Minor date formatting issue

Hello, all-- I am experimenting with the \currentdate command. I am finding that \currentdate [weekday,{,~},month,day+,{,~},year] which should work according to the Wiki, produces: Thursday, Augustday+, 2013 This command: \currentdate [weekday,{,~},month,day,{,~},year] works as expected. I also tried \date [][weekday,{,~},month,day+,{,~},year] but that produced the same result as above. I have a recent stable release of the standalone ConTeXt package from the Garden. Is there a new way to format a date with an ordinal indicator (-st, -nd, -rd, -th), or is that just not working at the moment? Please advise. -- Matt Gushee

ConTeXt, XeTeX, special effects in Indic font for Kannada

On my Mac (Mountain Lion) I would like to use ConTeXt with a complex OpenType font named Kedage for the Indian language Kannada, and I thought that I could do this using XeTeX (because LuaTeX seems unable to handle Indic fonts at present). This freely available font (found on Linux systems, for instance) comes in four files: Kedage-n.TTF, Kedage-b.TTF, Kedage-i.TTF, Kedage-t.TTF (normal, bold, italic and bolditalic, respectively). I have been partly successful with the simple command \definefontsynonym[kan][name:Kedage] and then using \definedfont[kan] where I want to have the font in the text. Also \font\kannada="Kedage" (and \kannada later in the text) seems to work well without any further indications of language, script etc. However, I would also like to use the bold, italic and bolditalic forms of the font. Simply using \bold and \em does not work. Here I see two possibilities: (1) use the XeTeX parameters FakeSlant and FakeBold, which I have done in LaTeX. But I do not know how this is done in ConTeXt. (2) use the other font files (Kedage-b.TTF etc.), and again I do not know how to do this. Can anybody help me out, either way? (I have attached a sample.) Robert

simplefonts doesn’t select the font

Dear list, I have the following sample: \starttext \startbuffer[testbuffer] \setuppapersize[A7] \usemodule[simplefonts][size=10.5pt] \setmainfont[TeX Gyre Pagella] \starttext This isn’t \TeX\ Gyre Pagella. \stoptext \stopbuffer \typesetbuffer[testbuffer] \stoptext Only with decimal font sizes, simplefonts (and probably the standard font mechanism [which I don’t know how to use it]) isn’t able to select the font in the buffer. unwanted extra interline space in typing environment

Dear list, I have a document (http://ediciones-criticas.tk/pdf/criticas-context.pdf) which is shows a weird issue: some typing lines have an extra interline space added. It can be found on the first code samples on pages 11 and 12 from the above-mentioned document (sorry, but I have no other way to recreate the issue). My configuration is the following: \setuptyping[margin=yes,lines=yes,blank=line,space=on] How can avoid the unwanted extra interline space in the typing environment? Feature-Request: Sort bibliography entries in alphabetical order by the entries' “short” value

Hi, the publication list can be configured with `\setuppublications` to be sorted by cite order (`sorttype=cite`) or the order of the publication entries (`sorttype=bbl`). With the following setup the "short names" of the publication entries are used for cite references: \setuppublications[ criterium=text, sorttype=cite, % <– "short"? refcommand=short, numbering=short, ... ] The short names are set using the `s` attribute: \startpublication[ s={RFC2616}, ... ] ... \stoppublication A cite with this setup would look like "[RFC2616]". In a long bibliography list it is useful if the entries are sorted in alphabetical order by these short names to allow a faster lookup of publications. Currently I'm using the "filter" module and a Tcl script to sort the publication entries ( http://tex.stackexchange.com/q/126939/7074 ), but it might be useful if something like a `sorttype=short` option would be added. The problem is that on my system the Persian part of the output is a set of Persian Isolated characters, but on http://live.contextgarden.net the Persian part does not appear at all. How to prevent moving figure on the next page?

Hi list, I need help to undestand this effect: If setuphead[chapter][page=no] and after figure start a new chapter, than figure is moved to the page 2, although on page 1 space is enough. kerning with buggy libertine

Hi Hans, this is a bug report thanks to Khaled: http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/126650/14066 In short: the font loader applies the kerning of libertine version 5.3.0 even though this appears to be broken in the font. Metapost labels

Hi all, with LuaTeX, Version beta-0.77.0-2013073017 (rev 4639) and ConTeXt ver: 2013.08.06 15:50 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.8.7 int: english/english Context seems not to be able to typeset Labels anymore. Yesterday, before an Update, all worked as expected. \completepublications in component creates wrong hyperlinks

Hi, if a \completepublications call is used in a component, the hyperlink, which is supposed to link to the bibliography, instead links to a (probably non-existing) pdf file named after the component. \startbuffer [sample] @BOOK{Eijkhout1991, title = {\TeX\ by Topic. \externalfigure doesn't find mps file in subdirectory

\externalfigure won't find a metapost eps file in a subdirectory, if the mps has the numerical (.1) extension. Here's a minimal example (test.tex): \setupexternalfigures[directory={fig}] \starttext \externalfigure[simple.1] \stoptext where fig/simple.1 is from a simple .mp file that fills a 1-cm box (see below). The resulting test.pdf shows the gray box name : simple.1 file : simple.1 state: unknown Only this combination of circumstances triggers the problem. Giving the full path ("\externalfigure[fig/simple.1]") works fine, as does renaming the file to simple.mps (within the fig/ directory), as does using instead simple-1.pdf (made with mptopdf). Thus, I have several workarounds, but it might be useful to figure out what is not working. I've noticed this problem on and off for a while now, but only now made a minimal example. (Is the path-searching code trying to append extensions and directory prefixes at the same time, and thus not finding the file?) This is with MkIV 2013.05.28 from vanilla TL2013. Hiding \part completely except for in the ToC

Hi everyone, I'm having a little problem and I'm hoping you can help. For my table of contents, I need to group my sections, but I don't want any heads for this in the text. Now, I've been using \part for this but unfortunately I cannot get rid of the empty space it leaves. The only way I've been able to get rid of the empty space is by setting: \setuphead[part][placehead=empty] But then it's not in the ToC either. Alternatively, when setting placehead to any other value, it still leaves an empty line in the text. Is it possible to have both, ie \part's in the ToC without any space taken by it in the text? Passing macro parameters to lua

Hello, good people-- I've encountered what appears to be a bug in either the TeX->Lua interface or the documentation thereof (I have the latest stable ConTeXt standalone from contextgarden.net) I'm trying to create a macro that will insert different text depending on whether one of the arguments is empty or not. My initial test implementation (following the wiki section entitled "Passing arguments and buffers: ConTeXt commands that hook into Lua") looked like this: \startluacode userdata = userdata or {} function userdata.empty_or_not(str) if str == "" or str == nil then context("{\\sc Empty}") else context(str) end end \stopluacode \def\emptyOrNot#1{% \ctxlua{userdata.empty_or_not(#1)}% } \starttext \emptyOrNot{Amazing Text!} \emptyOrNot{} \stoptext This did not work. I determined that even when I passed a non-empty string, the Lua interpreter detected it as nil. It turns out the fix was simple--I had to quote the string, as follows. \def\emptyOrNot#1{% \ctxlua{userdata.empty_or_not("#1")}% } It took me a while to figure that out, though, since the wiki example does not show quotes. -- Matt Gushee

Locating pdf files in the texmf directory structure

This is a trivial appliation for Context, but a useful one. I plan on designed some business cards, but am new to Context. My idea to to have a logo image in the upper left hand corner, with the company name to the right of it. This would be two block elements at the top of the card. In the middle will be the name, and below that the address, tel, etc. -- Regarding the two blocks at the top of the card: Something like the below: logo here Company name here .--------------------------------------. | | | ooooo XYZ Printing Company | | ooooo | This top area is the subject of this mail. | ooooo Card Design & Services | ............................................. | | | | | First_Name Last_Name | All this below the ... line is done. | | | contact information | | | '--------------------------------------' I take this as two blocks aligned horizontally on the 91mm x 55mm card stock. >From my reading the Context options for doing this are: The margins are so small that using \inmarge{\externalfigure[company-logo][width=\marginwidth] } can not work. How to update context modules; thank you, write-up, and a couple of questions

(I use a ubuntu/PPA installation of context and hence don't use first-setup.sh, which would make updating easy). 1. I downloaded the current version of the module (letter; http://modules.contextgarden.net/dl/t-letter-2013.07.31.zip in this case) from http://modules.contextgarden.net/ 2. I already have a personal /home/me/texmf directory (or would have created it). I put the zipped module update in this directory and unzipped it preserving the subdirectory structure. 3. I set the environment variable TEXMFHOME to my personal texmf directory ("export TEXMFHOME=/home/me/texmf") 4. I ran "mtxrun --script update --modules=letter" to tell context where to look for the new version of the letter module. I could now tell from the output that the updated version of the letter module was installed, and I also confirmed from the log file: resolvers > modules > 'letter' is loaded interface > macros > processed mkvi file '/home/me/texmf/tex/context/third/letter/base/s-cor-01.mkvi', delta 36 interface > macros > processed mkvi file '/home/me/texmf/tex/context/third/letter/base/s-cor-01.mkvi', delta 0 (before the update, the lines above read /usr/share/texmf... instead of /home/me/texmf...) I hope that this write-up is helpful to others. Please feel free to comment or amend if I've misunderstood. I have several questions: (1) Is it possible to tell which version of a module is installed, i.e., that I am using the 2013.07.31 version of letter? (The version of context appears in the log file but not the version of the module.) (2) After I update of the entire context installation, how will I tell context to again use the /usr/share/texmf version instead of the personal version? (3) Could I have done this installation into /usr/share/texmf and used "sudo mtxrun..." to make the updated module work on a multi-user system? (4) Where can I put personal files that I would like context to use regularly. For example I have three personal files: "env_letter.tex" which I include with "\environment env_letter"; a pdf file with my logo; and a pdf file with a scan of my signature. Is there a standard directory to hold such files, and how do I let context know where to find them, for example, with mtxrun? (It seems like a waste to copy them to a new location every time I want to write a letter). Thank you very much. Yours, Michael

I used the \startfiguretext macro to place a logo in the top left and company name to the right of it. This works well. The only problem is a "Figure 1" and "non" show up on the result. The "none" was from the example in the book. But, space is at a premium on a small card and I don't want any taken up by blank lines where an annotation might be like "none". How can I keep the below the image text and their text space from being used?

Updating modules with a ppa:reviczky/context-daily installation

I have a question about how to update context modules. In earlier correspondence Question: I am still having a problem with...[the letter module] Answer: This is now fixed... I use a context installation managed by ubuntu/apt-get from the Personal Package Archive *ppa:reviczky/context-daily* ( https://launchpad.net/~reviczky/+archive/context-daily) The current version is: ConTeXt ver: 2013.07.24 14:11 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.7.31 int: english/english How is it possible to (1) tell which version of a module is installed? (2) update a module to the latest version? Because I use the PPA version, I have not used first-setup.sh. I have only a limited understanding of where the context supporting material is maintained. bug in \externalfigure

Hello everyone, I found a bug in the current ConTeXt Beta with externalfigure. The following minimal example will show you what happens \starttext \externalfigure[cow] \externalfigure[cow][width=10cm] \page \externalfigure[test] \page This text will appear. This text will not appear. \externalfigure[test][width=10cm] This text will not appear. \stoptext The first two \externalfigure-commands (with cow) will give a grey placeholder with 'state:unknown' in it. The third \externalfigure-command (\externalfigure[test]) will work, and the last one won't. In this example, you will get an empty third page and the text after the \externalfigure-command doesn't appear in the pdf. 'test' can be a pdf-file or jpeg-file (I only tested whose types of files).
