"Turning off" special chapter headings

I'm using the following: \def\chap#1#2{\vbox{Chapter #1\crlf\framed[frame=off,topframe=on]{#2}}} \setuphead[chapter][command=\chap,style=bfd,after={\blank[1cm]}] for my chapter headings. But one chapter: "Answers to Exercises" I want unnumbered, without the "Chapter" text, and also in the table of contents. Can anybody point me to the simplest way of achieving this? (I've tried various combinations of \setuphead, \definehead, but nothing so far has given me what I want.) Layout: odd, even and newLayout

UTF conversion via Lua

Hello, I have many files with ASCII encoding; this encoding must be kept as these files are processed also by another program. When I work with them in ConTeXt, I need to convert them to UTF. Does Lua (in ConTeXt scope) offer a transformation function or a table of chars [ASCII-code] -> [UTF-code] or anything to provide the conversion? error with m-database example

Sorry to pick up an old topic (http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20101221.082006.4dc83f26.en.html) but I seem to have the same problem with m-database at mentioned in this old thread. I am trying to "freely" use the data fields in a layout other than (natural) Tables. An update of context (15.2.2012) doesn't help. The example from the CSV MyWay fails as well as the simplified example below with following error: \doprocessdatabase ...ameter \c!command \!!es , }} l.14 \stopAddressen Modifying m-database.lua as suggested in the old thread seems to have no effect on the error... Though I suspect the file has been changed since anyhow. Unnumbered chapter in table of contents?

Hello, For my student notes, there are ten numbered chapters, and one unnumbered ("Answers to Exercises"). I want all of these to appear in the table of contents. So: 1. First Chapter 2. Second chapter 10. Tenth Chapter Answers to Exercises I've set up the chapters with \def\chap#1#2{\vbox{Chapter #1\crlf\framed[frame=off,topframe=on]{#2}}} \setuphead[chapter][ command=\chap, style=bfd, after={\blank[1cm]}, ] However, I don't want this heading on the exercises; just the title. How can I easily achieve all of this? I've tried with \title[Answers to Exercises] and \writetolist[content]{}{Answers to Exercises} but these don't seem to work. A bit more help with referencing local filenames

At the moment I have two bits of code that conspire to build a link to a file that is on a website. So, variables set on a per-document basis, giving the folder: swfURLPath={http://some location or other/PN01_media/}, supportURLPath={http://some location or other/PN01_support/}, These combine with a macro, ending with: [url(\swflocation#1/#1.swf)]} and a piece in the actual file that gives the filename to be retrieved \PlaceSWF{ModelACircuit} What I'd like to do is be able to alter swfURLPath to designate a local folder for retrieving the swf and launching it in a browser Same thing for the supportURLPath, which always opens PDFs in a browser. I tried stuff like: swfURLPath={\\PN01_media/}, supportURLPath={\\PN01_support/}, And have trawled the context wiki and documentation, but cannot find anything authoritative on linking to local files using relative references, as you might in html. I'm keen not to try and use the same hooks so that I can switch back and forth between remote and local access to the supporting files. There is a good reason for this - honest. Passing variable values on invoking context

A bit of help, please. I currently have a chunk at the start of a text file, like this \setvariables [Path] [Thread={Ee_01_PN}, ..... Mode=full] \stopbuffer I invoke the file with context filename.tex Is there a way to pass the value of the variable to context on invocation? So the top of the header might read: \setvariables [Path] [Thread={Ee_01_PN}, ..... ] \stopbuffer And the invocation: context filename.tex (bit of magic) Mode=full If so, I could use this a few times...it's not a big deal but would mean I could prepare some fixed command files, rather than a search and replace for Mode=full to Mode=light through al the text files called by this kind of invocation. texgyre termes: no ligatures

Hi all, I think this has been around for a while, but I have never gotten round to writing about it: ligatures do not work in tex gyre termes. AFAICS, they do work in the other tex gyre fonts. However, they are most needed in termes (fi without ligature is really ugly in this one), and they do not appear in the current beta. Don't know if this is a luatex or ConTeXt issue. random bookmarks not linked (with example)

Hi Hans, finally I managed to figure out a "minimal" 3 page example that can reproduce this strange bug! It seems to be an interaction of \cite and \index with sectioning/bookmark generation: Please run "chap_1.tex" and click on the bookmark "1.1.2 SIX" ... no destination is set. (As I explained before, this does not mean that anything strange is going on at \subsection{SIX}. If the minimal file was longer, the missing link would have been somewhere else.) If I delete the used \index entries the bug is gone. And if I delete the used \mycite commands the bug is gone, too. I hope this test file might help ... Steffen -------

Increment an item number?

What is the ConTeXt version of the LaTeX \addtocounter{enumi}{1} ? I want to increment my numbering in an itemize environment, so that the list is typeset as 1. First item 2. Next item 3. Another item 5. Yet another 6. And so on I'm typing out solutions to questions in some student notes, and the missing item is a question for which a written solution is not necessary. Hello, Here you see some white space at the left and the right of ".COM": \ss \framed[offset=overlay]{.COM} How can I remove this space in the right, correct, natural, smart, elegant, ConTeXtish manner? Two columns type problem

mixing Greek and English texts

Hi there, I would like to typeset a classical Greek text that contains a Greek-English dictionary and other explanations in English with Greek passages. In order to get proper hyphenation, I should define English as main language and tag all Greek in the text. This is a lot of work. How can I have line numbers in the line notes? In both line notes groups, there can be many notes that come from the same line. Would it be possible that the number is only printed on the first note from each line? I mean, instead of having: 1 lugar: place 1 nombre: name 2 querer:want 2 acordarse: remember it would be extremely helpful to have the following option: 1 lugar: place nombre: name 2 querer:want acordarse: remember How could this be achieved? In the sample above, \significa is a kind of dictionary in each page. I wonder whether it would be possible for these notes to be displayed in two columns and alphabetically ordered. According to the ConTeXt Reference Manual, items can be displayed in columns and there is a sorting mechanism for lists, but I don't know how this could be applied to notes. Is this possible? wrong footnote number with latest beta

ConTeXt Standalone contents

I am currently in the process of moving the production of our journal and book series from MKII to MKIV and suspect that I now have items in my personal texmf folder that are no longer needed because they are included in the distribution installed using sh //first-setup.sh --modules=all. So I was wondering if there was a listing somewhere of the fonts that come ready to use with MKIV in the ConTeXt Standalone distribution. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have checked the wiki but have not yet found what I am looking for. Alan

Hi ConTeXt user's, Sorry about this question, but I want to find out to whom I should turn with the ConTeXt problem I have? I've started two threads ('Cross-document referencing not working!' and 'Cross-document referencing: How to?!') recently dealing with a cross-document referencing problem, but didn't get suggestions on how to get it solved. Perhaps it's just a minor issue!? I got one confirmation of the problem running a simple test file. This feature (described in detail in "This Way", sep 2011 (http://pragma-ade.com/show-mag-15.htm)) is critical for a project I'd like to start! But maybe this is not the right place to ask questions like these, but where should I go, if that's indeed the case? Maybe I'm not patient enough! Regards, Gerard Verhaag

Hi there, I have just installed the latest beta using ConTeXt Standalone. Many thanks for the great work. I have a question: the wiki explains that the system fonts should be set in Linux with "export OSFONTDIR="/usr/local/share/fonts;$HOME/.fonts" (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Standalone#Font-Dir) It should be set after "# TODO: we could set OSFONTDIR on Mac for example", but I'm afraid I don't have such a line on my tex/setuptex file. Hi, in yesterday’s Context, text backgrounds between floats cover the highlighted text (text is still there, but behind the color layer). bug with footnotes in latest beta?

It seems like the beta version doesn't understand \setupdescriptions. This works fine with the stable. Has the command been replaced with another one? How to make Figure captions justify if long?

Hello, The title is not self explaining, I'll try to do this. My layout style require that table or figure captions stay centered only if short. If long, it needs that the caption be justified (like normal text, but less width). In LaTeX, I know that this works on article document class, like the pdf file I attached shows. -- Wagner Macedo

Questions on Table of Contents

Hey folks, I am familiar with the \completecontent command, but was wondering if there is a way to also typeset just a summary of the table of contents (e.g. just chapters and no sections, sub sections, etc.)? I've also noticed that all of the colours in my table of contents appear to be the same. I don't know if it has always been this way or if it is a recent bug or something has changed in ConTeXt. Regardless, I wonder if someone could tell me how to customize the colours of the various parts of the table of contents, such as the chapter/section number, the name, and the page number it starts on. Hi there, there is a zero-cost font (not available for commercial works without previous permission) from Brill (http://www.brill.nl/news/brill-typeface) Standard ligatures such as fi and fl don't work: \usemodule[simplefonts] \definefontfeature[default][default][script=latn] \setmainfont[Brill] \starttext fi fl ff ffi ffl \stoptext The glyphs are defined (ﬀ, ﬁ, ﬂ, ﬃ, ﬄ), but when I test ligatures with FontForge (Ctrl+K) these glyphs aren't used and single substitution lookups in different subtables are performed for the different ligatures (actually no ligatures are used). Sorry, my explanation isn't as accurate as it should. I'm not a font expert, but Substitutions can be browsed in FontForge selecting the glyph info (Ctrl+I). xtables: vertical stretch

Hi, After going through the suggested reading "This Way", sep 2011 (http://pragma-ade.com/show-mag-15.htm) in relation to this topic it was time to do some tests! Well, I stumbled on the very first basic problem! Using the \useexternalfile[logical_name][filename] resulted in an Undefined control sequence ... error message!? Problem with letter module

Hi, I am writing a letter with the 'letter' module (mkiv and last beta) and the \encl{} command doesn't work anymore. I know that the module has been rewriten recently but I can't find any doc or examples of the new syntax. I tried to look at the source code but it doesn't help. A5 on A4 - top/left-corner of A5 should be 0,0

Hello I have put an A5-page on A4-paper. And then I put a cow on to the page ... but it should be on the top/left-corner of the A5-page instead of the A4-page: I know, one posibility would be to use x=... and y=... in \definelayer. fakebold not working

Graphics positioning problems in current/recent betas

I have been studying the Details manual and have found that many of the examples presented there do not work correctly with the current or recent betas. The ones I have tested work correctly on texshow and with the Texlive 2011 (MkIV Luatex) version. 1.
