Marco, Thank you, I have opted for your solution as it was the one I most easily understood and it seems to do the job. One thing, though, it turns out the #pageno variable does not seem to work. I had to rename it to #1 to do the trick. Even #p did not work. Do those variables have to be numbers? Here is what worked in the end: \setuppagenumbering[ alternative=doublesided, location={header, margin}, style=bold, command=\PageNumberCommand ] \starttexdefinition PageNumberCommand #1 \doifoddpageelse {\rightaligned{#1}} {\leftaligned{#1}} \stoptexdefinition Thank you again. Hi, I have a rather wide, 41mm, outer margin in a manual and I am trying to put the page number into the margin like so: \setuppagenumbering[ alternative=doublesided, location={header, margin}, style=bold, ] The trouble is that the page number is only a few millimetres wide and gets positioned on the inside edge of my outside margin. Hence, it does not end up close enough to the edge of the page. I guess, I would like to right-align it 4mm from the edge of a right-hand page and left-align it by the same amount from the edge of a left-hand page. Is that doable? Thank you, Malte.

ConTeXt on the Mac (TexShop). Problem of a newbie

Hi, after using LaTeX for article writing, presentations (beamer) and posters for about 15 years I wanted to try ConTeXt last week. I am not sure whether I installed all components correctly, so I tried to compile different simple test files. As I don't understand the error messages, I would like to ask for help. **************** 0. Place an annotation before it is defined

Hi, what is the best solution to place the content of annotations before they are defined in the text? What comes to mind is writing the content into an external file and read it in the next run. But maybe I overcomplicate things (usually I do) and there's a simpler solution. two problems with xml processing

Hi all, I am encountering two problems with xml processing; minimal example below. My questions/observations: 1. How can I prevent every index term to be sorted under "x" (for \xmlflush)? 2. Hi, I'm using a product/component structure with interaction but it seems that hyperlink targets pointing to manually set pagereferences in another component file do not work as they should: The line/page numbers on the link is correct, but the hyperlinks points to _component.pdf_ (which opens, if it has been compiled by itself before, otherwise the link is just going nowhere) instead of the page in product.pdf On the other hand, hyperlinks to a chapter/... head work as expected. I haven't used interaction much until now, so I might well be missing something, but this seems like a bug to me. Thanks in advance! Dear List, I posted this question before, (28 december, ntg-context Digest, Vol 102, Issue 65) but there was little activity on the list around that time and my question may have been overlooked. So that is why I give it another try. The book that I am working on has an index of authors. On some pages of the book an author's name only occurs in a footnote. Is it possible in ConTeXt to mark, in the index, those occurrences in footnotes so that in these cases not only the page number appears in the index but also, preferably as superscript, the footnote number on that page? As for example: Arnold, Franck Th. 283 indicating footnote 3 on page 28 (the "3" should have been superscript here but I cannot make a superscript in this mail editor) Thanks in advance for any help. Metafun textext()

Metafun textext() has been changed in an attempt to be more efficient. However, this has a side effet that it now handles colors differently, among other things. The following example, intended to cause difficulties for the color blind, no longer works. Luajittex 0.72.0 announcement

Hi, there is a new project on supelec: Luajittex. Briefly, it's like luatex with Lua replaced by LuaJIT. See http://foundry.supelec.fr/gf/project/luajittex/ for the source code. Please note that LuaJIT is based on lua 5.1, while luatex is now based on lua 5.2 --- this means that binaries modules must be kept separate. The tag 0.72.0 means that luajittex is in sinc with the tag 0.72.0 of luatex; I'm working to keep in sinc with the last tag. I've compiled the source for Linux 64bit (Ubuntu 12.10) Linux 32bit (Opensuse 12.1) and crosscompiled for Mingw32bit and they seem to work but of course any feedback is appreciate. The new engine is available with context (mkiv) with --engine=luajittex -- luigi

Yes, Many simpleslides styles seem to be broken. Thomas seems to be aware of this but has not gotten to looking into it. Opening external documents with external application

Dear All, I used to write \goto{\externalfigure[cuteimage]}[program(file.ext)] to get an image, that, when clicked, will open an application that will open file.ext. This currently still works on my Mac (10.8) with the TeXShop preview and with Skim. I does not work anymore with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Acrobat now asks permission, but doesn't do anything when granted. Even worse, on another Mac with an older OS, Skim didn't open the hyperlink either. On Windows, I couldn't find any program that would do the job, by I don't know much about that part of the world. Is there anything that has changed recently in the way these kind of hyperlinks must be written? (I use MkII) Thanks, Matthias

Broken header=repeat in extreme tables

empty TOC

Hi, I get an empty TOC again when compiling the documentation for the drops module. The entries for the TOC are set in the *.tuc file, but the TOC in the document stays empty. I tried the "[criterium=all]" option, same result. A TOC example from the wiki worked, so this time not a general problem. The *.log and the *.tuc file are attached, source can be sent off-list. Make annotations tolerant against empty lines

Error markers for invalid section references

Hi, in the final stage of a document I always run a grep for ?? and xxxx on the document to find invalid references and missing bibliography entries. However, in documents that do not have a section number the references to the number are also wrong, they need to be references to the name instead of the number. In this case no error marker is printed and AFAIK not even a hint in the log file. The correct way is to use \about instead of \in. Here's an example: \setuphead [section] [number=no] \starttext \startsectionlevel [title=Alpha] See section \in[invalid]. \par %% prints ?? See section \in[sec:bar]. \par %% prints nothing See section \about[sec:bar]. %% correct reference \startsectionlevel [title=Foo] \stopsectionlevel \startsectionlevel [title=Bar, reference=sec:bar] \stopsectionlevel \stopsectionlevel \stoptext The wrong \in[invalid] reference receives an easy to find error marker and an entry in the log file. The wrong entry \in[sec:bar] is hard to find. Is there a way to add ?? for those cases as well? Marco
