ConTeXt Suite and system fonts

Dear list, since the topic isn’t specific to MacOSX, I’m starting a new thread. [I assume that OSFONTDIR won’t be set by default in Linux. I’m fine with that.] I think system fonts should be enabled by default in Win and Mac. I think it is a nice feature to newcomers. Of course, Thomas is fully right in requesting not to be forced to use the system fonts. Being the default the use of system fonts, wouldn’t it be possible to add an argument such as "--disable-osfontdir" to first-setup? Just in case it helps, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

not getting latest beta from Suite

Dear list, as Alan pointed two days ago, running: rsync -ptv rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/setup/first-setup.sh . && ./first-setup.sh --modules=all gets beta from 2013.10.15 13:52, while I think it should get beta from 2013.10.20 07:09. Using CMYK for print jobs

A printer I want to use only handles files which use CMYK colorspace/model.. I tried building my mkiv file using cmyk=yes, as shown below: \setupcolors[state=start, rgb=no, cmyk=yes, overprint=yes] Using ImageMagick's identify program to check the resulting file it show the following: Resolution: 72x72 Print size: 3.58333x2.16667 Units: Undefined Type: PaletteMatte Endianess: Undefined Colorspace: RGBde delegate for this image format `/home/user_a' @ error/constitut Depth: 16/8-bit. Channel depth: red: 8-bit green: 8-bit blue: 8-bit alpha: 1-bit GIMP also shows an RGB model for the resulting pdf file. Also is this mention of pixel resultion of 72x72 correct or useful? I tried to get a 300 dpi resolution for output. Any ideas and advice would be appreciated.

ConTeXt standalone - in what situations is it better?

Hello, I was looking into simplefonts (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/simplefonts) and noticed the clause > if you’re running ConTeXt Standalone > <http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Standalone> (which is a better > option) Well I'm using TeXLive, but am happy to take good advice, so I looked at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Standalone to see why it would be a better option. The basic reason I can see is that Standalone is updated more frequently. So if you're using bleeding-edge features of ConTeXt (including recent fixes to simplefonts?), I can see wanting to use Standalone and have access to the latest features and fixes. On the other hand, if you're working on a large production project that has to be careful of stability, is there any advantage to Standalone over TeXLive? Sure, you can keep a standalone version frozen in place, but then that seems equivalent to staying with an existing version of TeXLive. The other issue for me with Standalone is that the only version listed for Windows is "W32TeX". When I go to the web page for that platform, I don't see any information about what W32TeX is; just how to install it. It sounds like it's specific to 32-bit systems, and mine is 64-bit. But I suppose in that regard it's no different from TeXLive -- the executables are 32-bit but they run fine on 64-bit systems. Does anybody have advice for me on other reasons for switching from TeXLive to ConTeXt Standalone, or reasons not to? Thanks, Lars

Mavericks and Standalone ConTeXt

After installing Mavericks and attempting to update to the latest Standalone— Problem 1: with sh ./first-setupsh I get Context current version: 2013.10.15 13:52. though it should. I think, be version 2013-10-20 07:11. Problem 2: (noted before?) compiling with this Standalone (ConTeXt ver: 2013.10.15 13:52 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.10.24) fails at/with fonts > names > identifying system font files with suffix 'ttf' fonts > names > globbing path '/Users/alancbowen/Library/Fonts/**.ttf' fonts > names > globbing path '/Library/Fonts/**.ttf' mtx-context | fatal error: no return code, message: luatex: execution interrupted Curiosity 1: compiling with the same version of the Standalone (ConTeXt ver: 2013.10.15 13:52 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.10.15) which had been installed *before *upgrading to Mavericks works. Nested itemize (spaces before and after inside environment)

Hello ConTeXist. I tried convert plainTeX source code into ConTeXt source code so that the output PDF gave the same (or approximately the same) result. I did it for one of plainTEX developers (Mr. Olšák), which compared results of PlainTeX, LaTeX and ConTeXt. However, I encountered the following problem. Is there a way to adjust the spacing before internal itemize environment when the external itemize environment is set as PACKED? To enumerate answer blanks in the right margin to match the question, thanks to Marco: \define\ansblank{\inright{\getnumber[itemgroup:itemize]. \thinrules[n=1]}} \setupitemgroup [itemize] [n,style=bold,right=\ansblank] I am trying to augment this to handle nested itemizations so that the \getnumber in the right margin is from the parent itemize but the "\getletter" is from the child: \starttext \startitemize[n] \item First \item Second \startitemize[a] \item Related problem % Would like this to show 2 a. before the marginrule \item Related question % Would like this to show 2 b. before the marginrule \stopitemize \item Third \stopitemize \stoptext Desired output: 1. issue with layers and layouts

The text doesn’t reach the bottom frame. I have the info on multiple layers from the wiki (it isn’t a complete example, though). After Wolfgang’s reply last Friday, I spend hours searching on the mailing list trying to find relevant information to know what I was doing wrong. If this isn’t a bug, what am I missing here? Is there posibility get external references a different color than the other (default) links (to sections, figures etc) defined by \setupinteraction? open quotation not working

When I use `` to open a quotation, I don't get the character for open quotation, instead, I get the two single quotation character. (The closing quotation works fine) Is there any command to fix this? \mframed not aligned in mkiv

Dear Hans, I noticed a difference between mkii and mkiv in the behavior of \mframed: it seems that in mkiv the frame is not vertically aligned with the the + sign in the following example (or rather it is not vertically centered, please see the attached PDF produced with ConTeXt ver: 2013.10.15 13:52 MKIV). Does one have to use now a new key to require this sort of alignment? Need help defining command.

HI All, I remember seeing some seeing what I want to do but I can not find it. I would like to define a command that takes an optional key-valued list and 1 or 2 manditory ones. Standalone Installation Question

I downloaded and ran: $ sh ./$SETUPFILE --modules=all --engine=luatex --context=current # # The documentation on web page [ http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Standalone#General_Information ] statess that: " An intialization script called setuptex is provided in installation-dir/tex/. " If you run context from a terminal, source setuptex like so: " source /installation-dir/tex/setuptex " BUT, first-setup.sh did not produce and populate any ./tex directory and there is no setuptex command file. What can I do to proceed from this point. Using typescripts in Texlive 2013

Hello all, I've discovered the magic of structureuservariabl and have therefore converted all my headings to use the start/stop syntax. It's raised a few quick questions though: 1. Is \startchapter \stopchapter etc the "proper way" to do things from now on? Or is it really just up to the user? 2. Is there a way to provide a default value for a structureuservariable? I'd like to set a reference number based on a global counter if the user doesn't supply their own. 3. In a similar vein - is it possible to define a reference for a section if the user doesn't provide one. E.g. if they provide \startchapter[title=My Example Chapter] instead of: \startchapter[chap:examplechapter][title=My Example Chapter] can I set the reference for them? (I will have some sections that could be usefully auto-referenced). Many thanks in advance, Felix

Is this possible for the Frames

Hi everbody, I would like to do some very special settings using frames possibly structures to! NMW % declartion of MyFarme and setup \defineframed[MyFrame][framed] \setupframed[MyFrame][\rulethickness=3pt, frameoffset=.8 rulethickness] … startext \MyFrame[\rulethickness=3pt{What goes into the frame} stop I would like to adjust the frameoffset according to the value of \rulethickness, to be exact I would prefer using a command that calulates a value. How do I go about it. According to the Manuals and the Wiki I can use a command How can I access rulethickness in such a manner? I know I could right a command in lua that injects the proper output into the TeX stream, but I am afraid that the the side effects. Could do it in TeX to, but I am not that comfortable with TeX and processing key values therein. Any help and ideas appriciated. regards Keith.
