align and location in \setupcombination

Dear all, In the output of the following sample, figures are left flushed. I found some discussions about the align and location in \setupcombination. "align=" is for caption and "location=middle" is for figures' location. But "align= " worked while "location= " has no effect at all. So I have to enclose \startcombination … \stopcombination in \placefigure[][]{}. How to locate the combined figures at the horizontal center? Thank you for reading. Search path for .tex files (mkiv)

Hi, What is the correct way to set or modify the search path for tex files? I want to make it mode-dependent. For example, for figures I have something like \doifmode{en} {\def\FigDirLanguage{fig/lang_en}\def\DocumentSuffix{EN}\mainlanguage[en]} \doifmode{de} {\def\FigDirLanguage{fig/lang_de}\def\DocumentSuffix{DE}\mainlanguage[de]} [...] \setupexternalfigures[directory={fig,{\FigDirLanguage},{../fig},{../\FigDirLanguage}}] I want to be able to do for example \input disclaimer And have it use the correct version. (There are more complicated scenarios too). In case there is a better way to do it, what I want is to have language- or mode- specific versions of some "boilerplate" texts. These would be in individual files. Documents elsewhere in a directory tree could reference these using a standard name and it would be picked according to the set language/mode. Hi, There do not seem to be translations for the labels for Chinese, is that correct? emtpy TOC (beta)

Hi, I get an empty TOC for my document with the latest beta (works with 2012-10-19). I have deleted the *.tuc file (just to be sure), but still no TOC after a fresh run. Sorry, no small example yet. The document is the draft documentation of a not yet published module (won't compile without the module files). No time to look deeper into this, as I have to finish the documentation... Peter

Does it work as same as \midaligned? \startcontent … \stopcontent, \startcaption … \stopcaption seem to me a new commands. Is every command in ConTeXt changed as a form of "\start … \stop"? Creating a background texture with text/graphic

Hello all! While staring at the pile of ConTeXt instruction book(let)s on my desk, I realized that I should be able to use a logo or a text to create a background texture to use in scrapbooking and cardcraft. The problem is that my skills don't quite stretch that far and I can't remember where I once saw the code for this... The logo I'm thinking of is originally an Inkscape svg file that I've this far used in ConTeXt in pdf format. Other available and compatible vector formats are at least plain svg, ps eps and pdf. Possible solution 1: to insert the logo in MetaPost and use loops, rotate, shft and randomize to create a texture. Loop+shift would make a nice alternating background, randomized with loop and 90degree rotation steps would make a denser texture. The problem: I don't know how to input the logo graphic into Metapost code. This did not work, even though the pdf is in the same directory: externalfigure "vaaka-logo.pdf" scaled 1cm; Don't know if I'm missing something here, this snippet comes from the MetaFun manual p. 199. Unfortunately I don't have pstoedit on my Mac, so the conversion trick on page 198 doesn't work for me. For text there're more ideas and I think I can handle that based on MetaFun manual p. 92 + randomize, but with the external figure I'm at loss on how to do it. Possible solution 2: ConTeXt. Insert here some code I don't have a clue about. Might be ConTeXt only or ConTeXt and Metapost/Metafun together. Inserting the graphic is no big deal in this case, \externalfigure will do that. (I got almost what I wanted by tweaking an older label/imposition file, but I have some weird margin issues there and the positioning system is not very exact and there are a bit too many things that affect the layout. I'd rather put stuff on a grid than just tweak it with the location and margin settings. That's the Word way, in the long run not the smartest way of doing things. I'm planning to use this feature a lot, so I'd rather code something that stands for longer.) Feel free to point me towards the correct wiki pages, my problem may just be that I cannot come up with the correct search term, "background" is not a very good one. And of some reason the garden is not very good at scrapbooking terms (yet). ;-) Note. On the moment I have no need to put text on top of those textures, and I'm not worried about that bit anyway, layers usually work nicely there. Now I'm interested into creating a "personilized" background texture onto which I can e.g. glue a chipboard shape or paper flower or a bit of glitter. It feels stupid to pay for so called digital stamps/textures/backgrounds when I have the tools to create some myself. Running text is easy, but using and reusing one logo would be more fun. :-) Thanks, Mari

Possibilities for basso continuo figures in a text-line disappeared?

Hello, The code for including basso continuo figures in a text, added somewhere between may and august this year: \definelow[MyLow][style=\txx,frame=off] \definehigh[MyHigh][style=\txx,frame=off] \definelowhigh[MyLoHi][style=\txx,frame=off] \definelowmidhigh[MyLoMiHi][style=\txx,frame=off] is unfortunately no longer recognized in the minimals I installed today (29-10). Multipass Datasets doesn't work

\setuplayout question

Hello, what is the *default* layout? (I am especially interested in bottomspace - in page-lay.mkiv I found bottomspace=0pt, but this seems not to be the case - even after \setupfooter[state=stop] text does not go to the bottom of the sheet. Problems with sectionreset key for \setuphead

Hi Hans, there are a few problems with the sectionreset key for \setuphead. In the example below I can only create continues numbers for \section when I “default” as name for \defineresetset (Method 1) or when I apply my own set to the global setups (Method 2). How to set the whole document flush left?

Hi, I'd like to have all my document set flush left. I know how to set a \framed flush left, or \startalign ... \stopalign - but what about the whole? (In my current case, the document is basically a (mid-aligned) title and then one big itemgroup, so I added [align={right,broad}] to the \startitemize - but what about the general case? \raggedright did not work, at least for the itemization.) The on-going process of the Proceedings for Context Meeting 2011

Hello all! It's been very quiet in regards to the Context Group's first publication, the Proceedings for Context Meeting 2011. We've been hammering out the details of a new design and house style with Adrian Egger. This process is almost complete, and we are very excited for you all to see the inspiring new design! But there is, of course, the issue of getting the final content together for this issue. And here is where I need the help of those who agreed at last year's meeting to submit an article for the proceedings: We would like to publish this years proceedings along with last years in a double edition. I've lost the list of those who wanted to submit last year, so if you remember being one of those nice and awesome people, please consider writing up a short article and sending it! *Of course we also welcome any Context-related articles! *There has been a lot of cool stuff happening in the community over the last year, and it would be great to have some further documentation on them. A very warm thanks to those of you who sent me material already--know that it was not in vain, and that your work will indeed be published. The *deadline for submission is 1 November*, with the double-edition proceedings landing on doorsteps in time for the winter holidays. Math Overruns Background

Hello, I'm trying to typeset an exam with solutions in framed or shaded boxes, using \background. However, the background doesn't stretch to the bottom of the text area when there is text preceding it, so if there is enough math inside the background, the math overruns its lower bound. How can I get everything to stay inside the background? A minimal example: \starttext \input knuth \startbackground \input knuth \dorecurse{20}{\startformula \sum_{i=0}^5 i \stopformula} \stopbackground \stoptext I've tried some of the options in \setupbackground with no luck, and have also tried Googling for an answer. Thanks to all who gave a nice solutions. To write a big matrix of unknowns A=(a_{ij}) is not a frequent case. In math, there are many occasions to write matrices which need some typing work like \NC 2 \NC 3 \NC 4 \NR So if we have a function which write a matrix when the data is given as a form of table in Lua. There are other benefits. Sometimes, we may have to write a series matrices which are the results of the some row operations in matrix. We can also handle it conveniently because we can do some calculations in Lua. If there is a way to convey some table data from ConTeXt to Lua, it would be more convenient. A problem with \blank

Good evening, I have something like this in my document: \startalignment[middle] ... \stopalignment \startitemize ... \stopitemize and I want some (more) vertical space in between them. Adding a \blank[big] (and even a \blank[big,force]) didn't help. Interestingly, \leavevmode\blank[big] did. What is going on? What is the "canonical" way to achieve what I want to have? A few questions about itemizations

Namely, the vertical space before (a) ... does not appear when using \startsubitems. Why is that so? When I want to put the vertical space before the first subitem by means of before={\blank[small]}, nothing happens. Also, is \startitem ... \stopitem really better than \item ...? (Apart from the case when I use the [random] option.) And finally: what is the difference between "right=)" and "stopper=)"? Section/head with separate numbering and references

Hello, I'm working on a document with both chapter/section numbering, and a 'topic' whose numbers are sequential across the entire document. I found a solution to enable this from a 2003 thread in the archives ("Creating list with separate numbering", 15 April 2003), but I can't seem to get references to work. I've looked through the archives, read The TeXbook, and browsed the ConTeXt source but can't quite figure out how to make this work. Dear Gesang and Hans, Your solution is working nicely. I may use lua to simplify my other work. I'd like to ask you one more thing. I tried to write a matrix using MetaFun to add some graphics as following: label(btex $a_{11}$ etex, ( , )); label(btex $a_{12}$ etex, ( , )); label(btex $a_{13}$ etex, ( , )); … label(btex $a_{3,3}$ etex, ( , )); Since the same command is repeated, I tested to use "for" iteration. But I couldn't succeed. It is OK to use the variable as a text but I couldn't find a way to use a variable as a subscript. For example, for i=1 unto 3: label(btex decimal(i) etex, (x,y)); endfor; is OK. But, for i=1 upto 3: label(btex $a_{i}$ etex, (x,y)); endfor; or for i=1 upto 3: label(btex $a_{deciaml(i)}$ etex, (x,y)); endfor; are not working as I wanted. In my document I have switched from "\text{ }" to "\normal", which works. Hi there, I have the following settings for a document. \setupinterlinespace[line=3.2ex] \setupwhitespace[medium] But I would like to have diferent values for interlinear space and between paragraphs. strc-not.mkvi shows that the after option from \setupnotation does the work with the space between paragraphs. Serious problems with kerning in setlayerframed

Hello, I have some serious issues with kerning in MKIV, so I'll probably have to end up with MKII after all. Some odd behaviour I noticed in MkIV with respect to enumerations

Hello everyone, I was going through a tutorial to learn how to set up theorem-like environments in ConTeXt: http://www.ntg.nl/maps/36/09.pdf and I noticed a few strange behaviours. I recognize that this tutorial was written for MkII ConTeXt, but after consulting the documentation in the latest ConTeXt manual and the wiki, I have determined that these features should still work. I'm looking at the "list" functionality of enumerations and descriptions. In MkII, you can do the following: \defineenumeration[blah][ ... list=listname, listtext={Text goes here}] and every time the enumeration is used, it'll be placed in the list you specify. The tutorial referenced above uses this to place a list of theorems with proper naming and numbering, as well as lemmas and other math things. In MkIV, I noticed that this functionality doesn't work, or at least not in the same way. I was not able to do: \placelist[enumeration:listname] for example. I was able to do \placelist[blah], however. After scouring this mailing list and consulting the source code, I haven't been able to find anything that would give me this functionality in MkIV. Was this intentional, or is there another way to get this functionality back? The other strangeness I noticed was the "separator" option in defineenumeration. Suppressing Page Numbers

Hi, Thank you again for all the great help, I have received here in recent weeks; it is much appreciated. I have page numbering setup in my layout.tex environment file, which I use for all of our documents. % Show the page number in the middle of the footer \setuppagenumbering[ alternative=singlesided, location={header, margin}, style=bold, ] For a particular document, though, I don't want page numbers. Is there a way of locally suppressing the page numbers while still importing (via environment) the layout.tex file? I guess, what I am asking is, is there a way to "override" the setuppagenumbering setup locally? A workaround would be to have a second layout.tex file, just for this document, but I much prefer not to. Regards, Malte.

[test suite] Bibtex-related test fails to compile.

I've imported most of the testfiles kindly provided by Hans. Now the test suite has grown to ~900 files. I'm running them in chunks and I'll keep reporting, even if I don't need the feature. See below the log. progressive-005.tex picks a different LM font, but probably because I don't have the required fonts installed and it's using a different one as fallback (I don't know which one is supposed to be the good one, probably noone :-). The other differences are just due to different distances, so I'm promoting them to references. This means that the engine has to deal with traditional as well ad new mechanisms. In the process of developing luatex and mkiv, we went through several phases, one is that the italic correction had to be added to the width (a handicap is that luatex has to make some guesses, and the mkiv vf is a wide font on the one hand but still a traditional one). Anyhow, already quite a while ago, mkiv got two mechanisms to deal with italic correction, one for text and one for math (otf text fonts have no italic correction). Both mechanism can be configured to adapt themselves to the situation. For math we have 4 variants. \setupmathematics[italics=1] % fontitalics \setupmathematics[italics=2] % fontdata \setupmathematics[italics=3] % quad based \setupmathematics[italics=4] % combination of 1 and 3 \setupmathematics[italics=none] Depending on available italic info or the lack of it, correction is applied. Of course this can be improved. Once they are complete, we can make the new gyre math fonts default and some of the problems will go away. The virtuals will then be kept as an example of defining virtual fonts. Concerning the issue: i removed adding the italic correction to the width (something that was needed in a previous version of luatex). Test suite report

Hello there. Aditya added a couple of testfiles. Thanks a lot. I encourage anyone reporting bugs to send a minimal example to me too, via mail or via pull requests on github, so people running the tests can catch regressions. I modified the code, so a unique filename for each test is not required anymore. I promoted to references the PDF which have a minimal shifting, because they generated too much noise, but I left one just as a reminder of the different distance between columns. Hi, the `way` setting cannot be applied globally to all floats using `\setupcaptions`. For the `prefix` value it works.
