Two bugs with descriptions in ConTeXt.

The first bug is that descriptions interfere with the counters, resulting in the peculiar behavior demonstrated in the resulting PDF. Unless I'm mistaken, I think it happens because the head of the description is evaluated twice, thus incrementing the counter twice---at least, that's the only explanation for how the number is incremented by 2 each time. Further, this issue seems to persist whether we're using macros or writing \incrementcounter directly. The solution is to either make sure that the head of descriptions is evaluated only once, or document that text placed as the head of descriptions is meant to be evaluated twice, if there's a good reason for doing so. Of course, this silly example of incrementing counters can be subdued by placing the \incrementcounter directly in the after option when customizing descriptions. But it demonstrates the issue. I've tried to make the examples given be as varied as possible, demonstrating the different ways in which descriptions interact with the counter. The second bug is that descriptions, or at least that's my intuitive expectation, shouldn't interfere with the bullets of items. I expect that the bullet stays where it is, and the description is placed next to it. But what happens is that the bullet is shifted to the right, making it overlap with the description's head, which isn't pretty. ConTeXt version 2024.1.24

Context lmtx for 32bit under LUBUNTU 18.04

Hi, A month or so ago Hans provided a new upload (thanks I managed to get and install it on my Windows 10 64b). At that time I was struggling for having my computers back in order (that appends sometimes). Now I'd like to have LMTX on an old but still used (when travelling) portable under lubuntu 18.04 32Bits. There is no more executable available on pragma and I am using Context from TeX Live, but it is the 2017 version. I can do with it, but it would be better to have Context lmtx latest. Is it possible to have it? But if this a too complicate problem, I'll stand with the TeX Live Context. Thanks for the system anyway. Regards, Alain Delmotte Montpellier, France

Section numbering does not work

Hi Section numbering does not work until I remove \startbackmatter \stopbackmatter. I had a longer text file and I stripped it down until I found this? removing whitespace

In the example below I pass the macro a string with a space, but the space should not appear in the url. I've tried using \ctxlua to invoke string substitution, but without success. While the first half about his personal history might not be that interesting, “how computer graphics came to be” surely is (a simulator for ship pilots played an important role). How to print the book title and section title where \reference is located?

I have an extensive multi-book project. Each book has a nickname, like TB for "Textbook", "WB 1" for the "Workbook, Vol. 1": TB -- 01_textbook.texWB 1 -- 03_workbook.texWB 2 -- 04_workbook.texWB 3 -- 05_workbook.tex WB 4 -- 06_workbook.tex TG -- 08_teachersguide.tex I have to prove to a government agency that the content meets several requirements, so I'm giving them a simple file that says something like "Requirement A is met in TB, "Cats", p. 11" basically letting the reader know its in the textbook, section called "Cats", on p. 11. Dear all, I have a little problem to use “columns” in the following example. If I use “\startcolumnset”, then I have the following problems: 1. The figures is aligned left even though I use \startplacefigure[]. 2. In the second column, the first item located at the end of the page. However, \vfill works, so I managed the items evenly spaced vertically. If I use “\startcolumns”, then I have the following problems: 1. \vfill doesn’t works, but \blank[] works. hyphenation question

In the 18th century documents I am transcribing often words are abbreviated as for example voorschreeve becoming voors: In the transcription it is usual to write this as voors[chreeve] indicating to the reader how the abbreviation was interpreted. The problem then arises with hyphenation, because voors[chreeve] in the example will not be hyphenated as if the []'s were absent. Which is what I would like to happen. Nested itemize lists: unexpected spacing

Consider the following: \starttext Text before. \startitemize[1,nowhite] \item item 1 \item item 2 \startitemize[5,nowhite] \item sub-item 1 \item sub-item 2 \stopitemize \item item 3 \stopitemize Text after. \stoptext Notwithstanding the "nowhite" options, there is a blank line before sub-item 1, which I do not want. Oddly (to me), if I change the first "nowhite" to "packed", the space before sub-item 1 goes away, but then I get undesired space before and after the out itemization. Q1: Can someone explain the Zen of this? That is, why does the blank line before sub-item 1 go away with "packed", but not "nowhite"? Poking around on the internet, I find that if I leave the "nowhite"s, but precede "Text before." with \unprotect \c_strc_itemgroups_spacing_mode=1 % 0 works too, but 2 doesn't \protect then I get the spacing I want. Q2: \c_strc_itemgroups_spacing_mode seems to be an undocumented "feature". Is there a "documented" way of making the unwanted blank line go away, without introducing unwanted blank lines before and after the outer itemize list? Thanks. Jim

textbackground spacing offset

Hi! I'm having problems getting the textbackground spacing offset to work. chronological TOC

I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction for a separate TOC which needs to be in chronological order at the back of the book (i.e. not in page number order, although I need the page numbers to show up in the TOC. There is the normal TOC at the front of the book, according to chapter titles. I have succeeded in defining a separate TOC to place at the back, but have not succeeded in the chronological order! Here is what I have done: \definelist[chron][criterium=all,alternative=c] At the back of the book: \placelist[chron][criterium=all] Then at an appropriate point after each \startchapter I have placed (as an example): \writetolist[chron]{}{{\bf 29 April 2017,} Speech, Panama City} This gives me my list, but in page number order. How do I get the date (e.g. 29 April 2017) to be the ordering factor in the list. I assume it will be something to do with criterium, but am clueless at the moment on how to indicate this. Julian

Own command definition breaks with interaction: Use of \do_my_command doesn't match its definition

Hi, I want to make a proper definition of a new command to be able to process it in Lua. I found something on StackOverflow [1] but that breaks in enumeration _and_ when interaction is enabled and I do not understand why? Can you give me some help here? I want to make commands like \foo{bla} and \foo[b]{bla} possible at the same time. I have a document that uses ~40 different TABLE configurations, each with their own special requirements, such as these below, and in total, perhaps 2000 tables appear in a file, using one of the configurations. \setupTABLE[r][1][align=raggedleft] \setupTABLE[c][1][width=.1\textwidth] \setupTABLE[c][2][width=.33\textwidth] \setupTABLE[c][3][width=.37\textwidth] \setupTABLE[c][4][width=.1\textwidth] \setupTABLE[c][5][width=.1\textwidth] \setupTABLE[c][1,2,3,4,5][align=raggedleft, frame=off] %\setupTABLE[r][2,3,4,5,6,8,9,11,12,14][bottomframe=off] \setupTABLE[r][1][bottomframe=on] \bTABLE[split=yes] \bTR\bTD {\it Lesson} \eTD\bTD {\it Time} \\eTD\bTD {\it Date} \eTD\bTD {\it Page} \eTD\eTR \eTABLE What I've been finding is that previous settings on TABLES appearing earlier in the document is impacting later tables. For instance, if one has a frame to the right of column 1, then the next table seems to acquire this setting as well, even if it isn't expected to have any frames at all. Note that each unique table is defined inside a macro. How can I make these table settings only apply to the a specific table? --Joel

Today I ran across three references to archive.contextgarden.net, one in a tugboat article and two others in context garden wiki pages. I was not able to reach that site. Is it (long since?) dead or is it just on vacation temporarily? Thanks. Jim
