float placement

I would like to place a figure (float) on a page by itself, at a specific point. Using \placefigure[force] gives me the figures at that point but not on separate page, whereas \placefigure[page] puts it on a page but not at the point where it should appear. Finally \placefigure[force,page] nor \placefigure[page,force] did help. Howto? Hans van der Meer

distance between footnotes

I find the distance between my footnotes too large: 1 first foornote <too much space> 2 second footnote Trying \setupfootnotes[after={\blank-2mm]}] does not change anything as is the case with \setupnotation[footnote][after={\blank[-2mm]}] A strange phenomenon I noticed when wxperimenting for this post: \setupnotes[bodyfont=12pt] does change the font in the footnotes, but \setupnotation[footnote][bodyfont=12pt] does not. I thought that in mkiv \setupnotation[footnote] should completely replace \setupnotes. How is that? Hans van der Meer

Apparent error in wiki example

python embedded in ConTeXt

Hi, I just want to know if there is a equal thing like python.sty [1], sympytex [2] or sagetex [3] for embed python, sympy and sage into ConTeXt documents as there exist for latex. Yeah, I know I could write a script and run python externally to ConTeXt but this were easier to use. Thanks in advance, Xan. problem with --arrange option (current 2011.05.18 18:04 MKIV and actual beta)

Hi, I would print a booklet with trap of 3mm. With the current version 2011.05.18 18:04 MKIV – luatex 0.70, all's right. But with the current version 2012.05.30 11:26 MKIV – luatex 0.72 and the actuel beta – luatex 0.74, the header logo is cut into the cut marks (w/o trap). You can see my minimal in attachment. makeupwidth in columns

The contextrefmanual tells me in table 3.2 the following on the behaviour of the variables denoting the width of texts: [cid:D468CE47-C987-414C-84B0-47652AC59361@fritz.box] But the claim that \textwidth gives the width of a column is false. See the following minimal example, the first picture is set with 0.45\makeupwidth, the second with 0.9\textwidth. It is clear that \textwidth does not follow the claim. Previously I could use \chapter[reference-to-this-chapter]{title} Now the preferred way seems to be \startchapter[title=the-title], but how do I program now the reference to this chapter? The Wiki does not contains a page for \startchapter and the section on command only gives info and examples on the \chapter macro. Hans van der Meer

Hi, I thought I could use zapfino as a calligraphicfont as it is indeed a calligraphic typeface. footnotes what happened?

What has happened to \setupfootnotes? \setupfootnotes defines [textcolor=] although in the wiki just below this the example has [color=] instead. But neither of these do color the footnote text. As the reset of the footnote numbering by chapter with way=bychapter doesn't work either, though advertised in the wiki, I really fear there is something amiss here. I am the one who is mistaken or are some reparations needed? Hans van der Meer

command \text inside math environment not working anymore

Hi, during entering some formulas in a mkiv document I realized that the command \text is not working anymore. What is the new comḿand to embed text into a formula? I attached two minimal examples and the error message. I would like to have my footnotes typeset by chapter, using the following input: \startbuffer This is some text\footnote{First footnote}. Followed by more and more text having a footnote\footnote{Second footnote}. Again some text. Again some text. Again some text. Again some text. \stopbuffer \setupfootnotes[location=text,way=bychapter] \starttext \chapter{Chapter One}\getbuffer\placefootnotes \chapter{Chapter Two}\getbuffer\placefootnotes \chapter{Chapter Three}\getbuffer\placefootnotes \stoptext Note the setup parameter "way=bychapter" but the numbering is not restarted with the chapter! Instead they go on and on. See the example output. How to restart the footnote numbering per chapter if that way= parameter doesn't do it? Glyph Variants with MKIV

Hi, How can I use glyph variants with ConTeXt/LuaTeX? Khaled posted an example with LuaLaTeX[1] and I would like to use that in a ConTeXt document. Can this be achieved with simplefonts or even directly? footnotes and columns

It appears that footnotes and columns are not friends of each other. Setting \setupfootnotes[location=columns] does not place the footnotes in the columns but still at the bottom of the page. Furthermore the \startcolumns..\stopcolumns sequence seems to have an adverse effect on the textheight, because the footnotes can be seen to sometimes intrude in the textarea (or vice versa of course). Changing the footnote setup to location = page, firstcolumn, lastcolumn, nothing different seen. Is this a known problem. I am refraining for the moment of a simple demo, because that is always difficult to achieve with this sort of placement problems. Hans van der Meer

MetaPost Function Grapher

The MetaPost output from my Function Grapher http://www.tlhiv.org/mpgraph/ is now available in ConTeXt format. This can be illustrated by choosing a graph type and selecting an example from one of the Example buttons. Once the graph is drawn, the ConTeXt source can be downloaded using the "Download" drop-down box. Simply executing `context mpgraph.tex` should produce the same graph viewed on the website in PDF. I just read in contextgarden.net the following: "Note that XeTeX uses mkii and LuaTeX uses mkiv ; in principle mkii is frozen so new features and improvements will only happen in mkiv." I use the ConTeXt which comes in TEXLIVE 2012, which I assume uses Mark IV. Does that mean that I can not use this version of ConTeXt with XeteX which also comes packaged in TEXLIVE? Regards

pgfplots in newest beta

Hi list, I've got a problem with the latest beta and pgfplots. It already happens when the module is loaded and also with a minimal file testing pgfplots. Output is attached below. Is this is a known problem that has a workaround or will be fixed in the future? Not a big problem for me, I guess I'll just downgrade to a working version in the meantime. simpleslides bug?

Maybe this is my fault. extras in \cite

Hello Everyone, A while back Aditya provided a patch for using *alternative=authornum* in *\cite*. The patch adds et al. for the cases with more than two authors. I have been using it without a hitch since then. However, today I tried to use *extras* option with this patch and it won't work. The MWE works for *alternative=apa* and *alternative=num* Please let me know if this can be rectified. Quick slide templates

Dear ConTeXt list, This could be more of a style and TeX question than a ConTeXt question. Nevertheles: I am making a presentation that involves some simple animations. The way I make those animations is by: 1. Stopping page numbering. 2. Flipping through the same slide repeated, but with img0, img1, img2 etc. 3. Start page numbering. The problem with my naïve approach of repeating slides is that fixing a spelling error or making changes implies that I have to do it several times for an “animated” slide, and is error-prone. Could you point me to a way by which I can make a slide something like a “function” whose argument is the image, and calling it creates that slide with an image? FWIW, I use texexec --xtx, but I am guessing a LuaTeX solution would be simpler. The XeTeX solution is what I am not able to find now. Thanks! Kumar -- Kumar Appaiah
