That printing house demands expecially this: PDF file must be version *1.3* Embed the typeface in the document along with the image data. Avoid using OPI commentaries! The typefaces used may be of the following standards: * Type1*, *TrueType*, *and Opentype*. As a matter of principle, the data is provided as a composite (not separated). Formats other than PDF are accepted only after prior agreement. The PDF provided file should especially not contain any kind of meta-information, hypertext link, etc. Everyone in printing industry *knows* what does it mean "to embed fonts", it is similar like when somebody wants pdf x-1a file (in printing industry the standard). I am not a programmer, I don't know what does it mean in a code point of view. Trust me, embedding of fonts is the standard ("if you are not able to provide us the file as we need, your client should find another typesetter" - who typesets in InDesign). InDesign subsets typically just fonts used for texts where is not used 100 % of alphabet (pdf export settings). Honza P. S. Some inspiration could maybe provide the Scribus, it has nice pdf export possibilities, better than InDesign itself! P. P. S. Font embedding

Hi, does anybody know how to really embed fonts into a pdffile? I have checked and read many conversations on that topic here but without the real solution (just a tons of arguments about "how problematic/unethic it could be"… and so on). I know well MKIV subsets all fonts. Yes, it is really good but it does not satisfy 99 % of modern printing offices. Embedding of all fonts is very typical demand of them. I really need it, sometimes it is not good or possible to discuss with a printing office "why to use my file instead of the one you are demanding". I will appreciate any info. Thanks, Honza Hejzl

solution for missing bookmark (minimal example)

Hi Hans I managed to narrow down my example to just one bibliography, no index, no register, nothing fancy. If I run this example with a pre-Feb.2012 version (say 2012.01.16), then the bookmarks FIVE, SIX and SEVEN do not work. If you run this minimal example with all your tracing magic, can't you find where the bug hides (that was part of MkIV at least since May 2011 and vanished no more than with your experimental February 2012 versions)? Linebreak between Chapter Number and Name

Hi, I am trying to format a chapter heading so that there is a linebreak between the number and the name. The only way I managed to do this is this: \setuphead[ chapter][command=\ChapTitle] \def\ChapTitle#1#2% {\framed[height=2cm,width=broad]{#1\\#2} } But this limits me to a fixed height for the frame. This doesn't work if I don't set a fixed height, which would be a problem with longer chapter names that need linebreaks. What is the correct way to do this? Thank you, Marc Trius.

Strange mixing of lists (figures, tables etc.) and lists of bibliography

Hello ConTeXist. Here is my next problem. You see it in minimal example. When I put link to bibliography to caption of figure, then list of bibliography consist caption of figure ... What I am doing wrong? In MKII and former versions of MKIV it worked OK. Hello, I have a rather large table that I have to typeset. It needs to be rotated 90 to fit and will span several pages. Any help in solving this issue would be appreciated. Also, I began to look at the linetable solution but could not find any documentation. Is there anyway to tell how to use this mode? Problem with \writebetweenlist

Hello ConTeXist, Just a minute ago I upgraded my standalone version ConTeXt (minimals) to last version. It stopped writing to the table of contents with \writebetweenlist (implemented using a macro \rtitle). In my latest version of ConTeXt minimals, everything worked OK. Ii there any problem with expansion ?? What could it be? Hi all, While testing some XITS symbols, I was wondering about the spacing of the following symbols: \setupbodyfont[xits] \starttext $$a < b$$ # reference $$a ⨼ b$$ $$a ⨽ b$$ $$a ⪝ b$$ $$a ⪞ b$$ $$a ⪬ b$$ $$a ⪭ b$$ \stoptext Not sure about the first two, but I think the rest should be mathrel (additionally, does anyone knows a definite Unicode reference for such proprieties?) Problem with math!

Hi ConTeXt users, Currently I'm experiencing problems with inline math mode in combination with the addff{oldstyle} command! The attached test file doens't compile with the latest version 2012.2.18 (MkIV), which seems to be caused by the introduction of the $\bullet$! With older versions this worked okay! Collision of sectioning and bibliography?

Hello ConTeXist. After two years I recreate a larger project (that was created using the MKII) and convert it into MKIV. And I ran into some major problems. I try to describe it and ask you about help. Collisions of sectioning and bibliography: When put into the document sections (using \section{} or \title{} commands), bibliography stops working and the error will appear in the bibliography links (Error2) and a list of the bibliography does not list. What I am doing wrong? Preparing the print: ICC-Profiles, Fogra, (in german untranslatable)

My book is ready and I want to print it next week. 1. The printer told me to set up my PDF with the following values: PDF/X-1a:2003, ISO Coated v2 (ECI) 2. And I did: \setupbackend [format=PDF/X-1a:2003, intent={ISO Coated v2 (ECI)}] 3. Then I send a test-PDF to my printer and got the following answer: 4. The printers answer in german: Die Ausgabebedingung ist mit FOGRA 39 hinterlegt. Dadurch erscheint eine falsche Farbvoransicht. FOGRA 39 sind "nur" Charakterisierungsdaten zur Erzeugung von ICC-Profilen für die entsprechenden Ausgabebedingungen. Wenn die Bilddaten in den "ISO Coated v2 (ECI)" Farbraum separiert wurden, sollte dieser am Besten hier als Name hinterlegt werden. Die Kennung der Ausgabebedingung wäre "Fogra 39". I failed trying to translate this answer into english. I hope there is someone here who understands the german answer. Regards Jannis

Formula number conversion

Incorrect rendering of * with UTF math fonts

Hi, Using * in superscripts gives wrong glyph size and spacing. For example, with LM math everyhing looks fine: \starttext $x^*$ vs $x^{\ast}$ \stoptext With Cambria, the result is OK (but you can still see the differences in the spacing of * in x^*) \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmathfont[Cambria] \starttext $x^*$ vs $x^{\ast}$ \stoptext With Neo Euler, $x^*$ look really bad. \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmathfont[Cambria] \starttext $x^*$ vs $x^{\ast}$ \stoptext I cannot figure out why this is happening. Getting changing/random graphics?

Hello all, I'm trying to do something that should be possible and I think "variables" is the answer, I just can't figure out how. I have a pile of photos (jpg) in a directory and the assumption is that they are all the same size and there's a spot for the photo on a layer at the top of the page. I already found out how I can get ConTeXt to draw the layer separately for each page (at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/layers#Use_dynamic_content) but I think I need a "variables for dummies" page... This time I'm not too picky, the images can be used randomly or in the order they are in the directory and then cycled, I'd just like to use more than one (and I'm so not doing every page by hand). So, if I have photo1.jpg photo2.jpg photo3.jpg photo4.jpg and \dorecurse{10}{insert random photo here}, how do I do it? Thank you, Mari

Dynamic content on layers - wiki example not working

Hello! I'm trying to place dynamic content on a layer and now it turns out that while getting a different pic every time is easy, getting the layers redrawn wasn't that simple. The wiki has this code: \definelayer [pagenumber] [width=\paperwidth, height=\paperheight, preset=middle, state=repeat] \setlayer[pagenumber]{Page \pagenumber} \setupbackgrounds[page][background=pagenumber] \starttext \dorecurse{4}{\page[empty]} \stoptext AFAIK, that should be a complete minimal sample. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work, at least my ConTeXt MkIV of February 8 only gives "Page 1" on every one of those 4 pages... How to fix this? Preferably on the "Dummies" level, I'd prefer not to see the bowels of my ConTeXt, if I can avoid it. Thanks, Mari

How to start every new chapter on page 1!?

Hi ConTeXt Users, I'd like to start every chapter on page one. The footer should contain the chapter number followed by the page number. So page three of chapter 10, should read something like 10-3. I was thinking way=bychapter in the \setuppagenumbering command would do the trick. However I see no change at all when changing the way parameter from the default mypart to mychapter! Any hints on enumerating fillinlines? Below describes the request (I hope this fomats okay on forum) the answer lines align with the top line of the question and are in a margin column: 1. Here is a question. 1. __________ 2. Here is another question. If it wraps 2. __________ around the text should be in a block and the fillinline should be aligned with the first line of the question. Diagrams can also be part of the questions. I accomplish this in pdfLaTeX by defining command: \newcommand{\ansblank}{\leavevmode\marginpar{\labelenumi\hrulefill\raggedright\par}} So, in enumerate environment \item\ansblank does the the trick. My inexperienced attempts with ConTeXt make a terrible hash of it. Thanks.

random bookmarks not linked (with example)

Hi Hans, finally I managed to figure out a "minimal" 3 page example that can reproduce this strange bug! It seems to be an interaction of \cite and \index with sectioning/bookmark generation: Please run "chap_1.tex" and click on the bookmark "1.1.2 SIX" ... no destination is set. (As I explained before, this does not mean that anything strange is going on at \subsection{SIX}. If the minimal file was longer, the missing link would have been somewhere else.) If I delete the used \index entries the bug is gone. And if I delete the used \mycite commands the bug is gone, too. I hope this test file might help ... Steffen -------

Here you have the minimal sample: \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupcombinedlist[content][interaction=all] \setuplist[part][alternative=g] \setuplist[chapter][alternative=d] \starttext \completecontent \part{part} \chapter{chapter} \part{part} \stoptext The second \part should start a new line. I now that you told me that I was misusing “alternative=g”, because it was meant for interactive documents (but this is exactly what I have). Sorry, but since I got no reply, I'm still wondering whether this is a bug or an illegitimate use of “alternative=g”. Would you be so kind to explain what is wrong here. I would like to prepare some student material in epub format and tried the "export-example.tex" as follows: - context export-example (by the way, gives an error with the latest beta, not with 2011.12.19 22:53, but produces the output; shouldn't matter here). - mtxrun --script epub --make export-example (tells me "sh: 7z: command not found", but produces an epub file. Zipping manually doesn't make a difference). In Calibre, only the text appears -- no paragraphs or anything else. The same happens when I try a minimal example with just paragraphs, bold, italic and sections. Most likely I misunderstood something, or is epub support still too preliminary (see http://wiki.contextgarden.net/epub)? I'm using current version: 2012.02.16 09:55 on a Mac (Lion). Thanks, Jörg

Hi, I uploaded a beta. Apart from some fixes, the biggest change is in dealing with positional info and text backgrounds (first stage cleanup). As I have no clue to what extend users mess around with background graphics themselves, it's hard to predict side effects, but the biggest impact is speed. The adventurous might want to try out \setuptextbackground [mp=mpos:par:region, method=mpos:par:region] or with some more visual tracing \setuptextbackground [mp=mpos:par:region:kind, method=mpos:par:region] A simple test with some 200 backgrounds brings down runtime with one second on my machine (not the fastest anyway). Apart from a performance gain, backgrounds are now also supported in regular multicolumns as well as in some specific mechanisms like tabulate and xtables. In xtables one needs to set region=yes in order to get the desired results. Actually, the region key is a new one in framed so anything that can be framed can also have fancy text backgrounds. Yet another improvement is that (although rather untested) you can do things like \starttextbackground[r] START \dorecurse{10}{ \dorecurse{1}{\input ward } \placefigure[right]{}{} some text before BEGIN \dorecurse{2}{\input ward } END some after \placefigure[left]{}{} some text before BEGIN \dorecurse{2}{\input ward } END some after \placefigure[right]{}{} some text before BEGIN \dorecurse{2}{\input ward } END some after } STOP \stoptextbackground \dorecurse{1}{\input ward } and get more or less expected results. Keep in mind that it can never get perfect due to all kind of possible interference. Also, keep away from internals as they will quite certainly change.
