Hello, someone here on a sunday? I want to have a PDF-screen-version of my booklet: The book has 8 pages including the coverpages. Cross-referencing Challenge

Hey All: I am very new to ConTeXt, but I am trying to use it to achieve a format similar to what you can get from WEB systems. Right now I am working on the definitions of chunks and their cross references. I have three main macros: \defchunk Definining a new chunk \chunk Referencing a chunk by name \stopchunk Ending a chunk definition Here is an example: \defchunk{This is a name} Some text /BTEX\chunk{Other stuff}/ETEX goes here. And here. \stopchunk \defchunk{Other stuff} Something else \stopchunk \defchunk{This is a name} Some other stuff. \stopchunk Now, at the end, let's say that each of these appears in sections 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The output I am looking for, in Unicode, might look like this: ⟨This is a name 1⟩≡ Some text ⟨Other stuff 2⟩ goes here. And here. ── See also section 3. ⟨Other stuff 2⟩≡ Something else ── This code is used in section 1. ⟨This is a name 1⟩≡ Some other stuff. ── So here, there are really three things that I want to achieve. I need to be able to get a list of all of the sections wherein a given chunk is referenced using \chunk, a list of all the sections where a section of the same name is defined, and finally, be able to tell in which section the first occurrence of a chunk is defined. Index setup

Hi all! Better late than never, you'll say, because I've just started using MkIV... :-) I have some troubles setupping an index and the options I try using from the (old) ConTeXt manual don't help or seem to have no effect. So basically, I have this: \starttext \chapter{Ch1} \index{abc}abc \index{bcd}bcd \index{def}def \chapter{Ch2} \index{wxy}wxy \index{xyz}xyz \index{zzz}zzz \page \setupregister[index][indicator=no] \placeindex \stoptext That works. But I'm trying to do two things here and I'll be damned if the info can be found somewhere. I've tried my best to find it, but to no avail... So: 1) I'd like a single list with no blank lines in between letters (I've already removed the indicator, but I'm stuck there). 2) I'm trying to align the pagenumber on the right side of the column. Should be easy, but...?! I'm truly sorry if these questions are easy to answer, but I'm clueless here, alas! And hey, I've recently completed a thesis that was wholly done with MKII. Break links into items in the itemize list

Hello all Once again I return to this issue. Lukas confirmed me that really links do not work. Where is error when links into items in the itemize list are not working. Links are active but not working... It is interesting that the chapter on the links when hovering tooltip will appear with the page number where the link leads, not the case for the line item. Paragraph width in table of contents

Hi, In the following example, the section titles are long. In the table of contents, the section titles are written like normal paragraph (ending at the right margin, with the page number). With an older version of Context beta (about a year ago), the paragraphs with the section title were shorter and not overlapping with the page number. How can I obtain again that property? Hello, A follow-up on the solution \startpostponing [+0] \startplacefigure … \stopplacefigure \stoppostponing As a side effect, one then needs to be careful to surround ALL placefigures with \startpostponing[+0]\stoppostponing, even those that occur after a paragraph end (where one is not concerned about adding a paragraph break), else the floating figures may get placed out of order, e.g. figure 4 before figure 3. As this makes for somewhat sloppy tex files, should not placefigure/table/other get FIXED so as not to introduce a paragraph break? gnuplot not working

Hi all, Is there a problem with gnuplot? I get an error with the minimal example on the wiki. I think the generated .plt file has an error; it works if I manually delete the "fontscale 1" bit and run context on test-gnuplot-1.tmp. Using latest beta, tried with current official gnuplot as well as mojca-patched version. \ref not working in current Ctx?

Hello, the wiki example doesn't work on my computer, although the wiki result seems OK: ---- \starttext See page \ref[p][myref 1] and \ref[p][myref 2]. \page \reference[myref 1]{MyRef1} This is the first reference. \page \reference[myref 2]{MyRef2} This is the second one. \stoptext ---- The result is: "See page and .", i.e. missing numbers of referred pages. \BibTeX usage

Hey list, I assumed that there was some macro akin to \CONTEXT for the BibTeX module, and I believe there is, \BibTeX. The problem is it isn't recognized when I attempt to compile my document with it. Is there a module that must be included or something else one must do? But my trials give just: ---- XXXXX bla bla blablabl bla bla. = "alternative=hanging" - unwanted Or: XXXXX bla bla blabla bl bla bla. = Lines after head are not indented; unwanted. ---- Does \description support any options to get the required shape? Dump table of contents

Hey list, Is it possible to instruct ConTeXt to generate just the table of contents, skipping all other front matter, back matter, appendices, body matter, etc.? For example, only the following I'd like to see in the outputted PDF: % Contents at a glance... \title{Contents at a Glance} \placelist[chapter] % Complete table of contents... \title{Table of Contents} \placecontent Right now I am generating the full book, but then passing through pdftk manually to extract just the pages that fall within the aforementioned. issue with columns

Hi there, I'm experiencing a weird result when typesetting columns: \starttext The first line not using columns. \startcolumns[n=2] \input knuth \column \input tufte \stopcolumns The second line not using columns. \startcolumns \input linden \column \input ward \stopcolumns \stoptext I don't know why ward isn't typeset on the first page? index for Japanese alphabet

Hi, I would like to include an index with Japanese terms, ordered according to the Japanese alphabet. I can say \index[kanji]{漢字} for an entry under K. For my Japanese index I imagine \index[かんじ]{漢字} to place an entry under か. Is something like this possible? The Japanese alphabet fits (almost) into a 5x10 table. Depending on the size of the index, it is customary to order an index either by column only (for a smaller index) or by table entry (top-to-bottom, right-to-left). I'd be happy with either, although the smaller one will probably suffice for my purposes... Any help on how to implement this? Many thanks, as always, Severin

Issues with linetables

There are some issues with linetables. One-page linetables work fine. starting batch file after first of at least two runs

Hi, In the first run I collect several ImageMagick commands in a common batch file, which should be executed afterwards. A second run is also needed to include the created graphics. I tried \appendtoks\mycommand\to\everygoodbye but that does not work properly, if only one run is needed otherwise. So I need to tell ConTeXt somehow, that an additional run is needed (adding the number of runs to the command line is no option). Currently I use if tex.modes["*first"] then ... end to detect the first run. My first try was to add an 'else' condition to call the batch file once, but sadly this is also not triggered in case of a single run... What is the official way (mkiv) to add a call at the end of the first run (or the beginning of the second run)? And how can I ensure, that a second run is forced? Peter

colon in lucida math

I get the impression there is something wrong with typesetting math with the lucida setup in ConTeXt. I find that the \colon is not printed. Below is a minimal example. See the colon in the first formula that is absent in the second. Perhaps someone is willing to check if this is ConTeXt in general or my own setup in particular. In both cases I will be pleased with a remedy. Pagereference not working!?

Nested itemize

Hello, is there an option for \startitemize or \setupitemize or \setupitemgroup: ---- \startitemize \item A \startitemize \item B \stopitemize \stopitemize ---- to get: 1. A 1.1 B (= nested item has its parent numbers, too) or rather 1. A 1.1 B (= nested item has its parent numbers, too; no indenting of nested items) instead of 1. A 1. B (= normal result) ? Sorting descriptions alphabetically

Hi all, I have a chapter with a bunch of definitions. I defined myself a description for that purpose, as in: \definedescription[definition][alternative=hanging, headstyle=bold, align=flushleft, style=normal, width=fit, margin=1cm] My definitions obviously come out in the order I defined them in the .tex file. I was just wondering whether there is some clever way to have generated in alphabetic order. I could obviously sort them myself in the .tex file, but if there was some way ConTeXt could handle that, that would be very convenient given the number I am dealing with. Thank you, Malte.

Cross-document referencing problem!

Hi ConTeXt User's, Again I'm struggling with cross-document referencing! The page of the \pagereference[def] command is shown correctly in the pdf result of the attached test.tex file using \at{page}[def]! However when I refer to this reference using \at{page}[tst::def] from the external document crossref.pdf only the 'page' string is displayed in it, but no sign of the page number. Clicking the page string brings me to the correct location, but I'm missing the pagenumber itself? Both tex-files (minimal example!) files are attached! Regards, Gerard Verhaag P.S. I want cited bib items only in my bibliography

Dear list, What is the right way today to get only the cited items in the bibliography? I have some problems doing this. With the test file % Start mps.tex \usemodule[bib] \setupbibtex[database=referenser] \starttext Foo~\cite[anno]. \subject{References} \placepublications[] % I've read somewhere that this should work %\placepublications[criterium=all] \stoptext % Stop mps.tex I get an [[error 2]] in the pdf file where the citation is supposed to be. Also, the References list is empty. If I change \placepublications[] to \placepublications[criterium=all] I get all entries in my bib file, even the ones that are not cited. Hello all, What is the problem when \doteq math symbol is hidden in standalone ConTeXt (minimals) - latest version? I suppose that is a problem in mathematical font. Can this be solved? In ConTeXt MKIV TL2011 everything runs normally. Troubles with paragraph width in tabulate

Hi, I think there is a bug in the tabulate environment. When setting two columns with the p template without giving a width, all is well. However is I set the paragraph width to a specific value things go wrong. Citation of two books with extra information

Hi all, is it possible to cite two books and include page information for each of them. To give an example I'm looking for something like \cite[extras={, p. 123}, extras={, p. 456}][BookOne:2000, BookTwo:1900] which should be processed as (BookOne Authors, 2000, p. 123 and BookTwo Authors, 1900, p. 456) This does not work because the first "extras" is overridden with the second. It's possible to append Information to the second citation but not to the first or to both. Any suggestions how I might achieve this? Thanks! Steffen

Greetings all, The document element exported by this small example appears to be prematurely closed. Removing either the footnote or the second chapter will hide the problem. Do I have something wrong here? Hi, this is the first time I am writing here so let me just say a big THANK YOU for all the awesome work everyone is doing. Now, to the point. I have been trying to customize table of contents with my own commands, yet I get an error that might be from within ConTeXt. The cutomary minimal example follows: \define[3]\M{#3 some #2 magic #1} \setuplist[section][alternative=command,command=\M] \starttext \section{A} \completecontent \stoptext and the error from the log: ConTeXt ver: 2012.03.30 16:16 MKIV fmt: 2012.4.2 int: english/english ............ ! sorting footnotes alphabetically

Hi there, I read in strc-not.mkvi that footnotes can be treated as lists. And the reference manual deals in section 12.3 with sorting lists. My basic sample is the following: \definenote[dict] \setupnotation[dict][number=no] \starttext This is my dictionary\dict{dictionary: vocabulario} command\dict{command: orden} for a complex\dict{complex: complejo} text\dict{text: texto}. \stoptext What I'm trying to achieve is that the \dict footnotes are sorted alphabetically. Adding the code from sorted lists, I get the following: \definesorting[meaning][meanings] \setupsorting[meaning][criterium=all] \definenote[dict] \setupnote[dict][number=no,command=\placelistofmeanings] \setupnotation[dict][number=no,command=\meaning] \starttext This is my dictionary\dict{dictionary: vocabulario} command\dict{command: orden} for a complex\dict{complex: complejo} text\dict{text: texto}. \stoptext It compiles fine, but the footnotes aren't alphabetically sorted. hi all, would a kind soul please enlighten me about the new footnote commands? I can't find a way to achieve what I was able to achieve in older versions. The following code is on the wiki. It is supposed to give us the footnote marker aligned with the text area, then some blank space, then the footnote text: \definepapersize[wiki][width=8cm,height=8cm] \setuppapersize[wiki][wiki] \starttext \showframe \setupnote[footnote][margindistance=0em,command=\myfootnotecommand] \setupnotation[footnote][location=left,hang=1] \def\myfootnotecommand#1{\hbox to 1.5em{#1.}} test \footnote{test} \stoptext It doesn't work with the current beta, and I' completely lost about \setupnote[footnote] \setupnotation[footnote] \setupfootnotes What is doing what now? setupinterlinespace top and height relations

hi all, As a grid system fetishist, I would like to align the top of my first line with the top of the layout frame. Using try and error (still a context newbie) I managed this by "\setupinterlinespace [height=.5, top=.7]". this seems strange to me, because i was expecting that the argument top is the only one that controls \topskip. Figures alignment on grid

Hello ConTeXists, My questions are still without any response. I am not sure why, maybe they are not clearly explained. I have found two problems about figures: 1) It is impossible to achieve proper text wrapping around figure when the GRID is ON.
