Hi! Struggling with cld document...

Hello all, While preparing a cld-document I need to setup the headertexts on each new page. Constraint in line numbers

Hi, this is my first message in this ml ;) Well, I've a stupid constraint in a work: I must limit the number of lines in a page. I have to have 32-35 lines on each page. Now, the task isn't too complex in principle, I can work on interline sizes and glues, but this way is a little bit tricky. I wonder if there is a better (and elegant) way to manage the problem. ePub from project?

I thought I could try ePub with a current book project. export.xml from my product looks good and contains "everything" from the components, but the xhtml file contains only a ToC - and thus, ePub is empty. Further, it seems like arguments of \settaggedmetadata like name, title, author are just ignored in ePub. ePubReader in Firefox says (translated) """ XML processing error: "Junk" after document element Address: file:.../epub/4/OPS/example.xhtml Line Nr. 173, Column 1:<section detail="chapter" location='aut:2'> """ Adobe Digital Editions shows no error, just an empty book. new beta

Hi, I uploaded a new beta. The most prominent changes are that the frames macro, mp graphics, and scaling code has been cleaned up, sped up and namespaced. of course some bug can have crept in. Don't expect wonders with respect to speedup although it can make some difference when multiple backgrounds, of large natural/extreme tables are used. Of course raw output of pages (as with \dorecurse{1000}{test\page}) is not really a good measure but at last the overhead gets more and more minimized which is also good for tracing. This version might also solve some of the reported problems with page imposition (as the page-* modules are being cleaned up buglets cna be introduced .. nothing really changes there apart from speedup and namespacing). Header bottomframe on first page of document

Hello, If I have a bottom frame under my page headers, is it possible to have NO bottom frame under the header on ONLY the first page of a document? I am using: \setupbackgrounds[header][text][bottomframe=on] to put a border line underneath all my page headers. I want to have a header on the first page of my document but no line under it (the first page header will be unique). I want to keep the vertical space for the header, so \setupheader[text][state=high] is not what I need. The reason for this is to have the option of placing a "banner" over the document title using the header. Some documents will need this, and some will not. So, if the extra banner is needed, I will put it in the first page header, and if not I will leave that header blank. Thank you, Luigi. I see that Context runs from the command line. The problem is that it does not run from emacs context-mode. How can I fix this? Problem with \insertpages

Hello! After I got my layers (i.e. covers) organize, I ran into some postprocessing problems. This used to work, I've last used it just a month ago. \setuppapersize[A5][A4] %individual page A5 size, print size A4 \setuparranging[2UP,rotated] %makes a single booklet when folded (duplex printing!) \setupoutput[pdf] \setuplayout [backspace=0pt, topspace=0pt, width=middle, height=middle, location=middle, header=0pt, footer=0pt] \setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided] \starttext \insertpages [pr-33-gp.pdf][width=0pt] \stoptext [see also http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Including_pages_from_PDF_document] It no longer works, I just get a pdf with blank pages, even though the input pdf is fine. If I remember to tell my SciTe to "Process and Arrange", it definitely tries to arrange the pages, but something just goes wrong (the whole log is attached). Hello again, it’s that time of year again, when I try to print my calendar and address book for next year, and last year’s ConTeXt code doesn’t work any more... Right float and grid

ConTeXt-- does it make sense for my needs?

Many years ago I used LaTeX quite a bit for academic work, including a fair amount of Memoir class. Back then ConTeXt was quite new, so I didn't mess with it much. Now I'm back and sick of Word/etc for the documents I need to produce as print/pdf and for interaction with colleagues. What I can't figure out is if ConTeXt makes the most sense... and if it does, I have a few questions... 1) My work is primarily in the humanities and end-user technologies, with small amounts of coding. So mathematics isn't an issue. I do a fair amount of highly academic writing (aka: many sections, citations [handling this in a sensible way is really important], footnotes) with the occasional need for charts, graphs, and photos. In other words, I'm not doing the kind of layout one might associate with InDesign or the like. I also write many paper letters (personal), poetry, fiction, essays, and the like. 2) That said, I (obviously) have a keen interest in typography, and that includes wanting to use some particular typefaces... I've paid good money for many of them, so why not? 3) PDF is my primary medium of exchange, though I would like to efficiently exchange docs with colleagues, which might mean getting them into something they can open with their beloved Microsoft Word... is there an RTF output for ConTeXt? this isn't super-high on my list, but it would be nice. 4) How about X/HTML? this is my lowest level need but, again, it would be nice. 5) I generally use a Mac for everything, but I am pretty comfortable in the shell. I've done a bit of programming in PHP. I don't mind monkeying around, and I am interested in creating layouts that suit my needs, but digging into internals is not for me. I used Emacs extensively for years, now using mostly Vim (MacVim) and a variety of GUI editors depending on what I had for breakfast that day. So, do you think ConTeXt makes more sense than LaTeX? And *what* is the deal with xetex? It seems to be the easiest way for accessing all my fonts, but it also hasn't been updated for years and, since it is tied to an old version of ConTeXt (as far as I can tell) it doesn't seem like much of a winner. Finally, if ConTeXt is the way to go, are there any fairly comprehensive materials in one place for learning to use it? What I find on the wiki seems to go from basic to advanced without a lot of in between, and what I find on the web seems a bit fragmented. but at this point my head is in a whirl, so I might just be missing some obvious material. Hi, I'm experiencing problems with the latest (today's) beta, and I suspect they are caused by the "bold math" change. pdf arrange

I think I saw in the recent past here something about rearranging the pages of a pdf. However, I cannot find it, therefore I take the liberty to place this question. The idea is to change the pages from 1,2,3,4,etc, into 1,3,2,4,etc. Can it be done with one of the tools in the ConTeXt distribution, or else..? Thanks in advance Hans van der Meer

Minion Pro - em and slant?

I found a bunch of code that sets up Minion Pro (and Myriad) typefaces that seems to work (once I modified MinionPro-Italic and the rest to be MinionPro-It as it is on my system: http://pastebin.com/muSg4dZN However, neither \em nor \slanted make any change to the text. Since I'm basically blindly copying and pasting the typeface setup (is there a better way to use different fonts? hi, i have the following setup: \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmainfont[Cambria] \setsansfont[Ubuntu] \setmonofont[Envy Code R][regularfont=envycoder] \setmathfont[Cambria] \setuphead[section][style={\ss\bfb}] \starttext \section{Wat? $y=x^2$} \stoptext why is the math in the header typeset in computer modern instead of ubuntu and how do i fix it? PS: preferrably it should be bold, too. there is a wiki page, “Bold Math in Section Titles <http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Bold_Math_in_Section_Titles>” but it doesn’t explain how to do it with simplefonts.

Thanks Hans for fixing the other issue! I've just discovered another problem. So far I switched the font in for my headers with the following command \setupheader [style={\ss\switchtobodyfont[10pt]}] this does not work anymore. Is this on purpose or also a bug? Steffen

Hi, I just installed the latest beta (2011.12.15) on my workstation. I'm not able to create my document, because there are problems with the placement of my toc. The same tex is running fine on my laptop with (2011.11.29). It hangs while placing the front matter. Hi, I uploaded a new beta. This one is really beta so don't update if you have a critical workflow (or make a copy). Among the changes are: - page-* : cleaned up, split and made more efficient (maybe typos) - strc-itm : cleaned up (maybe side effects, but it looks ok) - style/color : low level clean up (which means that some t-* files need to be updated in sync) Of course there are the usual fixes / improvements / new bugs. crlf in textext?

Is it correct that the use of textext(label,pos) in MetApost pictures does not honor \crlf? I could not make a twoline text with textext("abc\crlf xyz",pos), it comes out as one line "abcxyz". Is it a feature or a defect? Hans van der Meer

MnSymbol (math) support in ConTeXt

Hello, I have been developing a new layout environment using Adobe Minion Pro for the main body font. My document will include a significant number of math formulas. I found a thread from earlier this year on the possibility of adding support for the LaTeX MnSymbol font package in ConTeXt, and wondered if anyone has gone farther with this idea. The last recommendation on the thread ( http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2011/057426.html) was to merge the Opentype MnSymbol font with Minion Pro using FontForge -- I tried that using the steps outlined, but reached the same obstacle mentioned by the last poster: the new (merged) font is not recognized by ConTeXt. That approach probably violates the Adobe font license anyway... In a 2009 thread on dev-context, Wolfgang Schuster mentioned an attempt to create a virtual font and typescript for MnSymbol, but he encountered problems with Greek characters. ( http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20091122.164136.5757ec1f.en.html) So, as I don't know how to proceed further, I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experimented with MnSymbol support, or in finding out what specific steps would be involved in adding support. Also, any recommendations of other math fonts suitable for use with Minion Pro would be welcome. I am currently playing with XITS math, which is Times-like but not too bad a fit. Hi there, It came to my attention that there might be a problem when using math symbols in the superscript: It seems that the symbols are not properly scaled (if downscaling was what I suppose to be the default behaviour). A small example is given below. Thanks in advance. All, I have a conditional expression that checks to see if the current node has any ancestor whose xml:id attribute matches a string \xmldoifelse{#1}{ancestor::div[@xml:id='apr_engl']} What I need is a test to see if the current node has any ancestor whose xml:id attribute _contains_ a substring. Something like this: \xmldoifelse{#1}{ancestor::div[ @xml:id contains('_engl')]} trying this: \xmldoifelse{#1}{ancestor::div[ contains(@xml:id, '_engl')]} got me this error: ! LuaTeX error < local expr = xml.expressions...>:3: bad argument #1 to 'contains' (string expected, got nil) any suggestions? Jon
