Natural Tables in multiple columns

Hello ConTeXt-Users, I get a strange behavior (latest beta), when I try to typeset natural tables and normal text in multiple columns. When I type normal text into a column and add a natural table which total length is small enough to fit into the column, the table is placed into the column with the text. When the total length is too large, the table starts in the next column and leaves the rest of the column empty (of course I used split=yes). I would expect that the table starts in the column with the text and is split properly. to pass an argument in a macro

Bonjour, I am new in ConTeXt. I love its features. I need some (or a lot of) help. I tried to get a macro which compute some values for a math function. With help from the wiki ConTeXt Garden and some time I could do that - write my function userdata.f - write another function to put the values in a table : userdata.tabf - put both of them in a file "/Users/rolandt/context/mesfonctionsluatex.lua" - In a file.tex, I use that macro : \def\tabf#1#2% {\startluacode dofile("/Users/rolandt/context/mesfonctionsluatex.lua") userdata.tabf(#1,#2) \stopluacode} Here are the functions: -- fonction cube -- on utilise l'espace de nom userdata userdata=userdata or {} function userdata.f(x) context(x*x*x) end -- fonction tabf -- which makes a table , compute 6 values, b=first x, c = step userdata=userdata or {} function userdata.tabf(b,c) context.starttable{"*{7}{|l}|"} local b=b local c=c context("\\HL") context("\\VL x ") for i=1,6 do context("\\NC" .. b+(i-1)*c) end context("\\VL".."\\AR") context("\\HL") context("\\VL f(x) ") for i=1,6 do context("\\NC") context(userdata.f(b+(i-1)*c)) end context("\\VL".."\\LR") context("\\HL") context.stoptable() end I am sure it could be much better but it works ! Evidently I need a third argument to be able to choose how many values compute. I failed completely (I don't understand how arguments are passed). Help with installation

Hallo. I'm sorry to bother you this time but I would really apprecitate your help. I've installed Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit on a new disk. I downloaded the last stable version of ConTeXt suite (today). The installation was all right. However, when I run texexec (e.g. texexec --help), I get the following error: /programy/context/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/mtxrun:15228: attempt to index field 'loaders' (a nil value) The same happens with context (e.g. context --help). Can you tell me what to do? I guess I simply need to install some libraries. This is the first time I've tried 64 bit Ubuntu. Best wishes Michal

Odd /externalfigure behavior

All, I've been working on a document for weeks and it's been compiling fine. I have a pdf copy from yesterday afternoon at 4p local time, the last time it compiled successfully. I was doing a search/replace on some /crlf to add space between text and an image. The search/replace with Gnome's gedit included \n in both search and replace string. Suddenly context will no longer successfully compile the document! What's very, very odd, is that the context document is an output file from pandoc of a markdown document that has had no issues until now. If I go back now to the original markdown doc and regenerate the context document the issue persists with or without subsequent edit!! Damned peculiar. Here's the workflow: pandoc -s -f markdown -t context <file.md> -o <file.context.tex> gedit <file.context.tex> to add: \defineexternalfigure[screenshot][frame=on] and then add [screenshot] to all of the \externalfigure directives. Then find the /crlf that appear immediate before *all* of the \externalfigure directives and double them (unless someone who reads this can tell me how to easily modify the padding of an image when it's placed to increase the spacing between the image and the text above it). problems with units

Balanced parenthesis.

Instead of writing $\left( x+y \right)$, I'd like to simply write $(x + y)$. For unmatched parenthesis, I would like to write $:-\unmatched)$. How can I accomplish that in context? Cheeers, André Caldas.

Broken footnote-numbering in the latest beta

Hello, When I use \setupnotation[footnote][way=bypage] in the latest beta to reset the footnote counter on each page, that doesn't work anymore. Wrong float numbering with default=top

Hi, The setting \setupfloat [figure] [default=top] not only places the figures at the top of the page, but also messes up the float numbering (the float placement is fine). In the following example “Figure 2” comes after “Figure 3”. one small remark and one broad question

Hi all, small remark first: archive.contextgarden.net has been down for a few days now; I suppose because of the new server? And now for the overly broad question: I'm embarking on what could become a long project. One part of it is typesetting a book (with many graphics). On the one hand, it would be wonderful to use the project structure and break it down into several components to make things manageable. On the other hand, it would be great to code in xml (because I might want to publish this as a website too). can these things be combined? Does the xml engine handle xinclude (or could this be added to it)? Or would another approach be better? Thanks for your insights! All best Thomas

Transparency without colors.

Hello! In my "simplesteps" module, I'd like to adjust the transparency of the foreground color. The file tex/context/base/colo-ini.mkiv suggests that there is a way to do that: % Currently in mkiv transparency is implemented independent of color. This costs % a bit more processing time but gives the possibility to apply transparency % independently in the future. Is this useful? If not we may as well combine them % again in the future. Hello all, I have a manuscript to review that I have managed to coerce into DocBook xml. I'd like to turn it into context so that I can mark it up in a comfortable environment. I just tried Simon Pepping's DocBookInContext package from 2003, but it fails on the provided test document: ! Undefined control sequence. l.968 \stelsectiein pandoc is not an option for me at the moment: I am currently using Arch Linux and have not been able to get their Haskell installation to finish successfully. framed algorithm / float: problems with line break

Dear all, Quick access: there is no line break in case algorithmic is used together with framed as a float. I'd like to put some pseudocode in my document. I've used the algorithmic module. Since I'd like to refer to the algorithm in the text, I've defined a float environment. However, putting the pseudocode into my document, I've realised that it does not really stand out from the text. My first idea was to put some box around it. In the garden I've found some example for using framed together with floats: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Framed However, this screws up the line break in the algorithmic environment. I could define manually the size of the box, but I think there might be better solutions. Any ideas or better ways for achieving this or a similar behaviour?! Thanks in advance. Centered multiline chapter title

Hello, I need to format my chapters in the following way: - The chapters are centered (midaligned). - Some chapters are long, so they have to be multilined. - The chapter title should be in capital letters, but in the header should it be without capitalisation. - When the chapter title is multilined, only the first line should appear in the header, followed by "...", the same in TOC - When the chapter title is multilined, I want to choose the point of line break with "\\" So something like this: \chapter{FIRST CHAPTER TITLE} (in the header and TOC will be "First chapter title") \chapter{SECOND CHAPTER TITLE \\ WHICH IS VERY VERY VERY LONG} (in the header and TOC will be "Second chapter title...") Count the words per line

I am setting with grid-set, and I am wondering, if there is a possibility to count the number of words in the lines (not for each single line, but in average over all lines). That would be helpful to get a perfectly readably book (words per row is one of these readability-measures). That tool could ignore hyphenated words at the end of a line, or count it with 0.5, or whatever. Thanks Huseyin

Suggestion for formula numbering

Hi, as of actual need I summed up all kinds of formula numbering - some basics are working. You can find this list on my user talk page: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/User_talk:Zenlima As I also found a note in str-math.mkiv that it needs to be rewritten and the example syntax which leaded me to confusion in the past, I worked out a suggestion for a more intuitive syntax for formula numbering. In sum it ends with: All three commands: \NR \placeformula \formualanumber will share the same attributes: * sublevel (maybe better: formulalevel or just level?) to define and concrete the (sub-)level of the formula * listlabel (maybe textlabel? the numberlabel is still needed) to add a entry in the list of formulas * reference just a classic reference in order to link to it so that the syntax is more intuitive during the writing. Also. this way the commands: placesubformula placenamedformula placenamedsubformula startstopsubformulas subformulanumber will become needless. Desperate help needed: Formular numbering and List of Formulas

Hi, I am closing my dissertation (finally) but I had to realize that subnumbering of formulas is still not working in mkiv. Unluckily going back to mkii is not an option for other reasons. For that I really need help to bring back a fully working formula numbering. I searched the entire wiki and mailing list for possible examples and put all in one test file - I got non to work but maybe I also made a mistake somewhere. Additionally I wrote everything on my talk page of the wiki: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/User_talk:Zenlima If every method has to be fixed my priority is the \NR[+][c]-method. Maybe someone can give additionally hints how to get a proper list of formulas. I attached the test file with its pdf result in addition to the wiki page. Thanks H.

two bugs in linenote

Not being any compress separator defined, the lines that don't start with a number, start with a blank space. There is also an issue that I don't know whether it could be fixed.
