If I decide to use, for instance, "Σ" instead of "\sum", this operator is no longer stretched/scaling regardless of the sub/superscripts specified tot it. Is it possible to keep stretching/scaling while using Inicode characters for such operators?

Fonts that come with different optical sizes do in fact use that table exactly for the purpose desired by Andrés. Latin Modern does so, Adobe fonts do so and EB Garamond happens to use that table too. XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX interpret it correctly (by means of fontspec, IIRC). What is the status of ConTeXt's various test suites?

Hi, all, There appear to be a number of test suites in existence. (1) The suite on pragma-ade.com. I suspect this is the one Hans actually uses. http://www.pragma-ade.com/download-1.htm (click on cont-tst.7z) (2) The project on foundry.supelec.fr. Most recent file is 3 years old, and most of them are 6-7 years old, AFAICT. I am trying to install a font so that Context cn use it. I am using the simplefont module and have a ttf that I'd like to use. There is a lot of conflicting information out about to do this and som is outdated. As for ContTeX I did find a nice article, but it says to use the program texfont, "which ships with ConTex", but I do not have any such file. texfont --ve=sil --co=gentium --makepath --install I am using the TexLive version. Is there any simple method to get this font so that it can be used by ConTex MKIV ?

Auto selecting optical sizes for a font

Hello friends. I'm trying to design a book using the typescript you can find at the end of this message. I'm using the beautiful EBGaramond fonts from Georg Duffner (http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/) This font provides optical sizes to be used in different sizes (named "12" for 10.1pt or more, and "8" for 10 or less. These fonts automatically work as expected in latex, thanks to a recent package included in CTAN (ebgaramond package), selecting the correct font for the appropriate size. However, the typescript I'm using selects the "8" size for everything, without taking the type size into consideration. Is there any way to make ConTeXt do this automatic selection of fonts regarding of type size? I'm using version 2013.06.10 22:51. Fraktur fonts

Hello list members, an only-a-few-days-fan of Context writes to you for the first time. I'm pleased to have found a program closer to TeX and younger than LaTeX. In the last years I used LaTeX for a bigger family project with good success, but experienced some difficulties in arranging minipages containing changing text and pictures especially in series letters. So I'm trying to do that using Context. Of course I cannot change hundreds of files from LaTeX to Context, but newer tasks I'd like to do in Context. There is a first question I have concerning Fraktur fonts which I'd like to use typesetting a poem: I found a 2-mail-discussion in your 2002-archiv concerning those fonts. But I have to admit that I don't understand what is written there. So, I tried simply \definefont[Gedichtfont][Fraktur] \Gedichtfont{... poem ...} both with "context" and "texexec", but I don't achieve the desired result. "texexec" displays a font somehow similar to Fraktur, but not a very nice one and much to broad; and it seems to have no different "s" (one inner-word and one word-end or syllable-end "s") as needed in Fraktur. And, my "texexec" doesn't know anything about umlauts and sharp s. Whereas my "context" (translating the same program), dosn't know Fraktur, but knows umlauts. So I'm always using both of them, enjoying the partial success of both, though I read somewhere, it should be better using "texexec". Well, a very nice Fraktur font is Yannis Haralambous' "yfrak" in his "yfont" series, the nicest one I've found until now. Could you please help me to formulate the correct commands to use a "nice" Fraktur font, be it "yfrak" or another one? But please remember, Context is still rather confusing to me. \startTEXpage and alternative=doublesided woes...

Hello all, I'm trying to get two pages from a PDF inserted into a document with a different paper size (6"x9") which happens to be doublesided... I want the inserted pages to retain their original size (letter), and to be centered as they are in the original document, not relocated due to the pagelayout set up by doublesided. When I use \startTEXpage \externalfigure... \stopTEXpage \startTEXpage \externalfigure... \stopTEXpage I get an extra page inserted between the two that I'm including. When I use \setuppagesize[letter][letter] \copypages[...][n=2] \setuppagesize[draft][draft] I get the desired results, aside from the margins... the pages are imported into the pagelayout as defined by doublesided. two questions on paragraphed linenotes

Dear Hans, I'd like to introduce a friend into composing critical editions using ConTeXt. I have made some tests myself, and I'd like to know a couple of issues about paragraphed linenotes before start explaining. The first issue is about note split. When I started using ConTeXt, I realized that footnotes might be placed in the next page (unless split=verystrict is set). Fearing the same results in linenotes, I set this, but this lead to wrong separation between body and notes (at least on my examples). My question is: does the default split value for paragraphed linenotes keep all notes in the same page? The second question is on the space before linenotes that separates from text body. With your fix from last week, things have improved a lot. You told me is tricky. If you allow me a (naive) question: wouldn't it be possible that ConTeXt would check whether body lines respect the before distance of the first paragraphed linenotes and move as many lines that don't respect this distance to the next page? Failure building standalone

I tried building the standalone but ran into a snag. French letter style and date

Dear all, I can't manage to get the date on a french letter style. I am using ConTeXt ver: 2013.04.07 01:04 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.4.7 int: english/english I also tried some older versions and with ConTeXt ver: 2011.05.18 18:04 MKIV fmt: 2011.7.31 int: english/english I get a date printed above the destination address. I also get a date with other styles. Did anything change in the letter module between this two versions? Does anyone know how to get the date with the new version? Documenting \startchapter etc.

Hi all, I’m new to ConTeXt, having used LaTeX for the past decade (although nothing particularly technical). I’m quickly learning that ConTeXt MkIV is a rapidly moving target, and the documentation has fallen a way behind… So, while I’m gradually learning, I’m going to make an effort to update the Wiki. My first real contribution is the page about the new MkIV sectioning commands (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/startsection and http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Titles#New_MkIV_Sectioning) Since I’m new to this and Wiki-editing, I’d appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable could give the pages a quick look over to make sure I’m not misleading people with false information, and maybe add any parameters that I’ve missed (or don’t know the meaning of like ‘label’ and ‘marking’). Cheers, and thanks for ConTeXt – so far I like it a lot better than LaTeX or any other system I’ve tried! Gareth

slanted style in quotations: setupquotation?

While there is a \setupquote in a recent MkIV beta, when I try to use \setupquotation to set the quotation text style to slanted, this has no effect. Is there a neat way to do this, without redefining \quotation?

[font-chk.lua] missing glyph tracker

Hi Hans, in font-chk.lua, the function checkers.missing fails to assign the var “lastfont”, leading to a meaningless test for equivalence with “font”. See patch below. Also, may I ask you to include the unicode character in the tracker message? This would make the output more legible, imo. background color for makeups

Dear list, the only way I found to center content horizontally and vertically on a page is a makeup, such as: \startstandardmakeup[align=middle] content to be centered \stopstandardmakeup I need to be able to change the background on some given pages. Which is the way to do this? I have tried with (what I understand from) setups: \startsetups[setups:redcolor] \setupbackgrounds[page][background=color,backgroundcolor=red] \stopsetups \startstandardmakeup[setups=setups:redcolor] content \stopstandardmakeup But it didn't work. luajittex not able to find some fonts

Dear list, I wonder whether this would be interesting to the luajittex developers, but for some strange reason when I invoke context with --engine=luajittex, only some system fonts are found. item bullet processing / font problem

Setting the main font to ipaexm for Japanese characters, causes the sample document below to fail being typest properly. The $\diamond$ symbol I specified as an item bullet does not get typeset and where is should be is blank. Though not shown in this example, the default set is also affected. When it should be a circular bullet a largish hypen - is displayed. Also parsing of the document text itself is affected with Context halting in the middle of the first item's text. I think all problems are due to the change in fort. Is there anyway I can specify a backup font or a fort to use for only the symbols, which I believe is in a math font? Any assistance it getting this working will be much appreciated. Referencing problem (correction)

Sorry for the mistake: I wrote one \ too many so that I unwittingly created an absurd link. My problem is: how can I refer in my text to this set of figures (instead of to the separate figures). I have tried to use "group" as the label for referencing, as it is the only argument that all figures have in common, but my trials failed and I have no idea how to accomplish this. G'day everyone, I use introductory sentences to numbered lists all the time, like this (where \startnlist...\stopnlist is a custom itemised list): To remove a foo from a pool of foos: \startnlist \item Do this... \item Do that... \item ...and so on... \stopnlist On occasions, I am getting that introductory sentence as an orphaned line at the end of a page and my numbered list as the first thing on the next page. How can I avoid that? There is not much about orphans and widows on the Wiki or in the reference manual. [Sorry about the previous null message.] Background: Typically I use MetaPost to create small figures, which I then can scale as needed in larger documents. These figures contain no text so I can simply use the .eps output of mpost as an inclusion. Recently, I have embarked on a large illustration replete with lots of text labels. It is a "distilled" architectural drawing intended for diagnostic and maintenance purposes. In it plumbing details are overlaid over a layout. For simplicity, I standardized on unit size of 1cm so that co-ordinates can easily map from physical dimensions with the unusual hybrid scale of 1cm=1ft ;).. Status: With this set unit size, my drawing has grown very large. My intent is to get it printed on one of the (U.S.) based architectural paper sizes, or if it can be made legible on U.S. Tabloid size paper (17" x 11").. My first successful approach (and where I stand right now) is to simply use \startMPpage and \stopMPpage to scale to the page. Thera are a couple of issues, though, with this approach. First, I want to add additional information to the page, other than what would be handled by MetaPost, e.g., some tables, etc. Even without this additional information, having the drawing scale to page size does not give adequate margin buffering and if there are some labels right at the edge, I have seen some clipping of the text. Objective: I would like to create a scalable drawing with all of its text labels so that I can scale appropriately to different page sizes, and also incorporate the illustration with other document elements. >From what I have read at: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/MetaPost_in_ConTeXt I think what I need is something akin to \startuseMPgraphic with a scaling option if I want to include the code inline. Otherwise, the drawing is clipped on the page. Or perhaps I simply try to convert the existing PDF output to PS, and then include it? NTG-context] How to hack the lua files

I haven't been using the project structure. From your question, I am inferring that this might help. At present I have treated the files as two separate documents. I didn't take too much time looking at how to set up the project structure because it wasn't clear that I needed it.
