapter][criterium=all,alternative=command,command=\MySummaryTable,before={\setupTABLE[frame=on]\bTABLE\bTABLEbody},after={\eTABLEbody\eTABLE}] \define[3]\MySummaryTable{\bTR\bTD #1 \eTD\bTD #2 \eTD\bTD #3 \eTD\eTR} \starttext \placecontent \chapter{First one} \chapter{Second one} \chapter{Third one} \chapter{Fourth one} \chapter{Fifth one} \placelist[chapter][criterium=all] \stoptext While the content gets placed it doesn't appear in a table. I also notice that the same layout is used in the first \placecontent line. In my final document I'd like to have my headings included as usual in the table of contents but then have my own custom list appear as a table later in the document. Is it possible to define a separate format for a list that can be used outside of the ToC? Felix

Hi all, I can't seem to get a list placed after a numbered heading. For example: \starttext \title{First one} \placelist[chapter] \chapter{Second one} \placelist[chapter] % This won't be placed \stoptext Is this something I should be able to do? The reason I ask is that I'm looking to generate a summary table in my document that will contain information from my page titles. I'd like to have the heading title, the page number and possibly some meta-info that I'm passing to my custom command. (I'm planning on passing a custom command in the \setuplist command). If it's not possible to \placelist's after numbered headings then could someone suggest an alternative method? Many thanks, Felix

However if the Lua code did interpret the number into an internal format it would enable other things like normalisation to scientific or engineering form, etc. However the internal format would have to support arbitrarily long numbers and exponents ... Lua's built-in internal number format (a double precision float, I think) would not do, so there would be a bit of coding involved. Robin

Dear ConTeXt folks, looking for graphics example and therefore searching the list I found the answer from David Arnold in the ntg-context list thread »OT: looking for metapost/fun examples« [1]. It is for plain MetaPost and works fine with `mpost` after making sure to remove the line breaks inserted by the mail program. I then copied it into `\{start,stop}useMPgraphic`, removed the `end ;` and `{begin,end}fig` and replaced `{e,b}tex` by `textext()` but still get the following error. ! terminal: ! wider right margin when it shouldn't be

Hi there, compiling this document: \setuppapersize[A4] \setuppagenumbering[alternative=singlesided,location=middle] \starttext \showsetups \dorecurse{4}{\input dawkins \par \input knuth \par} \stoptext I should get the exact same length for left and right margin (defining margin as the total distance from the page edge to the text body edge [sorry, it isn't as accurate as it should, but I would like to avoid misunderstandings]). Setups show also that margin width and distance are equal for both sides. What I see on my laptop (and what I have seen on the printed version) is that the right margin is wider than the left one. bug with \setuplayout[setups=*strict]?

Hi there, I read a previous message on this list form Wolgang that \setuplayout[setups=*strict] is the ConTeXt way to avoid orphan and widow lines. I have tried that before checking that \widowpenalty=10000\clubpenalty=10000\raggedbottom doesn't change anything on my documents. The problem with the first code is that it breaks some pages in clearly wrong places (it breaks the page on the seventh line of a A4 page). I don't know how I could provide an example, since the document is a personal document that I cannot share with third parties. Is there no other way to avoid orphan and widow lines? Bibliography: Any styles including URL?

Dear ConTeXt folks, type setting my thesis with ConTeXt I still use BibTeX to manage my references. Since a lot of references are available online I want to include the URL if they are available. I read the ConTeXt publication module documentation [1] and as far as I can see, there are some predefined layouts included in ConTeXt but none of them seem to include the URL when passed. The Bibliography documentation [1] also mentions that setting this up is tedious. So I am hoping I can profit from someone else’s work and use it. Could someone share such a style please for a mathematical thesis in German? That would be much appreciated. Bibliography: How to get `\completepublications` to use different title?

Dear ConTeXt folks, reading the Wiki page [1] and the documentation [2] I could not find a way to change the default used `\chapter` [3] to `\subject` which I need, because the references have to be set without a number and my “highest” level is `\section` otherwise. Is there something similar to `\setupheadtext[en][pubs=References]` for other settings? Hi, If I use \setupcaption[number=no] and include a float with no caption, then all subsequent floats do not have a caption! Footnotes break out of columnset (current beta)

Possible bug in \unit

There seems to be a bug in the new unit system for \unit{kbit}: % bit \unit{kilo bit} % kbit \unit{kilobit} % kbit \unit{kbit} % kB, shouldn't this be kbit? Another thing: \unit{3.4e-5} yields to 3.4⁻⁵ that's expected according to the manual. But how to get 3.4·10⁻⁵ (either with \cot or \times)? Marco Patzer

Enumeration in mkiv

Dear Hans, In transferring some stuff from mkii to mkiv, I noticed a change in the way mkiv puts too much distance between the title of an enumeration and the text following it. I am not sure whether I have noticed this before, but my feeling is that the change is somewhat recent. Reverse numbering for enumerations?

Hi all, When using \startitemize[n,reverse] one gets items numbered in reverse order. I wonder if this feature exists also for enumerations. An example is given below in which the last enumeration is written on top of the file and I wish it were possible to have the enumerations numbered in reverse order. Columnset error with \setupheader[state=high]

Hello, I hope someone has solved this problem already but I haven't been able to find a solution. When using \setupheader[state=high], my columnset behaves correctly on the first page but runs over the footer area on all subsequent pages. If I do not use state=high (i.e. normal header on first page) the columnset works correctly. However I need to get rid of that first page header. The result is the same if I set state=high using \setuphead[title][header=high]. `\{start, stop}MPpage`: MetaPost figure does not fit canvas(?) in resulting PDF file

Dear ConTeXt folks, using the following example \starttext \startMPpage draw (0,0)--(10,10)--(15,5)--(20,10); draw (0,0)--(0,10)--(10,10)--(10,5)--(15,5)--(15,10)--(20,10) withcolor blue; \stopMPpage \stoptext it looks like the bottom is not included in the resulting PDF file and at the top there is too much room. (So it looks like the figure is moved too far to the bottom.) Using the examples from the Wiki [1] with circles works though. I am using ConTeXt Standalone.
