New module: crossref

Hi, after the feedback for my first module (pararef) and regarding my next upcoming module I decided to put crossref into its own module, so that it can be used by other modules or without any other module. http://modules.contextgarden.net/crossref Unluckily I forgot to fill out the filename field at the very beginning. scripts

Hi, I wasted a whole afternoon figuring out why a job that runs ok on many opensuse machines fails on a machine that runs a debian alpha distribution (customer demand). I already had to fix all kind of startup scripts due to the fact that sh(ell scripts) are run with dash which is incompatible so maybe I should have be more suspicious towards the os instead of trying to fix the tex end. Anyhow, one thing I noticed is that setuptex doesn't seem to work ok i.e. there is something wrong with determining $OWNPATH which makes the initialization fail. Maybe some volunteer can figure that out (there are some catches for other shells in the script too so adding yet another doesn't hurt). But, the biggest surprise (if I got it right) is that in some of the scripts that I use and run from within context, the to be produced results sometimes were there and sometimes not. This got obscured by the fact that in a second run the content actually was there (it has to be fetched from a remote database) but that code like "page \pagenumber\ of \lastpage" failed to report the right last page which in fact was a side effect of the first run not using content. Okay, it got somewhat more obscured by the fact that I used --runs=2 Accidentally, by adding more tracing code, I figured out is that I pipe the messages to a log file using &> which is pretty valid in bash but not so in dash where the & puts the job in the background and thereby let the tex run carry on without waiting. So, it looks like we need to use >filename 2>&1 instead of &>filename. I checked the scripts in the context tree and so far found no occurences but first-setup.sh has two &>'s in it that might need fixing. align and location in \setupcombination

Dear all, In the output of the following sample, figures are left flushed. I found some discussions about the align and location in \setupcombination. "align=" is for caption and "location=middle" is for figures' location. But "align= " worked while "location= " has no effect at all. So I have to enclose \startcombination … \stopcombination in \placefigure[][]{}. How to locate the combined figures at the horizontal center? Thank you for reading. Search path for .tex files (mkiv)

Hi, What is the correct way to set or modify the search path for tex files? I want to make it mode-dependent. For example, for figures I have something like \doifmode{en} {\def\FigDirLanguage{fig/lang_en}\def\DocumentSuffix{EN}\mainlanguage[en]} \doifmode{de} {\def\FigDirLanguage{fig/lang_de}\def\DocumentSuffix{DE}\mainlanguage[de]} [...] \setupexternalfigures[directory={fig,{\FigDirLanguage},{../fig},{../\FigDirLanguage}}] I want to be able to do for example \input disclaimer And have it use the correct version. (There are more complicated scenarios too). In case there is a better way to do it, what I want is to have language- or mode- specific versions of some "boilerplate" texts. These would be in individual files. Documents elsewhere in a directory tree could reference these using a standard name and it would be picked according to the set language/mode. emtpy TOC (beta)

Hi, I get an empty TOC for my document with the latest beta (works with 2012-10-19). I have deleted the *.tuc file (just to be sure), but still no TOC after a fresh run. Sorry, no small example yet. The document is the draft documentation of a not yet published module (won't compile without the module files). No time to look deeper into this, as I have to finish the documentation... Peter

Does it work as same as \midaligned? \startcontent … \stopcontent, \startcaption … \stopcaption seem to me a new commands. Is every command in ConTeXt changed as a form of "\start … \stop"? Creating a background texture with text/graphic

Hello all! While staring at the pile of ConTeXt instruction book(let)s on my desk, I realized that I should be able to use a logo or a text to create a background texture to use in scrapbooking and cardcraft. The problem is that my skills don't quite stretch that far and I can't remember where I once saw the code for this... The logo I'm thinking of is originally an Inkscape svg file that I've this far used in ConTeXt in pdf format. Other available and compatible vector formats are at least plain svg, ps eps and pdf. Possible solution 1: to insert the logo in MetaPost and use loops, rotate, shft and randomize to create a texture. Loop+shift would make a nice alternating background, randomized with loop and 90degree rotation steps would make a denser texture. The problem: I don't know how to input the logo graphic into Metapost code. This did not work, even though the pdf is in the same directory: externalfigure "vaaka-logo.pdf" scaled 1cm; Don't know if I'm missing something here, this snippet comes from the MetaFun manual p. 199. Unfortunately I don't have pstoedit on my Mac, so the conversion trick on page 198 doesn't work for me. For text there're more ideas and I think I can handle that based on MetaFun manual p. 92 + randomize, but with the external figure I'm at loss on how to do it. Possible solution 2: ConTeXt. Insert here some code I don't have a clue about. Might be ConTeXt only or ConTeXt and Metapost/Metafun together. Inserting the graphic is no big deal in this case, \externalfigure will do that. (I got almost what I wanted by tweaking an older label/imposition file, but I have some weird margin issues there and the positioning system is not very exact and there are a bit too many things that affect the layout. I'd rather put stuff on a grid than just tweak it with the location and margin settings. That's the Word way, in the long run not the smartest way of doing things. I'm planning to use this feature a lot, so I'd rather code something that stands for longer.) Feel free to point me towards the correct wiki pages, my problem may just be that I cannot come up with the correct search term, "background" is not a very good one. And of some reason the garden is not very good at scrapbooking terms (yet). ;-) Note. On the moment I have no need to put text on top of those textures, and I'm not worried about that bit anyway, layers usually work nicely there. Now I'm interested into creating a "personilized" background texture onto which I can e.g. glue a chipboard shape or paper flower or a bit of glitter. It feels stupid to pay for so called digital stamps/textures/backgrounds when I have the tools to create some myself. Running text is easy, but using and reusing one logo would be more fun. :-) Thanks, Mari

Hello, The code for including basso continuo figures in a text, added somewhere between may and august this year: \definelow[MyLow][style=\txx,frame=off] \definehigh[MyHigh][style=\txx,frame=off] \definelowhigh[MyLoHi][style=\txx,frame=off] \definelowmidhigh[MyLoMiHi][style=\txx,frame=off] is unfortunately no longer recognized in the minimals I installed today (29-10). Hello, what is the *default* layout? (I am especially interested in bottomspace - in page-lay.mkiv I found bottomspace=0pt, but this seems not to be the case - even after \setupfooter[state=stop] text does not go to the bottom of the sheet. Problems with sectionreset key for \setuphead

Hi Hans, there are a few problems with the sectionreset key for \setuphead. In the example below I can only create continues numbers for \section when I “default” as name for \defineresetset (Method 1) or when I apply my own set to the global setups (Method 2). How to set the whole document flush left?

Hi, I'd like to have all my document set flush left. I know how to set a \framed flush left, or \startalign ... \stopalign - but what about the whole? (In my current case, the document is basically a (mid-aligned) title and then one big itemgroup, so I added [align={right,broad}] to the \startitemize - but what about the general case? \raggedright did not work, at least for the itemization.) Hello all! It's been very quiet in regards to the Context Group's first publication, the Proceedings for Context Meeting 2011. We've been hammering out the details of a new design and house style with Adrian Egger. This process is almost complete, and we are very excited for you all to see the inspiring new design! But there is, of course, the issue of getting the final content together for this issue. And here is where I need the help of those who agreed at last year's meeting to submit an article for the proceedings: We would like to publish this years proceedings along with last years in a double edition. I've lost the list of those who wanted to submit last year, so if you remember being one of those nice and awesome people, please consider writing up a short article and sending it! *Of course we also welcome any Context-related articles! *There has been a lot of cool stuff happening in the community over the last year, and it would be great to have some further documentation on them. Math Overruns Background

Hello, I'm trying to typeset an exam with solutions in framed or shaded boxes, using \background. However, the background doesn't stretch to the bottom of the text area when there is text preceding it, so if there is enough math inside the background, the math overruns its lower bound. How can I get everything to stay inside the background? A minimal example: \starttext \input knuth \startbackground \input knuth \dorecurse{20}{\startformula \sum_{i=0}^5 i \stopformula} \stopbackground \stoptext I've tried some of the options in \setupbackground with no luck, and have also tried Googling for an answer. Thanks to all who gave a nice solutions. To write a big matrix of unknowns A=(a_{ij}) is not a frequent case. In math, there are many occasions to write matrices which need some typing work like \NC 2 \NC 3 \NC 4 \NR So if we have a function which write a matrix when the data is given as a form of table in Lua. There are other benefits. Sometimes, we may have to write a series matrices which are the results of the some row operations in matrix. We can also handle it conveniently because we can do some calculations in Lua. If there is a way to convey some table data from ConTeXt to Lua, it would be more convenient. A problem with \blank

Good evening, I have something like this in my document: \startalignment[middle] ... \stopalignment \startitemize ... \stopitemize and I want some (more) vertical space in between them. Adding a \blank[big] (and even a \blank[big,force]) didn't help. Interestingly, \leavevmode\blank[big] did. What is going on? What is the "canonical" way to achieve what I want to have?
