Hi typographibians, for a new project I’m looking for a body font that fits Soviet Modernism. I’d like to have OpenType, high typographical quality, good readability as body text, latin and cyrillic glyphs. Free would be great, but I’d also buy. Do you have a hint for me? Unwanted whitespace with \startsection and in-margin headings

Following up on a related whitespace problem with descriptions and tables following in-margin headings -- I notice that \startsection behaves differently from \section when it comes to following whitespace for in-margin headings. This example demonstrates this: \setuplayout [backspace=6cm,leftmargin=6cm,rightmargin=1cm,cutspace=1cm] \setuphead [chapter][page=no] \setuphead [section][distance=0pt, alternative=text, command=\MarginHead] \define[2]\MarginHead{\inmargin{#1 #2}} \starttext \chapter{Traditional} There is no extra white space when using the traditional sectioning commands when the heading is placed in the margin. \section{No blank line} This text follows the section heading with no intervening space. No extra space has been added. \section{Blank line} This text follows the section heading with one intervening blank line. No extra space has been added. \startchapter[title={Startsection}] The newer sectioning commands are sensitive to the whitespace which follows when the heading is placed in the margin. \startsection[title={No blank line}] This text follows the section heading with no intervening space. No extra space has been added. \stopsection \startsection[title={Blank line ?}] This text follows the section heading with one intervening blank line. Getting the current chapter number in the TOC

Hello, How can I get the following table of contents? Contents Chapter first MyTitle Chapter II MyTitle Chapter III MyTitle I have tried: \MyNumber{\doifelse{\currentsectioncountervalue}{1}{first}{#1}} setuplist[chapter][numbercommand=\MyNumber] but it does not work. Actually because \currentsectioncountervalue always returns 0 in the table of contents. So I need another command which gives me the current number for testing if it is equal to one (first chapter). Hi, can someone confirm, that this code fails with a recent ConTeXt version? Spurious missing character log messages

It appears that descriptions generate a spurious Missing character: There is no ^@ (U+0000) in font lmroman12-regular! log message. MWE: \definedescription[oops][] \starttext \oops{Where}is the U+0000? \stoptext The messages appears in the log once for each description in the document. This happens with the current (2014-04-15) beta. It does not happen with TL13. -- Rik Kabel

Column Width

Hi, According to the columns manual, the following should produce a two-column layout with the first column being 1/3 and the second column being 2/3 the makeupwidth: \definecolumnset[example][n=2] \setupcolumnset[example][1][width=.33\makeupwidth] \starttext \startcolumnset[example] \dorecurse{25}{\input knuth\column[local]} \stopcolumnset \stoptext Using: mtx-context | current version: 2014.01.03 00:40 What is the simplest example to achieve two different column widths for a columnset? (The Paragraphs example on the wiki -- http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Columns#Paragraphs -- works, but I need the flexibility of column sets.) Thank you!

\triangledown placed too low in Palatino

I just noticed that the gradient operator (\triangledown) ends up too low when using Palatino: \setupbodyfont[palatino] \starttext $\triangledown T$ \stoptext It seems about 3pt too low. Without the \setupbodyfont[palatino], the placement is fine. (tested with 2013.05.28 and 2014.03.27 betas) -Sanjoy

Insert text at end of every paragraph

Dear list, I want a text string to be inserted at the end of every paragraph. I've tried it like that: \define \par {Endstring\endgraf} \starttext \chapter {Chapter} \section {Section} \input knuth \input zapf \stoptext This works, but it results in a lot of additional strings. The string "Endstring" should appear on paragraph ends only (it's acceptable to appear after headings, too). How can I achieve the desired result? Problem with pdf output for FeedARead.com

Colleagues A friend of mine asked me to produce a small book of three of her short stories for FeedARead.com from a word document. On looking at the site I suggested I do a conversion to pdf since it would look much better and FeedARead recommend uploading pdf over word as well. However, when my friend uploaded to FeedARead she received back this comment: /Please note that you have uploaded TWO pages of your book per one 5 inch wide x 8 inch high page e.g. on your file there would be two book pages of print per page and not one per page as required./ I did notice that when viewed in Adobe Reader, V11.0.6, it displays two pages on the screen at a time but on checking the documents properties it shows the correct page size so I thought it was OK. I've had a look on the wiki but haven't found anything obviously wrong in what I've done above. Is their something I'm missing in \definepapersize or \setuppapersize? But in this case other programs I tried (namely CorelDraw and MS Word) do not have any problems with this unicode-symbol. Help and fix would be great, as this symbol is the only one left in my list of hacks and workarounds to typeset the quran with ConTeXt. (Hacks etc. needed, because unfortunately there are no good arabic font, either free or commercial, which can be used for the massive needs of typesetting quran (thats why nearly all used qurans are still written by hand)). But if I can make it clearer, I will definitely try, because it is an important question for typessting quran with ConTeXt. Thanks! Huseyin

Page layouts in chapter 3 of manual.

I am having a bit of trouble matching up the diagrams in chapter three with the corresponding \setuparranging statements. For example which \setuparranging statement matches up with figure 3.21 (8 pages single sided 1 sheet.)? Wrong pagenumber in index

Try 3: Workaround: I put a tilde "~" instead of "some text": \starttext \section{Hello}\index{Hello} ~ <- putting the tilde here \page \index{world}world \page \completeindex \stoptext Result 3: hello 1 <- ok, with the tilde as a workaround world 2 I don't like such tricks - is there a ConTeXt-way?

Averaged integrals

Hi, Is there a command to produce an averaged integral sign ($\int$ with a slash drawn across it)? On a related note: It seems to me that \ointclockwise and \ointctrclockwise produce results opposite to what their names would indicate. Thanks, Janne Junnila

URL macro with \bgroup ... \egroup

Dear list, I want to have better hyphenated and clickable URLs in my bibliography. I have defined the following macro: \define [1] \URL {\goto{\hyphenatedurl{#1}}[url(#1)]} And I want to use it in the bibliography like that: \setuppublicationlayout [electronic] { \inserturl{ URL:\ \URL\bgroup }{\egroup.}{}% } But the macro doesn't work with \bgroup ... \egroup, it works with braces only. Minimal non-working example: \define [1] \URL {\goto{\hyphenatedurl{#1}}[url(#1)]} \starttext \URL \bgroup http://test.invalid\egroup \stoptext It complains about too many }. Vertically stretched split table

Dear list, if I specify "option=height" with an xtable, a single-page table is stretched vertically to fill the whole textheight. However, I need this feature with a multipage table. In the following example, the table on the first page should be stretched, but isn't: \showframe \starttext \startxtable [option=height, split=yes] \startxrow \startxcell \input knuth \stopxcell \startxcell \input ward \stopxcell \stopxrow \startxrow \startxcell \input zapf \stopxcell \startxcell \input ward \stopxcell \stopxrow \startxrow \startxcell \input knuth \stopxcell \startxcell \input ward \stopxcell \stopxrow \stopxtable \stoptext The table parts on all the pages but the last page should be stretched vertically. If this isn't possible with xtable, is it possible in another way? I hope it is possible without splitting the table by hand, because it is a big project with several hundred table pages, and splitting by hand would make changes (additional rows) really hard. Baskervald ADF Virtual Math Fonts

Hello, Thank you for the answer. >if you have a proper opentype math Font… As you know, Baskervald doesn’t come with an open type math version. Moreover the mapping mechanism works well with open type text fonts and is powerful and very general. It’s my prefered way of solving my problem. So I reiterate my questions: Question 1: Where do I define my own vector mapping? Should I modify ConTeXt’s source code in the math-ttv.lua file? How do I define my own baskervald-math.lua and what should I write in it (for example for mapping Pagella’s upright mathematic glyphs to Baskervald’s upright glyphs)? Question 2: I am forced to put the goodies file baskervald-math.lfg in Book/Volume1/Chapter1. When I put it in Book and compiled chapter1.tex separately, ConTeXt failed to find it. What should I do to have the file baskervald-math.lfg in the Book directory and make ConTeXt find it when invoked from Book/Volume1/Chapter1. Thank you. Joas.

Rotating two lines in a table

There is a bug(?) with \starttext \bTABLE \bTR \bTD[orientation=90]{first line\crlf second line}\eTD \bTD{first line\crlf second line}\eTD \eTR \eTABLE \stoptext The second cell is partially written over the first cell. How can I say: Don't do that :-) ?
